The security officer I work with always comes to work with one of their burgers. So the other day, my coworker and I decided to share one of their bacon cheese burgers and fries. We got everything on the side so we could pick and choose what we wanted. It tasted great... moist and juicy, soft bun, fresh veggies... but the fries where pretty disappointing. They were very thin, homemade and not cooked all the way. I would go back but maybe ask for a side salad or onion rings instead of fries.
Review Source:I've been inside The Beachcomber once and my quick first impressions of the bar was that it was an okay place to be. I recall being super relived when I first waked inside the place and could see for myself that The Beachcomber was a quality neighborhood bar that has decent local people for its customers. I ordered a quick drink while I was waiting for a bus to come one afternoon and I thought the bar tender did a fair job of making what I asked for. I was surprised how chill the place was considering that the neighborhood its in, called Skyway, has held its reputation for having its abundant share of shady people who regularly cause trouble for others in the area.
Review Source:First of all, a disclaimer: Â My girlfriends father owns this bar, so bear that in mind as you read this.
This place is in no way a hipster bar. Â It's not trendy, it's not cutting edge. Â It's not even a charmingly decrepit dive bar. Â The Beachcomber is a straight-up neighborhood bar. Â The kind of place where people come day after day, month after month, year after year; where everybody knows each other. Â People come here to have a drink in a comfortable place and to have some pretty good bar food while they're at it. Â I honestly don't know another place like this in Seattle, but the Beachcomber reminds me of all the little corner bars in Chicago: The ones with no name and full of regular guys who've been drinking together since high school.
Now, that description might seem intimidating to anyone who isn't already a regular and, to be honest, I was intimidated the first time I came in. Â I could feel all eyes turning to me, trying to figure out who the new guy was. Â Five minutes after I sat down at the bar, however, I was having a conversation with the guy sitting next to me and felt perfectly at home, and that's been my experience every time I've been there since.
Finally, as to Chris H's comment about feeling unsafe at the Beachcomber, I have to say that he has no idea what he's talking about. Â I don't normally call out other people's reviews, but in a neighborhood full of sketchy bars/gang hangouts the Beachcomber is the only place that I feel safe. Â Never have I seen any gang activity of any sort at this bar.
The Beachcomber is the kind of place you might avoid from the outside. It's in a kind of sketchy neighborhood....But the place on the inside is friendly and cheap, a mix of people of all races and ages, and has really good burgers, with home made crispy waffle fries, and a couple of nice microbrews on tap.
This is the safe place to go in Skyway to have pretty good food at good prices.
Well its probably a little safer than the skyway bowl since it is right next to the police station, but after popping my head through the door and being pushed by a friend, I did manage to make it through a beer and keep my wallett and valuables, but was wary the entire time. Â I don't think wearing a blue hoodie was the greatest idea, this seems like it is more bloods territory. Â So if you are ever passing through skyway and need to wet your whistle, don't stop here unless you are strapped and wearing yo colors foo!
Review Source:let me just tell you, i have looked at this place many a time as i waited for a bus to go downtown and get my drink on. my first instinct was, "i dont think i ever need to know whats in there." its right next to a police substation in a not so cozy part of town. its amazing how a double vodka martini gulped down in a matter of minutes can change your mind. we had 30 minutes till the next bus so i convinced my 2 sidekicks that we should check it out. it really wasnt that scary. mainly because everybody there was like 50 or older.... and singing some bad karaoke. a shot of tequlia and 10ozs of Rainier made that bus appear in no time!! :-0) Â if you ever go in, be sure to check out the "creative" spelling on the specials of the day board. Â casadila's sounded really good but we just didnt have the time....
