This can be a very fun experience for children or those whom have never been, because of the active engagement with the chef. The food itself is mediocre. The miso soup is flavorless, and needs additional flavor and salt; it tastes as if the flavor was diluted with water. The salad is good because of the salad dressing. The main entrees need major work. The meats are flavorless and all they add to it is salt and pepper; it needs marinating or some other treatment. The chef sometimes also leaves the items on the grill too long and the meat overcooks, which can cause the meat to be very dry. The sauces they give can help with the dryness, but only from the exterior part of the meat, the inside is still very dry. The customer service is very good.

This is a great place to go to get a mini show and tasty dinner.  It's super fun to go to if you have kids too because they are easily entertained.

This is often a favorite among the birthday crowd. They send out a high value coupon for your birthday if you sign up for their email list so make sure to sign up. The food itself can be expensive, but they usually have specials. However, bday gift coupons can't be used for them. My beau and I got the garden veggie and spicy grilled tofu. The first is completely veggie friendly, and if full of steamed and grilled veggies. Very healthy option. The spicy tofu comes with the shrimp appetizer, but I'm sure you could order it with the tofu appetizer of the former.  Also ordering veggie, or splitting a meat entree and just getting an extra soup and salad is a way to get out of their much cheaper. Also if you want the hot tea that comes with most meal offerings you have to ask for it or they'll assume you don't want it. Overall, a fun experience for those that especially haven't been before.

Used to eat here quite frequently a five or so years ago because it was my sister's favorite place to eat. I would say the food is a little above average (but not anything to write home about). Mostly she loved the entertainment. Since she was coming home from college to celebrate her birthday, we made a reservation a week in advance for the immediate and extended family. We  even called the day before to give our updated number.

The next day we arrived with about two thirds of our party, and the hostess said she couldn't seat us until our entire party was there. We said we understood since we were about 10 minutes early, but we wanted to confirm our table would be ready at the appropriate time. We were a little nervous because the place was clearly packed to the brim, and even the waiting area was pretty full. She said it'd be ready but that we could confirm with her manager.

When the manager came over, he said that there was no way they'd have tables for us 10 minutes from then. We explained we'd made the reservation for a large birthday party, and some of our people had driven over 30 minutes to be here. Not having tables that we reserved well in advance seemed unacceptable. He started yelling at us about how that wasn't their fault and how we needed to be patient! When did it become okay to yell at the customers??? And when did a reservation become something that you only honor if the place isn't already full??? I could see a lot of people had just started their meals. It's not as if we came toward the end of the dinner rush.

Plus we talked to other people in the packed waiting area, and some of them had already been waiting for over an hour. I'm sorry but for overpriced food I expect my reservation to be honored! I strongly recommend to eat somewhere else! The wonderful thing about Sugar Land is there are plenty of great places to eat - Post Oak Grill (if you want a fancier meal), Japaneiro's (great sushi), P.F. Chang's (wonderful atmosphere), Grimaldi's (pizza and the kids are given dough to play with on request), etc.

Went here this past Friday night with my husband. We were expecting to have to wait ~30 minutes or so since we didn't have a reservation, but we got seated immediately.

Upon getting to our table, the waitress came by and welcomed us to the restaurant and asked us what we'd like to drink. Within a minute she was back with the drinks and begun to tell us about the 2/$48 chicken&steak deal they had going on. Since I don't eat steak, we both opted for the spicy hibachi chicken (mine without mushrooms) and 2 orders of chicken fried rice.

She returned with bowls of onion soup. I noticed she didn't put mushrooms in mine and I thought that it was sweet she remembered/took it upon herself to serve mine without them. Unfortunately, the soup wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. However - I'm one of those people that load spices/hot sauce in everything so it could have easily been flavorful to others.

When our table was done with the soup, she brought out some salad for everyone. The sauce was very tangy -  I can't describe it very well. She also made a point to fill everyone's drinks right when they were getting low instead of waiting until they were gone - which we appreciated.

After we were done with the salad, the chef came. The show was AMAZING and very entertaining. We were so mesmerized by everything he was doing that we forgot we were there to eat! :)

He served us grilled shrimp (which I gave to my hubs since I don't eat seafood), grilled onions&zucchini, our chicken fried rice, and our spicy hibachi chicken.

The rice was the best fried rice I have EVER  tasted in my entire life. And the spicy hibachi chicken..don't even get me started with that. The BEST food I've had in my life. It was SO flavorful and the spiciness was just right - not too much or too little. He basically cooked everything to perfection.

After having that meal, my husband and I decided we'll definitely be coming here more often even though it's pretty pricey. It's worth every penny!

Make a reservation if you are going for dinner. The wait on a Thursday night was 45 minutes. Good food, good time, freezing inside so bring a jacket. Our waitress was running a tight ship that night so you better be ready when she is! Fried rice is an additional charge (I must of missed that on the menu).

Went with my sisters to celebrate the New Year last week on a weekday! It was quite busy considering it was a Wednesday. However, there was no wait since we were going for their Happy Hour.

The prices were really decent! There were a lot of other options for under $6. We ordered the the shrimp tempura role for $4.50. It was tasty and filling.  We were not fan of the dumplings, but we did enjoy the hibachi chicken rice!

Overall, it was a fun experience. I will definitely go to their Happy Hour again.

It's a great lunch time venue, the food is good, the staff are friendly and the show they put on is a lot of fun! I particularly love the dressing on the salad :)

Every now and then I get a craving for hibachi grill.  So hubby and I decided to go to Benihana - we haven't been in there for awhile!

Walked in and even though we saw tables available and two waitresses said we could be seated right away, the hostess still told us we had to wait 15 minutes for a table.
Since we were hungry, we didn't want to wait.  Thanked hostess and left.  We were outside of restaurant discussing where we will have dinner when one of the waitresses came out and said we could be seated.

We ordered two appetizers and also the special (which was for 2 people, filet mignon and chicken), plus fried rice.

Service:  The food came fairly quickly.  When we asked to have our tea during the meal instead of at the end.  Our server kept on saying she will bring it, but keeps forgetting.  We also needed another pair of chopsticks and it took a long while to get it.  Once we started eating, the server sort of disappeared and came back towards the end.
Entertainment:  The chef that cooked at our table did not do much tricks.  I remember the chefs used to be more entertaining.  We tried to cheer him on but I guess other guests at the table were not impressed and wasn't paying much attention to the chef.  Maybe he would have done more if he had more of an audience!
Food:  Taste was just average, especially for the price.  We were stuffed, but it wasn't that good!
Verdict:  For me, Benihana used to be synonymous with hibachi grill.  Not anymore I guess.  Next round of craving, we will definitely be trying some other place.

The Wife and I ate here this weekend (Saturday) - it was a pretty good deal. We had the special filet mignon and chicken special for two at $48 for two.

The meal started off with miso soup, shrimp, fried rice, vegetables and filet and chicken. We then ordered ice cream as we thought it came with the meal - think again - it did not, the staff makes it sound like it does but it does not - be warned. A couple sitting next to us stated they always go there and usually it does come with the meal but recently they have been charging for it.

The service itself was pretty good. Drinks were kept filled, clutter was removed, meal was served hot and the hibachi service was on target. Flying vegetables, shrimp, volcano - typical show but entertaining. We were fortunate that the people sitting next to us were nice and fun to be around - not the stuffy type. Also, there were a significant number of birthday parties going on there that night we counted four large groups.

The atmosphere is pretty decent, engaging staff, nice accents etc.

    We would go back.

I guess the high prices don't include flavor. The fried rice was bland. The chicken was bland. The scallops were bland. A couple grains of salt and a few sesame seeds are not cutting it.

Didn't they used to do a show? We got a halfhearted train with the onion tower. But hey- they blew a cheesy whistle! They shaped the rice into a heart, and made a Mickey Mouse with it. Too bad it was severely over cooked... What happened to the volcano?

The only thing my kids liked about their meal was the corn. Even the lemonade was awful...

There are way too many decent hibachi places to waste your time and money here. I was rounding up when I gave them 1 star...

Gotta love the show they put on!

It's fun sitting with other people.
Nice family orientated place most of the time.

There is this older lady who will say hello to guests even if she's not their server, she's always there when we go and it's nice to see someone who genuinely cares about the guests of their restaurant. It's a breath of fresh air.

The food? Not bad at all!

They're not super known for their sushi, but they should be. It's so bomb! They have a happy hour here Mon-Thurs 3-8 pm I believe. The shrimp crunchy roll, las Vegas roll, and the dragon roll are my fav. So good! Definitely try their california poppers. So freakin delicious! The prices for happy hour are VERY pocket friendly. They have very good non-alcoholic drink options. Highly recommend the mango colada! The only cons about this place is the rude and un-attentive staff (they are too busy seating people for the hibachi). The area for happy hour sucks, it's only a few tables or the bar and your seated by the waiting area so people are awkwardly staring at you while you devour your food. Other than that, great sushi!

I first came here a couple of years ago for a Valentine's Day dinner with three other friends. I had never eaten at Benihana so I didn't really know what I was getting myself into.

I like the idea of community seating and my food being prepared right in front of me like a show. However, this wasn't enough for me as the food itself was nothing spectacular. I made the mistake of ordering the hibachi shrimp which was really not a lot of food at all... My friends ended up sharing a bit of their dishes with me as I really didn't have that much food on my plate.

We also went during dinner time, so it was pretty pricey. For the amount of money we paid, we really didn't come out of Benihana satisfied. I'm going to assume all the other locations are similar since I'm not willing to again put down some cash to see if they're any different.

I do, however, would one day like to try out their $25 all you can eat sushi. But for now, there are other hibachi grill places out there that I'm sure are ten times better.

I was in this location this past Saturday for lunch and after the service, I doubt I will return.  The first issue is the menu.  The lunch menu is available, except for the lunch box.  The problem - the menu does not indicate this.  So I ordered the lunch box to be told by the server it wasn't available and to also be told by the manager that it wasn't available.  The manager also went further to say they had asked for menu changes from the corporate office, but that they hadn't been made.  I was very surprised to not have the menu as it was printed honored.  I probably should have left at this point.

Then when our chef arrived, she turned the grill up to hot and was over cooking all items.  There were a total of 3 kids at the table who would have enjoyed the show, but she brought the onions out already cut and did not even do the standard volcano or train that most chefs at this location do.  The steak that we ordered was tough and overcooked.

While we used to be regulars to Benihana, I think we may have to start trying some of the new hibachi grill places that are opening up all over town.

Some friends of mine and I had dinner at Benihana's last night for my birthday.  The food was made right in front of you. I ordered the Hibachi Tuna Steak; the food was bland however when you put soy sauce and the different sauces they gave you, It finalllyyy brought some flavor to the dish. I really expected more flavor for the price we paid. I've been to Hibachi a few times where the prices were better and the food was Much better than this Benihana's. Anyway, as far as the tricks that was done I WAS NOT IMPRESSED! Again i expected more. When  you think of hibachi you think of fire tricks!! Ya, there was none!! They did the onion volcano but instead of fire it was steam that came through the onion!  Ive heard a lot about Benihana's and was really looking forward to an awesome Hibachi experience..... this restaurant really did not meet my expectations. However, I did have a good time talking to my friends that evening.

Are you ever just craving something and have to have it?  Yesterday I was craving hibachi chicken and fried rice.  We went to Benihana but the wait was 90 minutes (silly us, we didn't realize it was high school Homecoming).  Today, we had to go back and satisfy that craving! We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were immediately seated at a grill/table where another family already was (3 adults and 2 kids).  The young children seemed truly freaked out that other people might sit with them at the table.  It's just part of the experience of most hibachi grills, love it or hate it. Of course, we got the usual antics: onion volcano/train, the beating heart of fried rice, and the flying cooking implements.  I was very thankful that there was no throwing of shrimp!

Our food was good, and as usual the fried rice was the best part.  My husband ordered the hibachi chicken and I got the Teriyaki chicken.  I thought my chicken was tough. I am still in sticker shock.  It was a little over $50 for two meals, a soda, and iced tea. We did both get the fried rice which is $3 a bowl.  But still... $50 for lunch.  Holy Cow! This is an itch I'll rarely be scratching.

While there we saw at least 3 different birthdays being celebrated.  It's definitely a staple of this place. I appreciated that they gave the young girls (age 3-5) at our table beginner chopsticks.

Big negative: Pepsi.  Why doesn't everyone just serve Coke?  It's just the right thing to do.  The iced tea wasn't bad as an alternative.

I love Benihana and how they make the food right in front of you.  Its great for groups and very entertaining.  I would suggest going for lunch because it is actually worth the money.  Dinner you are paying for the entertainment and not the food, the food is decent, but you do not get that much.  I like to be full when I leave and a meal here, well.... it's not a lot of food.
