Stayed the night since we were seeing the Fab Four at the fair. Â Didn't realize we would be sharing the hotel with the chess federation competition. Â The bar was packed with very smart people. Â The waitress was very quick and friendly despite the crowd. Â Not a bad place for a night cap.
Review Source:As long as you come here to drink and not eat, you'll be fine. Â The food is really disgusting, but the atmosphere for a hotel lounge is pretty good. as long as its a weeknight. Â This is a business hotel, so there is obviously not going to be a great weekend scene. Â The service is hit or miss. Â My co-worker ordered a dirty martini and they forgot the dirty part of it, so they gave him a glass of olive juice! Â Pretty comical.
Review Source:Big Screen TVs, comfy chairs, and stiff drinks; a very good mix for a hotel bar.
As part of the ambiance, the lighting is taken down a notch, and if there is football going on, it's on the TVs.  I was staying at the Hyatt, and this bar is located at the bottom.  I figured it was a nice place to unwind a little bit, after a long day's hard work. They have nice décor with comfy chairs, soft and relaxing, great for conversations or just to help partake in the game.  The BCS game was on, so it was packed, and it was definitely a party atmosphere.
The food and drinks are good. Â The drinks more than the food, but that shouldn't take you away from it either. Â Drinks are easy to make, the food are smaller versions of what you find at the restaurant here. Â I had the Mac and Cheese with truffle. Â I thought it was good, not amazing, but one thing which really set this place apart in terms of this treat, was the VERY generous amounts of truffle, huge slices of it. Â That was a true delight, but like I said, it wasn't amazing, just somewhere between good and great.
Okay, I spend a lot of time traveling, and have seen a great deal of bars, some with amazing food, some very good drinks, and some with both. Â I think here, the drinks win, and the food comes in a close second, but in a good way.
What am I doing here drinking at a hotel bar? No, I wasn't trying to drum up extra business at night. Haha.
Since we were basically stuck at the Hyatt for our residential, the other students and I hung out at Bar 8 after our "class" and our group meeting ended. They close up shop pretty early although by the end of our stay, we had convinced them to stay open until around 1:00 a.m. or so, which we thought was impressive.
The bartenders here are very nice and very efficient. I handed the man my Bambi-printed credit card and he didn't even bat an eyelash. It makes it convenient since I just have to say, "Put this on the Bambi card" instead of giving him my name every time.
The mojito was very minty (maybe too minty since I started drinking mint bits) and the lemon drop was strong. Overall, I enjoyed all of the drinks I had here (not that I can, apparently, remember everything I had here) and the amount we collectively consumed probably propelled Bar 8's revenue well into the positive for the rest of the year. Prices are about average compared to other mixed drinks and whatnot in OC. The house chardonnay was excellent (and came in a huge glass, which I loved).
What a seriously non-happening lounge especially one located in a hotel. It's a Saturday night and there's no one in there. Two huge flat screen TVs showing the football game plays, but there is no one there to watch.
We all got 2 rounds of drinks each (3 people) and the tab came to a little under $40. It's not too bad. They provide you with a plate of mixed munchies -- nuts, sesame sticks, pretzels, that kind of thing.
Not a place I'd choose to come to if not for friends staying here. Pretty dismal place to hang out and have a drink at since there is no atmosphere whatsoever.
