When I first heard this place was about to open two years ago, I got very excited. Â I am native German, so once in a while I crave some good German comfort food that reminds me of my moms cooking....
The downtown Renton location is fairly easy to access by public transportation, however, if you drive make sure to not use the adjacent empty space (it's not meant to be a parking lot, I believe), if you  don't want to ruin your car - especially in the dark.
Once you step into Berliner Pub, you are greeted by a very inviting, loft-like open space, with a bar to the left and a cozy fireplace, as well as outdoor seating in the back. Pretty awesome. As is the beer selection. They did not have my favorite German beer, which is Augustiner, but then, neither do any other German establishments I have come across in the state of WA. No harm done, but no brownie points either in that regard.
The menu has expanded since they first opened, which is good news for most, I suppose. Especially for those who have previously enjoyed "German" food in Leavenworth (or Epcot in DisneyWorld, for that matter), and liked it. It's the same premise, "German" food done by "non-Germans", neither particularly authentic nor particularly enjoyable for my taste. - And please, if you must offer mustard with your pretzels (yikes!), can you at least also offer some butter - cause that would be more authentic.
Still, great venue, and good selection of beers. And they do not only show soccer games, they even organize trips to Sounders games, if Fussball is your cup of tea.
If they improve their menu, and the speed of their service, this could turn into a really amazing place!
Fantastic authentic German bier! Great bratwurst, pretzel and you HAVE to try the fried pickles! Best appetizer this side of the Milky Way. The beer selection could do with some NW favorites, but there's a German beer here for any beer snob to enjoy regardless of preference; plus! The bartenders know which you would prefer based on your favorite style of beer. My regular bar from now on!
Review Source:Out of the few places I've visited in Renton, this was definitely the spot to hang out at! I got this red gummy bear cocktail and it was quite delicious. I also heard their pretzels were delicious so I had to try it! Got the one with 2 different mustards, very soft and large! Definitely something to share. Also had their fried pickles.. I've never had this before so it was pretty interesting to try. They give you a good amount as well. Can't go wrong with these snacks. A nice place to hang out, have a beer and talk. They also have an outdoor area with a small fire pit.
I'd definitely come back here to hang out!
