I don't understand how anyone can review this restaurant, since they never seem to be open. Went on a Tuesday in January and they were closed. Showed up on a Friday at 630, and they said they were closing for the night. I'm so confused. What kind of restaurant keeps random hours like that? Perhaps they're out of business, but in denial?
Review Source:Service was very nice and attentive. Â I'm a big fan of Ethiopian food. Â Noticed the dishes on menu were slightly different than the other 4 Ethiopian restaurants on the far north side that I've tried but that made me a good kind of curious. Â For example, gomen is not made w/spinach as most places...rather collard greens. Â Not bad, just different. Â Ok. Â I got the veggie sampler which was great because you get to try 6 or 7 different dishes that the cook decides to give you. Â I loved one of the potato (spicy) sides--delicious! Â I have not had this before anywhere else (don't know what it's called because you don't chose the samples). Â Have to say the gomen, beets/potatoes and lentils (especially yellow) were not nearly as tasty (on the bland side) as others I've had. Â Food was decent overall. Â Not as good as I've had though, sorry to say. Â If I'd not had Ethiopian before I'd probably give 4 stars having nothing to compare to. Â But gomen craving not fixed :( Â On the bright side, seems like they use less oil so probably a bit healthier.....
Review Source:Very enjoyable experience! Â Having had Ethiopian only once before, we were familiar with the style of eating and the cuisine, but no where near experts! Â So we asked our server for guidance and she did an excellent job of making recommendations for both selection and quantity. Â
As we're not afraid of spicy foods, when she inquired about if we liked spicy and we replied yes, after digging into the meal it was very clear why the "cautionary question" at the start. Â Not sure what the spices are, but they are very hot but really good. Â Despite our mouths being "on fire" by the end of the meal, it was really delicious.
A couple of years ago we started our own "tradition" of going out to dinner on Christmas to enjoy a new/interesting cuisine from around the world. Â This Christmas was Abyssinia and we were really pleased with the food and the service.
