Nice neighborhood bar with a relaxed atmosphere and a good bartender; not much eye candy though, at least not this past Tue. night my friend and I went. The chicken fajita quesadilla I had was good. I need to go back and try more from the menu to give an impartial review; and it appears I may be. Decent 80's music was playing which I thought was cool.

How could I not go to a bar called Honky Tonk on 4th of July weekend? It seemed almost criminal not to head to a place with a small-town-bar, faux-wooden exterior and a name like that!

I was a little less excited when I actually walked in to Honky Tonk. I went with my girlfriend who was, in turn, meeting a few people at the bar. Her friends always raved about the place, since they live nearby. Everyone gets attached to their local place, but I was not very impressed.

There's nothing wrong with Honky Tonk; the beer selection is nice, it wasn't too crowded, and the clientele was a nice mix of non-douchey groups of people. I expected a place called Honky Tonk to be, you know, a Honky Tonk, but once you walk it becomes pretty clear it's followed that "this is what a bar should look like" formula you find pretty much everywhere else. Nothing I can complain about, nothing great.

I don't judge a place (except in exceptionally atrocious circumstances) on one visit though, and it seems the food is the real strong suit here. I promise to go back hungry.

I was immediately wary of a place called "Honky Tonk", BUT, the only "honky tonk" thing about it was the food and the decor. Went here two nights in a row when I was visiting my friend. First night we sat at a table, second night we sat at the bar.. and a group of How I Met Your Mother style woo girls (cowboy hats and all) came in but fortunately kept their woos to a minimum.

Food: Reasonably priced standard Tex Mex fare; cheese quesadilla is $8, filling, and comes with big dollops of sour cream, guac, and salsa. Wait staff is attentive, no problems!
Drinks: Angry Orchard on tap, tried the Huckleberry Finn special which was solid, $5 frozen margarita is sort of like a tequila-infused slushie but is made strong, the bartender was friendly and knew what he was doing (and cute, too, just throwing that out there).
Music: Mostly country which I personally dislike, but when we arrived early Saturday (7pm ish) they were playing an awesome Pandora station with Death Cab, Of Monsters & Men, etc. type music.

Overall, a good bar, 3 TVs if you want to watch a game, and casual atmosphere. Oh, and the bathrooms were really nice, too!

Love this place! Came here for a group outing, and it was perfect for what we were after. Good amount of seating, an arcade game, and good food, including lots of options such as wings, tex-mex, other bar food. Vibe is country (obviously), with country music playing nonstop.

The food:
Mac and Cheese with Bacon- very cheesy with the perfect amount of bacon. Very large serving for $9
Buffalo wings- small order for $8 for about 8 wings, your standard fare
Bailou shrimp- a little overcooked, probably wouldn't order this again and stick to the tex-mex
Frozen margaritas- very tasty, on the smaller side, but for $5, served our needs.

Good Bloody Marys, happy hour crowd was fairly mixed, the music could be better but overall it was OK. The service is a little flighty, they'll come around to you eventually.

The bottom line: Honky Tonk is a local pub with reasonably priced food that tastes good.

It's a place where we (my labmates and I) go to grab lunch or to watch soccer games. From the name you'd think it's some kind of cowboy-style bar or something, but it's staffed by Irish bartenders and doesn't feel like that at all. We usually pop off there to grab a beer and a late lunch or watch EU Soccer games.

The staff are friendly and I've had a good time every time I've gone. I don't have anything really special to say about the food except that what I ate there was good. It wasn't outrageously mind-blowing, but it was good (just standard pub fare: think hamburgers, fries, fish n' chips, stuff like that).

Stop in if you're looking for a bite / a soccer game. ;)

Just got done with Brunch and had the worst experience a redheaded woman was bar tending and waiting the tables. We ordered wings and a wedge salad which was mediocre. After our meal was finished we decided to order a waffle that's it. The Bill comes and the waitress charged us 14 dollars for one waffle! Not to mention she charged us for our refills on fountain soda. Which does happen at some places I guess when you are drinking out of a Dixie cup you expect for there to be a refil at no charge. These things probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if the woman was so rude. I work in the industry so if there is one thing I am it's super nice and understanding of people who work in restaurants. This woman was just plain nasty. This was by far my worst experience at any restaurant in NYC.

I'm always looking for a great happy hour experience, and for me Honky Tonk didn't really do the trick. First of all, you can only get the specials in the bar area, which isn't very spacious. A margarita for $5 is seemingly a great deal, but their margaritas were a frozen mixture out of a machine into which tequila was added. Not very really my favorite margarita and I've had others with more bang for their buck. I did like the atmosphere, and it didn't clear out immediately after happy hour ended. I will probably go back to try out the food, but it's not high on my list.

I came here a couple weeks ago I guess. I came with my friend who lives in the area and told me about the place.

The have a bunch of beer including Chimay and Delirium which is suprising for this style of place but I'm not complaining.

The highlight were the ribs, which were outstanding. Also the cornbread was really good. The mac&cheese was lack luster.

Definitely a good place to go to grabs drinks and BBQ.

Honky Tonk is a pretty cool neighborhood bar, although it isn't really anything to write home about (not that anyone writes home these days anyway).

The bar is a good size and doesn't get too crowded, which is definitely a plus. They serve pretty good pub and Tex Mex food. The place doesn't always feel clean enough to be serving food, but they pass their inspections, so I guess we shouldn't judge on looks.

The beer selection is okay and the happy hour is solid - $4 PBR tall boys and $1 off pretty much everything.

It's not a place to go if you're looking for high quality anything, but if you want some greasy, but not sickening, food and some reasonably priced drinks, then it's a good spot.

It also has some pretty interesting decor, as it is trying to be authentically south, so there's the novelty factor. Finally, the staff is always very friendly. If I could give it a 3.5 I would, but alas it will have to suffer with a solid 3.

After eating at Park Avenue, all we wanted were cheap drinks.

Pulled out my handy Yelp app...

HONKY TONK. First on "nearby bars". HONKY TONK.

"So there's this place called honky tonk--"

Beth V. replied with a solid "YES." before I finished speaking.

After my beer and her vodka, we concluded that there was nothing honky tonk about this place. I just like saying HONKY TONK.

Maybe next time if we're hungry enough, we can go for their fried oreos or banana pudding.

I'm gonna go into the cowgirls room, excuse me.

Good, solid bar, and it wasn't grimy (like some of the other bars in the area). It was a good place go meet friends and catch up.

This place is horrrrrible. We asked for jaeger bombs and got premixed shots. We didn't even get a half glass of redbull and we were charged $10 for it! And then the waitress even put a 20% gratuity! And she took 20 min to get our check and process our bill. Worst place I've ever been to my entire life. It's such a dead boring bar too. Wayyy overpriced for a craphole.

Fun bar! They have decent happy hour specials and they play a great selection of cheesy & non-cheesy country music. My main complaints are that the bathrooms were a little iffy, and the food just isn't ANYWHERE near as good as it is in some other NYC Texas themed bars, such as Hill Country or Zirzamin.

In another life, I lived on the UES. 70th and 1st. The loudest street in NYC. Anyways, being from Colorado I missed walking into a bar, sitting down, and not talking to anyone and just listening to country. Found it. The great thing is, this isn't just some sort of a gimmick to make transplants feel better. It really is a local for a lot of folks and it became mine for a while. They make you feel at home. Order a tall boy of PBR and a cheap shot of whiskey and play Montgomery Gentry - You HAVE my attention. They even have pretty good bar food.

I once recall being with a friend and a Ex Marine - Completely Racist - Now a Children's book author came up to us and was being a complete creep! ha ha only in New York.

Do go here. Its fun.

Perfect place to go for some midday drinking (who doesn't partake in that?). their$5 margaritas were strong. Had coconut and strawberry. Very good. the other girls enjoyed their beers and wine. Nobody wanted to eat but wants the guac and chips came out everyone took a bite..and kept eating! $3 tacos (had the pork) really good. My friend also liked the fried okra.

Staff is very friendly. Our waitress made some good recommendations on food. Cowboy-theme is well done here.. Oh the ladies room is super girly.

Will certainly revisit...

A few friends and I came to the Western-themed Honky Tonk Tavern on Sunday for some afternoon football and lunch. Although the front bar space is small and narrow, there's a seating area in the back, and they really hit it out of the park with the bucket/pitcher specials and their RIBS!

Upon sitting down, Jackie (who ended up being quite possibly one of the friendliest Irish dudes ever) offers us a round of waters while we navigated the menu. Normally, I'd think twice about veering away from the typical bar menu at a dive-y spot like this, but after seeing so many others chowing down on the ribs, we ended up with a set of our own. For fluids, we split a bucket of five beers for $14. The ribs were EXCELLENT - braised and extremely soft, with just a touch of sauce, but still nice and juicy. Later on in the afternoon, I ordered a steak quesadilla (pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_…) stuffed with a healthy portion of marinated steak, and lots of gooey, melted cheese! The included sides were even good too, with some sour cream, a nice chunky guacamole and a spicy pico de gallo (with lots of fresh cilantro!) topping off the meal. At $12, it was a bit small, but definitely quality over quality on this dish.

Again, service was top notch - Jackie was quick to handle all the orders, dish out utensils, and clean up empty plates and bottles as we finished them. The decor, complete with horseshoe doorknobs, a wall-mounted skull, and other western artifacts give the whole place a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend Honky Tonk for those looking for a cozy spot, good food, plenty of TVs, and friendly service!

Love this place. From the great beer selection to the great southern food. You get a wide range of different people in there too, not insanely busy so a great chance you'll get a seat up at the bar.

This place is absolute bullshit....they need to go out of business ASAP. They are rude, racist and over priced. They sat us in the back like it was 1925 because we were colored.

This has turned into my favorite neighborhood bar. Between the wings, bacon Mac and cheese, country music, and $5 frozen margs, this place is the best bang for your buck. They also have a pretty decent beer selection.

Bars changed around so quickly on the upper east, I only hope it stays for a while.

Really like this place. The bartenders are awesome, drinks are okay but cheap. The food is goooood. I'd recommend abuela's chicken soup. It's delicious and a little spicy.

Becky's was good in its own way, so I was sad when it closed down and a bit skeptical when Honky Tonk opened. I'm not particularly a fan of the new decor, probably still bemoaning the old Becky's times. However, the super-friendly bartenders make up for it and make me feel welcome. Honky Tonk is great for watching soccer any time of the day and I love their happy hour, which most of the times turn into happy hours...

I cannot say much about the food. I had a burger once and it was satisfying. They have two rooms in the back, which is great for groups. I once made a reservation for the smaller room in the back for the Champions League Final, which fits 10-15 people. Everything went well and they didn't even ask me for a deposit, really nice! Note that it got really crowded during the actual match, which makes this touch even more appreciated.

Solid joint. Fair amount of beers on tap. The food we got was decent (chicken tacos with rice and beans and the guac and chips were good, fried pickles were average). Service was great on a down night. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely go back.

Attention all Texan transplants in NYC: You've got a great new local bar to call all your own. Let's discuss...

The Decor:
They definitely did a great job bringing a taste of the Lone Star State to this Upper East Side bar. Whiskey barrels, swinging saloon-style doors, giant lone stars, wagon wheels. They got it.

The Drinks:
Watermelon margaritas, PBR, pina coladas. Yum! They don't carry Tito's Texas Handmade Vodka ... yet.

The Nibbles:
Mexican street corn? HELLO - why don't more bars offer elotes???

The Service:
This is where Honky Tonk Tavern pretty much won me over. We strolled in kinda late in search of a post-dinner drink - but ended up there til about 4am. Whoops. The bartender (think his name was Paul ... or Bryan), an Irish lad, kept pouring us shots of whiskey. "Drink. You're Irish now." Wow - mixing Texans with the Irish = serious drinkin'.

Where do I even start?? This is a fantastic neighborhood spot!

Service: Super-friendly bartenders and cute, down-to-earth waitresses in cowboy boots.

Food: I'm obsessed with the fried pickles with the spicy ranch sauce. And the pulled pork sandwich. And the mexi-chicken tacos. And the flautas. And the house-cut fries. And the cornbread truly is "a little bit of heaven and a little bit of hell yea".

Drinks: They're always coming up with great seasonal cocktails and always have a great tap selection.

Walked into this bar because i Heard one of my Favorite YYY Songs playing from the outside. I had no idea what to expect. The Bartender Sheena Greeted us i was undecided on what to drink so she made me her signature not yet named Cocktail. Yumm!! All i know is that it had vodka and pinapple and that 2 for 1 deal had me feeling right. at the end of the night. I recommend the Combo sampler if you want a bite to eat it comes with fried pickles, Wings, Chimchangas, and Flautas. All were very goood.. For a Honly tonk bar i was expecting it to be ALL country all day. The music was pretty random the whole time i was there. Overall Very Good, i will be back

The locals own this bar. If there's a game on that they like, or a song on they don't like, it's loud with hoots, hollars or boos.

Still searching for my local pub. This one gave me hope, but no such luck.

I gave it three stars, because most of the music the locals bood was really good, classic rock. Also, the bartender - female, dark brown, very curly hair - made great drinks.

Still, instead of being told to shut up, she preferred the regulars. That's the way it works when working for tips.

BBQ food isn't too oily,
_ CAT FISH = dry, good w/BBQ sauce, came with Chipotle sauce
_ FRIED OKRA = chose as my side: dry, not too oily
_ CORN BREAD = yum.
_ CHICKEN SOUP = big portion, tasty
_ PULLED PORK SANDWICH = "Bread needs more pizazz," says friend who ordered it.
_ MAC & CHEESE = pretty good
_ CAJUN CHKN SANDWICH = "Would get it again," says mi amigo who ordered it.

I want to like this place, I really do. The reviewer that said this place is having an identity crisis nailed it. I am not quite sure what they're going for. If you want to be a country bar, then be one. You can't be a country bar and an Irish pub at the same time. The margaritas are delicious and the bartender Jackie is great. But the atmosphere is weird. They used to play country music which is why I went there in the first place. But lately I have to play it myself on the jukebox.

A new spot with something of an identity crises. I snuck in one afternoon for the happy hour. Two for one, $6 buck well drinks. The bar itself was a dark deep polished black thing, obelisk like. And there were a few chrome or silver polished accents, items one wouldn't expect to find in a "honky tonk". This place looks half Darth Vader half Hank Williams. Amongst the shiny objects, hangs above your head, at the bar a wagon wheel chandelier? Yup. I could see Vader being a Boxcar Willie and Johnny Cash fan and opening up a bar like this after the Empire gig fizzled out, incognito.

They have PBR on tap. The happy hour makes things cheap and interesting. And the guac with chips is a great snack. The chips are lousy school cafeteria brand but the guac was tasty and plentiful. They should make their own chips.

They also have Pimm's No.1 which is a rare site. But they don't have cucumber or ginger beer. Why the hell do you have Pimm's but not the ingredients to make a Pimm's Cup? Ginger ale will work but its much better with ginger beer. And no ginger beer means no "Dark n' Stormy". Somebody dropped the ball here.

Vader should find his bar manager's lack of competence disturbing.

I was super excited to walk in and discover one of my buddy bartenders from Baker St had opened up Honky Tonk. WAY better than Becky's - which, besides the live music, basically just took the overflow from Baker St.

Southern BBQ/Tex Mex/Mexican food, extensive drink &beer list. Cool decor & atmosphere. My ONLY bone to pick is why CASH ONLY. I will probably go there less simply because of this. I am definitely a slave to my amex.

Aaamazing sports bar! This is the sports bar for the girl, the guy, large groups, small groups, and even just a party of two. Food is awesome - with a Tex-Mex bbq flair. I tried fried green tomatoes and fried okra for the first time. The menu also has fried pickles and fried oreos for dessert, but I had to give my arteries a break and held off on those. Margarita menu is creative. The space isn't huge, but there are quite a few tables and one large communal table in the middle and a semi-private area in the back. We came with a large party for the NFC championship game on Sunday, and the waitresses were very accommodating to our large, and sometimes obnoxious group. It is cash only, so don't forget to hit the ATMs before visiting Honky Tonk! I just wish I discovered Honky Tonk earlier in the football season!! :)

This place is great. And in addition to the pulled pork sandwich, you have got to try the ribs. They have a smoker and smoke the ribs for 12 hours and then put this granny-smith apple-based sauce on the ribs which is amazing. I would ask for a little cup of the basting sauce just so you can add it to the ribs as you indulge. I kind of want some right now.

Plus, there's a great vibe here. Friendly bartenders and waitstaff and not too many TVs, which I prefer. Also, there's always decent music on. Overall, they did a great job with this place.

Great new addition for the neighborhood! Frozen margaritas are excellent, 20+ beers on tap and a countless selection of bottles including a specialty list with all kinds of intoxicating goodies!

So far I've only had the pulled pork sandwich and the beer can chicken, both were awesome! The beer can chicken is a steal at 15$ with a nice sized bird 2 sides and a corn muffin. I have heard from numerous people that the chicken fried steak is also ridiculously good! That will definitely be my meal next time I come for a visit.

Service is good and staff is super friendly. All the girls wear cowgirl boots and either low cut jeans or skirts for your viewing pleasure.

As someone who used to come here every now and again when it was Becky's I can tell you the difference is beyond night and day with what they have done with the atmosphere in this space! So if you live in the hood or are just passing through it, I definitely recommend this place for a fun time, some great BBQ and mind altering beverages.

I am sure all the regulars from Baker Street know that Jackie just opened this bar but if you don't know who he is then rest assured that he is one of the best and most friendliest bartenders in the city. They have an excellent selection of beers on tap and in bottle and a dangerously good liquor selection. I have a serious hangover right now from trying one too many tequilas. Also... JUKEBOX! I think I may have annoyed everyone with weezer songs last night so sorry if you were there. Fun, friendly, new neighborhood bar.
