This establishment was previously called the "Banyan Court" It's probably one of the best beach bars in Waikiki. Â You can situate yourself right next to the beach, or under the sprawling Banyan Tree for a more relaxed atmosphere.
Besides having full bar service, they also provide a menu of appetiters and light meals prepared fresh from a small, on site kitchen. Â We had an appetizer of "Poke' Nachos" that was made with fresh Ahi Poke' and house made Won Ton Chips all drizzled with a spicy aioli. Â Don't pass this one up, it's to die for. Â We also had the Moana Burger done medium perfectly! Â Service was spot on but not intrusive.
A great place to wind down the day or for a romantic evening nightcap. Â I'd recommend this place to visitors as well as locals.
This was a cool spot to grab a drink and be in a relaxed atmosphere, despite being right on Waikiki. Â You have the option to be right at the more lively bar area or at the laid-back seating/restaurant area where you can listen to some great traditional music.
They are known for their Mai Tai and I was not disappointed with my drink!
the service here is.. well.. we were completely overlooked the first 5 minutes so my friend walked over to the bar to put in our order. a few minutes later, our server finally found her way over to us and we got our drinks in no time.
beachside drinks are delicious here!! i got the lilikoi ginger. so refreshing!!
perfect place to unwind and relax in the shade of the huge banyan tree, with a clear view of diamond head. :) people watching is a must!
We decided to grab a drink here while staying on Waikiki. Found a seat quickly and had time to peruse the drink menu before the waitress came over. My sister and I went for one of their specialties while my dad had a beer. The service was average and the drinks were overpriced. This shouldn't be surprising based on the location, but with Dukes right next door it doesn't garner more than an "okay" from us.
Review Source:I stumbled upon here one night while cruising the strip. My friends and I were looking for a new place to have a few drinks. Unfortunately we each only had ONE Mai Tai, at $12 a drink you're going to think twice about having a "few".. LOL! :P
Overall it was a nice evening, open air and cool ocean breeze. Nice place to chat with friends. I would come back to hangout and watch the sunset, its so relaxing.
The Beach bar and Banyan Court is a must see during any trip to Honolulu. Â Located in the historic Moana Surfrider hotel which opened back in the early 1900's- this bar and restaurant is a great place to grab some food, and have a drink all within steps of the beach.
The restaurant is built around a historic Banyan Tree which is absolutely huge and lovely. Â There is live music at night and plenty of tables so it is rare that you are not able to grab a seat.
The service is a little hit or miss. Â On some visits it's been great- on this one- it was slow but I think they may have been understaffed for a busy Thursday night.
We shared some ahi poke as an appetizer- quite good and then had a burger and a chicken sandwich which, while good, were not noteworthy.
The drinks were well poured and the people watching is legendary. Â You just never know who might be sitting at the table next to you!
Love this old hotel. Â And even if you are not staying here- just stop in as you walk along the beach for a cold one. Â You'll probably end up staying the rest of the day!
This bar was alright.  Drinks were overpriced at about $12 per.  But wait.....look at the picture I took and tell me if there's something wrong with my beer (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-beach-bar-honolulu?select=ulICLLxTLtwGD-ODfz5QpQ#55P4-3iXXPkBWsBzuyipyQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>).  Apparently, the bartender needs a little bit more training.  And to make things worse, my girl freaked out when she saw a rat run into the bushes.  NO BUENO.  At least the pina colada she ordered was tasty...the rat sauce gave it a nice little kick.
Review Source:**4.5 star**
If you like a nice chill outdoor patio to watch the sunset while sipping a beer or cocktail with some nice live music, then this is a place to check out!
I went to Hawaii mid April and I had read good reviews of this bar before I went so I decided to check it out.
As I stepped foot into the beautiful Moana surfrider hotel, I stepped onto the patio entrance. The patio is located right on the beach, surrounded with palm trees and is right next to the pool. Just gazing at the amazing outside of the hotel is enough decor for me. The patio didn't really have any decor but I think the unique hotel features makes up for that!
I'd recommend getting to this place early though if you want a good seat as it is a seat yourself kind of place.
The drink menu has a huge selection, well I think so. Lots of Hawaiian cocktails and of course the classics, like margaritas which is what I had. The cocktail was good. They have beer and wine too. As far as pricing for drinks, it is a little expensive ($10-$11 I think) but I think it is worth it considering the patio is really nice and the view is great.
As far as food selection, they have a lot of starters/appetizers and some mains. I had the steak and salad. The steak was cooked to perfection, just how I asked for it! The salad was great too!
The service was ok. The servers were really busy, not super friendly and we waited a while before our order was actually taken. (--0.5 star for not super service)
Overall, I had a good experience and definitely enjoyed the patio and I would go back again. I would recommend this patio. A perfect place to catch the sunset!
This is a large bar/restaurant with good drinks and great views at a classic Waikiki hotel.
The view is great from most tables, until sunset when everyone walking along the beach stops and sits on the wall along the beach side of the bar, blocking your view. Â No worries, just don't plan on sitting and watching the sun disappear. Â
I really liked their banyon nachos, which has a very Hawaiian twist to toppings on nachos. Â Good service every time we've been there. Â Even if only having coffee in the morning, they're helpful and friendly. Â
And the walk through the hotel lobby is a nice people-watching stroll through Hawaiian history.
Although the drinks are a few dollars more than the regular cocktail, these drinks are stiff (at least the mai tai's are) and the chi chi's are DELICIOUS! Â It's almost a coconutty smoothie. Â Both should help you fall asleep just nicely. Â Mr. Rean made the boyfriend a nice off-the-menu fixer-upper with something special in the straw. Â They refilled our peanuts and gave us the extras without charge. Â It's a beautiful place to be especially since it's off Wakiki, with the beach as its backyard. Â Something you'd see in a movie. Â I like it here :)
Review Source:REAN P (Reen?) was awesome! Â We had another bartender initially, who was also pretty awesome, but then Rean took over. Â I had the chi-chi to start and my girlfriend had a Mai Tai, both of which were veryyy veryy good (and stiff! Â :P). Â Then Rean made me a "specialty" drink. Â That drink was BOMBBBBBBBB. Â
My girlfriend and I spent about 25 dollars each between me and her, but that was plenty enough to get both of us pretty tipsy! Â Also, got some peanuts and a free refill, which was an extra nice addition as well :P
All in all, this bar was amazing. Â The environment is very nice, the location is on point, and the bartenders were definitely there to help you have a good time. Â Very good experience from me and my girlfriend.
Located in the Moana Surfrider hotel and situated in the center of Waikiki Beach, the Beach Bar truly lives up to its namesake. This bar literally sits on the beach and the water is just a stone's throw away. When I come here I like to sit in the far back patio and just soak up some and throw back some of their signature mai tais. A must order here also are the kahlua pig nachos!!!...hella freakin' bomb. Cost here is a lil pricey but you can't beat the ambience.
Review Source:Royal Hawaiian makes no mistakes. Â Beach Bar is beautiful and sophisticated. Â If you are not buying drink up. Â Music at night.. service has aloha... not a active crowd.. but if you want action go Dukes on Sunday. Â Pink Hotel is icon so it is a must as is Halekulani & Dukes. Â Food is not memorable but better than most hotels in town. Â
Nice place to end the evening if you are over 30 or staying at the palace.
The Beach Bar is where I take visitors for a nice sunset drink in waikiki, way more civilized that Dukes. Â The drinks are slightly expensive (just a bit more than the usual Waikiki venues), but it's located right on the beach, and if you can find a table the view is amazing. Â I enjoy taking people here for an after work drink, then venture to dinner somewhere. Â
My brothers told me that 2 of the waiters were rather rude and threw the menu at them, but I never experienced that type of service.
Eh, my experience w/ this bar was pretty average. Â Drinks are expensive at $11-$12 a pop, they don't pour that well. Â Me and my gf sat at the bar and it smelled like throw up or something.
Complimentary snacks are just whatever, which are planters nuts (same you get at Costco). Â They play live music tho. Â
Mai tai bar & House w/o a key are much better alternatives.
I love the patio, which is right in front of the beach. Â Cocktails and tropical drinks run about $12, and they're not super strong, but they taste really good and aren't too syrupy. Â The lava flow tastes more like a pineapple coconut banana smoothie, which I liked. Â They also have a skinny margarita, which is nice, since all the more tropical drinks can really pack on the calories.
They have light food options, too (burgers, appetizers, a few desserts, kids menu). Â The ahi nachos aren't cheap at $29, but it is a huge plate.
You're paying for the setting, but it is a beautiful place.
The sun is setting over quite possibly the most famous beech in the world. Â It's truly a picture postcard scene. Beautiful women in tiny bikinis are everywhere. Â The outdoor pool is steps away with more bikinis. Â Live music is in the background. Â Excellent bartenders. Â Unbelievable, phenomenal, mai tais that will knock you on your butt. Â Ah this is the life!
Review Source:So let me premise that I'm not a huge Waikiki goer, as many of us locals find the bars overpriced, the streets are filled with jaywalkers or pedestrians who think they have every right to talk when the red had is flashing.
However, I do love The Beach Bar. The staff are friendly, the drinks are tasty and the view makes this place so unforgettable. It's been a minute since I took a bite into their teri burger but that and the sunset view was the two most memorable places on my list.
How could you not love this place? Right on the beach, shaded under an amazing banyan tree, with the perfect spot to catch a sunset? The setting is perfect. I felt like I was in some commercial or a movie or something. It's a really other worldly feeling. Not to mention a great drink menu. I stuck with the Mai Tai, and my goodness they were strong. The bar tender made it great, it was so well done. After that I stuck with some local Hawaii beers. The company was great and the bar tenders were accommodation and super friendly. What a great place!
Review Source:Prior to our arrival we envisioned spending long afternoons here, soaking up the atmosphere, enjoying appetizers, and downing tropical drinks. Â
Enter reality, Its hard to get a table, drinks were expensive, and the appetizers were average at best.
We were very disappointed. Â The entertainment is top notch though, and it was a great spot to see the sun go down.
This place is really nice to just stop by and relax, right on the beach.
Pros:
-Great views and great sunsets
-Drinks look nice. And by nice I mean girly, which I don't care I'm
at the beach dammit!
-Great lounge beach chairs
-Live music
Cons:
-Expensive (like $12 a drink!)
-Sometimes no where to sit.

The Beach Bar is located at The Moana Surfrider Hotel under the Big Banyon tree.
The bar is situated between the main hotel and of course the beautiful waters of Waikiki Beach.
We came here to meet up with some friends from the mainland on a cool clear evening. They wanted to listen to the talented Johnny Valentine (Bruno Mars Uncle). John Valentine played for 2 1/2hrs and was definitely worth a trip into Waikiki.
Back to the food side, we ordered:
*Poke Nachos with homemade Wonton Chips and Furikake..Wow! This is one of the best Ahi and Chips I have ever eaten. The large portion really surprised me!
*Garlic fries with dipping sauce..Served in a tall holder, it was really good. Sauce matches well with the crispy fries.
*Chicken Pesto Pizza..All I can say about this dish is that it was "Ono" and lasted
about two minutes.
Friendly service and relaxing atmosphere (Romantic if you want to go there..lol!!)
Expect Waikiki Pricing.
Valet Parking.
I'd been wanting to sit by the beach and sip on a cocktail since day one in Hawaii, and since I wasn't staying at a resort, The Beach Bar was the closest thing to that. Even though I'm not sitting on the beach, it was nice sitting next to it with some pretty strong and decent drinks the bar had to offer. There was a live singer that night too. He sang everything Hawaiian style from Michael Jackson's Billy Jean to the island classics of Over the Rainbow. It's pure enjoyment and relaxation!
The drinks and snacks are on the expensive side and some drinks are hit or miss. Just stick with the classics!
It's nice to have a beach bar right off of your hotel but I wouldn't call this anything special. You only get a real unobstructed view of the beach if you sit in a certain area, and it's loud with a bunch of noise.
That said the drinks are good though they are way overpriced. Even more than usual in Waikiki.
If the waiters aren't slammed the service is good--but don't try to flag them down or they'll get resentful and slow your service. Let them work at their own pace.
You can also order food, and there's a pretty good selection here.
This is exactly what you picture when you think of a beach bar in Hawaii. Â Awesome ambiance of music, delicious tropical drinks with umbrellas in them, friendly service, all set with the ocean in the backdrop. Â We ended our night here every day and it was awesome! Â
There was also this singer/guitarist guy who does covers, I believe his name is Jeremy or something, he is amazing, sooo talented! Add's his own hawaiian laid-back style to any song, even Michael Jackson! Â
Tip: Pay the extra money to get the souvenir coconut cup. Â They're custom-made for the Moana Surfrider, super-cute and only a few extra bucks. Â We got one each night and now have a nice little set :)
I came here on my honeymoon because lonely planet recommended this place. Â I do have to say it was lively and the view of the water at night is something magical. Â
I was not impressed by their food and it was really expensive. Â We both ordered burgers and our bill for the burgers and drinks was almost $50 which is a little too much. Â
Even though it was expensive to eat here, I would probably come back to have drinks and enjoy the view.
Another visit to one of my favorite outdoor bars in Waikiki, and this time... we actually ate!
The fish tacos were so good that I ended up ordering them twice. Not in the same day, mind you. Delicious. They have a ton of fresh shrimp and just enough spice. At first I thought the rice with edamame tasted a little like I thought feet might, until I added a little soy sauce. Now? My new favorite thing. I ordered it everywhere I saw it on the island. Yum. Nutty, earthy goodness.
Great views, fantastic food and a terrific wait staff. Hands down, my favorite Waikiki hangout.
The setting can't be beat on Waikiki - a beautiful (and HUGE) banyan tree is the focal point for his beachside patio just dripping in twinkle lights. Â
The service was top-notch each of the three evenings we spent on the Veranda. Â Live music and hula. Â A perfect place to watch the sun set over Waikiki.
Unfortunately, the drinks are hit-or-miss and generally sub-par. Â For $10+ cocktails on Waikiki, this is certainly a shame.
The Banyan Court aka The Beach Bar located in the classically charming Moana Surfrider Hotel...
Their food sucks; we felt like it came straight from Costco and presented to us with poor preparation skills, a tenth of the portion, and 12x the price! Â Their drinks suck, the service really sucked, and it was expensive...the only thing that's going for them is their beachside location but their set-up is only very mediocre. Â With so many options on this beautiful island, why go back?
Mai Tai's, Take 2!
I had no intention of having a mai tai today. Â Honest. Â I was wandering along, trying to find a non-chain place to have dinner. Â I passed the Louis Vuittons, the Furlas and the Salvatore Ferragamos of the world, and before long, the glitz caught up with me and I found myself in front of the famed Moana Surfrider Hotel, home of The Beach Bar and home to the famous banyan tree. Â
I was trying to have a healthy day, but since it was clear that I was indeed going to drink a mai tai, I made the savvy decision to consume the majority of my dinner calories in liquid form and eat something very light for dinner. Â I ordered a mai tai and a fruit plate.
My beverage was eye winkeringly strong. Â (That word should now exist in Wikipedia fame next to "The Beach Bar, ref. mai tai." Â Seriously.) Â The last time I remember having such a potent drink, I was 22 and dancing on a catwalk... in a skirt. Â While it's true that the drinks are strong like bull, I am now old enough to recognize that ungodly amounts of alcohol does not a good drink make. The mai tai did not even come close to the deliciousness I experienced at The Royal Hawaiian's Mai Tai Bar.
The fruit plate was nice, as were the cute bartenders. Â The comedic guitar player was a very nice touch. Â Best of all, I met a lovely mom and daughter pair who took me under their wing and befriended me. Â We now have plans to meet at The Royal Hawaiian on what will be our collective last night in Honolulu!
I arrived in Honolulu past Monday and the first place I went to was this
great place that is both classy and beautiful. One reason I came was to
order the stiff drinks I've heard here. The mai tais did not disappoint,
though it wasn't cheap at all. But who the f*ck cares when you drink
lots, including a few shot of Patron silver that seemed like a double in
a plastic cup. After awhile, being a lightweight like myself, I realized not
ingesting food beforehand could lead to some great cause and effect.
Did you know Art Kalahiki also plays here once a week?
Half the experience coming here is to get raped six dollars for valet.
Exploitation! Don't forget to get it validated prior to leaving. After all this,
really though, you have to just come here with your love one and
extemporaneous come here for a good time!
