Had the chicken burrito with a tomato-basil wrap. Enjoyed all the options they had especially with the different type of wraps. While understanding that this place is geared towards a healthier aspect, my burrito could have used some more flavor. The chicken could have used more seasoning. My hot salsa didn't really help, which was surprising because I saw one of the workers peel hot peppers, signaling that they do use fresh ingredients. Also, my burrito was on the small side. Disappointed and wasn't really satisfied.

Great and authentic chicken tamal.  Boring and bland chicken taco.  Both tiny.  But fresh.

I get the chorizzo and egg buritto, which is perfectly executed. Nice guys working there too.

Chicken burritos are especially good but steak is good too. Always fast cuz these guys work their tails off. Always fresh ingredients and cooked right there. Highly recommended.

Joined a friend here for lunch and he said they some really good tacos. So my mouth is watering at the menu of chicken, cilantro, onions, rice, and beans..

I get my plate and I go OH. By American standards, I would consider this like a toddler meal. The taco was the size of the palm of my hand and the meat was like a half balled up fist. Kinda disappointing, but oh well.

The food is flavorful and the people are really nice. I am not in a hurry to get back with so many other places in the French Market.

Advice - do not go here if you are hungry and wanna keep lunch to under $10.

I ordered two steak tacos and a pork tamale. At first glance of the food I ordered I said to myself  "these are really small tacos and a small tamale." At $2.50 I was hoping for a little more since it came with just onions and cilantro. Sometimes bigger isn't always better and I was hoping for the meat to be delicious. Well my first bite into one of the tacos I almost chocked on a piece of fat with a little bone in it. HUGE turn off! The meat was of poor quality with bland seasoning. The tamale was good but very small. The hot sauce has little flavor and tasted kind of old. I felt there was little love put in this food compared to a good taqueria.

I don't work very far from the French Market so I frequent it fairly often. This place is usually my first choice. I either order two steak tacos with avocado and sour cream or a steak taco salad, both around $8. The steak taco is the better value because the tacos are really small.

I like the food because it tastes really fresh. The steak is always flavorful and tender and I like that they use sliced cherry tomatoes.

This place isn't  the best Mexican food I've ever had and I don't know how authentic it tastes.  Also, other than the taco salad, the portion sizes are very small for the price. This may be because of the rent at the French Market but $8 for 2 small tacos is v. pricey if you ask me.

I'll still keep coming back though for that succulent steak!

EXCELLENT Authentic Mexican Food!  Buen Apetito  is one of my favorite restaurants near my work place.  They have great food and fast service. I have tried many items on their menu and I can say their food is delicious!  They use fresh ingredients and the food is very well-seasoned.  Today for lunch I tried the Taco Salad. It was a healthy portion.  It had beans, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and crispy chips.  I had the choice of steak, chicken, salmon, or shrimp.  I had the chicken and it was delicious! To drink I had the Horchata, very tasty.  I also ordered the Guacamole & Salsa with chips to take home.  Mmmmmm! Love it!

i didnt think i would be a fan of this place, it took me 6 months to try it, and it only happened because i was too lazy to go to a real mexican joint. I will say, i was pleasantly surprised. i have had their steak tacos which for someone that isnt the biggest steak fan, i thought they tasted great! Chicken left me wanting more. I recently had their taco salad and was also pleasantly surprised. their salsa (red) is really good too.

it is a little pricey, but if you dont want to walk to la cocina, which is a few blocks down and more authentic, this isnt a bad choice.

By far the worst meal we had in Chicago.  I work in Mexicantown in Detroit  so I have the luxury of having WONDERFUL Mexican food all the time.  We went to Little Village and had great food there.
I was very impressed with how clean the grill was, how friendly the guys were, but it ends there.
I ordered two veggie tacos.  Every where you go corn tacos are put on two tortillas because they are thin and break easily.  I got one tortilla and couldn't even pick it up before I had a taco salad in my styrofoam box.  The veggies were tasty, but the beans were oh so bland.  I was glad to see black beans, though.  That was a pleasant surprise!
The rice was completely lacking in flavor.
What totally ruined my experience is my veggie tacos (yep, I am a vegetarian) had a hunk of fat in it.  I am absolutely positive it was fat.  Gross.
Take the bus and head to Little Village if you want good Mexican food, because this is not.
My meal was almost $10, for that I would have preferred Taco Bell and the extra $4 in my pocket.

I just finished two steak tacos and a chicken tamale from this joint. Ordered sour cream and cheese on my tacos, for which they charged me a dollar. Paid 9 dollars and change for everything and I'm still starving.

I must say overall I thought everything was pretty good but way too expensive and small to fill me up. I'm sure rent is high in there but they'll have to figure out some other way to save money while building bigger tacos and tamales before I go back again.

I've had burritos in the past and although small too, I've been quite pleased, unfortunately Chipotle is not far away. I would rather help the little guy but I have to look out for a number one with a huge burrito for $6 and change.

PS the steak was very flavorful and was thoroughly enjoyed, just wished there was more.

One of the fine food vendors in the fantastic Chicago French Market.

Today the conference I was attending did not give us much time for lunch, but I still hoofed a quick walk to CFM to experience more international cuisine. I ordered a two taco combo, one beef and one chicken. The beef was by far the best of the two. My tacos came with Mexican Rice and Beans and I will tell you both were beyond fast food quality. I could have easily eaten another side of beans, they were that full of flavor.

After I placed my order, I saw that they had tamales.  I wish I would have known sooner, the one's I witnessed being served looked like true authentic tamales. Oh well, there is always the next visit.

Buen Apetito is not Taco Bell (thank God) and it's not Rick Bayless, but it is a happy place in-between that provides a good Mexican lunch.

I always get two steak tacos with avocado with a side of rice and beans. Yes the tacos are really small and I know that cheese and sour cream aren't included, but they're very tasty just the same! They're by no means as filling as Chipotle tacos, but I figure they must be healthier.

I had the shrimp tacos (two) recently and was very pleasantly surprised- they were absolutely fresh, bursting with flavor and sized right. If you go to Mexico, you will find that tacos are this size. Only in America, do we "supersize" everything and now that we've gotten used to that, everything else is considered "small." Well, I was happy to pay $5+ for my lunch- it was cheap and tasty. I will admit that prices overall in the French Market leave something to be desired but quality ingredients don't come cheap...As for the guy who got food poisoning, I have noticed that the guys who work at Buen Apetito are friends with the guy who works the Chicago Organics booth-- I caught that guy picking his teeth with his bare hands as he was waiting for customers at the counter. Really grossed me out! I think maybe the health inspector should make more frequent rounds down there. But I would definitely go back to Buen Apetito!

*Ok so i just got screamed at by the owner at my last visit to the french market over this review. He called me a child and threatened I better take off this review in front of everyone. He even followed me throughout the market until i had to tell security. WOW what a professional.

I got FOOD POISONING from this place. I confronted the owner and he was defensive about it and not the slightest bit apologetic.

This experience completely ruined burritos for me.

Buen Apetito translates to "Good Appeitite" Well I guess you better be able to stomach a hospital bill too.

The shrimp taco and salmon taco are so so flavorful. I loved the flavor very much. Too bad they are the tiniest tacos you will ever find. The shrimp taco had 3 small shrimp, some lettuce, and a couple of chopped up cherry tomatoes. The salmon taco had maybe 1.5oz of salmon, and the same lettuce and tomatoes. Sorry but for 2.85 and 2.95 these are not good deals.

I ordered the steak burrito on a chili wrap. The steak tasted seasoned and savory. The lettuce, tomatoes, rice, and beans in the burrito were not overpowering the flavor of the steak. The chili wrap added a nice spice to the burrito. Their green and red sauce was homemade and tasty. My only gripe is for the $7 price for a burrito which left me unfulfilled.

I went here on my second visit to the French market. I've frequented so many mexican places, and i always start off with my standard, to gauge how good the place is - a veggie burrito.

The burrito was crisp, the rice was warm and fluffy, and the veggies were well cooked. Often, places will choose an odd mixture of vegetables that don't really go with the beans, but this was perfect.

I actually prefer places to put the guac and hot sauce in the burrito, rather than me having to dip/pour with every bite, but that's minor.

I think next to Saigon Sister, this is my favorite in the market.
