    THE WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD HERE by far. Waited 10 minutes after being seated and finally asked hostess if we could get a server which took another 5 mins before the waitress arrived so we placed our order too. I asked about the sauce that came with it and was told "it's delicious, that's all you need to know".  Well, guess again as I have dietary issues and a diabetic husband  that require my knowing how much sugar is in sauces. The pork shank "wings" were deep fried instead of grilled and were mediocre at best but the sauce was gross. I would have asked for some BBQ sauce but the incompetent server never returned and we sat for 10 minutes looking at dirty dishes hoping for a tea refill that we asked the hostess to find our server but we gave up. I was going to have dessert but I figured I'd die of old age before it would get there. After she left the check we waited for her to come take the money before I gave up and tried to pay the bartender who couldn't find her either so I had him give me change so that I could just leave it on the table--and I did.

    We went early afternoon on Sunday and was dreading it as the wait time is usually fairly long. I was pleasantly surprised that we only waited about 15 minutes.  The waiter was prompt and brought our drinks very quickly. I had the Coyote Chicken with the loaded baked potato and it was very good.  The chicken breast was smothered in mushrooms, onions, red and green peppers and had a little kick to it. The potato was huge and could easily feed a family of 4....lol

    Endless refills on soda and tea and the glasses are large as well so you get quite a bit to drink.  I normally don't go because of the wait times but when I do, 54th Street is consistent, service is very good and it always makes for a fun time.

    its a chain. uniformity is the key. unless its located in the ghetto then by all means hide your keys. foods generic chain fare. theres beer n such. shenanigans decorum. nice casual place fora first date or post anything drink and appetizer.

    Quality of food has gone way down. Everyone can have a bad day at a restaurant, but after three visits, as of late, the quality is nothing like it use to be.

    A friend and I met here for lunch this past week, on a very gorgeous day.  We sat on the patio with our three kiddos -- two of which were eating.  Her daughter ordered the mac and cheese kids meal and it was a relatively large order of mac and cheese that she "really really loved."  My son had the grilled cheese and french fries with the lemonade -- his fries were good as far as fries go.  My friend ordered a  salad and we joked that they must have diced up an entire head of lettuce -- she didn't even come close to eating it all, but said it was great.  My meal was pretty good -- a grilled chicken sandwich with monterey jack cheese, along with a cup of a new beef stew they had recently added to the menu.  Nothing I ordered was hot, it was all mildly warm, but at least it was delicious.  I would like to go back sometime with my husband, sans kiddos to check it out -- restaurant was clean, patio seemed like it could be very fun, bar area looked nice.

    This is definitely my favorite restaurant in Edwardsville. I have had a variety of meals there.
    All of the appetizers are delicious. My favorite is Four Play. My favorite dip is the Gringo dip, its a slightly spicy queso dip.
    Burgers are usually pretty good, Steaks do not not have as much flavor as i'd hope for, but the ribs are always one of my favorite meals with loaded baked potato.
    Beginning salads are very yummy sometimes a little too much portion before a big meal.
    I always get a take home plate and sometimes cup if i get the strawberry lemonade which is also very good.

    It's alright. :) we generally only go when we get the coupon in the Money Mailer. The food is pretty good and the baja plate is usually the only thing I get. Drinks are stuff do full of ice it's nothing but watered down before you can get a sip.

    I knew from previous experiences I wasn't going to be wowed by this place, but I wasn't expecting poor service. The waitress wasn't really nice. She was your typical teenager who seemed weirded out when people asked her questions outside of what she knows. I ordered the burger with the egg and bacon on it. The burger was too salty, and the egg was overdone. There's no reason why the egg should be fully cooked. Most people want the yolk to ooze out; it gives it a great flavor and texture. Overcooked egg adds nothing to the burger, people! The apple al la mode was good, though I could've done without the chunks of nutmeg. Maybe they could mix it a little better next time? Yeah, not going to this place again, much less any 54th SB&G establishment.

    I absolutely love this place. I tell everyone I know about it. It's apple-bees on steroids. The only down side that I've found is that every time I've ate there I have an average wait of about 15 to 20 minutes. I tend to try something different every time I go and so far no complaints. O and the strawberry long island iced tea what can I say it's to die for.

    Stopped by 54th for lunch when visiting family recently. Both the food and service were good, and everyone in our party was quite pleased.  I can see why it's one of their favorite lunch places.  Hope to visit again on our next trip.

    I'm giving them 4 stars for two reasons:
    The food is good and it is obviously very popular - try to get a seat! This place reminds me of the Applebee's phenomenon when they were new to our area over 25 years ago. You would wait for an hour to get a seat there, too.
    Personally, I'm not into waiting for my meal but you can't fault a restaurant for being too popular (right, Peel?)!

    First off - this place is not 5 stars in the sense that a fancy steakhouse is 5 stars.  It's 5 stars in its class (Midwestern bar and grill chain restaurant).  It's in the same class as  Chili's, TGI Friday's, Applebees, etc. - but much, much better.

    The one thing that stands out about 54th Street is that a lot of the food is fresher than what you'd get at similar national chains.  They bring you mini-loaves of warm, slightly-sweet bread and butter (depending on what you order, anyway).  The dishes don't have that same "frozen food" taste you notice with some of the larger chains.  There's just something slightly better about it that's hard to put your finger on.

    The best thing here is probably the Gringo Dip, and if they don't bring you sour cream, make sure they do.  If you like sour cream at all, you'll love the combination of gringo dip + salty chips + sour cream.  Beyond that, the aforementioned bread stands out, along with their baked potatoes and surprisingly good (while still being super affordable) steaks.

    The biggest downside to dining here is the wait.  Most of the time, you can expect 5-10 minutes - and it can get as high as an hour if you come at peak times.  Still, if you find yourself stranded in the middle of metro-east suburbia and in need of a decent meal, 54th Street is a pretty solid bet.

    I'm not sure if it's just that all these other reviewers went a long time ago, but I've lived in Edwardsville since before 54th Street came to town and I didn't go until about a year after it opened. Why? Because I would drive by at 3:00pm in the middle of the week and there would be people waiting outside. Any time someone mentioned going, they all said the same thing, "it's good food but expect to wait at least a half hour to an hour." That may be fine by some people, but generally, I don't like waiting outside for an hour just to be seated at a "Bar and Grill."

    That being said, I live here and I've personally gone to this establishment at least twenty times. Yes, at least. We even had my boyfriend's birthday party there. (The only negative w/the party there is someone had to show up to reserve all the seating and when they mentioned the party to the server, she was not informed by the manager I had spoken with earlier that day)

    The rundown: good food at good prices,  always packed but even so I've never waited longer than 15-20 minutes to be seated, service has ALWAYS been good- I have no clue what you other people are talking about, plenty of alcoholic beverages should you choose to drink. Try the gringo dip and waffle fries-that's what they're known for and they are awesome.

    Two ways to save: all appetizers except for the sample platter are $4.50 each between 3-6 and after 9pm during the week. Some of them are regularly $9/each so it's a nice way to try a few w/o hurting your wallet-but be warned, they are generous portions. Second, is the money mailer that's sent out in the mail once a month that includes coups to several establishments in the area. 54th Street always has a 20% off coup in the money mailer and pretty much everyone I know uses it when they go. Even if you're with parties at your table, the coup covers everyone's meal-regardless of how many checks it's being split into.

    Personal favorites: the 9oz steak and potato are great, as is the chicken strip appetizer with fries. I also enjoy the potato soup here (it's some of the best I've ever had) as well as great salads. Again, try the gringo dip-but with waffle fries instead of chips-you won't be disappointed!

    *note: given how they always seem to be packed, they have reached out to be granted to expand their restaurant where it currently sits. Hopefully that will be approved and wait times will decrease.

    Cold food and terrible service! I experienced this about a month ago. I went back the other day and experience the same thing. First of all, our waitress forgot our appetizer. Second, when I received my order it was wrong ( I don't like lettuce and tomato on my burger...I know I'm weird). I scraped off the stuff I didn't want and ate it anyway. It was cold despite the name of "Devil's Den Burger". Third, it took forever for our waitress to actually wait on us. Our drinks were constantly empty! I will not be going back to this location.

    Better than the Friday's and Applebee's of the casual restaurant world.  Check out the great deals late night with 1/2 price apps.  

    My wife enjoys the gyro platter and I am a buffalo chicken wrap guy.  Nothing either of us crave, but we haven't been disappointed.

    Like the three Bs: BEEF (Kansas City roots mean they know good meat), BACON (it's on the potato skins, and monstrous loaded baked potato), and BEER (Budweiser products dominate, usually a Samuel Adams option, too). On a first visit, you won't go wrong with one of the menu selections under "The Street's Steakhouse," with loaded baked potato and salad.  It's not Andria's or Erato, but neither are the prices. There are enough choices that most parties should find something to satisfy a variety of tastes.

    54th Street is popular with families and students, meaning that often you will wait for a table, and when you get one, the noise level may be too loud for normal conversation. The décor is casual kitsch, which gives you plenty of things to praise or criticize according to your mood. Gluten-free and "healthy dining" menus available. Non-alcoholic drink options include the 25-oz Cherry Limeade or Strawberry Lemonade.

    A Friday night 6:30, meeting a friend from Wisconsin and her boyfriend who lives in Edwardsville for dinner. We chose 54th street on account of hoping the diverse menu could please everyone. And everyone got the sirloin. Seemed like a decent price for a sirloin and a side. Josh got a slightly larger steak than the rest of us and added a salad, but he was looking to get another meal out of this one. I don't blame him living on his own. I'm taking advantage of Mom and Pop while I got them. Sirloin was cooked to medium perfectly and seasoned well, steamed veggies (mainly broccoli) had some pretty good flavor. Sweet tea vodka, tea, and lemonade drink was delicious as were the margarita and flavored margarita shared with Jacki. Jacki very much enjoyed her steak cooked to medium well and veggies. They tried to skip out on bringing us a loaf of bread, that only came with Josh's meal. Some thing that was not clear on the menu. We got some and my meal was complete.

    Being Friday night there was a wait. We probably waited about a 20 minutes from when DK put us on the list, so not too bad I suppose. I would definitely go back and try some thing else on the menu. I feel like things here could be very hit or miss. The salads looked large...

    I've been meaning to try this place out for awhile, the problem is everytime I've gone in, it is a 30-45 min wait. I finally bit the bullet and waited it out for the place everyone keeps saying is so good.

    I would rather go to a place that does a few things great, then a place that does a lot of things just OK. 54th St. is the later. Their menu has so many choices that it leaves your head spinning. The menu items have creative names, but when you read what is in them it's nothing all that special.

    I ended up getting the chicken fried chicken. The menu said the chicken fillet was 10 oz, and I would say it was about that. The inside was very juicy, the outside was very crispy, and it was topped in a white gravy. To be honest I was surprised how much I liked it. It came with a side of mashed potatoes that were covered in the same white gravy. After the chicken I really didn't want anymore white gravy and I wished the potatoes had been served with a brown gravy just to add another flavor to the meal. I also got a side of (flavorless) cole slaw, and a decent biscuit.

    The service was horrible. Granted the place was packed as usual, but my waiter seemed to be taking his sweet time in everything he did. Served our drinks without straws, brought out a loaf of bread without a knife to cut it with and he hadn't given us silverware yet, was slow to refill drinks, requests for things like like a side of honey mustard went unanswered. Numerous attempt to flag him down went ignored. When we finally got his attention long enough to ask for the check, we told him that we qualified for a local discount. He brought back the check without the discount applied, thus having to remind him and costing us more time while waiting for him to fix his error. Maybe it's just me but when I go out to eat I don't want to wait for my waiter.

    After having my 54th Street experience, I don't really see what makes it so popular. Yeah my waiter was below poor, but the food didn't inspire me enough to come back to their lil bit of everything menu.

    This review caused more stress in my house!!!  I am a self-admitted food snob and can't find a single meal at 54th Street that  I like  - everything is creamy, covered in cheese, fried or coated in sauce.  But, that's me.

    Now, my kids and husband on the other hand love this place.  Potato soup is a huge hit with my daughter.  The standard kid fair menu works for them too.  My husband loves that he can order a baked potato (really, why can't he stay home if he is just going to order a baked potato?), but most of all they LOVE the unreal "I spy" games they have here - there is so much stuff on the ceilings they spend the whole time searching.  

    People love this place!  Everytime we go there are people waiting to sit and we often sit in the bar.  The TVs are great for games and their liquor selection is decent.

    One of my favorite places to go with my family whenever I visit home. The food is really really good. Great sandwiches and wraps, they even have good steak. And also, the gringo dip! (It's what their known for). If you're a soup eater, try the tortilla soup. It's delish.

    It's a loud and busy restaurant. It's always packed and there is usually a wait around dinner time all through the week. It has fun decor. The drinks are generous, cheap, and delicious. The service is also very friendly, but keep in mind, it's a busy place so it's easy for your server to either be busy or get busy very fast. They are also opened late, especially Friday and Saturday.

    All the items on the menu are great, no kidding. I love the buffalo chicken salad, or the pork sandwich is great too. All the dish's come with free bread, and also the cheese dip is great too. The prices could be a little cheaper but not that big of a deal. the wait can be excessive on sat or friday so plan ahead. My favorite place to eat in edwardsville

    I personally did not like this establishment.    It was loud and busy.  Which is alright by me, but our waiter wasn't that attentive.  

    My mom and sister thought he was fine, but seriously we got there, ordered drinks and waited for almost 20 minutes to order our food.  That's not cool in my book of rules.

    The first margarita that my mom order was all tequila.  Which she made us all try....and she laughed at our faces when we did.  It was gross.  It took over 10 minutes to get a new one too.

    They aren't Vegetarian friendly whatsoever.  When will people realize meat doesn't have to go into EVERY dish!?  But I can say that the steamed veggies and Cesar salad were good.  That's really all I could eat without asking them to remove meat from the dish.  Wasn't in the mood that night.

    But all in all the experience wasn't' terrible.  It just wasn't good.  It will be a while before I go back.
