My buddy and I were in The City and we wanted some drinks, and since we're beer aficionados, we had to try the 'authority' on our favorite beverage. As we expected there was a pretty good variety of beer both on tap and bottled. We also got some sliders since we were hungry. Sliders were about $10 and included fries. Beer prices were in the $8 range on average, not many below that and some even more pricey. You have to expect as much from Manhattan. I was in a similar beer joint in Australia that also had a pricey beer menu, but they had an even more extensive selection.

My big knock on this place was the atmosphere. We were in on a late Thursday night. There was a live DJ (and pretty bad at that) playing hip hop and the like. He still had his training wheels on. The crowd was half regular dudes like us, and half business-y looking folks. Service was also pretty slow considering it wasn't super busy. Not what we were expecting at all from a restaurant/bar like this. If I was back in Manhattan, might stop in during the day for a beer I feel like I can't find elsewhere, otherwise pass.

I would actually give this place negative 5 starts if possible. It looks nice, and has a good idea. However, those who run this establishment are nothing but cocky, ignorant low lives. Waited way too long to get a beer at the bar, and when I did I could barely understand the disgruntled older guy who served it to me. Im sorry I was ordering a beer at a bar... the hostess, who sent us in circles for about a half hour, asking other tables to get up and moving us 3 or 4 times before we were finally squished into a table for 4, when we were 6. I asked to speak to the manager several times but they never showed their head, nor did the hostess ever come back to see how we were doing after the horrible first impression was made. usually these things can be amended but she didnt even seem to care. THEN my friend actually got food poising from the spare ribs (odd asian influence for an irish pub type place) and when she called back the next day no one even cared, nor called her back when she AGAIN asked to speak to a manger. after dinner we ran from our squished table, to try to get drunk at the bar and leave as quickly as possible. My friends got hit on, by who i was told was ONE OF THE OWNERS!!!! who then turned out to be a dick when we didnt want to sit and drink with him all night. over all, a horrible experience and these people should go back to running hole in the wall places. they do not belong in times square, or new york for that matter.

I wanted to love this place SO MUCH because I have passed it a million times and it always sounds like the best place for a beer-at least because the name suggests that.

HOWEVER, I WAS PROVED SO WRONG

Upon arrival to the rooftop (one of the main reasons I even wanted to try this place) we were ushered away from the bar as there was a private party, so we got shoved in the corner and were offered the consolation prize of table service. While there was nothing wrong with the table service, the end of our encounter is why I am REALLY writing this review.
After requesting the bill, the waitress could not have snatched it off the table any faster and then basically threw it back on the table. As we were standing up to leave she came back, opens the bill folder, looks at her tip and the following scenario unfolded:

waitress:  "we don't accept coins"  (and by coins she's referring to quarters-not even small coins that actually ARE annoying, not to mention there were also bills in the folder as well)
    my friend: "Wait what?"
waitress: " WE DON'T ACCEPT COINS"
my friend: "well it is still money so please take it"
waitress: DUMPS THE COINS INTO A CUP ON OUR TABLE AND STORMS OFF

I was dumbfounded, if you are too good for coins that is not my problem- plenty of people in the city would be happy to even be getting money.  I thought that was an extremely inappropriate way to handle the situation and because of this waitress (who's name I never got) I will never go back there because apparently my money is not good enough.

Do not go here with a group of people. I am just now leaving after spending almost $400 with co workers and we were told we were being too loud in a bar. Ridiculous! We do not understand why we were singled out in a loud bar with music and they were not been busy. The entire situation was handled poorly and we did not appreciate being singled out for reasons unknown. Do not come here!

Beer and food go pretty well together. Especially when the bartenders are funny, the beer is plentiful and the food makes you want to yell at your priest.

NYC's Beer Authority has all these things (and cider and booze and clean bathrooms).

The bacon-wrapped chicken... Holy crap! I hear the wild boar sausage is damn tasty, too.

I stopped in with some friends to grab a beer. The place was empty since it was early in the day. I ordered a Bayou Teche LA 31 Passione. It was served promptly and was delicious. The staff wasn't super friendly nor were they rude. There was just no interaction other than the service of our beers and I'm not used to that sitting at an empty bar.

Oh this place.... Let me say that I base a lot of my reviews on service over anything. As most of us do, I work hard for my money and when I spend it I want to have at least satisfactory service.

I was here during a busy weekday (few weeks ago?) and sat on the second floor bar. They have a huge beer selection and the one girl was pretty attentive to my needs and answered all my questions. Until I got to the guy. What a d*ck. I was asking for recommendations for a lighter beer and just the way he talked to me, the vibe I got was like "if you don't know anything about beer you shouldn't be here". So I walked upstairs to the rooftop and was shocked to see how nice it was. Ordered a beer and sat down at a table. I asked for an ashtray to smoke and was told by the waitress there's no smoking. I asked why as it was outside she said "you just cant". Um ok.
I didn't even finish my beer. I felt so unwelcomed I just got up and left. Saw a bar on the first floor(completely missed it the first time walking up) and thought about sitting down for one more drink. Ha! I took one look at the crowd and couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was trash. It looked like what you'd expect in Hell's Kitchen at 4am posted up shop there waiting for their tambourine man to come and give them a fix. And the bouncer was reading the paper.

    So to sum it up:
First floor bar- dingy ragged looking crowd
Second floor- family restaurant with rude service
Third floor-relaxed oasis that won't allow smoking.
The vibes are all wrong! Definitely a place I won't be back to.

We stumbled upon the Beer Authority while visiting in NY and noticed the rooftop dining area.  After enjoying a late lunch in their roof top dining area, we returned a few more times for a late night meal.  The food, service and beer were good.  On our last visit and night in NY, our waiter, Sebastiani, was exceptionally pleasant and welcoming, seeing we were visitors from SF following the Giants during their recent series against the Mets and Yankees. The option of outside/roof top dining is always a plus especially on a warm fall day or evening. It is conveniently located near, but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Times Square.

First off, the location sucks as its right next to port authority.

The place is too crowded, noisy and disorganized

Beer selection is pretty broad, but not nice enough when u name the place Beer Authority

Food and service are so so.

If you end up living or working around here, then its ok. Otherwise would not go here.

Nice bar and rooftop. Good location for tourists and commuters. The beer on tap is usually good. However, overpriced for that area. Tourist trap but it has so much potential if the made tweaks like happy hour pricing, brunch rooftop parties, etc.

I haven't had the food but heard that it was average pub grub.

They don't let throw things off the roof. Until that changes I will not be coming back.

I wanted to love this place.  Close to my work, rooftop patio, great beer selection.  But I've been 3 times now and just can't warm to it. The service is SLOW.   We've waited fifteen minutes to even order a beer.  The food is fine, but nothing special. And sadly, the atmosphere is really lacking. It's a massive, loud, open concept room that's just noisy and FULL of dudes. The ratio must be like 5:1 men to women.  Nothing wrong with that it just gives the place a real bro-frat vibe which isn't what I'm looking for in an after work drinking hole.  It feels like a sprawling suburban sports bar rather than a Hell's Kitchen spot

    mixed drinks were pretty strong.
good service, but a bit slow -especially since it was pretty empty.
liked the second floor cause we got to sit next to the window.
    incredibly spacious.

I think I would like this bar more if their happy hour included more drafts on their 69 on tap, 77 bottles, 12 cans OH MY GOD look at the world menu! I ended up with just getting a BluePoint Blueberry Ale and a Victory Prima Pilsner. I'm pretty sure I've had both before so I'm non impressed and it was either one of those or I was getting a Hoegaarden. Long exhale. But some of their more unusual and unique beers sound great if you want to pay full price! It's a suck you in trap.

I will admit their food does sound tasty and I didn't get any here because my friend was coming in from Penn Station and we were with other people that just moved back to New York so staying put sounded lame. But if I were to come back, they have wild boar sausage, braised brisket sandwiches, a mac and cheese that sounds pretty amazing with truffles, and oddly enough Shepherds and chicken pot pie.

There are 3 floors to the place that get crowded fast. So hurry on over after work. I believe the top floor is only for canned beer because its a roof top in midtown. The middle floor is the busiest. Unfortunately, my friend had issues here because the waitress came back with the wrong credit card with the same last name and owing to that it was the exact same type of card she wandered off with another dude's card. WHO DOES THAT?! I mean, who gives away the wrong card to someone and gives a girl a dude's card?! They fortunately still had my friend's card up at the bar when we came back a few hours later. But that blew to realize this later in the night. And graciously, I will admit, the bartender/hostess did offer to comp her next visit there. I'll probably up my rating of the bar next time I go if the beer selection for happy hour is better and after trying the food.

Kay, gonna start my review for Beer Authority with what I left as my tip because I think all the info in it is pertinent to this establishment:

Soooooooo many beers! 81 on tap, 102 bottles and 10 cans right now - ALL DIFFERENT!!! Awesome roof top area too. Get here early if you can for happy hour cuz it gets packed!

    _______________________________________________________________

    Now for my actual review:

Beer Authority is pretty much New York's very own (non-retail) beer mecca. Manhattan doesn't boast many beer gardens with superfluous beer options so this would be it.

Located in a rather crappy part of midtown that at least lends itself super close to transportation that can get you to a better part of town, Beer Authority is a super spacious 3-level beer lover's paradise.

The first floor (ground level) is quite intimate, dim and a little European pub-like. The second floor is much more spacious with a large bar area and lots of seating for folks who just want to drink (think round wooden tables and tall bar stools) or people in larger groups (or small groups) that want to eat in an actual dining area.

The upstairs portion is a rooftop area that's surprisingly quite nice. Glasses and beer bottles are not permitted so they have a menu of beer cans to slurp on while you're there.

I sat in on a bar stool in the main bar area on the 2nd level for a bit as I tried an interesting wheat ale I'd never tried and another deliciously light and tart lemon cider which apparently had 5-6% alcohol, not terrible for a cider.

Then my friends arrived and we were moved by the friendly hostess to a larger table that seated my party of 4. I had a tab already started at the bar, but the waitress promised to connect the two and I asked her to not run my card until I knew what the total was in case I preferred to pay with cash...mmmkay.

Beers were had and we then decided to move somewhere else to eat and continue drinking since two of my friends were back from living in Costa Rica, one of them had been in NY, and in America in general, for his first time EVER so we wanted to provide an all encompassing NYC drinking experience and bar hop a bit...

I asked our waitress to bring me back my card and that I was going to pay cash. She brought me back my blue Visa, I paid with cash - *boom* transaction completed, everyone had fun - easily a 4.5 star experience and I was planning on coming back to try the braised brisket & bacon sandwich and some other type of food offering since their menu looks delectable...cheers all around...OR SO I THOUGHT.

After getting $1 pizza, going to a kinda crappy midtown west Irish Pub and then picking up a new pal off her travel bus from Maryland - we went to Brother Jimmy's (since it was close to the bus stop) to continue drinking...I went to get my credit card so I could start a tab and realized that THE BLUE CHASE VISA IN MY HAND WASN'T MINE AND THAT IT BELONGED TO A MAN NAMED ODIN WHO ALSO HAD MY SAME LAST NAME...so not only was I given the a stranger's credit card, but I'm apparently now a man AND I'm scared that my credit card was also given to someone else.

Sure, you're probably thinking that I should have checked my credit card before leaving Beer Authority, but after a few beers and seeing a credit card that's the same color, bank and type (VIsa) as my own I just popped it in my wallet and called it a day.

After calling them twice because I lost connection the first time (that or I was hung up on, I mean who knows right?) they were finally able to track down my credit card to still chilin' on the bar of the 2nd floor - right where that awesome bartender (I mean that, she was really cool AND a ginger to boot!) had first placed it.

Really sucked having had to bring a group of friends with me to head back uptown to Beer Authority when we were heading to Brooklyn next...Addie, the hostess was super friendly and apologetic.

I'm more mad at their waitress more than anything, I mean my being a woman probably means I don't have a man's name - with things like fraud and identity theft rampant - people in service-related industries should be much more careful with these things, of course I did nothing dishonest with this stranger's credit card, but not everyone is me.

I was just happy that my credit card was safe and back in my possession. I'll be back some day because the hostess promised to comp me some food/drinks on my next visit and because I did enjoy their beer and want to try their food.

All this drama though took my Beer Authority Experience from 4.5 stars down to 3. I'll be sure to report back if my feelings change after a second round with them...

Great beer selection with lots on tap and many more in the bottle.  Our group split several apps for dinner.  The deviled eggs were very good, the wings and nachos were OK and the pierogis seemed to be the ones I buy in the supermarket. I'd go back for the beer but I'd keep the food order to a minimum.

Let's call this a 3.5. Clean, spacious, great for those "grab everyone you can on your way out of the office" happy hours. Service is pretty meh, but hey, it's a bar right next to Port Authority. Decent beer selection. I wasn't expecting much at all, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I do appreciate the bouncers at the door keeping the riffraff out. And there is quite a lot of riffraff on Eighth Avenue.

The sister bar to Rattle N Hum.  The beer selection is as big as R&H but the bar isn't quite as "cool".

Draws a decent business crowd right after work.  Probably one of the best craft beer selections in all of Manhattan.  On par with Rattle N Hum and Blind Tiger.

The food is just okay, but the beer makes up for it.

What can I say other than, they have Super Yummy Beer!

The place was clean, and the air conditioner felt great and the food was great too! In a million years I'd never thought there be a decent place in NYC to get a beer!

So one good thing, as soon as you get off the train, you walk a few blocks and BOOM! your there! One bad thing, dorkie tourist  :- /

I stopped in here for a drink while waiting for a friend's bus to arrive. I had a beer recommended by the bartender after he asked what I like and let me taste the summer ale apricot.

The crowd was a somewhat interesting mix of professionals who likely work in the area, as well as tourists who stumbled in for a drink and people waiting for buses.

I never made it further than the bar, but I could tell this place is huge! I can't image making a date with a friend here, but if I were in the area with time to kill, I'd come again.

Excellent beer selection.  Also the way they organize the beers on the menu is informative and helps make drinking feel like a learning experience.  The food is decent.  But really the beer selection is the draw and also what keeps me coming back.  And for its location (the dark heart of Times Square), it's a great place - cause where else are you going to go?  Heartland Brewery?  Ugh.

The down side?  It's basically the wal-mart of great beer.  They have everything, but the music couldn't be more generic.  90's and classic rock playlists.  Also I've been there probably 20 times and not once have I ever gotten a buy-back from the bar tender.  I mean, you can't expect hand outs in life, but it speaks to the massive faceless nature of the place.

But really.  Beer selection - that's why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3.

I visited Beer Authority for the second time last night, and once again the rooftop was closed for a private party.  The food is fine, nothing too exciting, not bad, but not great either.  Its nice that there are so many beers to choose from, but the place gets so crowded that you can't hear anything except the loud music and loud talking people.
I guess I'd go when the weather is not nice since it likely wouldn't be as crowded then.

    Personally, I LOVE Beer Authority.

First, the name is awesome.  Second...they are true to their name.  This place is all about the beer.  What beer drinker could resist?
I came here with my buddy before a Ranger game.  It's about an 8 block walk up from Penn and The Garden.
We sat at the bar on the second floor...beautiful place...stunning, yet comfortable, with excellent views.
There's over 90 beers on tap, and even more in bottles.  There are entire menus dedicated to beer, and they list the ABV right next to each.

Now, all this gushing about the golden nectar o' the gods could possibly imply that they are compensating for unremarkable food.
That couldn't be further from the truth.  The food here is EXCELLENT.  We had the Pork Tacos...really really good.  They came out and looked almost as good as they tasted.  We also had wings, just because wings and beer...you almost have to, and they hit the spot as well...but I have to give the edge to those pork tacos.
The rest of the menu looked really good, but we didn't eat much else, because we hit a few other places before the game.
But everything we had was great, and what we saw other people eating really looked amazing as well.

I know some people have complained about service in their reviews, but at the bar, we weren't ignored at all, and really never waited for anything.  I can't speak for table service, but the bar service was great.

If you're in the area, and you love beer...definitely hit up Beer Authority.  It's a beer lover's paradise.

A great spot to stop for a beer if you are in the Times Square / Port Authority neighborhood.  When you first walk in, all you see is a small wood-paneled bar area on the ground floor - walk upstairs and you get to the main bar area (which is huge), and during warm weather they have a rooftop area open.  I haven't been to the roof yet but from the street it looks like a good spot.

As the name suggests, they have an extensive list of beers both on tap and by the bottle, plus the usual spirits and wine choices (though if you're not drinking beer, I don't see why you'd come here).  I've been here a couple of times, and have always found the service to be friendly and efficient, and the beers good.

This is definitely a place built to handle crowds (which means lots of TV's, seating options, and other patrons).  It tends to get jammed after work and during gametime.

I came here with Joe M. to pre-party on a Saturday night. Overall, it is a pretty cool spot with lots of TVs and perfect if you love beer. They have a pretty diverse menu, but we didn't try any of the food and just went there for drinks.

What warranted this place only 2 stars however was their complete lack of interest in us. There weren't that many patrons there, and we were sitting at the half empty bar for goodness sake. You would think they would notice us. We had to flag them down every time we wanted a drink and each time they seemed so uninterested and unfriendly. Plus it wasn't just one server that was this way, it was at least three of them that were so rude and unhelpful.

It's unfortunate because this might be a cool spot for a group happy hour or to hang out with some friends for food and drinks. I won't be back though because the service ruined it.

Came here to pre-party on a Saturday night.  Not a big fan.  The drinks are reasonably priced, but we had to continuously flag a bartender down although the bar wasn't crowded and we were sitting AT THE BAR.  Once they finally noticed us, they seemed uninterested in helping us (there were 2 bartenders and both were the same).  I would have given this place 2 stars but the bathroom attendant (not sure why they have one, it's not that type of venue) made up for their attitudes by being pleasant herself.

Don't think I'll come back if I don't have to.

HUGE venue located in a terrible area.  but somehow it doesn't attract the crazies near around port authority.  Very calm chill packed house but plenty of tables available.  Service is friendly and relatively quick.  Windows can open up around the entire bar which brings in a nice breeze and people watching.

beer selection is just as good as rattle and hum their sis restaurant.  food is standard bar food.

the fries could be crispy, temperature fried was not right.  could also use more flavor, salt, pepper.

chicken wings are huge in size but not crispy if that's what you are expecting.

sliders and standard and pretty flavorful with hint of herbs.

liked the freshly made potato chips from long strips of potato.

definitely good place to go if u're stuck in that area with no good ideas!

I take the bus into Manhattan almost daily and I have been eyeing this place for the past 2 years wondering - what is it like in there?  Is it awful, I bet it is dirty and it gets a creepy crowd....I wonder...Really, I thought I would never go because I imagined it was pretty sketchy like the rest of 8th Ave in that area.

That was until someone from work planned a happy hour there.  I was like really, Beer Authority?  The woman who planned the HH said she knew of some friends who said it was good.  Ok, I agreed to try it out - the suspense was killing me.

The other members of our party arrived before me.  I walked in and was carded - which gave me a sense of security - this means they have some standards.  There is a nice small bar downstairs.  There wasn't really anyone at the bar so I guess the party is upstairs?

I wen upstairs to the second floor and WHHHHAAAATTTT???!!! Was shocked!  Huge, bright, airy interior, and young (non sketchy) crowd!  I grabbed a seat at the table with my co-workers.  They were eating and they tell me the food was delish!  It looked good and was definitely a step above standard bar food.  I did not eat though, as I was eating elsewhere afterward.

My large complaint was that it took FOREVER for me to get a beer.  By the time it arrived I had to pound it (not like that's such a bad thing) so I would arrive at my next destination on-time.

In a nutshell, I was super surprised and will def go back and try the food at some point.  I will update my review then.

Try it out, just don't be in a rush to leave!

Oh Beer Authority. How I love your roof top bar, but hate the no glass rule (not your fault I admit). How I love your beer selection, but dislike the price and how I can't stand the crowd the middle bar attracts (loud men in cheap suits mostly) but the staff somehow stay charming.

The food is sub-mediocre bar food, so stick to the beer.

I give you 2 (and a half if i could work out how) stars because of your beer garden, to have it at this location often makes my summer day - but please just turn the music down...the cars and buses of port authority will always be heard, no amount of crappy pop is going to drown it out!

The upstairs bar and downstairs bar here are two different worlds. The first time we were here was about a month ago, and upon walking in alone, the bartender immediately greeted me and recommended a suitable beer for my tastes (I like stouts). Usually when I go to a bar I'm ignored for 20 minutes before the bartender gets to me. So that was a welcome change of pace.

My companion soon arrived and we agreed to stay in the downstairs area as we could hear the loud music pounding upstairs and it looked like a brofest up there. Downstairs was like a true Irish pub, with soccer on the TV, wood paneling, and a set of regulars camped out on the barstools. Tony, the bartender, was really friendly and great to talk to. After we were done with beer, he mixed us up some custom drinks that were really delicious. We ordered food through him and it was pretty good (sliders and a hummus plate). We were there much later than we'd planned, simply because Tony was awesome. He told us he'd remember us next time we came in.

We were there again last week but were meeting people upstairs, which was not as bro-ish as before and was OK. Not as good as the downstairs, which was packed. So a few days ago we went back on a Saturday afternoon to see if Tony was there. He was, and he remembered our names AND what we drank. This guy is GOOD. Sure, there are a lot of places around with good beer selections and pub ambience, but Tony really makes this place. Seriously, he's an incredible bartender and a super-nice, genuine guy to boot. I was not surprised at all to search the reviews here and see his name come up multiple times. Tony is a gem of a bartender and 100% the reason why I'll keep coming back.

My cousin and I went here on a Wednesday evening to meet a friend who was visiting NYC. The place is right on 8th Ave, right South of the Port Authority building. Fearing the place is going to be crowded by evening commuter traffic, we got there a little early around 5PM. Also the Happy Hour ends at 7PM, so we figured we will get some good deals on the beer.
They definitely have a good beer selection. However, the Happy Hour beer (marked HH next to the beer) are limited to only 6-7 beers. My cousin wanted to have some Hefeweizen, but they did not have any at the HH price. Anyway, the beer was good, the selection was good and the service was good. We did not eat any food there, so I cannot comment.
    Overall, I recommend this joint.

The selections are great, the waiter was very friendly. The OWNER was a prick. He was really rude and abrupt. The story:
After enjoy a night of beer and bowling we decided to try some other types of beer so we stopped here. Order beer and finished. Of course we were slightly intoxicated and we opened up food that we had left over from before. While reaching for a fry he grabbed our bag and containers off the table and threw them in the garbage.
We would have put the food away if he had told us too. But he just threw it away.
Then we tried to order more beers and he told us to leave and wouldn't even serve us.

This is a pretty nice bar. I would suggest coming here just to drink. I didn't drink but my friends did. They seemed to enjoy their beers...

I gave Beer Authority 3 stars b/c of their bland food. Actually I got a stomachache after eating there, which I was not happy about. This rarely happens unless the food is sketchy.  My friends got burgers and buffalo wings which they said were so-so.

I got fish and chips which I couldn't finish because it just tasted like fried mush. I'm pretty sure the battered fish was frozen b/c it didn't taste fresh at all. How do you mess up deep fried food?? It wasn't even crispy, just mushy and greasy. The fries were also tasteless. For $16, that's pretty pricey for frozen blah. Service was mediocre--the place was pretty empty save 4-5 tables but a few times we had to look for our waitress to order more drinks.

    So stick with the beer.

I was here for the first time last night toward the tail-end of happy hour.  We stumbled upon Beer Authority as my friend and I were searching for a place to have a few beers before going home for the evening. We got there right at 6:55 p.m. - happy hour is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. so I made it just in time. Most of the tables are located on the 2nd floor up a flight of stairs. I saw another flight of stairs going to the third floor which is presumably another dining area, but we didn't go up. The second floor had a complete bar, tons of tables, all surrounded by traditional dark wood décor. There were many LCD's placed throughout the bar and dining areas.

When we were seated, we were presented with a menu for food and another huge paper menu of available beers, which nearly half were imports. Each beer had a small description and also indicated whether it was available as a happy hour beer, marked as "HH" which would cost $5 a pint.  I didn't see a single mass market American beer on that list. Unfortunately, most beers didn't have the "HH" designation, but there were maybe 7 or 8 that did. We were really happy with our choices. I had a pale ale and my friend had a pilsner. By the way, almost all the pints on the beer list were from $8 to $9.

Overall the atmosphere is a youngish, after-work crowd.  Our server was attentive and friendly, unexpected for a bar right across the street from the Port Authority! There is one interesting thing that I observed about this bar and that is the ground level bar. When one walks into that area, you'll see people just drinking and not eating. You'll also see a bunch of people smoking right outside the front door. You might think that this is an old man's bar, but don't let that dissuade you. Just go upstairs and you'll see an entirely different atmosphere and vibe. I really liked it and think you will too! Finally, the only food we had there was freshly made potato chips with ketchup, which were excellent, only $2.95!

    NOT the Beer Authority.

I just came home from Beer Authority and I felt like I was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares/Restaurant Impossible/etc. because of lack of customer service from the owner!

There is a very extensive beer list and this place prides itself on its craft beers... so I expected a great beer experience.  We were there at 2 pm so it was pretty empty and I soon learned it should stay that way.

I ordered a peach beer that was described as a wheat beer. It was disgusting and bitter. It's not that I just didn't like the beer... it tasted nothing like a wheat beer... almost like the wrong beer was served but the waiter assured me it was correct... so maybe something wrong with the beer?!. I asked to have something else and the waiter told me it was policy not to do "buy backs". The waiter was nice about it, but I was surprised for a place that heralds itself as an upscale craft beer restaurant/bar, this was the policy.  When the check came, I was again reminded by the $9 beer on the check that I didn't drink and I wasn't offered any replacement.

I asked for the manager and the OWNER came over and said to me:
"All sales are final...how do you expect me to build a business by taking your beer back".

W-O-W. The OWNER said this!!! I'd like to know how he expects to build a business with customer service like that!!  It's too bad... I'm in mid-town all the time... he got his $9 from me, but lost a lot more than that.  That customer service may work now, but it will catch up.

(for the record, I would never ask for another beer at a TGIF-type restaurant and have never ever sent a beer or any drink back in my life... , but a craft beer restaurant, I did think they would be understanding with a beer that was off)

This place has a few floors. I decided to sit at a table on the second floor.
We had a waitress come serve us beer. The menu is slightly confusing. I had a hard time telling apart the happy beers ($5) and the non-happy hour ones. All of us were confused and our bill came up a bit higher than we expected but it was still ok in terms of price. $8 for a hoegarden... acceptable.
