Let me start off by saying that I've never been treated so poorly in a retail establishment as I was in Al Ducci. This was our first time and when we walked in, were not greeted and were not even acknowledged after standing at the counter for over 10 minutes. All the while, two workers were standing dormant in the back.
A proper way to treat customers in wait is to say, "we'll be right with you." Instead, a nasty woman who I presumed to be the owner, scolded us for questioning where the help was, and nastily said she'd be right with us.
For a small establishment, I was appalled. I would expect that they would welcome new business with open arms - especially when their restaurant venture next door failed - and be courteous to all customers. Instead, we were treated as if they didn't need our business, so we left and we will NEVER go back.
Lived in Italy for 20 years so know good pizza, now live in New York so know good pizza. Â This pizza? Not so good. Â Not awful but not worthy of more than 3 stars. Â The reason for the one star is due to how incredibly slow they are. Â It took them 45 minutes to make two small pizzas and it was not crowded at all. Â We were given the option to wait / eat in their trattoria next door but the smell of mold / mildew in the place was over powering. Â When the pizzas were finally ready (one 5 minutes before the other) and I expressed my disappointment over the delay no apology was given, only a "thanks for coming". Â Won't be back, that's for sure.
Review Source:I went here the other day and had their 3 meat pizza - with homemade mozz!!!! It was diving!!!! Now I have seen only few places add quite this much fresh mozzarella to their pizza - most do just small dobs on it here and there, but this was fresh mozz covering the span of the entire pizza - the way that it should be. It was perfectly thin and crispy and you could taste the freshness of the tomato sauce. They have a little garden in the back so I imagine the basil came from there cause it tasted fresh from the garden, if not, they are getting it from somewhere with some kickin basil. The sausage was my least favorite of the meats on there cause it overpowered the other ingredients with its saltiness just a little, but thats not to say it was bad - just not my favorite. Overall, it was a culinary masterpiece.
It might seem a bit on the pricey side, but for the quality of product we were getting, I didn't mind, and the taste certainly stood up to it. Just felt it was worth pointing out because some people just expect pizza should never be more than $12 and this was not that kind of pizza - but you have to understand the ingredients you are getting on your pizza too. These were not cheap ingredients, these were hard worked and well executed ingredients and it shines through with every bite.
We drove from the Albany area to here today just to get a pizza and sandwich, in the cruddy weather might I add, and then drove directly home....AND IT WAS SOOOO WORTH IT!!!! They do everything there, execute it perfectly, and the people who work there are great. The owner was even nice enough to let us sit in the trattoria so that we could eat and stay inside out of the rain and he brought the pizza out fresh and hot for us while the girl who made my sandwich gave me mine. She even told us dont worry about paying yet so we could enjoy the food fresh since it just came out. Pizza had awesome crust with little bit of black, piled on with fresh mozzarella. The sandwich (italian veggie combo and added mortadella) was on their crusty baguette, eggplant was thick and grilled perfect, roasted red peppers, and fresh basil with some mortadella and holy moly it was sooo good.
Love coming here and would recommend it to anyone visiting the Manchester area. Still doing 5 stars!
I know how spoiled I am in regards to Italian specialty stores when I venture off the NY Metro line!
But to be fair, this spot is a decent alternative. Just too pricey (but this is the woods & it's VT).
So, if you are in desperate need of authentic imported (or not) Italian specialty items like home made mozzarella, squid ink pasta, San Marzano tomatoes, Pecarino Romano, sporesatta, or lady fingers for your special tiramisu then this is it!
Good selection of cold cuts, cheeses, pastas, olives, bread etc.
The service is just OK.
They also serve pizza & hot entres which is NOT part of this review as I haven't eaten here.
What a find in Vermont! Â A taste of the tristate areas fabulous Italian deli and butchers tucked away in the green mountains!
Excellent sausage, pizza, fresh mozzarella and everything else Italian. Â The only thing we have tried from there that we didn't like was the lasagna...the pasta was way overdone.
I have only had the pizza here, but if the pizza is any indication as to what their other specialties are, I'm sold! People might say that good pizza can't be found in VT, but I would have to strongly disagree with them and take them to Al Ducci's. They use only the freshest ingredients and everything from the cheese, to the basil to the crust is delicious. HIGHLY recommended.
Review Source:Located in a small neighborhood like setting in an old house. Once you step inside you will be plenty of fresh italian specialities . Yes some items can be pricey.
They make the BEST pizza using there own fresh mozzarella cheese and real toppings. They pizza was sweet, fresh and delicious. Â A MUST visit when in Manchester and will not regret this stop neither will your stomach.
A taste of Italy in Vermont.
I can't believe it only now just occurred to me that I have never written a review for AL before. This is my favorite to-go-to-take-out place in Manchester . You can eat in of course....but I have a tradition of buying his wonderful semolina bread, a pound or so of his fabulous home made buffalo mozzarella, and I bring them home to make an insalata of tomato slices with mozzarella and fresh basil - drizzled with E.V.O.O., garlic slivers, and served with slices of warm bread. Heaven.
The pizza and pasta salads are also delicious, as is the roasted veggie with mozzarella sandwich (on forcaccia or semolina). You will  pay the high price for high quality. Many kinds of cheeses, meats, and house prepped frozen foods.
I have had his catered food and platters - all first rate. Good people. GO!
I just HAVE to upgrade these guys to five stars. What made me originally award only four, I'll never know. Chalk it up to temporary insanity, I suppose. They have everything going for them: quality, customer service, value, everything! Please see my detailed review below and be sure to check out the pix I've posted here.
Just eating their pizza in and of itself is akin to breathing in fresh air after having nearly drowned. I could sit and virtually inhale that wonderful stuff for hours! Ditto the sandwiches and everything else they feature. Bravo, Al Ducci!
