Club Med can be a little hard to find if you have no idea where you're going. Â I was told "it's over behind the Harrisburg Mall" and forced to find it on my own. Â Eventually, I did, but I chalk that up to my Carthaginian Explorer's sense of direction. Â If you have a Persian sense of direction *ahem* and accidently direct people to the pentagon, you'd never find it.
Once you know where you're going, you begin to figure out how to get those covetted front parking spots, that seem to be a million miles closer to the door than the rest of the lot. Â Close parking is both an artform and a science, and at Club Med, it's crucial, because it seems like during the winter months, the wind blows just a little bit stronger on the East side of South Harrisburg. Â I also think it happens to swell up in the driveway, in the only place that the gym doesn't shelter from the wind.
Club Med has a little over 20 pool tables. Â They have a pretty red one and an even prettier blue one. Â There is a back room that is non-smoking. Â However, I've never been in there, because let's face it, I can't put out my cigarette long enough to walk back there.
The juke box is relatively well stocked, and if it's slow, and you go there often enough, the owner will hook you up with some change to put in and play a few jams. Â On Friday and Saturday nights however, it's usually stocked an hour ahead with 50 cent songs played by middle school and high school kids who go there so they can smoke.
The whole place isn't packed with kids, but they definitely make up a substantial proportion of the clientelle. Â Other major groups include the skeezy old men who gamble on billiards and Asians who, as if they hadn't impressed us enough with their mathematical and breakdancing abilities, had to go and be amazing at pool too.
The highlight of Club Med is definitely the owner, and his staff, who I believe are all family. Â They are wonderful people, and they will always go out of their way to make sure you're having a good time in their establishment.
Club Med also has a small snack bar which includes sodas, hot dogs, (i believe) nachos, and CANDY! Â Airheads and Root beer make any game of 8-ball complete!
