Not a fan. Went for lunch, got the roast beef po-boy. Super fatty. Service was mind bogglingly slow even though no one was in there. Overpriced too, $14 for a bad sandwich and iced tea, really?

Great atmosphere....loved the wine and veggie paella. Bread was crusty and warm. Salad was really different with grapefruit and avocados. Different is good!  Fun place to eat and visit with friends. Beignets are better than the ones I had in the French quarter last may!

After taking me forever to try this place, I figured since it was still in business it was worth a try. And I'm glad I did! They have done some cool remodeling inside that really has a New Orleans feel to it (minus Mardi Gras junk!) and there are 2 eating areas which keeps each one feeling intimate. They have some very good wines and I was given a free tasting when I couldn't make up my mind! The shrimp bisque is sooo rich but delicious. I did have a hard time finishing a cup though due to the richness. The gumbo was spicy and flavorful. I had the blackened pork chop dinner and my dining companion had the shrimp andouille. My pork chop was pretty salty although not very spicy considering it was blackened. The andouille was very fresh tasting although we expected a bit more sauce. Could be we aren't that familiar with the dish though. Overall it was a very tasty meal and honestly was made more enjoyable by the atmosphere and surroundings. I will return just to enjoy that and try something different from the extensive menu.

We came here with some friends a few weekends ago. I wanted to try crawfish and try crawfish we did. We sat outside and luckily Kelleher's had outdoor music so it was perfect. I had the jambalya which was very tasty! However, when it came to eating the crawfish, I freaked out a little...something about cracking a little creatures body apart to eat it seems wrong..can you tell I'm not a big meat eater? My husband did it for me. He had the red beans and rice which was very good, as did one of our friends. For dessert, I tried the watermelon sorbet--yummy! I love anything watermelon.

I will come here again--it's not every day you find a fun cajun restaurant in Central Illinois!

If you've never been to New Orleans, than I'm sure this will be ok for you. But much like any midwestern attempt at something outside of the local area, it can be very difficult to swing here. I had the jambalaya today and it was fair. Rice was a bit dry and sticky, and the crawfish had less meat and more poo than I care for, but I'm used to getting my cajun food at a place like Deanie's in Louisiana. The jambalaya I had today, along with the red beans and rice I tried at the Taste of Peoria were both very dumbed down for the local palette, as most people here are total wusses when it comes to anything spicy. I judge most of my cajun food on how many napkins I go through both wiping my head and wiping my hands. But, not to be totally critical on this new place, I can say the beignets here are friggin awesome and you may not find any better unless you hit up Cafe Du Monde.

My husband and I had a nearly identical experience as David M S.  on Friday (6/24/11). What they call "paella" was so bland and watery that I could only manage 4 bites of it. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, my husband barely made it to the restroom to deal with his stomach issues from eating the catfish dinner. We will not be returning.

But Richard F. is correct that the atmosphere is cute. The live music on Water Street on Friday nights is especially a treat! However, the music is not actually at Beignet's. It's on the patio next door and can also be enjoyed by patrons of the other restraunts/bars in that area; the whole street is blocked off for people to sit and enjoy the live music.

Interesting little joint. I came on a Friday evening, but it was fairly dead. Still there was live music outside so the patio is a good choice. I got the pork poiboy and my wife the spicy chicken salad.   The service was good and the food was good. Notice I'm saying good. All in all a quaint place, but if it wasn't for the music, you would forget this fast. Give it a try, but Kellehers next door is a better choice as far as selection.

We had a wonderful time here--sat on the patio (they even moved a smoker to keep us happy). A nice rec on wine. Ate red beans & rice. Very different than what one normally gets at a Cajun restaurant, but still tasted good. The grapefruit vinegarette dressing is absolutely delicious.

I had a great lunch here! Service was wonderful and the shrimp bisque was divine.

Paella dish should be re-named. It was just a pile of under-cooked rice and vegetables. Friend ordered double-cut pork chop. He complained of stomach issues upon returning to the hotel.

Did not order desert, but chocolate cake looked good. However, the double-cut pork chop looked good too...
