So much talk about this establishment.  Really disappointed started with a maitre d that is a bit cocky .  Whole dining room was empty he sat us in the middle asked to sit on the edge he said all tables reserved we left one hour later all tables still empty.  Lighting really bright not a romantic restaurant.  Ordered soup which was wonderful ordered apps had Nantucket scallops which were small bay scallops in a very bland sauce usually French influenced restaurants have spectacular flavors not so much with this sauce. We did not order anything else we decided to leave and go elsewhere since it just had no ambience.  Our server was super friendly though

Had dinner at Bistro Henry tonight and it was fantastic. We were seated promptly in a nicely decorated and comfortable room.  I had a spinach salad with gorgonzola and dried fruit and the spicy pork jambalaya.  My husband had gazpacho and braised rabbit with pappardelle, which was over the top delicious.  The service was excellent as well.  We would definitely return.

I decided to give Bistro Henry a chance based on all the Yelp reviews. I was actually disappointed. The atmosphere is not what I expected. It was quite dated. The food was definitely not great, compared to other Manchester restaurants. Someone in our party actually had to send his plate back and he didn't even want anything else because he was so unimpressed. It didn't help that our server was cold and seemed annoyed the whole time.

Do not dine out as often as years past, but when I do my husband and I love Bistro Henry's. Always order the Braised Lamb Shank, sooooo good, but last time decided to order something different, the Linguine with Lobster. Absolutely the best, I can't wait for my next visit. Service, always excellent, atmosphere cosy and warm.  R&R

dined there on a recent thursday. slow service, unacceptably bland food. this place wouldn't last a month in any decent restaurant town. when will manchester restaurants realize that just because their business is tourism-dependent doesn't mean they can fob off poor service and worse food?

Went to bistro Henry for New Years eve dinner. Had read mixed reviews but given the limited options in the area gave it a try.

This restaurant was strange. The venue is about 15 years outdated, tables had paper on them an they served breadsticks in plastic wrappers. The menu was full of meals you would expect at a classy establishment, yet the layout and descriptions were those you would expect at ground round.

Even of the food had been out of this world, the prices were very high. We had oyster to start, they were ok, didn't expect much since we are in vt, but the wife loves them so we got a half dozen.  Then we had soup , I ordered the special butternut squash and apple, and they were all out of it, so I decided to share my wife's lobster bisque. It was decent, and the portion was large, but for 10 dollars I would expect at least a couple actual pieces of lobster, rather than the tiny shreds that it had.

For our meals I had the special veal chop, over mashed with truffle butter. The chop was perfect, thick, juicy on the inside, and charred nicely on the outside. The potatoes were awful, bland and the truffle butter was non existent. My wife had the striped bass over rice with a grapefruit buere blanc sauce. She liked it but the actual fish  was very small.

The wine list here is extensive, and we both enjoyed a glass each.

Overall the food was pretty good, but at 38 for a veal chop and 32 for a piece of striper I expect to be blown away... Havnt ate diner anywhere else in Manchester but would try somewhere else if we ever eat there again...

Staff was very nice and attentive but the food was lacking.  Nothing bad but nothing impressive either.  Not worth the ~$30 a plate that we paid.

I didn't have a good experience. My husband and I were seated nearly 30 minutes after our original 8:15 reservation on a Saturday night.  The menu had strange, wanna-be cutsey descriptions of food that would be appropriate at a greasy-spoon diner, not a $30 per plate restaurant. (Description for  soup: Our Really, Really Good Lobster Bisque. Really- 'Nuff said...) We found the service slow and disorganized. We saw a kid who ran around the dining room screaming, and no one stopped him. The waitress we had gave us the most unhelpful food descriptions I have ever heard from waitstaff!

    Me: How is the risotto?
Waitress: It's great, if you like risotto!

My husband: How is the duck here?
Waitress: The duck is fabulous! If you like duck.

I have eaten out hundreds of times in my life and I have never had such uninformative, non committal food descriptions! At that point, we lowered our expectations. As a previous reviewer said, the Mushroom risotto was swimming in oil. When I first saw it, I figured it must be drizzled with some amazing truffle oil! No that would be what a good restaurant would do. This risotto was an eleven dollar fail. I had the rabbit and tagliatelle, and the pasta was clearly dry and not fresh and had a weird rough constancy. My husband had the duck, menu description: Duck Our Way $32
Medium rare breast & crispy leg, green peppercorn sauce. The best. No kidding.

It was just OK, like the decor, waitstaff, and everything else! In summary, it was overpriced bland food that wouldn't stand a chance in any major city.

We had a reservation for their Thursday '9's night where they offer a special menu of tapas type items to share (or not).  We ordered as a table, the foie gras, the braised beef cake on mac and cheese, and the lobster bisque to share as starters.  The foie gras was cooked perfectly and sizable in portion; the bisque was very good, but the beef cake on the mac and cheese was my favorite.  I had to share unfortunately.  We then shared a lamb shank entree, and two items from their 9's menu; asian ribs and pad thai.  The pad thai was 'ok'.  I think the flavor was a bit stronger spice wise than my preference dictates.  It had some heat to it, which I prefer to add on myself with sirachi sauce when I order at Thai restaurants.   The lamb shank was fantastic.  The ribs flavorful, but ours were not particularly meaty.
The decor was lovely and cozy.  The staff very very friendly and capable.
My only slight knock was that it was very hot in the restaurant.  I thought it was just me, but my husband mentioned it, too.  We felt we were rushing through to try and get out.  The fire place was going, and it was a full house, so I'm sure that contributed, but regardless it was too warm for our liking.
Overall a fabulous experience and would return for a second visit.

Food was poor: the risotto starter was drowning in oil, and the sole beurre blanc was fried to the point of becoming a fish stick. Lobster bisque, which Henri claims is the "world's best," was tasty - perhaps best on the block or in the town.

While the food was very bad, the waitress did seem to realize it, and removed the sole off the check without us asking. The mushroom risotto was replaced with a second bisque.

Unless our food was a major fluke, I'd suggest a burger at the Friendly's up the block.

My gf and I have been going out to Manchester every year for the past three years to get away either for her birthday or for our anniversary, which was the case the other night, so I try to find a nice romantic restaurant. After reading all the outstanding reviews I figured we would check this place out. From the moment we walked in I felt like we were on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. The decor is completely tacky and there was 1 other table in the whole restaurant.  Judging by the prices listed online, I was counting on a classy restaurant. This was not the case at all, though the prices tell a different story. 2 entrees and and appetizer cost us $75 for below average cuisine. I was very excited for the Pt. Judith Calamari, as I have been to Pt. Judith, RI many times and the whole town reeks of fresh fish. This was a small portion of most likely frozen calamari rings, with little taste and even less presentation. For dinner I ordered the Lobster Linguine, and my gf got the Lamb shank. While there was a decent amount of lobster, (about 4 or 5 claws) and other seafood such as scallops and shrimp, it seemed very light on the pasta, which is the cheapest part! Why not load up on it and make it look like its worth $30. The sauce wasn't terrible but i was expecting more of a vodka cream sauce. I didn't try the lamb shank but I was told that it tasted like a pot roast and she didn't finish the whole thing so I knew it wasn't anything special. We didn't stick around for dessert because I felt I spent more than enough money already and was let down by everything else, why risk dessert too. The thing that gets me about this place is right on the back of the menu they boast about a bad review they received years ago, and how they have changed, but that person has not been back to comment. We'll I can see why they have not come back. I'm not gonna waste my once a year dinner in Manchester here again. I was completely embarrassed. Who spends more $40 a person on casual dining with small portions? And why would you announce your bad reviews to new customers? Well you can add this to your list Henry.

We had a wonderful meal at Bristo Henry. Bad weather forced us to miss a dinner with friends so we tried the closest restaurant to where we were staying and had a wonderful evening. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The restaurant was very comfortable and for the Manchester area very reasonable. We will put this on our list to return to next time we are in the area.

Henry and Dina have catered our daughter's wedding and a small family dinner.  At both, the food was superb, the service excellent and the cake was "to die".

Lovely experience.  Not a very fancy place, but they try to act fancy...guests are not allowed to wear hats.  The food was amazing.  We had escargot, grilled artichoke, duck, and shrimp.  Escargots, although not in the shell, was cooked perfectly.  Grilled artichoke came with salsa, humus, and olives.  Went very well with the wine.  Shrimp was not bad.  Duck was very good, but I was already so full I couldn't finish it.  Very generous portions on the duck.  They also have a special prix fixe menu fro 5-6pm.  $25 for 3 course.

We went to Bistro Henry our first night in Vermont for dinner and it was a fantastic meal.

The restaurant is in a cute little house. The dining room was well spaced and they had a nice fire going close to our table. We were both craving seafood, so we started with the crab cakes with the spicy remoulade. These were delicious and it is easy to understand why they are one of BHs signature items. No filler and all crab meat, lightly cooked with a sauce that compliments with a nice kick. You'll want to have those.

Entrees were served with a house salad and that was good too. Kris got the yellow fin tuna-grilled rare with spicy pad thai noodle, wasabi, soy vinaigrette & pickled ginger. I had the Linguine with Lobster, shrimp, crab & sea scallop in a brandy tomato cream that was served by the chef himself. Hello children. My wife loved the tuna, it was perfectly grilled and as it was a huge piece I got to have quite a bit of it. The Asian preparation was nice and the spicy noodles were tasty. My bowl was overflowing with pasta and seafood. I cleaned out the meat of the stone crab claw and got to work on it. Huge chunks of lobster, shrimp and scallops all through it. This was a great dish and exactly what I was looking for. For dessert we had the Maple Pecan Pie, maple ice cream and caramel. I'm a sucker for pecan pie and this was a great one and that ice cream was excellent too.

Service was spot on and we had a great evening. It wasn't all that expensive either, and the quality and size of the portions was very good. As we made our way out to the lot, I stopped by our car to look up at the starry night and held Kris a little closer. The stars were all out on this crisp Vermont evening, sometimes it's those little moments that make the night.

This restaurant was a refreshing combination of excellent French style food, a grown up and civilized dining room with great waiter and no 'tude.  Amazingly, it also manages to be pretty child friendly as well. One dinner companion is still talking about the carmelized scallop entree and fwiw, all of us found our meals terrific too.  They really care about customers enjoying the food and we even noticed that w/o hesitation, an appetizer a customer deemed "a bit salty" was whisked back into the kitchen to be reprepared to the customer's taste. Hard to have a more enjoyable dining experience than this.

I read a bunch of reviews and asked for a table near the fireplace. We were early for our reservation so we sat at the bar while we waited. It was New Years Eve so they were very busy and the bartender took a while to get our drinks. Normally I wouldn't mind at all but she took at lest 5 minutes just to nod at us and another 5 minutes to get us a menu. They have a really nice wine list and we tried a couple half bottles throughout the night.
We went to our table and had such a wonderful meal. The fireplace was so warm on a snowy night and our server, Lynn, was EXCELLENT. So sweet and always around when we needed her without being overbearing.
The lobster bisque was the best I've ever had. There were big chunks of lobster in it. Warm bread and this awesome soup - I was pretty much all set. Our entrees were great too. I loved my crab cakes and ended up taking them home for a late night snack.
My boyfriend had bread pudding for dessert and said it was to die for. Lynn corked our champagne and sent us back to our hotel with it. Overall it was a really lovely experience and we will be back if we are in the area on another special occasion.

My best and most memorable meal of 2009. I had seafood which included a wonderful Hawaiian fish. All dishes had fabulous, creative, appropriate sauces. Everything was better than the tasting menu I had at Le Bernadin in New york City at 1/4 the cost. The ambiance is nothing special, but the service was good.
Best Creme Brulee too. The Grand Marnier makes the difference.

It is rare that I go to a restaurant and like so many things on a menu that I cannot decide what to order. It is also rare that I give a restaurant 5 stars (especially one without perfect ambiance)... but this is what happened at Bistro Henry. This place was SO delicious. Everything my boyfriend and I had, the appetizer, the salad the entree, the dessert was SO so good. The service was amazing and everyone was so nice. Everyone told us to go to The Perfect Wife. Our hotel, some people we asked in local stores, other hotel guests, but we are so glad we didn't listen to them and tried Bistro Henry instead. We loved the food so much the first night that we went back for dessert the second night we were in town. The ambiance wasn't anything amazing. It was pretty casual. If you make a reservation ask for a table in the room with the fireplace, it is a bit more cozier and romantic.

This is now  my favorite restaurant in Manchester. I was a chef in the area in my late 20's through late 30's. And I AM PICKY. First off, I appreciated the friendly greeting from Carmine when I hesitantly entered without a reservation as a single on a busy Friday night. He seated me at a table with a lovely window view of their gorgeous hanging outdoor  plants and the mountains. I lucked out the night I dined, as they had my 2 favorites as specials - oysters on the half shell and soft shelled crab. The oysters were out of Chesapeake and were the best and freshest I have had in years! Everything was fresh and divine - including the crusty warm bread, the salad with mustardy house made dressing - and the excellent cornmeal dusted crabs - with a light beurre blanc sprinkled with fresh tarragon, and wonderful vegis- haricot verts, beets, carrot shreds, and delicious rice pilaf with crunchy whole barley. Yum is all I can say. The desserts are gloriously appealing as well. Any place that takes the trouble to make profiteroles? I am going to have them! These were wonderfully crispy (meaning they were not pre-filled, and Dina's Home made fudge was great - though I wanted alot more of it. 'Could have done with slightly less whipped cream...but all in all it was outstanding. Service was excellent. I will be back very soon. Afterall, the menu has foie gras and sweetbreads - 2 other favorites. A decent wine list and home made bar mixes for their cocktails. Pricey but well worth it. Oh, there is a very reasonable early bird special before 6:00 pm - if you are budgetting.

Every time my husband and I return to Vermont, we go to Bistro Henry's.  It's not in our all-time ridiculous top 5 meals, but they are in our top restaurants.  Consistently good food, great service.  We've gone dressed to the nines and slightly disheveled after a long drive with no difference.

Some of the standouts: foie gras, sweet breads, home-smoked trout, a berry "napoleon."

My husband found this place as our destination dinner for Valentine's Day. We were absolutely ecstatic to have had the pleasure of eating a meal here. The service was top-notch, I had the most delicious apple martini ever, and the food was phenomenal! We felt like royalty. Their wine list was also glorious, with tastes and prices for all. We highly recommend it!!

The food is good, but irrelevant - all you really should care about in here is the sublime duet of chocolate fondants. Order a glass of Muscat to go with it and enjoy the sheer bliss of it all.
