Nice neighborhood bar with a relaxed atmosphere and a good bartender; not much eye candy though, at least not this past Tue. night my friend and I went. Â The chicken fajita quesadilla I had was good. Â I need to go back and try more from the menu to give an impartial review; and it appears I may be. Â Decent 80's music was playing which I thought was cool.
Review Source:How could I not go to a bar called Honky Tonk on 4th of July weekend? It seemed almost criminal not to head to a place with a small-town-bar, faux-wooden exterior and a name like that!
I was a little less excited when I actually walked in to Honky Tonk. I went with my girlfriend who was, in turn, meeting a few people at the bar. Her friends always raved about the place, since they live nearby. Everyone gets attached to their local place, but I was not very impressed.
There's nothing wrong with Honky Tonk; the beer selection is nice, it wasn't too crowded, and the clientele was a nice mix of non-douchey groups of people. I expected a place called Honky Tonk to be, you know, a Honky Tonk, but once you walk it becomes pretty clear it's followed that "this is what a bar should look like" formula you find pretty much everywhere else. Nothing I can complain about, nothing great.
I don't judge a place (except in exceptionally atrocious circumstances) on one visit though, and it seems the food is the real strong suit here. I promise to go back hungry.
I was immediately wary of a place called "Honky Tonk", BUT, the only "honky tonk" thing about it was the food and the decor. Went here two nights in a row when I was visiting my friend. First night we sat at a table, second night we sat at the bar.. and a group of How I Met Your Mother style woo girls (cowboy hats and all) came in but fortunately kept their woos to a minimum.
Food: Reasonably priced standard Tex Mex fare; cheese quesadilla is $8, filling, and comes with big dollops of sour cream, guac, and salsa. Wait staff is attentive, no problems!
Drinks: Angry Orchard on tap, tried the Huckleberry Finn special which was solid, $5 frozen margarita is sort of like a tequila-infused slushie but is made strong, the bartender was friendly and knew what he was doing (and cute, too, just throwing that out there).
Music: Mostly country which I personally dislike, but when we arrived early Saturday (7pm ish) they were playing an awesome Pandora station with Death Cab, Of Monsters & Men, etc. type music.
Overall, a good bar, 3 TVs if you want to watch a game, and casual atmosphere. Oh, and the bathrooms were really nice, too!
