Beer Authority

My buddy and I were in The City and we wanted some drinks, and since we're beer aficionados, we had to try the 'authority' on our favorite beverage. As we expected there was a pretty good variety of beer both on tap and bottled. We also got some sliders since we were hungry. Sliders were about $10 and included fries. Beer prices were in the $8 range on average, not many below that and some even more pricey. You have to expect as much from Manhattan. I was in a similar beer joint in Australia that also had a pricey beer menu, but they had an even more extensive selection.

My big knock on this place was the atmosphere. We were in on a late Thursday night. There was a live DJ (and pretty bad at that) playing hip hop and the like. He still had his training wheels on. The crowd was half regular dudes like us, and half business-y looking folks. Service was also pretty slow considering it wasn't super busy. Not what we were expecting at all from a restaurant/bar like this. If I was back in Manhattan, might stop in during the day for a beer I feel like I can't find elsewhere, otherwise pass.

I would actually give this place negative 5 starts if possible. It looks nice, and has a good idea. However, those who run this establishment are nothing but cocky, ignorant low lives. Waited way too long to get a beer at the bar, and when I did I could barely understand the disgruntled older guy who served it to me. Im sorry I was ordering a beer at a bar... the hostess, who sent us in circles for about a half hour, asking other tables to get up and moving us 3 or 4 times before we were finally squished into a table for 4, when we were 6. I asked to speak to the manager several times but they never showed their head, nor did the hostess ever come back to see how we were doing after the horrible first impression was made. usually these things can be amended but she didnt even seem to care. THEN my friend actually got food poising from the spare ribs (odd asian influence for an irish pub type place) and when she called back the next day no one even cared, nor called her back when she AGAIN asked to speak to a manger. after dinner we ran from our squished table, to try to get drunk at the bar and leave as quickly as possible. My friends got hit on, by who i was told was ONE OF THE OWNERS!!!! who then turned out to be a dick when we didnt want to sit and drink with him all night. over all, a horrible experience and these people should go back to running hole in the wall places. they do not belong in times square, or new york for that matter.

I wanted to love this place SO MUCH because I have passed it a million times and it always sounds like the best place for a beer-at least because the name suggests that.

HOWEVER, I WAS PROVED SO WRONG

Upon arrival to the rooftop (one of the main reasons I even wanted to try this place) we were ushered away from the bar as there was a private party, so we got shoved in the corner and were offered the consolation prize of table service. While there was nothing wrong with the table service, the end of our encounter is why I am REALLY writing this review.
After requesting the bill, the waitress could not have snatched it off the table any faster and then basically threw it back on the table. As we were standing up to leave she came back, opens the bill folder, looks at her tip and the following scenario unfolded:

waitress:  "we don't accept coins"  (and by coins she's referring to quarters-not even small coins that actually ARE annoying, not to mention there were also bills in the folder as well)
my friend: "Wait what?"
waitress: " WE DON'T ACCEPT COINS"
my friend: "well it is still money so please take it"
waitress: DUMPS THE COINS INTO A CUP ON OUR TABLE AND STORMS OFF

I was dumbfounded, if you are too good for coins that is not my problem- plenty of people in the city would be happy to even be getting money.  I thought that was an extremely inappropriate way to handle the situation and because of this waitress (who's name I never got) I will never go back there because apparently my money is not good enough.
