Not bad. A lot of food for the money, and it tastes good. I didn't find our perticular doshes to be over processed. The chicken breast was thick and juicy.  The gyro had the typical meat but good olives and feta cheese made up for it.

This place is just too processed all the way around.  There is no originality at all.  It almost feels as if things are made from a box - and not made well, at that.  We wanted to like it, but it really just made us weary of trying future diners.

Just came here tonight for the first time per a friend's recommendation. I have to say after my friend ranting and raving about how amazing this place was, I was extremely disappointed.

First of all, our server, older woman with blond hair and glasses, was a bit over the top. Maybe for old-timers her shtick works, but I was a little overwhelmed with how rude she was to my date and how unaccommodating she was to my vegetarian needs. I realize this is a diner and has American style fare, but I've been to plenty of places (Omega in Des Plaines/Niles being one of them) where they were happy to take the turkey or chicken out of a menu item or that offered more vegetarian items.
This woman had a comment or three to make about me "eating so many vegetables that you should just turn into a carrot already" every time she came near us. So maybe I don't have a sense of humor? I do. The first few times, I laughed with her. I joked around with her and played along with her little game. When she wouldn't stop that was when I started to get a bit frustrated. I just wanted to enjoy my food and have a nice conversation with my date, but it's hard when she kept coming around to talk about my date being "messy, just like ALL men. Oh men...I'll never understand them!" AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON...

The food was a better story. I had the asiago chicken wrap sans chicken (Asiago cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado). Nothing to rave about but this was decent diner food. My boyfriend had the half slab ribs and even though he didn't finish them all because we were so annoyed we couldn't even finish eating because our server was being obnoxious, he said they were good.

I won't be going back here. I know my friend really loves the place, and I'm sure he has had better experiences with this place than I did, but I'm so turned off with the idea of coming back here, I just won't be doing it.

Guided by the suggestions of other yelpers, I decided to have dinner at Al and Andy's

As mentioned in other reviews, this diner is not going to win any interior design awards as it feels outdated and frankly quite shady. The service is fairly good; the waiter had a nice personality but a little too much character.

At a first glance, the menu looked overwhelming. The variety was superb and the prices quite cheap but the overabundance of options came to me as a sign that the food might be subpar. The food is served in large portions that seemed promising but were quite lacking in flavor and quality:

Chicken soup: the soup had clumps all over the place but the overall flavor was alright.
Noodles with chicken swiss style: absolutely terrible. Noodles were soggy and the sauce was watery and largely unseasoned.
    Hamburgers: unsalted, burned bacon.
    Fries: fine but unexceptional.
    Root beer float: ok.

Overall a bad experience. I can imagine the restaurant being featured in Gordon Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares".

I have mixed feelings about this establishment. I stopped by on vacation since it was close to the hotel. I can see why locals may love it, but if you're visiting town, this may be a  pass.

The good: VERY cheap, large portions, plenty of variety (the menu is enormous), the service is full of personality.

The bad: my one major complaint is a big one, unfortunately. The food was... a touch bland. The hamburger wasn't terrible, but I didn't feel motivated to finish it. My family and friends weren't impressed with their food, either. The waitress had a good sense of humor, but to be honest, I did find her a little annoying after awhile.

In the end: great price, underwhelming food.

Classic diner. No ornate settings, classic wait staff, and a huuuuge menu. The great thing about this place is the price and quantity of food. You get a 7 course meal for under 10 dollars. The reason this place did not recieve the 5 star status is that it is clear that many of the foods are not prepared fresh at the time of order. With such a huge menu this place has many of the food items pre made in the cooler wich takes away from the quality of the dish.

Great food and not expensive. Huge menu. Lots of specials. Nice people working there. Over all awesome place.

This place is not gonna win any interior design awards. Shabby and outdated.
But I didn't show up to eat the furniture. I wanted good cheap diner breakfast food. And these folks pulled it off in spades. Veggie/cheese/ham omelette for me with hashbrowns and toast, and two porkchops, eggs, hashbrowns and toast for my friend -- just a hair over $20. Unreal. Nice waitresses as well.
From out of town - would never have found this without yelp!

This place is a dive with awesome food!  Definitely a local hangout that doesn't aim to impress with anything more than the food.  Went in for a gyro but the waitress quickly steered me away from that, saying it wasn't carved off the spit like most people expect.  Decided on the Greek style chicken wrap with feta which was wonderful, my husband had a skirt steak wrap...he said he wished it had more flavor.  The soups were to die for, a form of chicken noodle as well as broccoli cheddar.  More than enough food with reasonable prices.  Only negative comment comes from my trip to the ladies room, upon looking at the ceiling the heating/cooling vent was covered with black mold.

Everything you would expect from a joint of this caliber. Long time regulars messing with the community Sunday newspapers, discussing the Bears woes and couples fighting over things that do not matter in the long run. Love it.

I enjoyed the ham and eggs while my dining partner went with eggs Florentine. Both were fabulous with just enough ninety weight oil to flush the hangover right out of you.

Huge portions, ample service and a slice of Americana that just cannot be beat.

Did I mention that there was a back door for covert entry/getaway as well?

I had to plan a last minute trip to the Rosemont Theater and instead of grabbing dinner closer to home we decided to find a place closer to our destination.

Yelp came in handy as I would never have found Al & Andy's.  A&A's is the stereotypical local-serves-just-about-everything restaurant that everyone goes to.

You know the kind, every town has one or two. People go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food is consistently good, and they always serve chicken noodle soup.

I hadn't been to one of these places in a few months, and it was a welcome change of pace.

The food was good. I went with the Al & Andy Burger (I think that was the name). The burger was the usual except  it came with mayo and olives. Would I try it again? Probably not, but I tried something new and it just wasn't my style. The burger itself was very good. The other two people in my group ordered burgers and they enjoyed theirs.  I should have gone with a regular burger, but I still left with a full stomach.

Overall the experience was good, the server did seem like she had other places to be. Oh well.

I don't see myself driving all the way out there when I have similar places closer to home. But if I were in the area again, I would make sure I stop in again.

Al and Andy's is THE best restaurant of all time!  I've been dining here my whole life (22 years) and the chopped steak tastes as good today as it did the first time I tried it as a kid.  If you dine here regularly it's likely you'll be served by Lana (she always wears her hair in a french braid); she's hilarious!  I always smile when she teases my boyfriend and his face turns tomato red.

I have been going to Al & Andy's for going on 15 plus years or maybe more. I lost track. Never ever been disappointed by the food. Breakfast, lunch or dinner the food is always consistent and so delicious. From eggs and bacon at breakfast to some of the best Greek style pork chops around the menu is vast and the food never better. The service, many of the waitresses have been there for years and all which I know by name, is outstanding. They know the menu and know what they are doing. My local little restaurant never has been better.

I have to agree with other Yelpers who pointed me to this place.  This is what I'm looking for from Yelp!  This is a breath of fresh air just outside the chain of O'hare hotels.  A great little family run diner with small town America feel.  It obviously has a strong local following as all the 'regulars' turned to see who was walking in as we entered.  The menu is quite diverse and both meals we chose were very filling, flavorful....and inexpensive as well!!

I had the Armenian chicken which was 1/2 a chicken that was wonderfully flavored, a salad, and potato (with about 6 options for how I wanted potatoes)....for less than $10.  My wife had a stuff chicken with spinach and feta.....it was delicious.

    Service:
Our waitress was very friendly and tentative and the busser constantly filled up my water.

    Food:
Chicken noodle soup - it was made with a long rice pasta looking type of noodle and I really liked it, tasty and flavorful.

Bacon grill cheese with fries - the grill cheese wasn't oily, had a nice crisp crunch to it and the bacon absolutely made the sandwich! The fries were hot and crispy. Yum great meal!

    Enjoyed my food and service.

    I'll be back!

Very good- just about as good as diner fare can get. I had the waffle, which was fantastic, and the fantastic Mexican Skillet, and my girlfriend, a discerning Eggs Benedictine, got the Eggs Benedict and was very happy.

An AMAZING Yelp find.  I went here before a flight out of ORD, and will be coming back here before and after every flight now.  The restaurant was typical dinner, nothing really special but it was clean.  The service was friendly and prompt; no one at the table was ever able to drain a glass before it was refilled or replaced.
The food though, oh my God the food.  I had the Gyro and Feta Omelet and every bite was like a foodgasm, words sufficient to describe it literally do not exist in any language.  My colleague had a waffle of some variety that she happily proclaimed tasted like candy.
To top it all off, this culinary delight, which will go down as my best breakfast ever (sorry Mom) ran us under $10 a person.  This is an amazing restaurant, and the fact I don't even have to go out of my way to eat there makes it even better.

Yelpers... thank you!    Al & Andy's Restaurant was a perfect fit for this Yelper who had his flight cancelled at O'Hare and had to overnight it on Mannheim Road.  Yes, the restaurant is a time-warp.  There is a small old-school color TV (12") on the order bar that patrons were watching:  reruns of Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke.  The server was matronly, recommended the roasted Greek Chicken with rice and a bowl of homeade noodle soup.  WOW!  Steaming hot from the oven - what a great meal.  A slice of Boston Cream Pie to take back to the hotel room was a real topper.
The menu is extensive.  Daily specials, burgers, sandwiches, gyros, even liver & onions for the bold.  The ambience is late 60s - early 70s.  The staff knew I was out of my neighborhood but welcomed me to a booth.  All for under $15.
I would say to all who have time for a square meal:  Al & Andy's Restaurant.  And listen for the cha-ching of the old-style cash register.  No LED read-outs allowed!!!

I've been going here for years. I always get the same thing: two eggs sunnyside up, sausage or bacon, depending on my mood with buttered toast. If i'm here on a sunday, i'd always get the cream of chicken. The food is always great. Everytime I go someone always orders the bellybuster burger and they love it everytime it's huge! The only thing about this place I don't like is that it is in dire need of a facelift!

    Small.  Intimate.  Charming.

This is the kind of place that us internet-savvy smarmy, hip, and clever nerds really love to discover and share with one another, but you just know that the regulars and staff there really probably couldn't care less about what we think.  They know what they are, what they're capable of doing, and know they've got a good formula going.

I bee-lined for Al's and Andy's after I picked up a rental car from O'Hare on the well-Yelpings of my fellow nerds, and upon getting there, I knew I liked it.  Totally old-fashioned, no-nonsense, but completely efficient, adequate, and cozy on a Sunday morning.  Everyone there was obviously a local regular, and I found my tourist butt feeling slightly alien there, but everyone was still nothing but polite and courteous to me.

I had a wonderful skillet consisting of ham, sausage, hash browns, onions, provolone and eggs, as well as two of the fluffiest and softest pancakes ever.  High-quality short-order diner food at its best.

The food was delicious, and I enjoyed my breakfast heartily as I was serenaded by the chatter of the locals, as they dropped F-bombs in every sentence, admonishing the youth of America, while my cup of coffee refused to go any emptier than half way down.  A genuine charming gem from my travels, a place I'd love to go to again someday.

Here's a great case of Yelp coming through.  We were looking for a restaurant near O'hare, and came across this place.  There is about a one in a zillion chance we'd ever have seen it / tried it / found it any other way, but there is was.  Few reviews, but high marks sounded like a decent bet.

It was better than I expected.  In a silly little way, you can tell a bunch about a restaurant of this ilk from the bread and salads.  Both were excellent - not fancy, but very fresh and delicious.

I had the Greek Skirt Steak because of the reviews and loved it.  They didn't have a gluten-free menu, but our server was great about helping us find options.  In fact, she was great in general - in a charming, if a little over the top, way.

My wife settled on a chicken sandwich with a bunch of fixings - and remarked at how good it was.  In a world full of mediocre and worse chicken sandwiches, it stood out.

Grandma wished the lake trout (which was huge) was cooked with butter, but declared it was "a good piece of fish".

Great value, huge menu, friendly folks, flavorful and enjoyable food - check it out.

This place was delicious! I went here based on the reviews of other yelpers. Just like Angela P. said, the menu is huge! The coffee was great and the service was quick.
    Recommendation: Cajun Chicken Sandwich

Great breakfast! Ordered moist scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns, and dark toast - and that's exactly what I got! Good hash browns (not great - for great go to Walker Brothers or Shaws!). Very reasonable prices, good service. Who could ask for anything more?!

    Another Schiller Park staple.
the menu is HUGE you can pretty much find anything you'd want on it. Pasta, chicken, steak, sandwiches, burgers EVERYTHING.
I have to say my fave is the fried chicken omg soo good. Juicy and perfectly fried.

Service is great. The Waitresses really bust their asses let me tell ya. (Lana is like the best waitress in the world. She's always a ton of fun)

Lots of the dinners come with soup or salad and then dessert after for usually under 10 dollars so if you want good food for not lots of money this is the place to go.
Desserts are usually fabulous. The dessert case is always full of tempting treats.

Mostly a local joint you will find many locals here, sometimes run into people you know (well if u are from the area anyway).
Parking can be a pain sometimes.
and getting back out to irving park road if you go during rush hour is the worst but I have to say the food is worth it.

Al & Andy's is your typical neighborhood restaurant that offers home-cooked meals and great service. The owner, Pete, and his son, Elias, are friendly with customers and take great pride in their restaurant.

Perhaps the best thing to eat are the homemade soups. There are two new soups for each day of the week. Each soup is fantastic.

The menu offers a wide range of foods to suit any craving and appetite (for breakfast, lunch or dinner). The portions are generous and the prices are fair. You pay for great food and a local, friendly atmosphere.

P.S. Lana is the best waitress there. She's funny and provides great entertainment during dinner!

How are there no reviews for Al and Andy's?? Great food...especially breakfast.  Just a diner with great food at great prices.  What else can I say? Oh, the soup is pretty good, and the Greek Chicken.  Yum.
