Bagger Dave's Burger Tavern

My wife and I waited to visit to be sure they had gotten all the kinks worked out . We were seated at once but did wait to be greeted at our table, They were not terribly busy when we got there but filled up quickly as it was Saturday around lunch time. The waitress explained the " we make our own soda thing" aka the old Steak and Shake way and we had no problem ordering a Root Beer for me and a Ginger Ale for the wife. She liked hers but mine was a little to much soda water and not enough root beer. On a side note as we were finishing were heard our waitress say they do not have ICE TEA ! We could not verify that but the people at that table were obviously shocked.

I had looked at reviews for the locations in Michigan and had seen some very poor reviews so I was hoping for a different result. We both ordered burgers since we had not had one for a couple of months. She had the sweet potato chips and I had fries. My burger was very bland , which seems to be a common complaint. Even with bacon ( way overcooked/pre-cooked) and toppings it left a lot to be desired. We both were also disappointed in the lack of CHEESE on our cheese burgers. Her chips were also fairly boring and lacked real flavor and my fries, advertised as fresh cut, probably fresh FROZEN cut.

All in all it was not great, better than McDonald's but not anywhere close to a Five Guys just down the road.It is a shame , some simple tweaks and they could be great but it seems they want to appeal to the lowest common client, the ones with no taste.

Hamburgers were creative and tasty.

Both the french fries and sweet potato chips were enjoyable -  simple and not greasy.

They only serve customs sodas are inconsistent. I tried a number of them, none were balanced, ranged from lackluster to overpowering.

In the summer it could be a nice spot - as the have garage doors which open to the outside.

I really mean it-- I'm a FAN!

I almost didn't attend Bagger Dave's, after hearing that the service was known to be poor. Then, one of my fellow foodie friends (FFFF... fellow foodie friends forever?) assured me that the food was well worth it. And, boy, was he right!

First, you should know, they do not carry Coke or Pepsi products. I'm definitely a Coke girl, so I'm always disappointed in Pepsi carriers. But a restaurant that carries neither is met with... hesistance. No worries here though, their specialty sodas are yummy! This former brand loyalist approves of Bagger Dave's cola.

Additionally, Bagger Dave's offers a pretty decent craft beer list, which was quite a surprise.

The menu has a lot to offer, and it all sounds delicious. However, I was immediately taken by the build-your-own option. Turkey burger, beef burger, black bean burger, seasame seed bun, white bun, wheat bun, cheeses and sauces galore, two kinds of lettuce, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, guacamole. So. Many. Options. You can even get french fries right on your burger. It was a ton of fun, and my creation was DELICIOUS (for which I actually only get minimal credit-- Dave's can make a burger)! You can also build your own loaded fries, which comes with many options. Or you can do what I did, and order those babies plain, for a less messy dipping experience in Bagger Dave's own ketchup!

The service was very slow, but it wasn't "bad" service; the hostess seemed less than thrilled to be alive, but the waitress was friendly and got our orders right with no problems at all. Plus, I can temporarily excuse the mollasses-pace, because I think slowness is to be expected of a fairly new establishment.

Now that I'm stepping down from my Bagger Dave's soapbox... go, go, go! Build the burger of your dreams!
