I've been here a few times (always invited by someone else) and always thought it was pretty good. Â However I went last night and was totally disappointed and pissed. Â This place is seasonal...you can only go in the spring or fall.
PROS: Â the chicken and lamb kabob were KILLER...I mean delish! (Then again I can get this at almost any Afghan restaurant)
CONS: Gee, where should start?! Â
-Took about 10 minutes just to get water glasses (with no water in them).
-Another 10 minutes to get pitches of water (but they didn't FILL our glasses, just left the pitchers and walked away)
-Took ANOTHER 10 minutes to get our salads
-25 minutes to get our meals
-The mantu was just okay...it almost had no yogurt which should be considered a crime.
-I saw another family after FIFTEEN minutes of sitting down say, "Ummm, can we get some water??????"
-And the worst part of all, it was 26 degrees outside and felt like it was 30 degrees inside!! Â By the time we were done, my hands were ice cold. Â It's a small restaurant so I don't care where you sit, you're basically going to freeze your ass, it's ridiculous. Â I could feel some weak heat coming from the vents. Â They need to stop obsessing over saving money and make their customers feel comfortable!!! Â This really pisses me off because I brought my infant daughter with me and had I not read Yelp prior to going I wouldn't have known how cold this place is, so luckily I knew and I bundled her up. Â Thank you my fellow Yelpers!!! Â If I wasn't with several members of my family, I would've just left this place immediately.
-While sitting there freezing my ass off, I suddenly remembered how we held the luncheon for my aunt's funeral at this place many years ago. Â It was in the middle of a scorching summer day and of course, I now remembered how I had sweat running down my face! Â It seems they make their customers unhappy year round, even if they've had a death in the family!
-They are right next door to Jaxx and the crowd is obviously a bit....strange and creepy.
The person's comment below about how staff treats Afghans differently(I'm Afghan) --couldn't be farther from the truth. Â I watched the staff the entire time and they treated everyone the same (they all got crappy service!). Â Perhaps what they saw was a relative or friend of one of the staff members that got treated better (we have a very large close-knit community in Northern VA). Â Â So, crappy service they are....racist they are not.
They really really need to hire more waiters and a sou-chef or SOMETHING...this place is beyond slow!!! Â There are sooooo many other Afghan restaurants, why would anyone in their right mind come here?! Â
Perhaps it was an off night and several people called off...at the end of the day I don't really care...I will NEVER be returning and will make sure to tell my relatives never to hold their events at this place....after all, they don't even turn on the AC for a family that recently lost a loved one!!! Â That says alot!
