Happy Pollo

I tried take-out once and thought the chicken asada dinner was pretty great, with a big grilled jalapeño and really, really good thick tortillas.

Grilled chicken does take a little time to cook, I like the reviewer complaining that it smelled like grilled chicken in there, that was probably... the chickens on the grill. If you don't like the smell of chickens being grilled, enjoy your Taco Bell.

So last night we went back to try eating there. The atmosphere isn't great... it's drafty (the owner?/manager? was wearing a parka inside) and they were blasting ranchero videos and a hispanic talk show on the big-screen TV. But the service is friendly and the food is great. we got a basket of fresh tostadas with good salsa, and a plate of lime-cilantro sauce and ceviche. I ordered their odd-looking pollo asado quesadilla as an appetizer, and it was the best quesadilla I've ever had. I have no idea what they do to it, but I'm pretty sure it's not good for your arteries.

The pollo asado was great again, and my wife got a giant plate of camarones diablo, (spicy shrimp). She said she just wanted to drink the leftover sauce when she was done. They're somehow related to the fancier mexican seafood place Las Islas Marias (which I've heard mixed things about) so they serve mostly seafood dishes, and chicken and carne asada, that's pretty much it. I don't like seafood much, but I'll eat that chicken anytime.

You can BYO beer and wine, too, good to know for next time.

If you are looking for nice family restaurant for a nice chicken dinner. This is not the place. On saturday evening, my husband decided we would try this new restaurant. We went in. the place was very smokey. It smelled like chicken was cooking in an out door grill inside. We ordered 3 meals, grabbed our fountain drink cups and filled them up. We sat patiently watch a little movie preview and waited, and waited, and waited. The place filled up with eager customers and they too ordered, and waited, And, we waited. Finally, I went to fill up my soda. I noticed there was nothing on the grill, nothing on the counters. It smelled like chicken was cooking, but I sure didn't see any. I asked the young teenager at the register, if it would be much longer, because I had already finished my large drink, and I sure did not want to wait longer. She very snobbish told me " You want a refund""???
I was a little surprised and said, "as a matter of fact, Yes". Just charge my drinks and we're on our way. We never saw any chicken, but our clothes sure smelled like grill chicken BBQ.  We ended up down the road at a TacoBell / LongJohnSilvers. They treated us well , and we had a great dinner after all.
