I love this place, the owner BIG Z makes my friends & I feel like family. The service is always on point, fast and most of all done with a smile.
I'm a BIG fan of the wings not to mention the garlic bread. If you didnt like the place I beg you to give them a second chance. They have great daily specials so you will save a great deal.
Service is just too slow here. The evening I was there it wasn't terribly busy but still took over 10 minutes to get a drink while sitting at the bar. Also, they attempted to charge me 2 different prices for the same drink. It's not a terrible place. It's laid out well with tvs all over the place. I'll probably be back because of the location but I'll know what to expect now.
Review Source:1 Star for I will not be going back. Some friends and I happened to wander by because a couple of them live close by and we wanted to watch some basketball at a bar.
The food we ordered was pretty bad. My burger was dry and and not tasty. The fries had a really strange aftertaste, described in my words as the umami/MSG flavor when I eat seaweed in Chinese seafood restaurants, and I was not the only one to notice the oddity. Whatever seasoning they're putting on the fries was extremely off-putting to us. The nachos were a big mess of soggy chips and sloppy toppings that lacked any real flavor.
Service was actually okay, quick and efficient. Maybe because there weren't many people there. There are a lot of TVs so it's easy to get a good view of whatever game you wish from almost any seat in the place. Â
That's all. Not worth the time in a place like downtown Chicago where bars and sports bars are aplenty.
This place has the best burger i have had in a long time. Â so big and juicy and the right price for sure! Â The miller Lite was cold and tall. Â and the service was fast and efficient. Â they knew our names before we left. Â Â we have walked by this place so many times, i don't know why it took us so long to go in.
The decor is for boys. Â maybe needs a woman's touch.
glad we stopped in though! we will be back.
Apparently the owner is quite the class act. Â This was his response to me after reading my review.
Hi my name is Zeze I'm the owner/mgr. of Allstars. I have been in business for over 20 years you comments are insulting. My family has been in the restaurant business since 1971 we currently own 7 different restaurants in Chicago. IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE JABS AT A PLACE AND NOT EVEN REACH OUT TO THE MGMT THE DAY YOU WERE HERE IS BASICALLY HYPOCRITICAL. If you were so unhappy you should have brought it up to mgmt that night. I take 99.9% of feedback constructively it's real important for us to know what we are doing right and wrong.
Thanks for your comments.
A neighborhood bar. Â In the Loop! Â Those two factors alone are enough to get me in the door. Â What keeps me coming back? Â Good service, daily specials, plenty of seats, and a solid menu. Â Added bonus: Allstars' kitchen is one of (if not the) last kitchen to close in the Loop, so if you're hungry and in the area, stop by!
Review Source:Went here after work for some drinks and appetizers. Â Used the yelp deal for $5 off. Â The server we had was very nice. Â We had a good time, but that was because of the company not because of Allstars.
I would probably come by here after work for some beers and to watch a sports game, but I doubt I'll come back for cocktails or real food. Â The drinks were weak and the guacamole had no flavor. Â Chips were stale and salsa tasted out of a bottle. Â The saltless warm pretzel and cheese dip was decent, but how can anyone screw that up? Â
Also, while our server was very nice and helpful, the other server there was in the bathroom for I don't know how long braiding her hair and when I went in she seemed oblivious to the fact that we needed to get to the sink to wash our hands and use the soap dispenser. Â Quit daydreaming and braiding your hair at the pace of a snail and get out of the way. Â Who wants to hang out in a bar bathroom anyway. Â I was weirded out. Â
I give this place a big "eh."
I privately call this Amnesia Bar. Â I've sat at that bar at least fifty times since moving across the street a year ago and it took over ten months for even one bartender to recognize me/my drink, and the rest are still clueless. Â After introducing ourselves at least the first half dozen times, it got to be a joke! Â
But, it's cheap and across the street, plus the people-watching can be ever so amusing, so what can I say? Â Oh yeah, "I'll have a Lite and a shot" since the odds are they won't remember!
Zeze, the owner, was very friendly, funny, and seemed like he knew what he was doing. I heard they had more locations
Place is cozy, lot of seatings & TV's, and most importantly, great beer selections. Great place to hang out to wach some games or UFC fights. Did you try their Bomb, some type of energy drink? He should sell the recipe to Red Bull. Need lots of energy for long sessions of lifting those heavy weights..... uhhh, some might call them beer mugs and large burgers... but they are "heavy" nonthelss. :-) Â Too bad I can't get them around where I live.
1/2 pound burgers are great. I would have paid more for it. I don't know how they make money selling it for $5 with fries. This low price theme continues with almost all the stuff they sell, judging from their menu and specials. Â
Great place to hang out with friends to watch games and have few bottles, or even by yourself like I was, since was just passing through Chicago.
Mediocre food and poor service
Went to watch the Big Ten basketball tournament. Â There were lots of TV's and they even had the audio on for the game I wanted. Â Thats about the best part of the whole experience. Â We walked in at 11am and there was only one other customer in the whole place - yet the server gave us a hard time for pushing two tables together in order to have the best TV viewing position. Â We were given menus and then he disappeared for 10 minutes. Â 10 minutes isn't awful in a crowded place, but there was only one other person. Â Food was ok. Â Server checked on us once while eating, and we sat with empty glasses for over 15 minutes. Â Took over 15 minutes to get the check. Â Definitely not the place to go if you want to get in and out.
I'm really glad I found this place. Wanted to meet a friend of mine for some post-work drinks and this place came up as a halfway spot. I had never heard of it and was a little nervous. However, my fears were quelled right away. Tons of seating, tons of TVs, and a very good beer selection. Not many on draft but a ton by the bottle. I also had the blacked salmon sandwich which was pretty good and some decent fries as well. Our server was nice but didn't come as often as I wish. Overall good place to watch the game or meet for drinks.
Review Source:Myself and my boyfriend were in Chicago for the weekend and we loved the hospitality of chicago people-until we came to this bar...we came here to watch the boxing match and were offered seats at the bar which was fine by us, however the bar staff were very rude-when my boyfriend ordered drinks he was served, when I asked I was ignored by the lovely bartender, I also asked her would she mind taking a picture of us which she just looked at me and walked off-I wouldnt mind if she had of been busy but she wasnt, she stood with her back to the bar watchin the tvs when she wasnt serving-not a good tactic when you work for tips. Maybe it was because I was a girl but I Â would recommend giving this bar a miss-esp on a sat night!! There are many other bars/sports bars in the city where the staff not only serve their customers but also acknowledges them!!
Review Source:It is to bad the service was so slow and waitress didn't know what she was doing, as this place is right by my office building and could have potentially been a regular go to for me and some coworkers. Â Even with a groupon-now for $10 off food/drinks and some of their beers on special for $3 etc. on weeknights, I probably won't be back. Â Here is the breakdown:
Friend and I arrive, weeknight around 6:45pm, not very busy, not even half full. Â Sit down at table and try to catch waitress's eye for menu. Â Took 10-15 minutes for her to come to our table, and when she did she asked what we wanted to drink. Â As we asked for menus, she noticed then that we didn't have any and said "Oh, sorry." Â She came back with food menus only, then asked us what we wanted to drink. Duh. Friend asks about drafts they have and gets Green Line, and I wanted a bottle so I had to ask for the drink menu too. Â Why didn't she just bring a drink menu with the food menu? Â She promptly drops drink menu with me, leaves.
She comes back 5 minutes later to take food order, no beer in hand for friend. Â We each order food and I order a Negra Modelo. Â 5 minutes later she comes with my Modelo, but no beer for my friend. Â When asked, she said the "tap is being changed, it will be a few." Â 5 minutes later, food comes (that was the fastest part!). Â Still no Green Line for friend, so my friend says I don't want to wait can you just bring me a Stella instead? Â Another 5 minutes, I have almost finished my beer and we have taken several bites of food before my friend gets her Stella. Â We have been here for over 30 minutes. Â Ouch. Â
Cashing out was painful and another slow process, as applying a groupon for the $10 off took forever for them to figure out, and a manager to explain. Â But man, am I glad we didn't pay full price for this slow-ass place.
They can't expect repeat business for the "working happy-hour crowd" if someone has to wait in an uncrowded restaurant/bar for over 30 minutes before getting a beer. Â
I gave them 2 stars for the burger, it was tasty.
Originally posted July 2011, but revised 10/14/11.
I work in the building, and we order their pepperoni pizza 1-2x a week, for pick up. Â I call ahead and they say it takes about 15-20min for it to be ready. Eating pizza in the place-it's usually 10-12 min to make a pizza.
I've eaten their mini burgers, salads, garlic bread, pizza, quesadillas, all your typical bar food. Service is friendly. If you have a coupon or eating an item on special, make sure to CHECK your bill, there was some confusion on how to ring up the specials-(3x already). If you saw a special on FB or via email- tell them AHEAD of time, because oftentimes the server isn't aware of that special.
The place a TON of tvs, awesome for sports watching!
Update 10/10/11: If you go to eat dinner, in the month of October, there aren't ANY specials. They do have daily drink specials/lunch specials that seem good.
Update: 10/14/11: I LOVE the pizza here. It's the best part! I come here 2x a week, and something always is messed up: the server doesn't know the specials, the pizza that I order isn't light on sauce, the server doesn't know how to ring up the specials, the pizza isn't a large. All things that can be easily apologized for, but I'm tired of it. I eat the same thing 2x a week!
The icing on the cake was their post on FB last night (now removed), complaining about 'a grumpy ass customer who wanted to talk to the manager', and how the mgr responded, even using the word B8tch in the post. Â Really? What a stupid, unprofessional, childish thing to post for all to see.
I'm done eating here. I'll walk to find another restaurant for my 2x a week dining out, when at work. (and yes, I wrote an email to the company on yelp beforehand.)
Great weekday bar. Â Went here on a saturday night at 9pm and there were maybe 10 people in the bar. Â That being said, they also have 50% off Pizzas on Saturday night. Â I got the BBQ chicken pizza and it was AMAZING. Â Thin crust, not little pieces of chicken, I'm pretty sure they cut up two or more breasts of chicken for this pizza. Â 14" pizza for $5.50, throw in a draft beer for $3, can't beat it. Â Very friendly staff. I can't wait to check out $5 cheeseburger/fries/soda Monday.
Good times!
Went afterwork on a Thursday. Plenty of room for a rapidly expanding, ever changing group. Waitress kept separate, split and shared tabs straight-- a rare feat. Originally rated at 3 stars, the service bumps it up to 4. Good cocktails, big couches and I like that whatever sport is in season is projected on the wall in the back.
Review Source:Went on Wednesday nite with a friend. Â The waiter took our drink order before we ever sat down, and was prompt the rest of the night.
Beers are cheap, $2 PBR drafts, and free appetizers that were actually more than just edible.
We will be back... Â we were looking for a new place to watch college games on Saturdays anyway.
Downtown burger without the downtown prices. Stopping in to visit the best server in the world, me and Brandon W checked out the menu and both got burgers. I loaded my burger up with some bacon and bleu cheese and it was monstrous. Somehow I ate the whole thing and the fries which was probably a grand mistake since I got very sleepy not too long after.
There are lots of TVs and I have stopped by after work for free hot buffalo wings, nachos, and pizza that hits the spot. There usually is a $3 drink special of some kind every night of the week so Allstar is always very affordable. The TVs are good enough to watch games and there are plenty of them.
I would probably stop by a bit more if they ever would put on the sound for games or for ESPN at the very least. There is usually adult contemporary on the radio which makes it not feel like so much a sports bar. Otherwise from that, Allstar is a very comfy bar to eat, drink, and pass the time after a long hard day at work.
A Co Worker and I stopped in for lunch one day around 2, The place was dead, but it was well past the usual lunch rush.
We sat at the bar and the bartender took our orders. Our server was friendly, making us feel welcome as we briefly chatted about some news and sports. We asked if we'd be able to get our food quickly, due to our 10 minute walk back to he office, he then told us the burgers should be ready very shortly. He also called me "bro" a few times. Not sure how i felt about that...
It took a long time for our food to be served, which was disappointing because we were 2 of the 4 people eating at the time. The bugers were amazing, and served in a hearty portion. I would have liked the food to come sooner so i could enjoy my meal instead of scarfing it down as fast as I could.
The bar looked presentable enough. It had a good amount of TVs scattered through out the bar, a pool table and some other arcade games that might intrest you after a few beers.
Quick summary: Good burgers, good beer deals..
This bar/restaurant does not know how to be a business.
I should have gotten the idea by the fact that during lunchtime there was no one in there. The first impression of All Star was of our waitress responding in confusion to us ordering Swithwicks, because she had never heard of a very common beer. So their beer selection sucks and their staff is clueless, whatever, it is a sports bar.
Then when we were done with lunch, turkey burgers which were pretty terrible and dry, we used a http://restaurant.com coupon for the bill. We were told that, although it is the same business as what was at 555 W. Madison, and that location no longer exists, that they no longer take these - even though it says on the coupon that they are good for a year. We were told by the waitress, "SORRY GUYS!" as she dropped the bill off, and told that even if we met all the qualifications of the coupon, they would not take it.
Their solution was to give us $5 off $20 orders on a future purchase. So basically, we were upset customers clearly with no intent of returning in the future if the problem was not addressed, and their solution was that we are welcome to come back and spend another $60 collectively for the three of us at their restaurant in the future. What a great deal!
I work in advertising. I know how this shit works. If you don't know how to follow through on partnerships like this, don't sign up for it as a business and don't allow your customers to print and attempt to redeem coupons. So they saved the $25 that my coupon was worth. I work a block away from this place and, had this went well, I would have returned regularly for lunches with clients, happy hour drinks, and recommended it to friends. Now, in the effort to skimp on our valid coupon, this place has lost my business and anyone's who I can come in contact with throughout the rest of the advertising industry and business district in Chicago. Nice job guys!
I have eaten here a couple of times and the food is quality at a fair price. Â I have also been in to watch the Hawks games where you can find great day of game specials. Â If you are looking for a great place to hang out watch sports and enjoy great atmosphere. Â
Check this place out!!!!
New location - Same great scene!
I watched the Blackhawks game last night with a group of friends here last night and had a great time. Chris the bartender was quick with the refills and the kitchen pumped out yummy snacks.
The room is big ready to accomodate parties or large groups of the after work crowd. The decor is fun and sporty - just like you'd expect. Lot's of windows and bright yellow walls.
I noticed they have a quick deli counter for those who work in the neighborhood and need their lunch fast. Nice touch!
I'll be making Allstar's one of my regular stops day or night!
All Stars is a decent little addition to 205 W. Wacker. Â I've been in the building for 3 years and am glad I now have a place to run downstairs and watch a couple innings of the Cubs games to get away from work. Â Do they entirely know what they are? Â Not really, but it's nice to have the walk-up deli side of the restaurant along with the sit down and watch tv and be served side of the restaurant. Â
I can tell you the food that I have tried has been good. Â The chicken sandwich is always cooked nicely. Â Tender breast for sure. Â The breakfast sandwich is righteous as well. Â It's real egg and a nice tasting bacon. Â The tuna is good and so are the salads. Â Nice and fresh with a good little variety. Â I must say that I am glad they are in the building. Â It's a nice change vs. Ricobenes and I look forward to utilizing their services much more in the winter when I don't feel like going outside. Â Keep it up guys and Let's Go Cubbies!!!
Do you have a craving for Champps, Red Robin, or similar chain restuarant quality food at affordable prices? Do you work in the Loop where these restuarants simply cannot be found? Would your friends mock you for driving out to the burbs to go to one of these places? Well, your destination has arrived.
This place is average defined. The waitstaff was present and well-rehearsed, but not super friendly. Food came in large portions, was fairly priced, but didn't really do anything to excite the taste buds. Atmosphere was something you could see they put effort into, but could easily be copied 100 times over if needed.
I had the App Sampler (which ironically enough I had discussed the lack of App Samplers at non-chains in the city just the night before). Tons of food for $10. Not awesome. Not bad, though. The person I ate with had a burger. Again, good portion size for the cost, but the burger was not cooked to specifications and lacked any 'wow' factor.
Our glasses of soda/tea stayed full, but I don't think we ever managed to get a smile out of the server.
TV's were plentiful, but poorly positioned in respect to the tables.
So, I'll be back, but I'd never make a trip down to the loop just to go here. If there weren't 4 super-cute chicks at the table next to us I may have even downgraded the place to a 2, but they helped make the atmosphere a little more pleasant and helped All Star's new location hold on to a solid 3 star.
In Ricobene's old space at the corner of Wacker and Wells, All Star attempts to make its name as a lunch spot an after work destination.
For after work, I can handle this place. Service was adequate and ample, plenty of seating and at $15 for a bucket of domestics and $20 for a bucket of imports, you won't break the bank. Â Free popcorn too? Sign me up.
After a few beers from the aforementioned buckets, we decided a snack would be in order. Big. Mistake. The appetizer sampler sounded safe consisting of fried everything ('shrooms, mozzarella sticks, onion rings), some potato skins and some wings. Not good. The batter was generic and and the frying was insufficient. Come on, if I'm gonna eat crap, make it worth my while. Not so here. It is a shame because RIcobene's could kick ass in the "eat like a fat kid" role.
For right now, it's a relatively quiet spot to grab a few beers after work with your pals. Popcorn is safe too. But the food? Definite room for improvement.
