La Carafe

Initial tip: Amazing restaurant the staff is great and the owner even have menu suggestions.  Will definitely come back again.

Came here one Friday evening after work to start the night right and I definitely did.  Went here with a friend on a his last day of work and neither of us had been here before. Always up to the challenge we decided to go with some of the Small Hot Apps. The owner was walking around talking to customers and he stopped at our table. We asked him for a wine and food suggestion and he gave both.  Though i am not a fan of red wine he choice was pretty good and was enough for me to have more than one glass.

From the hot apps we ordered the Chicken Beignets which was really delicious what made it taste even better was the dijon mustard that it came with. It had a nice spicy kick to it that really bought out the flavors,  We also ordered the Mousaka Vegetarian which was seriously waaayyyy better than I expected because I detest eggplant.  

I believe that this is all that we had but there might have been more I cannot remember right now. But this is NOT to be missed at all !!! Though it might not look like much from the outside the inside is extremely nice, the waitstaff is amazing nice and you might even get to meet the owner.  

Also, a little funny there was a woman at the door I believe she might have been the hostess. A man came up to her and began dancing and they just danced in the doorway it was the cutest things and added to the ambiance.  When we left she said "Bonsoir, merci beaucoup" I love the added touched especially because it seemed like she meant it.

The ambiance is terrific. Its cozy. Staff was great to until the waiter added a 18% gratuity to my check without asking. He knew I was headed to a show and was in a rush to leave, but still.

The food was ok. The steak was grizzly. I had heard so many great reviews about it I was looking forward to it.

Overall just ok.

We came in Sunday afternoon after a matinee--Hassane, our waiter, was delightful!  Although the restaurant wasn't too crowded, he was very attentive and we shared a great conversation with him as well as tasted his delectable cocktails. Great happy hour prices, great find in midtown!
