This place has been around for nearly 50 years and while it moved many years ago from it's original location on North Ave just west of Austin, the pizza has remained good and consistent ever since. This was where I got my first "job" - delivering pizza flyers around the area when I was about 12 years old. Got a whole $1/hr plus free pizza with my "co-workers" on Saturday pay-days!
While I don't live close enough to frequently order from them anymore, I still pick up from them every so often when at my mom's place in Oak Park. Slightly cheesier and a little pricier than Jim & Pete's - which has been the other mainstay pizza place in the area for our family for many years. For me, it's a flip of the coin as to which is better. Either way, it's hard to go wrong. Mainly carryout nowadays, non-pizza items were always good too, though it's been awhile since I've had the pleasure of trying them.
Now I gotta say I usually love their stuffed pizza. It is one of my favorites. Which is usually the reason why I order there. But this time was just bad. I found not only one hair but two nasty curly hairs on my pizza. Yuck! I lost my appetite after the 2nd one. Just wear a hairnet, it's not that hard! Well, I am done ordering there for a while.
Review Source:The pizza here is always consistent! Â The Rewards program is great because the more you order, the more rewards you get, it's a no brainer! Â Once you try this pizza it will become your favorite! Â Also, I just tried the Buffalo Wings for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago. Â OMG! Â The Buffalo wings are LARGE and taste awesome! Â They're not small and wimpy like the place across the street (WingSt*p).
Review Source:I hate to complain but I ordered a pizza from this restaurant tonight and am disappointed. Â This is my second time ordering from there and the first time was fantastic. Â I couldn't stop talking about it. Â I was looking forward to having this for dinner and it tastes different - something has changed. Â Can't put my finger on it. Â The sauce? The sausage? Â I don't know. Â I am really sorry I had this bad experience. Â Won't be recommending this to anyone anymore.
Review Source:Great thin crust! Â I really enjoyed the sauce, cheese, and crust and will definitely order from here again. Â They have coupons posted on their website (that you can even just show them on your smartphone if you don't have a printer) so make sure you check those out. Â I tried Amato's after finding their menu in my building lobby and am pleased because I might not have stumbled upon it had I not seen the menu. Â My only complaint was that delivery took substantially longer than they told me, but I'll let that one slide if it turns out to be a one time problem.
Review Source:I have been coming here for years. I been living in my neighborhood since i was 5 years old. I always passed by this palce but never stop by. I go here all the time, and i take every friend here once. everyone has gone there after i taken them. price is a little higher than it was when i started but every place is like that. I love, love ,love this place. took me 7 months to get there highest rewards prize which is a free extra large pizza. Pizza, pasta, wings, fries and chicken is on point!
Review Source:This place is amazing. Amatos is my favorite pizza EVER. The crust is always perfect, the topping choices are amazing, the sauce is flavorful and garlicky...(not sweet) and their cheese is real mozzarella cheese. None of that fake weird cheese that so many pizza places use these days. We recently moved out of town, but whenever my husband and I are in the area, we choose to go to Amato's for their pizza and the fried mushrooms. If you are in the area and you don't have time to eat there, you can order a few tubs of their sauce and a few balls of their dough and try to make it at home yourself. I like to keep a few containers of their sauce in my freezer at all times so that it can quickly be defrosted and used as a dipping sauce for all kinds of things from mozzarella sticks to breaded zucchini. We love Amato's and I wish that there was a location closer to my house in Cary, IL!
Review Source:Met a friend here.....decided to have pizza. Â Wholy Pizza crustolly it was soaking in awesomenss.
Sauce was good...friendly and free refills. Â Plays was nice clean on the inside. Â Outdoor seating made it all the more relaxing. Â Waitress came outside to check on us a couple of times so it was nice. Â And the blond (whom I forget her name but is a journalism major) was funny.
A bit of a haul for me but totally awesomesauce. :) Â I think they have a private lot but I parked in the street.
First of all, we have been going to Amato's since we moved to the neighborhood (Sept '10). This is our go-to pizza place. We love the thin crust and it's right around the corner. I don't remember us ever being disappointed.
We opted to pickup tonight. I arrived and waited for about 2 minutes before an employee (I assume the Manager) came out with my pizza. He informed me that the pizza hit the back of the oven and a small portion of the crust was missing. Really...not a big deal. However, he told me that he already had another pizza in the oven and he was going to give me both pizzas. Yes, I had to wait an additional 10 minutes, but it was not a big deal.
Had the Manager said nothing and  I got home and the pizza had a little deformity, I probably wouldn't have really worried about it. The point is, Amato's requires absolute perfection out of their product. This individual refused to serve a product that was any less than perfect.
In a world where customer service is severely lacking, I needed to take the time to give a big "hats off" to Amato's Pizza. Yes, we'll be back because we love the pizza. However, I'll now go out of my way to make sure I spread the word about this fine establishment.
Well done to Amato's and your Staff!
I decided to order some Amato's since I never tried it before and I received a menu in the mail. I've passed by Amato's a million times and one of my best friends works there, plus I've heard great reviews from this place. The girl who answered the phone was quick and friendly in taking my order. I wasn't in the mood for going out in public so I placed an order for delivery. Stuffed cheese pizza, a 6-pack of 7-up, and tiramisu. The delivery took a little longer than expected but I gave the guy some slack since I'm not particularly close. I'm about 15 min away. Pizza was really good and so was the dessert. For the nice summer days, Amato's has patio tables outside for patrons. I recommend Amato's if you haven't tried them yet!
Review Source:We used to order their pizza quite often. Â The thin crust is very good and also pricey. Â But I only gave it 1 star because they refuse to honor their online pricing and specials. Â I will not do business with a company that refuses to honor their own advertised pricing....and on top of that, the guy on the phone who refused the pricing was rude. Â Sorry Amato's, there are just too many good pizza joints in Elmwood Park....you just lost a regular customer.
Review Source:It's not our favorite tasting pizza, but we like Amato's every once in a while as their delivery has always been fast and the pizza hot. Â Me and the wife have also stopped in a few times on the weekdays and it's always been quiet, which is nice. Â I would recommend Amato's to friends.
Review Source:Always drove by this place but never bothered going in. Â Inside was nicely air-conditioned. Â Got a sausage slice to go for about $3. Â Slice was about 9 inches long.
Not there was anything wrong with my slice but, it seemed really heavy and rich with each and every bite, as if I might be getting a stomach ache if I continued eating it. Â I found it to be very similar to Coluta's, which is just a few blocks north of Harlem/Belmont. Â Toppings were huge and dough was pretty thick.
Stopped in here after getting food for the pooch across the street. They have a good special, 2 slices and a canned or fountain drink of your choice for just under $6. Good bang for the buck. The slices almost seemed to be more of a NY style. The slice was lukewarm, but the crust and toppings were pretty good. I'd be willing to bet it's a solid pizza when fresh. Wouldn't go out of the way for it, but if I'm in the area and have the taste for some "za" it's not a bad spot.
Review Source:Their slogan is "Perfect Every Time"....it is true! Â I notice people complaining about the price, but I'm not sure there is a better pizza in town that is cheaper than Amato's. Â
Delivery is fast and pizza always comes hot.
I miss walking to the old location on North Ave when I was a kid....and then stopping in the card/comic shop next door. Â Basically Amato's and the card/comic shop is where all my allowance money went....but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Amato's makes a solid pizza with little frills. Â Normal appetizers that you'd expect anywhere. Â Good pasta and quality pizza. Â I prefer the Glendale heights location, but will go here when I am at my parent's house and with little options available. Â They are a bit high on the price side but less than what I used to pay at Armand's
Review Source:My family has been ordering pizza from here for  years. Since they were at their North Ave location. The pizza has flavor and it's crust is so crispy. The sausage is delicious and i'm not a fan of  sausage. Their pizza is on the pricey side but the sizes are huge. Their other stuff on the menu is also good including the fried panzoretti.
Review Source:This review would be a 5 star if Amato's wasn't so pricey. Â Their thin crust is perfect, crispier on the outside edge pieces, and a bit more substantial for the middle pieces. Â If you like sausage as a topping, I haven't found better sausage topping in this part of town. Â Spicy, chunky, and perfectly done! Â Their delivery is timely, the kids working there are friendly, and an extra large (although somewhat pricey) gives my family of four enough for two meals. Â So I guess the extra $ is worth it. Â Try Amato's if you're inteh area, you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:When my husband and I moved into our new home, this was the first place we ordered from. Â Now, we are regular patrons, loving the wonderful pizza sauce, double dough and nightly "specials". Â Both of us grew up in opposite areas of the city and still can agree that this place is some of the best pizza available - and that's a tough bill to fill when you are living next to Elmwood Park that has a pizza place on every corner!
Review Source:There used to be an Amato's at Sheffield and Clybourn. Â The one out on Harlem Avenue is excellent. Â Besides great pizza they serve a great panzerotti. Â If you don't know, this is basically a calzone, but has a lot more cheese and sauce inside. Â They are excellent! Â If you find that the Lincoln Park location is still open, it's worth stopping by to try.
