Ate at the location in the international terminal. 3 hours to kill waiting for our flight to Bangkok and we were starving. The international terminal had very limited choices once we cleared security.
We really wanted a sit down nice meal. We did not choose wisely. It was more than disappointing food. It was not even somewhat close to ok. That is based on an experience from a vegetarian (me) and carnivore (my man). Two thumbs down for food, atmosphere and service.
Someone needs to fix that terminal. It's a shame that is what a great culinary city like SF offers their international travelers.
I've been eating at Andale since 1999 and had always enjoyed the food very much. But I'm writing a review and giving them one star only because I'm fed up with their carelessness and stinginess.
I appreciate the fact that they try to use organic and sustainable ingredients but the food quality is lacking. I don't appreciate that the last two times I've been  to the restaurant I've been served rancid tortilla chips. It's not only unhealthful but toxic. Tortilla chips are bad enough without the rancidity. I'm taking away one star for that.
I'm tired of the ever shrinking portions of beans and rice they serve with items like fish tacos. Give me a break, rice and beans are cheap to make, no need to serve such minuscule amounts. It's outrageous! One star taken away for stinginess.
And lastly, two more stars taken away for the not so fresh and stinky fish in my tacos and the awful smell of bleach coming from the mop being used to mop the floor while I was eating. Â
I find it extremely offensive when someone uses chemicals around people. I also find it rude that the person cleaning the floor has no regard for the fact that we're eating and comes inches away from mopping my feet under the table.
Worst airport food  EVER. We ordered the tofu fajitas burrito and tofu salsa tacos. Sounds good, huh?
The tacos included tepid tofu on soggy corn tortillas with a bad, bad salsa-type sauce. No lettuce, no cheese, no tomato, no guacamole, but the plate did have a tiny portion cup of black beans and a tiny portion cup of dirty looking rice. No kidding, it looked and tasted dirty. I thought the little grainy-looking bits were spices, but now I'm not so sure...
The burrito was a little better but we wouldn't order it again. Which will not be a problem because I would eat almost anything before I ate there again. What a waste. Save yourself and eat someplace else.
You could stop in way, way worse places for food in an airport. Andale is not just good by that standard, it could holds its own as decent Mexican food. Let me start by pointing out the kickass beverage selection. You can watched whole oranges get crushed before your eyes to get the perfect juice. Or you can order other non-alcoholic refreshments from the bar, like watermelon juice. I didn't even think it was in season.
Despite how busy it was at the Int'l Terminal, it took no longer than 10 minutes to get my burrito--the Presidente. The beans and chicken it's stuffed with are just okay, but it's topped in delicious, generous guacamole, and smothered in a red chili sauce that's mild yet flavorful. My favorite part was how they top it all off with garlic shrimp--which was more than exceptional. I could enjoy a plate of them alone.
A high-quality drink and said burro will run about $14, but if you're here to begin with, you have the money. Spend it wisely on an empty stomach, and spend it here.
I just don't get it... how does someone make a breakfast burrito made with homemade chorizo taste so... bland? I could taste the egg, but the chorizo was almost noticeable. I couldn't believe it. I picked out a chunk at ate it on its own, and same thing.
I was craving a breakfast burrito, and this place just did not satisfy. I won't say it was horrid, but it just didn't hit the spot.
Maybe I've just been spoiled... I've had some pretty stellar breakfast burritos in San Diego, so may it just isn't a fair comparison.
Pretty good and reliable option for Terminal 2. The fresh chicken and fish and shrimp burritos and fajitas are very good.
The to-go sandwiches and salads are quite mediocre. They sometimes skimp on the napkins and utensils which can be very very annoying. And the breakfast burritos are terrible in my humble opinion (too little of the good stuff like chorizo, too much of the fillers like chicken).
Normally would thus say 3 stars but it gets a half point bump since I am so happy to see a decent fast affordable Mexican opinion in the airport. Very few airports have that to be honest.
Yes, I'm definitely a fan... Â I normally have the burrito supreme which comes with a salad and chips. Â I fly in and out of SFO frequently and must say Andale is one of the better places to dine at... Â
Although their portions are downsizing, its still a decent deal for an airport restaurant.
I was in SFO, hungry, and needed sustenance before my transcontinental flight. Â I got the shrimp quesadilla and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but not expecting what I got. Â It wasn't horrible, but like my star rating suggests, I've experienced better. Â
The shrimp was fresh but the seasoning was off. Â I thought there may be more spice, but all I tasted was tomato and citrus. Â The food served its purpose to provide sustenance but I didn't really enjoy the experience. Â
Head over to the "Just Deserts" kiosk and just overload on sugary treats as your meal.
I have no idea what prompted me to decide to have Mexican food on my layover in SFO. Â With Mexican food more often than not being the gastrointestinal kiss of death and judge-and-jury sentencing for you to the toilet; it's generally not a good idea to eat Mexican on a one-hour layover followed by a five hour connecting flight. Â Yet, there it was -- Andale, right there smack dab in the middle of the food court. Â Still existing since my last layover through SFO. Â And doing very well.
They looked clean enough. Â Open kitchen. Â I hadn't had decent Mexican food in about two years since moving away from California. Â Once I read the menu, with Fish Tacos and Al Pastor; and then was reassured watching the plates of food being served, I caved in and went against my good sense. Â And it was a good decision.
Here's what you need to know about Andale @ SFO:
FOOD:
If you live in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, or any of the states near-ish to Mexico, where you can stroll up past a bunch of amigos sitting on the curb to a filthy taco truck parked on the side of the road serving delicious homestyle tamales or if you can walk in to a hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop shop where grandma is carving thin slices of Al Pastor meat straight into a tortilla for you, you won't be impressed. Â For the rest of us who don't have the luxury, Andale tastes great. Â
My Al Pastor Supreme Burrito was good. Â Once again, not mind-blowing, but good. Â I ordered Al Pastor, but it wasn't. Â Pork, sure. Â But not Al Pastor. Â I didn't really care though, because it tasted good anyway. Â The fish tacos the guy next to me was eating looked good too, and by the way he was wolfing them down, I'm assuming he was happy with his choice as well.
The plate comes with a hefty handful of real tortilla chips, and a pretty tasty salad with Pear and some kind of Quesa Fresco cheese. Â I found that by adding lime, onion and cilantro to it, it tasted even better (you can get this at the condiment bar). Â The condiment bar also had a decent selection of fresh Salsas. Â Most of the dishes here are the standard neo-American-Mexican fare, allowing you to choose from several kinds of meat in various forms of tortilla with a mixture of the standard rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese fillings. Â Again, nothing special, but still good.
And even more important than good: Â No indigestion. Â I was safe all the way to Atlanta.
PARKING:
Parking is available nearby at Gates 68 through 90 but unless you are rated to fly at least a 737 or CRJ-700, you probably won't be parking there. Â Unless you feel like spending a bunch of money to buy a plane ticket to clear TSA just to eat here.
ORDERING:
Get in line, order from the register on the right. Â They'll give you one of those flashy buzzer things. Â Lead time is fast, about 5 minutes or so. Â Andale, indeed. Â Pick up at the counter to the left side near the Condiment/ Salsa Bar.
SEATING:
Plenty in the food court, but always busy. Â Or take it back to your gate. Â Or take it to go on the plane and make everyone around you either madly jealous or hate you. Â Also, watch the beans, unless you are trollface. Â Poot.
SERVICE:
They take your order and hand you a plate of food, pretty much.
ATMOSPHERE:
Loud. Â Busy. Â Stressed out people. Â Everyone going somewhere in a hurry. Â People just want to eat and go. Â You're in the middle of the big nexus in the United Airlines terminal at SFO.
COST:
Airport food is always expensive, but Andale is reasonable at about $8 to $10 an entree.
VALUE:
Good value, especially considering airport food is so expensive. Â Truth be told, everything in that food court is pretty good. Â SFO, imo, has some of the best airport food of any airport I've ever been to. Â
VERDICT:
I'd eat here again on my way back through if I didn't feel so lucky for dodging a bullet from the food gods. Â I also don't want to tempt fate again. Â Mexican food before getting on a plane is just not a good idea. Â But the food IS good; especially for notoriously bad Airport Food. Â And if you don't get a chance to at least have decent Mexican food where you come from, or if you're only stopping by in California on a layover and want to eat something California-like, Andale does the job just fine. Â Without indigestion too.
3.5/5 with a nod to 4. Â If I still lived in California, Andale would be meh. Â But I don't. Â So it hit the spot and did its job, especially for eating at the airport.
I had zero expectations going in to this Andale and I was nicely impressed.
The watermelon augua fresca was really wonderful though I did swallow a pit or two.
Their vegetarian burrito may have been overpriced but it was a nice sized burrito, had some good fresh guacamole, and was supplemented by hot sauce and salsa from a pretty impressive bar.
For an airport I was pretty happy.
I wanted to eat at this place because of the great reviews... However, I was disappointed at the cleanliness of the place... as I waited for my burrito, one of the cooks doused the floor with ammonia and proceeded to pick up the floor plastic carpets one by one and set them aside... picking up trash from under them... As I was watching, using the same gloves, he moved my burrito (the other cook left it
open for a while before
wrapping it up) while he cleaned the food preparation area with a dirty rag... Disgusting! Needless to say, I cancelled my order and moved on to Lark Creek.
I don't know how this restaurant is rated as high it is. Â As a born and raised Californian this is really pathetic food. Â There is absolute no flavor. Â I've tried both the beef and the chicken andale burritos and it was completely bland. Â I would have much rather eaten Taco Bell. Â Chipotle would have been a delicacy compared to what I ate. Â
I understand that airport food can be bad, but there is no excuse for what I ate. I think you're better off at anywhere, but here. It's not much cheaper than other places, I paid $9 for my andale chicken burrito, I imaging other places are around the same price.
It's not everyday that you find good food in an airport. Â I'm wandering around my throat full of dust, and my tummy craving some fruit after days and days in the desert. Â What do I find but this great spot, and I order some tostadas. Â They're happy to make them veggie for me and I smile that they made the effort!
It was damn tasty, and with a fruit box besides. Â I was tempted to have a drink, but it was 10 at night, and I was ready to crash for my flight anyway. Â
So long SF!
Flying through here there are a lot of food items. I don't know why I've gone to Andale twice now.
The first time, my $9-and-change "vegetarian burrito" had little pieces of chicken in it. I found out halfway through gobbling it down. It literally is called a vegetarian burrito too. The second time I mentioned this to them and they made it just perfectly. But it's such a messy food item- grease and oil are everywhere and you'll show up at your destination dirty.
Fast and easy to grab but the grease and price make it not worth it.
Skip it and go to any of the neighboring food spots.
Came here about a week ago to have a breakfast burrito and it probably was the worst breakfast burrito I've ever had. Â Its texture was weird, the eggs were cooked such that they had a weird crumbly feta cheese like texture, and most of all it was pretty small, lacked flavor (as Mexican food should have!!!) and not filled with enough queso. Â But hey, it's in the airport, and the airport is known for disgusting, small portioned food at exorbitant prices! Â Andale is no exception.
I had asked the cashier if I could have my eggs in my breakfast burrito as just egg whites; he said 'no' because 'it was too busy'. Â Well, that morning, there were only a few patrons, so it wasn't "that busy" as he had told me... but at least he was honest by flat out saying "no". Â But, for those who have high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), this may pose a problem since healthier alternatives (such as "just egg whites") need to be provided at this restaurant. Â It would be unethical to tell a customer, "we can't just serve you egg whites because it's too busy, even though you have high cholesterol". Â Sorry, but Andale, you need to have the HEALTHIER "egg whites only" option, to cater to those who have high cholesterol problems.
Because the International Terminal doesn't have many food options, and I was hungry, I had succumbed to my hungry stomach's churnings, and ate here. Â Was it a mistake? Â Probably. Â Would I come back here? Â No. Â What would I do next time? Â Bring a meal from home, now knowing that there are NO good food choices in the international wing at SFO.
Avoid! Â Bring your own food from home if you're traveling internationally at SFO!!!! It'll be cheaper and tastier than the "Mexican" food at Andale!
One of my burning questions at an Airport is which side of Security offers the better food and shopping options. The answer at the G Side of SFO's International Terminal is to dine early before letting the TSA "Touch My Junk". Â
So instead of the Food Court in the Departures Hall, I was offered the choice of Andale, a Bait Shop (Sushi), and a smallish Deli. The tie breaker among these "lesser than 3 evils" was that Andale was roomier and offered draft Anchor Steam (and Sierra Nevada) from their full-service bar.
My Tostada Salad was just OK and got better after I cleared out most of the higher calorie guacamole and sour cream that was drowning out the tasty guajillo chicken. The menu selection was fairly decent and the counter service was to quote Mr. Spock - Satisfactory.
I also had too much time on my hands, so it was nice to hang out and listen in on various conversations, mostly from Air New Zealand passengers and Domestic folks just arriving. And what was that person at the next table doing on her new Mac Book Air?
Did somebody seriously have the balls to take a shit on a dried out tortilla and charge me 20 bucks for it? Â Because that's honestly what my chicken quesadilla looked and tasted like. Â I actually left most of it and decided to wait and eat airplane food. Â Â
Really, Andale?!?! Â You made me actually look forward to a meal served at 35,000 feet crammed into a seat on my way to Zurich?! Â You made me look forward to AIRPLANE FOOD?!?!?
Nice going, dipshits!
I'm pleased to update my previous review of Andale and give it a better one this time. This is still not the best Andale in the Bay Area, but it's not bad (though the bar is quite good).
Having arrived at the appropriate hour this time, I was able to get the breakfast burrito I wanted on my last visit. It was very tasty, and just the right amount of food. The management still hasn't bothered to indicate during what hours breakfast is available. You just have to inquire and keep your fingers crossed.
I am in LOVE with Andale. Â They used to have one in the Marina where I live. Â Sadly it is now Chilayo. Â They used to have one in Palo Alto where I worked. Â Sadly it is now closed. Â So the only opportunity I have to enjoy their DELICIOUS Mexican food is when I'm at the airport.
The chicken tacos here are unrivaled. Â Get them crispy, with guac. Â Honestly, I didn't even like guacamole until I started eating it on these tacos. Â I can take out a trio of these things in under 10 minutes. Â The cheese is so delicious and the chopped romaine is always super crunchy and very fresh. Â
I'm flying on Thursday and I know what I'll be having for lunch! Â Great if you have time to kill between flights, but also efficient if you're in a hurry. Â They can fill an order in less than 5 minutes, even under the busiest of circumstances. Â Take it on the plane with you and make everyone around you jealous!
I came here to kill time when my flight was delayed by three hours. Three hours! Also, I wanted to watch the Lakers game since it was game 1 of the finals.
The bartender was really nice and made me a giant mimosa that came in a huge wine glass. Drinking on an empty stomach was a great idea because after two giant mimosas I was feeling awesome. I wanted to jump up and yell at the TV when I disagreed with the call, or clap loudly and pump my fists in the air when the Lakers scored, but I had to restrain myself. Watching a game on mute is no fun!
I would definitely come back here if I had another three hours to kill.
The BEST airport food we've tried so far! And the friendliest airport restaurant staff we've come across!!!
They were more than accommodating, clear in communication, clean in preparation, and happy to be doing what they were doing which reflected in high quality of service. We had the loaded nachos (vegetarian) and really enjoyed it!
*This is for the Andale in the Domestic terminal*
I finally made it to the Andale in SFO and it wasn't all I thought it would be. First of all my poor little Andale is all the way in the back of the small food court. It sits there with such a sad face and it's sort of disappointing compared to their other locations that always seem to be so inviting and festive. There was no one there, it was just my boyfriend and I sitting in a corner looking like burrito thieves. The supremo burrito was good but not as great as the Palo Alto location (RIP) or the original Los Gatos restaurant, but it did fill the spot I have for Andale in my heart.
If Andale were located in any other location I'd probably complain that they were overpriced. However for this location it did manage to fulfil a burning need I had.
I was flying out of SFO for a 2 week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, so I was fairly certain I would not have an opportunity to get my burrito fix. Enter Andale, a swank "taqueria" that is probably a little bit more in line with a Chevy's than a taqueria in the Mission. It's a nice spot, with it's own bar and large LCD TVs for passing some time while you're in the airport.
I had a regular carne asada, burrito that hit the spot, and helped keep me sane the following 2 weeks in southeast Asia. Good stuff, I'll stop by the next time I'll be overseas.
MMMMmmmmm! I love getting me some true cheesy quesadillas before I embark off to dairy intolerant asia land. This place does a pretty good job in food quality and consistency. I always end up ordering the supreme carne asada quesadilla. They plop on a scoop of guac and a squirt of sour cream and I'm in my happy place...
Unfortunately there is something about the Asian palate... they don't do well with cheese. Hence the cheese in Taiwan is slightly sweet. YECHE!!!
I resisted the temptation to make allowances for the fact it is airport food, as that just supports the dysfunctional relationship we have with such establishments. Â I've tasted good airport food, it really does exist so I say be critical and things will get better.
So to Andale, a pretty ordinary Mexican chain I'd say. Â I've experienced the scale here, the one in the Westfield Centre for example is truly awful. Â However here at SFO they seem to get things right for the most part.
It is my usual choice when I am in a rush to catch my plane and sadly I am at SFO really quite frequently so I've had a number of experiences to base my review on. Â The quesadillas here are pretty good, avoid the steak and go for the chicken and you will be presented with decently spiced, albeit a little generic and tender chicken sandwiched with a piquant salsa and the right amount of queso. Â A pet hate of a quesadilla is where the quesa overpowers the dilla, not a problem here.
I also like the fact they serve the sour cream and guacamole on the side so you can control your fat intake. Â $8.50 for a regular is on the pricey side but if we are willing to pay it, then they are willing to charge it. Â The "captive audience" rule does apply here.
On the downside, their breakfast burritos are pretty nasty and difficult to eat. Â They use generic food service tortillas that are tough and mealy at the end of the wraps and then they fall apart as you are trying to stuff them into your face whilst running for that last call at gate 24.
Most of the produce seems fresh and they have a wide range of salsas to augment your meal with.
I grade on a curve; Andale gets five stars for _airport food_, although in the real world it's a 4-star join'.
I almost never eat airport food, particularly before taking off from home -- it's pricey, greasy, and uniformly unsatisfying. Â However, oversleeping and traffic got the better of me, so I had to skip the most important meal of the day to make my flight, which was, of course, delayed when I got to SFO. Â Hello Andale...
At around 10:00 a.m., they offered their full menu, so I ordered a steak quesadilla. Â
Hits:
1) friendly staff -- the order taker was extra-courteous, which was a welcome contrast to the airport and airline employees.
2) very clean -- the whole kitchen area is visible, and there were no unwelcome surprises.
3) food -- the well-grilled tortilla was full of cheese (surprise) and a reasonable amount of tender, well-marinated steak. Â With more steak, this would have been a five-star review.
I could have gone healthier and gotten a chicken burrito with less cheese, but hey, I was on vacay anyway. Â And ironically, this combo did not taste greasy at all (although perhaps the tortilla absorbed all them triglycerides). Â Hoo-ray for tortillas; my cholesterol is still only 144...
The side of guac was thick, chunky, and appropriately mild so that you could taste the avocado (is there ever a reason to over-spice guac?). Â The side of pico de gallo was good, too.
Miss (singular):
The SFO markup. Â This is hardly unique to Andale, but $8.61 is a lot for an f'ing quesadilla. Â Relatively speaking, though, this isn't bad considering that a bottle of water runs close to $4.
I love math. Â When 1 steak quesadilla = 2 bottles of water, I'll pick steak every time.
Andale is awesome- no matter the location.
I think its pretty random of them to open more than one airport locations, but hey - I'm down with it. Â Something besides a $12.95 Wolfgang Puck chicken Cesar salad that is dry as hell? Â Hell yea! Â Its a welcome addition to airport food, and it's fresh and pretty authentic in my opinion.
I used to come to the one on Chestnut allllll the time for the fajitas. Â These are the BEST fajitas around - better than Chevy's. Â The little outdoor fireplace is a quaint touch as well...i remember battling for that seat on more than one occasion. Â And they have really good cantaloupe fresca, also.
Andale in SFO's International terminal is a great food option before getting on a 10-hour flight overseas. Â You get a last run at some quality Mexican food in a cantina setting, before heading off on an adventure.
This location is inside of International security, so only open to those travelling overseas.
They make a terrific breakfast burrito and their fresh salsas are pretty good. Â
4-stars for travel food.
Whew! Now that's a friggin espiceeeey Bloody Mary mang!
So last night I was waiting to board my plane, bored being the operative word and since I had a good 25 minutes to kill, I thought, "Hey, Bloody Mary!!!" I swear, I am addicted to those tomatoeeey bastards! Anyhoo, I wrangled on up to the bar and the very nice bartender poured me up one hell of a spicy one.
He then entertained me with travel banter and wouldn't let me leave without finishing my drink. "But I have to catch my plane!" "Eh, the plane will wait, finish your drink!" "Whatever you say boss, see ya!"
End of or beginning of the day for some of you drinkers, it's an airport bar and if you've ever flown out of the Southwest Terminal at Oakland you know that your options are pretty slim to none, so considering that and the fact that this BM did more than it's relaxing job for the plane ride home, I say 5 stars all the way!
The best looking restaurant at International G Concourse.
Modern decor, relax seating arrangement , and the only FULL BAR/BAR at G concourse. Â What else could you ask for??? Â
You could either choose  to get "slightly intoxicated" before boarding or order the grab-n-go options for your in-flight meal.  Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to try this one yet.  At least, the bar looks so tempting.  A full bar deserves a 4-star ranking.
Restaurant Hours: Daily 8am-10:30pm
Bar Hours: Open until 12am
