I have been to Arooga's probably a few dozen times with friends and the experience is always consistently average.
On the positive side, you can choose from a lot of wing flavors. My favorites are the buffalo blue or kinda-hot medium. I like getting the wing special with the tater tots, celery, and blue cheese because its not that expensive. The menu is vast and intimidating, which is why I stick with the appetizers and wings I enjoy. The sometimes have interesting beers on tap or trivia nights going on, which is a plus.
The service is hit and miss. Unfortunately, there is more "miss" than "hit" here. While the servers are always friendly and a manager tends to walk around and ask how we are doing, they tend to disappear for extended periods of time into the back. We have had food brought out cold that we have had to send back, appetizers and entrees brought out simultaneously, and empty glasses for way too long. They are always hiring new, inexperienced servers. However, the more experienced waitresses are friendly and generally pretty good.
Don't even get me started with their points program. You could drop about 1 grand at this restaurant and will be rewarded with a $5 coupon or something similar. They need to seriously overhaul their loyalty program if they want to actually reward their loyal customers!
If you want a chill place to meet a bunch of friends and watch a game or eat relatively late, this is a good spot. Just keep your expectations relatively low!
Against my better judgement, I agreed to come to Aroogas after swearing on my life I'd never ever set foot in one on any of my trips home to Harrisburg.
It's a sports bar. So gentlemen, expect a bunch of  20-somethings in too-tight, a little too low cut referee shirts serving up your food.  Service was attentive and food came out quickly.
Speaking of food... since it's a sports bar, you can imagine what you might find on the menu here. Â The most unhealthy selection of cheese-smothered, fried food imaginable. I think there was one relatively healthy thing on this menu that I could find (a veggie plate with a side of uninspired ranch dressing) but no one goes to a sports bar to count calories, do they? I'd imagine a trip to the cardiologist isn't out of the question if you eat here even semi-regularly - this is calorie overload.
Drinks: I feel like the best thing this place has going for it are the drink specials. Cheap! Why don't they have deals like this in NJ/NYC? A decent selection of craft brews along with the usual bar suspects so if you want to indulge in some decent beers, you can do that here.
Otherwise -- I don't know what I can say that hasn't been said before. Will I be returning? Doubtful, as this isn't really my scene but it was fine to try it out once just to see what it's like, since they seem to be everywhere in the Harrisburg area.
It's a great neighborhood bar. Have been to two of their locations and this is my favorite since its proximity to my home.
Decent beer and liquor selections, Vizios  all around and the BEST wings, hands down. I have tried only few other items on the menu and was not impressed at all. It's as if they they have 100% to wings and like 39% to other dishes. Be your own judge. I wouldn't mind hanging out here any time.
I love the wings here but sometimes it's overcooked or under cooked. Most of the time they get it just right. I'm under the age of 21 so I don't know much about how the bar is doing. There are a TON of Tvs but some of them are defective and the color is weird. I got this really rude waitress one time and I was very displeased she was telling us that their manager told us we will be charged if we share wings on the all you can eat special because we've done it the last time even though one of their waitress advised to do so when my friend forgot money.
Review Source:Never have I been to a sports bar and experienced sensory overload but there's a first time for everything. Â My family and I went out to Aroogas on a college football Saturday night. Â From my table, I was able to follow nearly 10 games simultaneously. Â It was almost distracting how many games were on at the same time, but what a great problem to have! Â
As for the food, it was way better than I expected. Â I had the twice baked wings and sliders. Â The wings were so crispy and delicious I wish I would have ordered some to take home. Â Our meal ended with the cookie pizza (save room for this masterpiece).
The only thing missing at Aroogas is a room full of beds because I could have gone to sleep immediately after that overdose of food and drink. Â Can't wait to go back!
Worst service ever. Took forever for server to come to the table to start off, then the same waiting for our beer And then again to order our food. I understand this place gets pretty busy. Well it was dead when we were there. I was sitting directly under an air conditioner and when I asked if we could move or turn the vent we were told no even though multiple other tables were open. When our food finally came Only my boyfriend's food came out I had to wait for my food because " something happened" so my order didn't go through. when it finally came out it wasn't to order and I never got any of the sides I asked for... I ate with a smile on my face & didn't  complain because I wanted to enjoy dinner with my boyfriend but inside I was very disappointed. I work in a restaurant too so it's extra frustrating.
Review Source:Lots and lots of TVs if you don't see a game there is enough tvs around they should be able to put it on for you.
Okay now the important stuff! Was there on an all you can eat wing night! Tue. All you can eat wings and fries that is and you hve to buy a drink at full price of course. Celery and carrot sticks anr ranch dressing extra! Â To start you get 10 wings and fries. The wings mostly are the smaller less meaty portion not the drumstick side Mine was like 8-2 ration wise the second round was 4-1 and the third round 5-0 but they do make sure you get plenty of fries.(got 2 make money somewhere).
Their Rhino Sauce although not their hottest was sufficently spicy enough for me a little hotter than buffalo alot tastier. I had that for my first 10 the second &third rounds of 5 wings each I had Coal Cracker Sauce it definately isn't from The Hard Coal Country of Schuykill Cty it has a blended spice and cheese but is mild not really sure why they named it Coal Cracker. Over all not a bad Dinner Wings Fries and a couple of cold beers. The service was good and the waitress friendly. I'll go back again.
Terrible. Bad food, even worse service. They claim to make everything in house but the desserts taste like they came out of the freezer and were microwaved. And for a place famous for wings, they were not good and they charge for dipping sauce!!! How cheap can you be to charge for blue cheese??!! Don't waste your time or money!!
Review Source:Was with a group of 20 or more friends and Aroogas handled us very quick.
The food was ok, the beer was fresh and the service was very good.
When there was a delay with my beer request, the waitress explained that the bartender was new....not sure if this was a line or not, but it only occurred once, so that's good.
Problems with my entree (asked for no tomatos, got lots of them) were handled quickly by the server.
Parking can get tight when they are busy.
Look forward to my next visit.
Went here on a Monday night to have dinner and drinks with a friend from out of town, but have been here numerous times in the past year or two.
Service at a table this time was great. We camped out talking for a while and were the girl's last table, but she was very nice and never acted annoyed. Came around frequently enough to refill my beer 3 times, so overall not bad.
The "skinny" wings (boneless, skinless, no breading) were on special so i ordered a dozen. They looked like tiny chicken nuggets, about 1/4 the size of a McDonald's McNugget. In their defense, they just gave me basketful, since a dozen would not have even covered the palm of my (small) hand.
I had the Mango Habanero (I think it was) and it was decent. After a few bites I thought it was too spicy, but that is my fault. I generally love spicy food, but the tiny little pieces of chicken weren't enough to cut the sauce. I love the option of having carrots in addition to or instead of celery, but yes, it costs more and overall the wings, when not on special, are pricey. My friend had a chicken breast sandwich with fries. The fries looked homemade, shoe-string style with the skins on. She loved them. The sandwich was a standard chicken breast sandwich, not huge, not tiny.
We moved to the bar and the bartender was pretty bitchy and seemed annoyed that we were there. There were hardly any people at the bar, maybe she was hoping to close up early.
In the past I have found the service to be hit or miss. The hostess staff all seem to be bratty 12 yr old girls, always on their cell phones and carrying on loud inappropriate conversations, often about other customers. We have had many really good waitresses, and one or two really awful ones.
They have good specials on drinks, like the little pitchers of various cocktails for $5, and also on their house beer, which my husband and I like the light flavor of.
The food overall is mediocre:
Terrible= a steamed shrimp with onions appetizer thing and the "balls and bats", some sort of mini stromboli type items
Middle of the road= the crab pretzel, which isn't very pretzel-y, more like a potato roll texture, but the crab part is good
Good=the regular wings, cooked extra crispy, with the thai sweet chili sauce or the bbq. Get any other sauce on the side, because most of the sauces are weird, just...weird).
I have had an occasional good sandwich, nothing memorable. Our food ALWAYS comes out really fast, that has never been an issue.
Keep in mind the menu is ENORMOUS, so no wonder it isn't all good. Probably about half is really good, a quarter is decent, and a quarter is awful, so who has time to try everything to find out what the really good stuff is?
I don't mind the gazillion tvs, but every single time but once, the trivia boxes were not working, and the staff always knows about it ("Excuse me, this one isn't working." "Yeah, none of them do." Then why the hell bring it to me in the first place?!?!?)
I like that the kitchen is open late, which is the reason we go here so much. Also it is so close to our house. We like the atmosphere with the tvs and the various rooms and the separate bar area, which is nice and roomy, plenty of seating. It seems cheerful and fun. Generally we get really good service; I always see managers walking around asking customers how everything is. I like that the bathroom is clean due to "hands free" soap, spigots and blow-dryers.
If you are looking for romantic or family oriented, then I would say this is not the spot. But for a late night bar-food type meal with inexpensive drink specials and quick service, or a place to watch sports, then it is, as the Yelp ratings say, "A-OK".
I wish to tell you a story about a boy and his fascination with milkshakes. Rather it's a story of addiction personality disorder and how when I get a craving for something I can't stop until I get it.
Arroogas (the extra r is for aggravation): It was Final Four Sunday. The place was not overly busy, but not overly empty. Say half capacity, which is suprising considering the sporting event...but then again Penn State wasn't playing foozball so what can you expect from a town that has no college basketball heritage. (you there, Tar Hole fan: you couldn't find Chapel Hill on a map with two hands and a flashlight so spare me the "I've been a fan since birth" speach. Some of us are from states with real basketball schools, so save your baby blue tears for people who went to HACC)
Wow, that was a serious digression (another personality disorder).
Order in....milkshake. Success?
11 out of 10 for presentation and style. I got a milkshake in (no exaggeration) a 5lb GOBLET! Renn Faire my ass, that is style! It should have come home with me...
2 out of 10 for quality. Take icecream, add water, mash together. I kid you not.
What else is there to say?
This review is long over due. Â
We've always noticed this place (and in particular how busy it always seem to be) as we pass through Harrisburg on trips between NY and VA. Â One one such trip, the timing was just right that we were passing through Harrisburg just in time to catch my precious Bills, on a Sunday afternoon. Â We decided to stop off for a little snack and football watching to break up the drive. Â A smartphone search as we were inbound to Harrisburg made Arooga's look like our best bet, and we knew it was right along our usual route.
The parking lot was full, but we were offered complimentary valet, which was a big surprise and very useful. Â Inside the place was packed, but the servers were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, even though we were looking for what was the least watched game of that Sunday (Bills vs. Bengals). Â This place has an insane amount of televisions (see their website), but of course the game we wanted was only on a couple of them. The servers found us an appropriate spot where we could see the TV, and provided us great service. Â They have an extensive list of chicken wing flavors, which was definitely the culinary highlight of the stop. Â
I wanted to call the manager after I left to tell him how awesome our experience was, but never got around to it. Â The place was very accommodating for us Out-of-Towners, the price was right, and the service was outstanding. Â I will be back this fall -- Go Bills!
When visiting friends out in camp hill, this place was the go-to sports bar in the area according to the locals. The food I had was ok, a hot beef hoagie/french dip. Not the best I've had, a bit dry even with the drippings...but I was so hungry it didn't really matter at the time. They had some good deals on domestic brews and mixed drinks for that night, so that was a plus if you are feeling the cheap beer. Definitely had a ridiculous amount of TVs, maybe the most I've seen for a place of that size which was cool since I am a big sports fan. Would like to go back for sure and try something else off the menu. I honestly think they have one of if not the largest menus as far as items I have ever seen. If it was cut in half, I think they could focus more on the quality of the dishes, and keep their signatures at the same time. Also really want to try the wings next time, since they seemed to have a great variety. Will return, but want to be more impressed with the food.
Review Source:Moved to Camp Hill Aroogas when we had too many food disappointments at the Carlisle Pike location. All was well till Friday night. Wings came out only lukewarm. The manager did come over and shortly returned with a fresh plate of very hot wings. If they had been like this the first time, all would have been well. For what they are charging for wings, they should be right every time.
I miss Kokomo's!
OK, here's my two cents on this place. Â I have been to all of the Aroogas locations, and I think this one is the best. Â Why? Â Probably because it closest to my home and the service here seems to be just slightly better than the others. Â Now don't go and get all excited, because even though you can polish a turd, its still a turd!
If you go there with the right expectations, you'll be fine. Â I go there for the GOOD tasting, terribly overpriced wings. Â That's it. Â I like the Louisiana hot garlic, cooked extra crispy. Â Make sure to tell the brain surgeon waitress you want them extra crispy, but NOT TWICE BAKED. Â Ever have wings baked in an oven.........nuff said. Â
You might look at their very extensive menu and be fooled into thinking something sounds good. Â STOP! Â They do one thing well, and that's wings. Â You can wipe your ass with the rest of the menu as far as I'm concerned. Â Be prepared to pay $1 a wing on most nights(including the blue cheese and celery). Â Even during happy hour when they are .49, they rail you for all the extras.
Now for the best part. Â Two weeks ago while I was there and seated at a both in the bar facing the kitchen, I witnessed a waitress coming out of the kitchen with a plate of food and eating french fries off of said plate. Â At first I just dismissed it as maybe it was her dinner. Â Then when I saw her do it a second time, I watched her walk over and serve it to a customer. Â OK, that's gross. Â Its wrong. Â And its probably the reason shes 250lbs. Â Being a short, chubby, dumb blonde waitress is no way to go thru life. Â Probably don't want to order the fries either!
Beer selection is decent and expensive unless your wowed by the miller lite and Coors lite specials! Â Does anyone drink that garbage anymore? Â And oh yeah, get a pitcher of beer, if you like to be ripped off. Â Didn't even know they made them that small. Â Should be called a personal size. Â Keep your expectations in check and this is an OK place to go to.
Amazing wing choice. I can't tell you how fun it is on 39 cent wing night (Wednesday) or $10.00 AYCE night (Monday) to try all the different flavors of wings. The place is great to catch sports because the walls are covered in TVs which is why MNF games and cheap wings bring out lots of people. They often have cheap beer specials with the wings too. I really like kangrooga flavored wings and almost everything. They are spicey but super flavorful. The wings favor the spicey side, but they are damn good. They have wings for the faint of heart (or pallet I suppose) and the few of them I have tried are just a good. They have a wing called Ghost Face Killa which you have to sign a waiver to eat. I simply dipped my finger in the sauce to try and I was in quite some pain. My one complaint is that carrots or celery and the dip with them coast $1 each. Meaning if you get celery and blue cheese with each order and you get 30 wings you'll add 6 dollar to your bill. They also try to push fries as a filler. That's annoying. The servers can be pretty easy on the eyes which is nice, but the service can be here and there if it's really busy (and that tends to be the case on cheap wing night). Still, good cheap wings and a plethora of choices in sauces make this a good place to go.
Review Source:They have dozens of different wing sauces but most are lousy to average They taste very processed. Buffalo bleu is the only one I really like and that one is quite good. They should make their own sauces, really, no? If you want really good wings to go Appalachian Brewing Co. instead. But Arooga's does have good deals on vodka drinks. They have their own vodka called Agoora (Arooga spelled backward). $7 for a small pitcher of any Agoora cocktail. Just one of those will have you feeling good. Oh, and there are lots of TVs here so it's a good place to watch a game or play trivia.
Review Source:We just walked out.
I came from far away (Washington, D.C.) to try a few of their 30 choices of wing sauces. Even though they completely allow it on other days, at 3:00 on a very slow Sunday, they wouldn't let us get but one flavor for 20 wings or 2 flavors for 50.
Really? You advertise all these different flavors of wings and only let me try one per order, except on Mondays or whatever? Then you want to charge me an extra dollar (per 10 wings) to cook them slightly longer? And you want to charge me another dollar to have a little extra sauce put on? No one else charges for these things; NO ONE.
Anyway, the one flavor per order is a ridiculous policy the manager wasn't willing to even work with us on, so we just left. Now looking at other reviews, I'm glad we did.
Eh, this place was pretty crappy. Â I have never been a fan of Aroogas, as the Bud Lite and 23243234 TVs all tuned to the same channel vibe is not really my thing but we met some friends here and one friend insisted that this is the best Aroogas location. Â I decided to go in with an open mind and hoped for semi-decent food and a nice time with friends. Â
It wasn't too busy but the service was slooooow. Â Soup was cold, fries were soggy and cold and my friend's wings had clearly spent a great amount of time sitting around. Â He let our server know that his wings were cold/old and someone just threw the whole basket in the microwave as they came back with his one chicken bone in the exact same place. Â Yum, old now microwaved wings!
I had ordered the chicken fajita wrap which was supposed to come with chicken, grilled peppers onions, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Â It was nothing but a stiff microwaved tortilla with some chicken and peppers in it. Â Oh, plus soggy cold fries. Â By this point the waitress was no where to be seen and quite frankly I was over it. Â
By the end of this, someone asked for the checks to be split which I knew was a terrible idea and my friend with the sad wings ended up with my beer. Â When we told her, she said "Oh. Â Sorry?". Â
No one was happy, even my Aroogas-loving friend and it took seriously forever to get out of there. Â So it's official, I still don't like Aroogas. If the sports bar on crack vibe is what you're looking for, I would go and just drink some cheap beer, watch a game and steer clear of the sub-par bar food and indifferent service.
If your a fan of onion rings, get theirs. Â Great place for drinks and the food is standard American fare. Â They offer a wide selection on the menu, so there's something for everyone. Â I've got a friend who only gets their seafood nachos, so try them out. Â They have a special section on their menu just for wings and I hear that they're really good. Â You'll like it ok, but don't expect to be wowed.
Review Source:Late night in the office, and it was nice Aroogas was open for a 945pm meal and snack.  This is a classic sports bar with classic food for this type of venue.  They are not trying to be renowed for it's 5 star chef, but rather lots of great dishes, TV's with every game on the planet and smiling  young staff who keep the excitement level high.
Review Source:I'm torn on this one. Â I'd like to give it more stars but it just doesn't live up to the hype. Â I had lunch here with a friend earlier this week. We arrived early so the place was still pretty empty. Â Service was acceptable. Â My biggest service complaint was that it took a very long time to get our food and tables that ordered long after we did were served before we were served.
My friend recommended the boneless wings. 10 "wings" for $8.59. Â I opted for two sauces so I received 5 in each sauce. Â The only problem is that they came to be table looking like the shriveled 5-pack of chicken nuggets my kids get at Wendy's in a bunch of sauce. Â I tried the Almost Everything sauce which was not nearly as good as I expected. Â The other sauce I picked was The Cilantro. Â The ingredients for The Cilantro had MAJOR potential. Â The actual sauce was a too sweet green concoction that had a slight tinge of Indian cilantro sauce flavor. Very underwhelming and I can imagine that most people would not like it. Â It was a major disappointment.
If you want similar boneless "wings", I suggest you get two packs of 5-piece nuggets from Wendy's down the road and ask for a few extra dipping sauces. Â Same difference but way less money.
I was also pissed at the up-charges on the wings that you usually get for free at other places. Â Extra crispy costs you an extra buck. Â All drums or all flats costs you an extra buck. Â Extra wet costs you .59. Â A total rip.
The ambiance would be great for a bunch of loud guys drinking beer and watching the game (on the huge number of tvs - our booth had it's own small flat screen). Â Maybe an option for a sports themed bachelor party or something like that. Â Would seem appropriate for beers after a softball game. Â Don't get me wrong, this isn't just a guys place but it seems as though they're trying to cater to them.
Overall . . . I'd skip it. Â There are much better and larger wings in the area for the price.
Worst. Service. Ever.
Went with a big group of friends (around 10 people) and waited 30 minutes before we found out that more than half of the tables in the back were empty and they still hadn't seated us. After some investigating and protesting on our part, we were finally seated - they refused to put together the tables so our group could sit together, so we ended up splitting up into two separate tables. Should have known it was not going to get any better from there.
We had a server from hell - very slow, never came to our table, irritable when we flagged her down or asked her for help on the menu, kept calling all the guys (but only the guys) at our table 'baby' and 'honey'. After 30 minutes of waiting we finally got our orders in. At this point we had already been there for an hour with no food in sight. Â
30 more excruciatingly hungry minutes and we finally received our orders. All of us had ordered a variety of wings, and I am telling you now, if you do ever have the misfortune of setting foot in this place, do not order any wing-sauce that sounds even remotely exotic. The standard BBQ or honey mustard sauces tasted fine, but the cilantro-concoction was just plain old nasty. All of the wings were dry, overcooked, and had almost no meat. The guys at the table were hungry and unsatisfied after the meal, but none of us complained for various reasons. First, our sever never came to our table (she would tell us to 'hold on honey' when we flagged her down while she stood at a different table and chatted with her group of friends). Second, we were already starving at this point and wanted to eat whatever we had; and third, the service was so ridiculously slow that complaining wasn't even worth it. Nobody wanted to wait another half hour to get their food exchanged - and frankly, since everybody's wings were overcooked and brittle, we didn't expect complaints would change anything.
In the end we just wanted to eat and bounce... but it took the server another 45 minutes to take care of our checks. When one of the members at our table gently nudged our server and asked for the check since we were trying to get to a movie, the server answered with a 'I'll take care of it for you right now, hun' and never came back for 20+ minutes.
Wings only made for a suprisingly unsatisfying meal. We also missed our movie.
The real kicker? Our server from hell was employee of the month. Now that is one restaurant I will never go back to - one million different combinations of sauces nonwithstanding.
If you enjoy being able to walk from the table to the bathroom and not miss any of the game, then this place is for you. The food is a bit expensive but you are mostly paying for the 50+ flat screen TV's that barrage your eyeballs and sensory synapses.
It's great if you want to hang out with the guys watch a game and drink beer but not so much if you are looking to take your date to have a nice conversation. Â For an appetizer try the onion rings with some ranch dressing instead of their Arooga sauce. Any of their Wings, Pizzas or Stromboli, and top it off with their Dessert Pizza.
Went here for the first time with a friend on a very busy Saturday night. Â It took a while for the hostess to realize we needed to be sat but once we were, it was all smooth sailing from there. Â We had a wonderful server who didn't hover but came through just when we needed her. Â The food was excellent. Â I had the Tiger wings which were phenomenal; just the same as Kokomos if not better. Â The seafood nachos were out of sight. Â I'm looking forward to my next trip to Harrisburg so I can visit Arooga's again.
