We took a chance on this place, a break from our regular place on Western, to see if a smaller place with easier parking would work for our regular family meet-ups. What a win! Every dish was excellent! Red curry and masaman curry, both great. Rama chicken and cashew chicken, ditto. Cucumber salad, just right. Super easy parking, super friendly service, super tasty food. We WILL be back!
Review Source:This Thai restaurant was fairly decent. Â We ordered massaman curry, pad see ew, papaya salad, shrimp tom yum soup, and thai iced coffee. Â My review may be biased because I have been to Thailand countless times and have tasted authentic Thai cuisine. Â The massaman was a bit lacking in flavor and spice. Â The pad see ew was on the sweet side. Â The papaya salad was almost tasteless. Â The shrimp tom yum was watery but still okay. Â All in all, the food is similar to what you would find at any other average Thai restaurant in Chicago. Â
What I considered special about this place was the service. Â Our server was very nice and attentive.
I'll probably give this place another try later on, but probably not in the near future.
I have had Thai food from around the world (From Australia to Spain to the US....Unfortunately not Thailand yet) and honestly hands down one of the best Thai places EVER. Definitely the best in Chicago.
There is not one bad thing about this restaurant. Â To the management, the service, and the fresh Thai food itself, AMAZING!
The only thing I've been waiting to try is the mango sticky rice dessert, but since Thai mangos are not fresh in season right now, they are holding off until they are able to get the freshest mangos possible! Can't wait for that!!!
They deliver too ;-)
We got takeout from here w/some friends that live close to this place. Â We liked it so much that we will go back ourselves for takeout. Â
Warning- I am not one of the super discerning and super critical Thai restaurant people. Â If you are, just skip my review.
So I got Pad See Ewe w/tofu which I really liked. Â I liked whatever green they put in it. Â I liked the portion size, the flavor, the tofu wasn't too plain. Â
My husband got Combination Fried Rice and it was flavorful with lots of meat that was good quality. Â It seemed to be chicken, beef, and pork (no shrimp), just fyi. Â We both liked the portion size and flavor. Â
Also their site is <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bangkokwokthai.com%2F&s=66a1b38cf83c1d92f6db0e4574806c36b417fd9a64836da425d95166a4afc3f8" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.bangkokwoktha…</a>
I suggested that yelp add it. Â
When you view their menu online it goes to a grubhub page but you do see the menu. Â I'm probably the 1 person left in the world that has never used grubhub. Â So anyway the restaurant ph# is the one that ends in 0000 on their main website page and here on yelp, so we called that to order since we were doing pickup ourselves, therefore not using grubhub.
We also really liked that they use plastic takeout containers for the entrees, instead of styrofoam. Â (I try not to get hot food and certainly not hot liquids in styrofoam as I feel it can leach some chemicals from the styrofoam into the food, and that styrofoam is only safe for cold food storage.) Â Only a friend's appetizer was in styrofoam, so it seems if you get something small they may put it in styrofoam. Â (The bottom of the plastic entree container is a #5 plastic which you can recycle at Whole Foods. Â The top is #6 which cannot be recycled to my knowledge.)
Wow! Bangkok Wok far exceeded my expectations.
I love Thai food and have tried many different restaurants. but this place has easily become my favorite Thai restaurant by far.
I have sampled their Moo Ping spicy pork satay, Bangkok noodles, crab fried rice, and pad prik. All were delicious. The ingredients are fresh, the meats tender and everything is seasoned just right. and I must say that their pad prik is the most delicious one I have ever had. Â
There is nothing about this restaurant that I did not enjoy. Portions are big and the service is great. I definitely recommend it.
Very yummy! Delivery arrived in les time than estimated and everything was hot!
The Wonton soup was steaming hot which was exactly what I needed. Both the crab rangoons and the pit stickers hit the spot. I asked them to make the pot stickers crispy and they did. The Pad Se Ew was done well.
I will definitely order front here again!
I had been eyeing Bangkok Wok for a long time, but for some reason, despite living in the neighborhood, I never stopped in to test out their dishes. I'm not sure why. For Thai, I usually drive out to Thong Thai (right across the street from the Leaning Tower of Niles), so perhaps I was afraid of having a less than authentic experience. I am glad I made the decision to test out Bangkok Wok. My wife and I stopped in one day to eat and the food was amazing! I had beef Pad Thai and my wife had the Beef Salad. It was the best Thai two foodies have ever eaten. We have been back 3 times this week. Today I had the Suki Yaki and it was as awesome as the Pad Thai. The portions are not as plentiful as you'll find at Thong Thai, but they are actually perfectly sized. You may not have leftovers, but you will be full leaving. And for the flavorful taste, you can not expect anything better. Not to mention, it's very affordable at $7.95 for an entre.
An entire review can be posted just about the service. A great dining experience matters to me when I dine out, and in addition to the interesting and artsy decor, both servers we have had there this week were outstanding. They were so friendly, walking us through suggestions, never rushing us, and keeping our water glasses from becoming half-empty.
This is our new favorite restaurant and I'm sure they will be seeing much more of me and my wife. Oh, and if you like sticky rice, get their Mango Sticky Rice!
Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 pm and there was two other tables there besides us so kinda empty on a weekend in my opinion but maybe it gets most of it's traffic during weekday lunch. We sat by the window which was nice and cozy. Â Our server was attentive and came up right away and so we began our ordering. We got crab ragoons, pot stickers and egg rolls for appetizers and all were just a okay. Nothing stood out, nothing had that extra flavor I was hoping for, all just mediocre. Next came the entrees, I had the pad thai with tofu and it came out beautiful and the portion was extremely generous in size, my hubby got a chicken dish and my grandpa got a bbq pork fried rice which was huge and he seemed to really enjoy it. Plus, he took more than half of it to go after all the appetizers we had. My overall feel of the place is that it was okay, nothing spectacular but nothing horrible either. The server did over charge us $2.00 from the "new" menu which wasn't the one that we were given but after I mentioned it she took it off, so no biggie.
Overall, am I dying to return? Absolutely not. If i'm in the area, possibly. Opart Thai in Chicago still has my heart and pad thai soul.
I've been here three times and every time I've gotten the Masaman Curry. Â It's really satisfying--a very smooth and creamy curry. Â The jackfruit smoothies are good too--delicious and refreshing. Â The tom yum soup was OK, although I've had better. Â The service is friendly and the decor is fine. Â The location isn't ideal but it's definitely worth the trip.
Review Source:I don't really understand all of the outstanding ratings this restaurant is receiving. It is adequate but after eating here 3 or 4 times, nothing I have ordered has been more than "ok".
I do not find the portions to be generous, certainly not when compared to other Thai places in the area.
The last time I ordered from here (to go), I ordered cucumber salad. I order this from every Thai restaurant I visit. I was very disappointed to receive a styrofoam box of raw, undressed cucumber chunks. Just plain cucumber. It was not until the next day, when I looked in the baggie containing the cutlery, that I found the dressing that was meant to be ON the cucumbers. It was in a seperate plastic cup!
Too bad that I had already eaten them with some carrots and tomatos, dressed in ranch. I figured they had made a mistake when packaging it the night before, and just used them as they were.
The papaya salad, on the other hand, was quite soupy!
I also ordered a noodle/beef dish. Both of which were cooked poorly. The very few pieces of beef were overcooked and tough. The noodles were a bit too soft.
One thing they do really well is cook brocolli! That might not seem like a big deal, but it has been very pleasing every time I have eaten their food. It is still a lovely, bright green but it is not hard and undercooked. Can brocolli be al dente?
MY THAI! For sure! Love this place! And it's only a five minute drive!
I know I like a place when I'm still craving it the next morning! Smoothies were a great start, as well as the Thai chicken wings, DELICIOUS! Papaya salad was also a recommendation that was perfect! Slightly spicy, crunchy and all around refreshing!
Next up, the pad Thai with chicken was great! Not too oily with just the right amount of everything! We also had the pineapple fried rice with tofu was so amazing!
The bottle of wine from next door paired perfectly too!
I wasn't joking, I went the next morning to get me some fries rice! With crab this time, and some seriousness right there! Not many place with crab fried rice! And the iced tea with lemon hit the spot!
Duncan S. hit the nail on the head with this one. Â "Average neighborhood Thai place."
Brightly colored walls of mostly off-primary colors, cute cafe like interior with few Asian inspired art pieces. Â An intricately carved wood piece adorns one wall and a modern styled picture of Buddha on another. Â A few small chalk board pieces with random messages mentioning their different offerings or smoothie flavors. Â What was most cool; one of the waitresses wore a t-shirt reminiscent of the RUN DMC t-shirt but with the initials of Bangkok Wok. Â Great way to represent the brand.
Stopped in for the lunch special. Â $6.50 for soup or salad, entree and an egg roll or crab Rangoon. Â Salad is a small square plate of few pieces of cucumber, thinly Julienned carrot and red onions in a sweet soy or clear colored marinade. Â Pretty good and light. Â Soup of the other day was chicken Tom yum. Â Two of us, so we got one of each with egg rolls and split an order of crab Rangoon ( 6 pieces $5 dollars). Â A good selection of entrees offered on the lunch menu. Â I got noodles and my buddy got beef in red curry. Â All of the food was just okay, nothing stood out. Â Crab Rangoon was the same, more savory than sweet but served with a sweet sauce in case you need it. Â Had some left overs to go. Â Days later, it wasn't as awesome as on the first day.
If in the area during a weekday lunch hour, I would certainly pass up a trip through McDonald's drive thru for their better than average lunch menu offerings. Â It's only $6.50, so why not!.
We stopped in after a double- header at the movies. We were both quite hungry and decided to try their lunch special. As it was our first visit, we opted for the tried and true Pad Thai. I had mine with chicken and Christopher opted for beef. Both were quite nice and well flavored. The portions were large. I brought home my leftovers for mom. She really loved the Pad Thai,
The lunch special comes with the soup of the day and you get a choice of appetizers. The soup was Tom Yum. I love it, and Christopher who had never had it before enjoyed it as well. The appetizers were good, but not great.
The restaurant is clean and cheerful looking. Having a parking lot is a big plus. We will be back again to try other options. Now I want papaya salad. Geesh.
Bagkok Wok is your average neighborhood Thai place. The interior is more cafe style than restaurant; clean, bright colors, wooden tables and interesting black and white photos. Background music strangely pop muzac.
Crowd on a Wednesday night very local, older couples and a Thai family.
For appetizer we had the fish cakes which were really good; resisting the temptation to start with Mid-Wests own crab Rangoon, thankfully not available in Thailand. For mains; Pad Kee Mao that was just OK nice enough flavor, not enough spice. Along with Basil Pork, this dish was just average, nice chili level and the steamed pork could have been any other meat or even tofu. I like my kaprow with fried pork or if pushed ground pork. Â For dessert we went with the sticky rice with mango, rice not sticky enough and at times a little savory. Overall, the food not overly special.
Service average. BYOB a real plus.
Came here with my husband and friends for dinner and the food was amazing! Â My husband is a picky eater and to my surprise, he enjoyed all of the entrees we ordered. Â We ordered the papaya salad (super delish...could've been spicier though), pad thai, pad see ew, and BBQ fried rice...all were great. Â I have to say I'm a fan of this new restaurant. Â Good thing for us, we only live 5 minutes away! Â
Thank you Bangkok Wok...we found our new favorite Thai place! Â :)
Can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu. Â Until next time......
Bingo. Â A definite and immediate Thumbs Up from this reviewer who is a fussy and persnickety foodie. Â Even bad Thai food can be decent (almost) but Bangkok Wok gets my top rating for food, variety, service, ambiance and value. Â This West Ridge (West Rogers Park to some) venue is high on my list of local dining options. Â As the rating says "Woohoo! As good as it gets!"
Review Source:great food!!
for the appetizer, we got egg rolls and dumplings. First off, its nice to see a place offer CHICKEN dumplings and not PORK! the dumplings were good. The presentation of the appetizers were good too.
I had the pad thai rice with chicken. absolutely amazing. the chicken was SO flavorful! the rice wasn't overly greasy. i didn't fall asleep at the wheel when i was driving home which is good.
the service was impeccable. the food was on time. appetizer was served BEFORE the entree..unlike most restaurants I've been to that serve it after the entree (wtf?!) the staff was really nice, very attentive.
must go! great food. great service. there's enough parking in the lot.
i will definitely be visiting this place often.
Authentic Thai food without having to go all the way to uptown. Â When I say authentic, I mean spicy-get-the-breath-mints-ready papaya salad and entrees big enough to fill you up AND to take home for lunch the next day! Â The staff treats you like a guest in their home, greeting you as you enter the door. Â The wood panel they have on their wall is so beautiful I'm thinking of getting one for my house. Â The only possible downfall, that is no fault of their own, is the semi-small parking lot they have to share with the other stores. Â With this level of deliciousness, those spots are going to be taken up immediately by patrons coming to find sheer happiness in a bowl of panang curry.
Review Source:My family and I just finished eating lunch here for the first time & we totally enjoyed it!  We had the luncheon specials and were very pleased with what we ate  ie. chicken satay, spring rolls, crab rangoon, Tom Yum soup, Beef & vegetables, Pad Thai & Tofu with mixed vegetables.  Everything was nicely prepared and presented, the food tasted excellent and the service was particularly friendly & very efficient. We are delighted Bangkok Wok is in the neighborhood and we look forward to eating there again soon!

I love this new addition to neighborhood. Â Great open space, affordable lunch menu, BYOB (with quick stop next door) and parking lot - what more can you ask for!
I went to the grand opening of the restaurant and the staff executed very smoothly. Â You wouldn't have guessed it was the 1st day as the staff was timely, efficient, and polite. Â Water was always full, ordering was after a good amount of time, and food came out promptly. Â Now, let's get into the important stuff, which is the food.
I personally never crave Thai food, and I've been to Thailand (hubby's been twice) so we have an idea of authenticity. Â We started with crab ragoon, cute little deep fried pockets of crab and cream cheese. Â The sweet and sour was a good compliment and ask for the house hot sauce, to add a little bit a spice. Â Also, for an appetizer we got the papapya salad which was very flavorful. Â I don't like things especially spicy, so we asked for mild with hot peppers on the side (for hubs). Â We both loved the flavors and the fact we could customize it on our own. Â
For the entrée - I got the beef pad se ew - delish!  Perfect amount of noodle, egg, beef and broccoli and seasoned very well.  Sometimes I think pad se ew's are on the oily side, but this was great.  I ate the entire thing!  Hubby got the basil chicken which was grounded, I feel this is the best way to eat this dish.  Ground meat can soak up more flavor on the surface area than whole pieces of chicken. Â
Overall, I love this new place and would come again. Â Give it a try!
