I've been here twice: once to meet up with some friends after they ran a roadrace Downcity and another time for a networking event. Satisfied both times; but nothing stood out. I have been wanting to go on Burger Tuesday & will make that happen soon. Mixed drinks can be pricey & the quesadilla they were passing around at the networking event was good.
Review Source:I was out last friday in providence for the free summer concert series and met some friends and as we're walking they start chanting Louie! Louie! and I ask what is that? and then I got to experience the magic for myself. We sat at a table in one of the big open windows so we could enjoy the night air and yet still had the inside ambience. I split the Spinach Dip with my friend and it was worth it! I almost wish I had gotten it alone it was that good I could have eaten the whole thing. My friend got a Effen Good which turned out to be not that good and we sent it back, I got a Peach Lightning and I would gladly get another one. Great atmosphere and cool place. Only down side was the small bathroom and had to wait in line which isn't that big a deal considering it was a busy friday night.
Review Source:I definitely have mixed feelings. I loved the decor and atmosphere, lots of young professionals, but the food and drinks were definitely over priced. I had a specialty martini that was $12 and didn't even get a buzz... Not ok.
The bartenders were kind of rude as well, I don't want to feel judged by ordering a drink and one of the girls definitely made me feel uncomfortable.
Nonetheless, I will probably come back. I had a great time with my friends and it was overall and ok experience.
I've gone here three times since it opened, and it's become one of those places you kind of forget.
Their food is meh, a little pricey, but for the area, its understandable. Have mostly had appetizers here, so can't rate too much on their food.
Drinks are average tasting, average prices for the area.
Service is all over the place. Had great service one time; another time horrible service.
I'll probably come back here at some point in time, but there are so many other comparable places with a better atmosphere and food.
I had to read the guidelines before writing this review, that's how offended I was by my experience at Bar Louie (Providence).
Went last night (Thursday) and it was easy to find a seat, not a hectic night at all for the bartender. My friend and I ordered a couple of local brews and the bartender said we needed a card to start a tab and seemed angry about it because we weren't ordering food. We said we would pay cash as we went (turned out to be a good decision). Handed her $20 got back $5 in change.
Both beers are brewed within the state so that seemed high. Not to mention she got the order wrong; mine ended up being a dark import. I drew her attention to it and she returned with the right beer. I asked her the price of the beers because they still seem high in price. She said "they're both $6.25" which seemed high to me, but that aside, she still shorted us in the change. She couldn't have been any (keeping in the review guidelines) "snippier" towards us. She slapped down 50 cents and said "HERE! Happy Now?!"
Keep in mind, there wasn't anyone else calling for her attention. There were no other drinks being served during this transaction.
We left 90% of our beer and walked out, that's how offended we were. The feeling is we would have been screwed on the tab if we left a card. Just rounding up prices and expecting customers not to pay attention.
Pros: Nice atmosphere. Clean establishment with a contemporary slightly upscale feel.
Cons: Service, price, and the apparent lack of supervision.
Not sure if it was a slow night because it was a Thursday, or because word is getting out about how the customers are treated.
Went there for the $1 Burger Tuesday. Â The Beef burger was juicy, moist and tasty. Â It comes with lettuce and a toasted bun. Â Â Other toppings range from 25-75 cents (cheese, onions, tomato, sauces, etc0. Â Â While we were there, several appettizers were 1/2 off, so we had a flatbread and a quesadilla. Â Â Overall the food was good, I would go back.
Some of the drinks are pricey, but if you are on a budget get a cheap beer and savour a good burger for a buck !!
Being around for only a year or so now, Bar Louie has quite the following. The following of the after-dinner drinks from Union Station and LuxeBurger, and the pre-gamers for RiRa; especially on the weekend when RiRa has live bands playing. They do get quite the crowd during WaterFire weekends as well...the food is good, and so are the drinks, just be careful when opening a tab and ordering drinks. You'll find they're a little more expensive than you may have thought.
It's a good place for dinner and drinks before going out, or if you're just in the mood to hang out with friends over drinks downtown, rather than going out and dancing or listening to live music.
Very fun place right close to providence place and next to Capital Grille. Â We visited twice in a four day weekend. Â Very friendly wait staff (Trish!) - fun selection of drinks and yes - you can order food up until close time! Â A must visit if you are staying at the Marriott Courtyard.
Try the whiskey cake for dessert!
Drinks, started with a Capitan and diet, it was very sweet.... Confused and decided to change to longtrail IPA which came in a nice tall glass... Great beer. Ordered wings (bone in) Asian , pot stickers, and Quesada's. Wings came out boneless but were great, pot stickers were OK, and Quesada was excellent. Â We then ordered dinner. Drunken Fish and Chips and other meals. The Fish was dropped off and I said, where's my fish? There was 3 tiny breaded shavings of fish with 70% more batter than fish that a starving homeless person eating would consider and ridiculously small portion. I've had chicken fingers that would make this fish flavored breading look tiny. I took one bite, and did not eat the dry minuscule amount. Showed the waitress that there was no fish and that I had no time to reorder and she still put it on the bill and just smiled when I showed her how admit I was about there being absolutely no fish on the $13.50 order of fish... Â I have mixed results on the food and zero acknowledgment by the wait staff gives them a 1 - 2 stars at best. My cousin ordered the fish too but ate a few more bites just because he was very hungry. Â Of the four dinners, two were empty, one was touched and mine had a bite out of it. Â All four on the bill.... $150 + tip later and two of us were hungry. Now I know why they are drunken Fish And Chips, You'd have to be completely drunk to think that was an order of fish and chips... :)
Review Source:By far the WORST place to go EVER! Â I dine out a lot and NEVER had such a ridiculous experience! Â BEWARE!
We came in with a group of 6 around 6 and told the hostess that we would be expecting a few more to join us for drinks after they were out of work. Â We made sure we knew that we were planning on having dinner, a few apps, and have celebratory cocktails. Â She sounded very enthused - there wasn't much action going on in here and we were it!
So our server, Charlene, who goes by "Char" informed of us of how wonderful she was, I open stores for corporate, blah, blah, blah. Â Not only do I not care that you are a corporate "opener" - but your abundant pride is borderline narcissistic.
Anyway... we order some drinks. Â A bit overpriced for some pureed fruit libations - so cutting edge that they know how to use a blender. Â The food was decent - I actually really enjoyed the light bites and the tapas style sharing we had going on.
Now for the annoyance... this "opener" of a server "Char" - what a nightmare! Â After our appetizers were served.... she returned to the table to ask us if we were ready for the check. Â Um.... obviously not. Â We all still appetizers in front of us and had yet to order dinner... never mind that we were planning on enjoying the lounge to celebrate a friend's promotion.
10 more minutes go by.... *eerie music plays* Â "Char" returns... "Hey guys! Â Are you ready to wrap it up? Â Can I bring you the check?"
NO!! Â You can NOT bring us the check! Â We still haven't been asked if we'd like to oder our meals yet.... and can we please get another round of drinks??
I considered that they might need the table for another party.... but alas, there was not a lot of people in here - and they definitely weren't spending as much money as we were!
So finally she asks us if we would like to place a dinner order while waiting for our friends to join us. Â We do. Â We wait. Â It comes. Â Hooray. Â The food was alright, nothing spectacular. Â The apps would be better served as main courses in my opinion - they were the same size and price - and had much more of a presentation.
10 more minutes go by.... Â you guessed it! Â "Char" is back! Â ...and guess what she wants to know? Â "Are you guys ready for the check?"
I wanted to scream. Â Does "Char" not speak English? Â We all had half a sandwich in our mouths and full drinks.. does it look like we are ready for the check?
So we asked her if this was the end of her shift and perhaps she needed us to close out our tabs. Â If so, we would have, and asked for another server - "No" she said, "I'm just trying to make sure you guys know I'm still here" Â - Â As if we could forget. Â -_-
So another 10 more minutes go by and we were confirming that 3 more guests would be joining us at the bar for drinks to celebrate our friends big promotion! Â At this point, we had all had maybe 2 drinks... because our "opener" was SOOO attentive. Â This time, our dear friend "Char" walked by the table and plopped down the check without a word. Â How rude! Â We decided... let's pay up and we'll go next door where there are civilized people!
So you guessed it, her tip wasn't going to be anything special - she didn't deserve it. Â So after we split the bill into partial cash first and the rest on 3 cards, we were ready to go.... but "Char" decided she was going to lay out all 3 of the credit card receipts and remark on what she was left for a tip. Â
Char: Â "That's all you guys are leaving me? Â That's real great!"
Our table: Â "Is she serious right now?"
Char: Â "Whatever."
Naturally, we decided to seek out the manager, Joshua, and explain to him what was going on. Â We saw "Char" talking to him over in the corner throwing her hands in the air like a crazy person. Â He then proceeds to our table to hear what is going on. Â We explain to him and he seems very nice and apologetic. Â Then he comes to her defense "She's my star server!" Â He bought us a round of drinks and free appetizer coupons - because I'm DYING to go back.
"Char" was now in street clothes and sitting at a table across the restaurant with the manager and shooting us dirty looks. Â We decided to leave. Â As we stopped outside, the swirly door begins to move and out comes "Char" with her hand braced against her chest.
"This is me!" she exclaims.
She then begins to argue with us telling us that she is an excellent server and this is her career! Â In the midst of her argument, she tells us that we were very professional to her manager and we only gave good feedback that would help her to become a better server in the future. Â She then literally wipes the drool from her mouth and tells us all about how she is a successful 39 year old and "I only had one drink" - are you kidding me?! Â This woman was now drunk! Â She continued to argue with us and my friends and I tried avoiding her (pretending to text, etc.). Â She continued ranting in a drunken stupor until we walked away in search of a better place.
Will NEVER go back!
BEWARE!
One of the worst bar restaurants I've never been to!!!!
The waitress was rude! She was kicking us out of our table because she was leaving and she knew that we were waiting for other people to join us. When she came for the check she looked at all of our checks and commented on the tip we gave her, I told her that 10% with more than enough for her! He asked to speak to the manager and he came over and said that she was his best waitress!!!! Wow!!
When leaving she proceeded to follow us and stop us out side the restaurant, we notice at that point she was drunk, That was our experience at bar Louie's in Providence Rhode Island! Â Beware!!!
Came here for $1 Burger Night last week and was overall disappointed with my experience. So here are my 2 cents on the matter.
The story begins with a very empty dinning area, so we sit right down. After we were seated no waitress came over for roughly 10 minutes. We were getting ready to leave when someone at another table went to get the waitress since they hadn't been served either. The waitress finally came over and never apologized and seemed more annoyed that she had to take our order.
I got the Turkey Burger, which was actually really good. Although it was $1 Burger Night that only includes the burger no toppings and no sides so my burger came out to be roughly $3.50 with no fries which is still a great price. We also got the Spinach and Artichoke dip which was microwaved at its peak of freshness and the bowl it came in was only 1/2 full. I think they left the chips out a month too long since they tasted super stale.
At the end of the day the service was terrible but the burger was great. If it wasn't for the majority of the experience being awful the rating would have been higher. That is a very Yogi Berra type line. Try it if you want but there are so many other great restaurants in the area you might want to try.
In Sub-Rural delight, Foxboro, I never thought I'd encounter a "Boston Bar". Â Despite the no-reservation policy, we had no trouble getting a table for four Friday night at 7:00pm (by 8pm there would have been a wait). Â Our waitress was very personable and gave her suggestions for gluten-free appetizers and wine selection. Â Then we set to conversation!
Appetizer of Truffle Butter & Parmesan Popcorn was finger-lickin' OK. Â Certainly a serving size capable of being shared by four. Â Meanwhile, we sipped on wine, beer, and (personally) The Fizz martini. Â Martini was served in a rocks glass (huh?) and was refreshingly light and sweet. Â My round 2 beverage of choice: the Pomegranate Margarita; deliciously potent with a sugar rim - had my cheeks rosy in no time!
For my entree: Grilled Veggie sandwich (with a modest fry side : $9) was completely satisfactory. Â Juicy and savory with the contrasting texture from the greens (and NO sloppy drippings!). Â The beau order the BBQ pulled pork sandwich (thank goodness it wasn't a first date, because that meal WAS sloppy). Â He reported that it was delicious, though slightly embarrassing to consume when surrounded by clubby types.
As the night went on the lights got a little lower, the music got a little louder, the outfits....a little smaller. Â A buff bouncer came to our table to ID us (again? - but we were already carded, and on our second cocktail order!). Â Then the music.got.louder. Â It was impossible to have a conversation, so our group disbanded at 10pm. Â I was surprised by this scene shift; I must say, the loud pulsing music isn't my idea of a nice dinner out with friends.
Perhaps the dining environment is more accommodating during the week. Â Perhaps you're into loud Friday nights (great drinks, great little plates menu, great beats). Â Perhaps this is one of the best "chain" 'raunts I've visited (being that the menu is actually delicious and the staff actually appears to have souls AND personality). Â Perhaps.....I will return (?). Â Either way, this isn't a place I'd bring anyone under 21 or over 45.
[[to be continued...?]]
I really liked this place! I always thought it was a martini bar. Nope. More like a sports bar inside. Its clean and pretty new inside. They  have nice tvs and a decent beer selection. I'm told that they do make good cocktails. I had nachos and they were pretty good. not the best I've had but decent. I liked the atmosphere. I also saw they have happy hour from 4-7 with 1/2 price apps! WOW! My kind of deal.
Review Source:Bar Louie is like T.G.I. Friday's older brother who you think is cool when you're a kid because he smokes cigarettes and drives a T-bird. Then you get through college and realized he's kind of just lazy and disgusting. Despite it's attempts to come across as hip or edgy or whatever it would be lucrative to be in a semi-college town, Bar Louie, and especially the Providence location, just kind of comes across as Applebee's with the lights turned down. The drinks aren't particularly good or particularly well-mixed, and their beer selection, while somewhat expansive, can't really compete with the others in the immediate vicinity. The drinks are expensive for what you get (although they do run some solid specials) and the clientele mostly look like the defendants in Lifetime movies. They do have a live DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, which would be a plus if the DJ wasn't always bordering on "crimes against humanity" status in terms of ability. While I've not eaten here, I've eaten at enough chain restaurants like this to know there are only so many ways you can overcook a piece of meat or serve soggy pasta. If you really HAVE to drink at a dimly lit chain restaurant, try the Bar Louie in Foxborough. At least that one has a pretty cool rooftop patio to drink your flirtini on.
Review Source:Come here for 4-7pm Happy Hour for half price appetizers!
They have a selection of 7-8 different appertizers that are HALF PRICE during happy hour. The list includes their infamous flatbread, spinach and artichoke dip (must have), chicken/cheese quesadillas and boneless chicken wings. Will this menu change? I hope not or else I'll cry because I love this list.
I can't believe I'm going to say this but their flatbreads are seriously better than the majority of pizzas out there. It's thin but not so thin that will fall apart. It did not make me feel guilty after eating almost all of it. Our favorite was the Italian Beef Flatbread with the punch of jalapeno! They cut the flatbread into squares and it's the perfect square of flavors. Hubby and I also had the spinach and artichoke dip and we fought to have the last chip and dip. Highly recommended!
We went while there was a popping private event that took up the entire bar and a big 20+ people baby shower party. However, this did not distract our server from being attentive! I must say, good job for handling the crowds and little customers.
As pointed by other yelpers, it loses one star because the music in the background is SO LOUD. I found myself yelling at my husband to talk (which I probably do enough already!). Turning it down just a little bit will seriously make the restaurant so much better. But, this is not a deal breaker for me so I'm cool with that.
Loved the truffle popcorn and the veggie wrap with fries.
It would be awesome if they would not use styrofoam for their takeout containers. so unnecessary
Update 5/25--So I stop in again for the veggie wrap with salad this time, the truffle popcorn, and the hummus appetizer. Wrap was good but had some undercooked carrots in it. salad was overdressed and bland. The hummus appetizer is really good but could use some more veggies, cucumbers and pita isnt very balanced. I would also get it without tapenade just because I don't like it in general. So I eat my wrap thinking I made a healthy decision until I look it up online later. If you need to make a veggie wrap 1000 calories and over 70grams of fat, you don't know what you are doing. This deters me in the future and now I feel irritable that I ate all that. It is deceptive and is the exact reason I don't trust most restaurants when trying to eat healthy. When you order a veggie wrap, it should be healthy and why doesn't this business post their nutrition info online like most chains do?
Stopped in here for dinner and drinks with some friends last week. The place was pretty dead. The hostess told us to pick any table, so we did. It had a few shot glasses from the last party that was never cleaned up... We sat down and started to catch up on our latest shenanigans. A few minutes later the waitress came over and we ordered some drinks, and we asked for menus... A good 15 minutes went by before we saw our menus or cocktails. We start to look it over, 20 minutes later she shows up again and we order... and order more drinks. Who knows when this crazy will be back. We split an order of Bavarian Pretzel Sticks. They where addicting! For dinner I ordered the Fried Louie Burger with BBQ sauce. The burger was decent, didn't really excite me, very bland chain quality meat. Sad really.
What really turned my rating to a one star was the awful waitress. Where does this girl disappear to? The service was terrible. 40 minute wait for our food? There was nobody in the restaurant! After we had eaten, and the waitress was clearing our table, she took my half consumed drink and put trash in it. I then told her I wasn't done with it and she hands it back... like I'm going to drink it with the straw wrappers in it. I think our waitress was on something. I mean really? I told her I wanted another one and she gave me an attitude like it was my fault. another ten minutes later she shows up with another one. I didn't even drink it. I went to the bar and ordered another one. The bartender knew what he was doing. Fast and efficient... not slow and rude.
Maybe I'm just being over dramatic... and maybe I cry inside when somebody is abusing my cocktail. Regardless... Bar Louie and I are breaking up. Forever...
Well I wanted to hate this place... but actually I didn't + was pleasantly surprised!
The bar area is pretty open + there is a wide range of people there... everything from your 20 somethings to 50+ at least! Music is ok---top hits--- the DJ was hitten' up the 90's for reals but he would take any suggestion + he gets major points for that... just a little loud. Maybe turn it down a lil. Seemed to get louder past 12... so unnecessary. The place isn't that big.
People weren't really dancing although this one guy + girl tried + the guy pushed her down so hard she face planted into the cement floor. oops. Gonna need to see a dentist!
We shared shots with the 49ers + enjoyed a drink or 12. Not too bad for a night out in PVD. I'd go back for sure.
If you need a lil drinkie in your night, this is your kinda place.
For me, Bar Louie is a solid 3 star spot. Â Bar food doesn't really excite me so I could never really see myself rating it much higher than that, but I do think they are good at the type of establishment they are and would absolutely go back. Â
I do monthly cocktail hour trips with a small group, and we decided to give Bar Louie a try. Â When I phoned to make reservations the manager called me back based on the size of our party, and we discussed where in the restaurant we wanted to be placed. Â She was super friendly and very accommodating. Â
There were about 10 of us, plus a few babies, and the staff was fantastic with us. Â They were attentive, made menu suggestions, and did not make us feel rushed even though our 5pm cocktail time extended close to 8pm. Â We order an array of apps and really enjoyed the hummus plate, buffalo chicken flatbread, and tater tots (seriously, they sprinkle these with some kind of yummy goodness) the most. Â The drink menu is vast, and very tasty as well. Â
Overall, I think it's a great spot for apps and drinks and LOVE that they keep their music level at a lower level than the one at Patriot's Place in Foxboro (I will not eat there because I hate that I can't have conversation while we eat). Â I can't see myself going here for dinner necessarily (again, just not my type of food) but it will certainly become one of my go-to spots for apps and drinks!
Let me start off that I'm not a fan of chain restaurants, but form the first step into Bar Louie it does not have a chain atmosphere. The waitstaff is super friendly and helpful. We ordered the popcorn and pretzels for apps. There were 4 of us and there was plenty to go around. The dipping sauces for the pretzels were great; honey mustard, jalapeño cheese, and cinnamon butter. the popcorn had truffle butter all over it, but not too much, and thats a good thing. I had the BBQ burger and it was delicious. I would recommend Bar Louie for some good pub food but not if you looking for fancy food or a romanic evening. Its an upscale Bar with good food.
Review Source:I came here after work yesterday to pass the time while being locked out of my house. While I was guaranteed to be happy in general about finally checking another of the Union Station restaurants off of my to-do list, I did not successfully guess in advance how happy my first trip to Bar Louie would make me. Here are a few of the things that went really well.
1) I had one of the bartenders, Alice, as my waitress, and she was one of the nicest servers I've ever had. She seemed very genuinely friendly. Also, I give her extra points for not modifying her demeanor based on my party size/order. I often eat at restaurants alone in the name of Yelp exploration. While many servers I have had are less friendly to me once they find out that the 20% tip on my order will be much less than the one their coworker will get on the six-person table across from me, but this was not at all the case with Alice. So she got an enormous tip.
2) I had a garbage salad and fries, both of which were fantastic. However, I especially loved the seasoning on the fries.
3) I really liked the general layout of the place. There was lots of room to spread out, my table on the right side was next to a floor-to-ceiling view of the Union Station pedestrian tunnel, and the restaurant was just generally well-decorated.
In conclusion, Bar Louie may be a chain restaurant, but the experience I had there yesterday was anything but impersonal. So if you pass up trying it on that account, you're making a big mistake!
Been here twice for the Tuesday $1 burger and it is awful. The ground beef is tasteless, the toppings were ok but not worth it once you start ordering more than three toppings.
The service is awful too. My and my party arrived at 730pm. The waitress came by to take get our drink orders but I wanted to sample of one of the beers. It took her a good ten minutes to come back. We then ordered our burgers. This brings us to around 750pm. We ordered two burgers, and for some reason it took 40 minutes to come out!! The waitress did not explain why it took so long nor came back after to see how our food was.
Now, you might think that since we went on Tuesday $1 burger night that it must have been super duper busy. But guess what? It wasn't! There wasn't a line coming through the door, nor there were all tables occupied.
So that is the last straw and never again.
Blech! Â That's what I thought. Â We went on a Sunday and they were promoting their 1/2 price apps. Â Not sure if they were going for 1/2 the quality but the spinach and artichoke dip was a bowl of milk with some spin and art and cheese and no flavor. Â And the housemade chips for dipping were so oily that they were actually malleable and had no crunch. Â Meals came and the fries were cold. Â Overall the food was greasy and nothing special, especially for the price. Â And I forgot to mention the agita that later insued. Â It made me regret my meal even more. Â I'm all set with Bar Louie.
Review Source:Met my sister there before her flight left for Florida.
We were the only customers there at 12 on a Sunday. The server was super sweet to my toddler age daughter.
The El Feugo boneless wings burned my mouth off. We had a salad with bacon, but it was too much bacon. I never thought I would say that...but it's true. The pretzel apps were really good and a lovely beer selection on draft.
Went to Bar Louie for a few drinks with three of my friends last Saturday night. They had a DJ, someone said that's not normal there but it should be, the music was great and it was a really fun atmosphere.
The drinks were expensive. $10.00 for tiny martinis and pretty small margaritas. Instead of ordering expensive glasses of wine we just went with a bottle of Canyon Road Merlot which at $17.00 for the bottle was pretty affordable.
We didn't eat dinner but one of my friends did order one of their flat breads and they said it was really good.
The service was a little slow but overall we had a fun night, I'd go back again!
For my birthday, a big group of friends brought me to Bar Louie. Both the manager and staff were accommodating and friendly.
A big cupcake cake from Duck & Bunny highlighted the night along with their Gold Medal mixed drink.
You can eat here late-night and it's a nice change to the restaurants that have been trying to survive in this spot.
I really wanted to like Bar Louie when I heard about their $1 burger special on Tuesdays. I headed down on a Tuesday, eager to check it out. We were seated promptly and the server was friendly, but she explained to me that in order to get the $1 burger you had to each order a drink (other than water) and also had to get at least one side. That was fine, so my husband and I both ordered beers.
The beers come in 14 and 20 oz, which is kind of annoying. Why am I being shorted on 2 oz of beer for a standard draft? The Sierra Nevada was $6.25 for 14 oz and the Woodchuck Cider was $5.25 or $5.50 for 14 oz. That is pretty pricey for Providence, and especially considering you only get 14 oz.
Then the burgers came. You do have to pay for the cheese and the toppings which is fine since the base price is $1, but my burgers was so charred as to be completely inedible. It just tasted like a burnt hockey puck. My husband had the turkey burger which was actually really good, though.
We also got the smothered tator tots as our side, which at $9, was also ridiculously expensive. They were very good and topped with a spicy and smoky queso, bacon & scallions. They were definitely the highlight of the meal.
In conclusion, the place seemed over priced to me for the area. I would rather do Luxe or Ri Ras right next door. Better food and better prices.
Bar Louie, even though you are a chain restaurant... I admit, I have an itty bitty crush on you.
It all started when I met your big brother over at Patriots Place. I thought he was okay to look at, but nothing special. But there's something different about you, Bar Louie Providence.
Is it that amazing coconut mint cocktail I had? Or the great apps menu? Or those big windows that open up for a night breeze? The friendly waitress?
I don't know, Bar Louie. I don't know. But I'll be back to find out.
Had an outstanding experience at Bat Louie last night.
Our server, Tes, gave impeccable service. We were all pretty blown away by her personality and attentiveness!
The chef came out and discussed my girlfriends food allergies face-to-face (rather then sending the server back and forth) which was a really nice touch.
The cocktails were tasty and came on time, every time. My only gripe with Bar Louie is their price point on beer: $7 bucks for a 14.oz draft of Long Trail IPA... but it's quite easy to see past the cost of beer when receiving such great service.
Bar Louie was such a great spot for us to start our night, we ended up returning for last call, hours later. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable in his craft, even when it was almost time to close.
Definitely a new favorite.
I had the pleasure of going to Bar Louie for a ladies night out and had a great time! Â I had been to the Bar Louie in Foxboro but didn't know what to expect in RI. Â It was a little louder than a typical restaurant/bar but we enjoyed great music, a fun, steady crowd of people and it's an overall great addition to providence.
This place is unique and I hope it is successful - it certainly seemed busy when we were there!
Bar Louie is a chain. I guess there aren't many around here, but there are quite a few around Chicago. I really didn't like the one in Evanston (Illinois) and found it totally overrated.
Still, I tried to keep such biases in check, since this was a different location, after all. I still found Bar Louie disappointing. I went there on St. Patrick's Day, and I didn't eat food, just had a drink with friends.
I'm not a beer person, but I got an Amstel Light. It was served in a gigantic stadium cup and $8.50. Stadium prices, too! It was a big cup, in all fairness, but a) I didn't want that much (and definitely didn't finish it...) and b) $8.50 for a middle-of-the-road import is a bit silly, especially since I would've been content with much less of it too.
As it was a consecrated national holiday for day drinking (though we were there at about 8pm), some Jameson brand rep gave us free shots! It was nice. I am not a Jameson person, but Jameson and ginger ale went down easily enough. Also, I thought it was champagne at first, and what does this say about me, etc.
I can't even give Bar Louie 3 stars, really, because it's not that special, it's overpriced, the service is aloof and slow, and the layout is kind of not great. It's just not special. Providence is so full of local businesses, and although I would not try to tell you that I don't like a good chain (e.g. CHIPOTLE), this chain really does not add much to downtown Providence.
I was lured into Bar Louie by the promise of $1 Burger Night (every Tuesday 5pm - Close).
My wife and I each enjoyed a $1 Burger (options are Traditional Hamburger, Turkey Burger, Chicken Breast, or Portobello Mushroom). Â I opted for the traditional hamburger while she ordered the Portobello Mushroom Burger. Â We also ordered a basket of tater-tots and I had a beer.
Here is the catch on $1 burger night. Â For $1 you get a burger with lettuce on a plain bun and the privilege of ketchup. Â Additional toppings range from $0.50 to $1.50. Â So my $1 burger turned quickly into a $4 burger with the addition on Tomato, Jack Cheese, Onion Strings, Bacon, and Guacamole. Â
In no time at all, our meals arrived. Â The Burgers were good and the tater-tots were totally worth it. Â
Soon thereafter, the check came. Â I look down. Â $16.00? Â How did I spend $16 on $1 Burger night? Â I didn't eat 16 burgers! Â My wife didn't. Â Did she? Â No, she didn't. Â But that's the hook. Â The toppings, beers and tater-tots inflate the bill, thus making $1 burger night profitable for Bar Louie. Â
All in all, $16.00 plus tip for a decent night out? Â I'll take it. Â Maybe it counts as a mid-week date night? Â Yeah, I'll count it. Â Bam! (yell it like Emeril) Â
Next time I will try out the Miserly Strategy: Order a several plain burger with a side of water and no tater-tots.
Made a return visit to Bar Louie recently for lunch with friends (including one who made the initial trip).
We all ordered sandwiches. The portabella wasn't bad. The portions were surprisingly small for the price ($10-13). I think our fry portions were at the end of their batch. We each got maybe a handful of itty-bitty fries. Â All of us cleaned our plates and remarked how that never happens.
Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the meal, although she shorted us a few bucks change on the bill.
I've been to a few other locations and have always enjoyed the experience. I know they haven't been open long so...
We decided to check it opening weekend. As to be expected it was super busy. we were able to get a table at the bar within 15 mins which wasn't too bad.
Being a holiday weekend they should have been ready for the masses of kids home from collage and kept their kitchen stocked. The were out of a lot of menu options.
What they did have was pretty good. Their beer was over priced.
Might check out after a couple of weeks when it slows down a bit.
