A slice of heaven in Hell's Kitchen is the piano bar/ cabaret/ showcase/ restaurant Don't Tell Mama, where you never have to fake a smile . . . because you have truly reached a happy tuneful place. Â
Wear a sophisticated hat with a veil and wink at the pianist as you sip your Cosmopolitan. Â Tap your feet. Â Clap. Imagine you are waiting for the Gershwins to waltz in. Give in to every impulse to let the music take you higher.
So many acts onstage!
So much cabaret history has been made within these walls.
I hope this iconic spot will be here for many years to come.
My wife discovered this spot via Broadway Radio on XM and insisted we head over after catching Book of Mormon on a Thursday night. It's a little dive bar in the basement that packs a huge punch. Great piano player/singer, singing wait staff and cheap booze all lead to a GREAT night out.
The only thing keeping them from a 5 star review was the "food". Ordered the cheese plate (amongst other items) and it was terrible. Thinly sliced cheddar, brie and I'm guessing gouda (?) with cheap crackers and thinly sliced apples. Just terrible.
Beyond that it made for one of the most enjoyable nights I've ever had in the theatre district and would highly recommend.
Came here for happy hour with coworkers and specials were awesome, the service was so-so (I suppose my waiter was more interested in singing than serving). Â I ding a star because the menu was uninspiring and I was quite hungry. Â There was a cabaret show going in the back and I plan to come back for that. Â The place is a little old-fashioned, but in that pseudo-glamorous old fashioned new york kind-of-way that makes this city so special.
