    Blecch.

Went to Burrito Beach for lunch today because I've never tried it and I got bored.  Conclusion: Blecch.  As I write this I feel gross and bloated and just generally unwell.

BB is like Chipotle if the quality was lower, the cuisine less authentic, and the price about equivalent.  And I say this knowing full well that Chipotle is about as "Mexican" as Panda Express is "Chinese."  BB is less Mexican than Chipotle, the flavors less nuanced, the trays of ingredients less fresh.  Consider this.

I got a bbq chicken salad, which was a small amount of lettuce, a large amount of mushy, overcooked, flavorless rice, black beans, and bbq chicken that was mostly sauce and the sauce was way too sweet and clashed with the other toppings.  My other toppings were corn, cheese, and tomatillo salsa.  These flavors should not have clashed, yet somehow, they did.

Also, because of the amount of sauce on the chicken, plus the dressing, plus the wet lettuce, plus the beans that were clearly not strained, the whole thing was a soggy mess before I even got a fork into it.

Good points:  The guac was pretty good, the chips indistinguishable from Chipotle's (although there were significantly less of them), they have diet Dr. Pepper in the fountain.

Anyone from the South would compare this more to Moe's than Chipotle due to the trashy Tex-Mex flavor combos (bbq chicken, buffalo chicken, etc).  But Moe's is WAY more successful at this venture, as their fast pseudo-Mexican grub is actually super tasty and wonderful.

    Skip this mess.

You can't go wrong here. The food is just as good as Chipotle, and the service staff is on point. They have the ordering process down to a science. Very friendly people, reasonable prices for downtown Chicago.

Went here for the first time today. It's pretty decent quick-lunch "Mexican"-American food. Nothing outstanding, nothing bad either. I'll keep going now and again for lunch while at work. Don't go here if you want actual Mexican food; head out to the neighborhoods.

Love the breakfast burrito - great way to start the day! Fast service and great tasting food. Miss 'the beach'.

Here's the thing, every restaurant in the Illinois Center has workers that really really hate their jobs, because not once have I seen someone smile or seem like they are having fun. They are too busy chatting with one another that they look past the fact that they are working in a customer service industry. I understand that the Illinois Center is huge and has so many people walking through their doors everyday, but still, please at least have a smile.

2 stars cause not only is the service bad, food is just ok.

Blah, I've definitely had much better.  I mean, its fast food so I kind of understand.  I had a shrimp burrito that was decent at best, it tasted pretty bland to tell the truth.  The biggest dissapointment was the nacho cheese.  It tasted really funky, thats the only way to describe it. It may seam like I'm being fickle but believe me when I say....I am a lover of all things nacho cheese.  I'd probably give it another shot since its close to where I work.  However, there is a Mcdonalds next door.

I had a good experience on my first Burrito Beach experience but I was just not thrilled with what I got. Greg S. the Owner took time out of his busy day to apologize for my not stellar experience and offered some suggestions for my next trip, now that's customer service at its best!

Well lucky for me Burrito Beach caters to the 200 W Chicago building like once a week and I got a change to try out Greg's suggestions and the Tacos were delicious !

I've learned my lesson, don't get wheat tortillas they just don't compare. I am officially a Burrito Beach convert !

I had to find a quick place for lunch between talks and stumbled upon this place. There were a lot of people in line, and prices seemed reasonable so I went for it. I ended up ordering the shrimp soft tacos and they had good flavor! I was very happy with it. Plus 3 tacos came with small bag of chips, and for those who know me I am a sucker for tortilla chips. Over all it was not too shabby and I would not mind coming back for a quick lunch!

I'm still on a quest to try out all of my pedway lunch options before winter is out. Burrito Beach occupies a corner spot, next to the "Great Steak and Potato Company" (it isn't so great, but that's another review).

    Burrito Beach provided me with:

    a) three delicious "baja chicken" tacos, with all the trimmings;
    b) a big cup of mango agua fresca;
    c) easy ordering and pleasant staff;
    d) a small bag of tortilla chips, thrown in at no charge.

That's a recipe for a good lunch break, even if the raw onions did give me onion breath for 12 hours afterwards.

I have changed my review (below) from 4 Stars to 1. The change reflects the changes I have experienced at BB when the Carlos the Manager and Myra the front counter person left. Service went down hill but I stuck with them. Service is really poor even though the lady working the front counter in the morning is realy nice. It's poorly managed.

Today was a tipping point. I went out of my way to go to BB and got there 15 minutes after they were supposed to open. They were closed and the doofus manager smiled/laughed and tossed her arms in the air like 'too bad, not open'. This was not the fist time they were late opening. They are often way behind on completing their set up causing me to wait.

I'm done. I used my punch card last week and have no reason to go there again.

It's fast food. So, my review is based on whether I can get edible food, fast at a decent price. The answer in this case is 'yes' on all counts.

What makes this location better than most - and better than other fast food places - is Carlos the manager and his team. This morning he opened the doors for me 15 minutes early to take my order. His positive attitude and consumer-centric approach is reflected by the people he has working for him.

Hot tip: Try the Low Carb Scrambler for breakfast. Romaine lettuce, bacon, salsa, cheese, guacamole, and toppings for less than $5.00.

I go to this particular Burrito Beach at least once a week.  They have a nice selection of meats for burritos, tacos, nachos, and if you're feeling like you need to eat healthier - salad bowls.  They're generous with the food and toppings, and they're very friendly.  The prices have been going up a bit over the past couple years, but it's worth it for the quantity of food.

Here's a tip, don't pass up the chance to have nachos for lunch... nachos here are great, with chicken/beef, cheese, jalapenos, lettuce/tomato/onions... it's a whole lotta food... just make sure you take a fork and a lot of napkins....

Similar to Chipotle, they have the ingredients ready and they just put everything together after they heat up the tortilla.  I had the Baja Chicken burrito which was really good. Maybe it was because I was starving though... My burrito ended up being around $6.

I'm giving it three stars because I was really thirsty throughout the day after eating it. I guess there must have been too much salt.

    They have free wi-fi though!

I actually prefer this Burrito Beach to the one on Lake/State as well as the one on Michigan/Ontario (or is it Ohio?)..

They are also lax (aka don't check) on coupon expiration dates! Shhhh ;)
Coupons remind me, they do send a lot of those in the mail and with some pretty good, usable deals!

i've been a tried-and-true chipotle girl for quite some time now, so never really felt the need to give burrito beach a go. my first experience was at a lunch meeting, and i have to tell you - i was pleasantly surprised! i tried the buffalo chicken burrito - and it was good. i was expecting it to be fried, but it wasn't. props to the flavor choices instead of the run of the mill chicken, pork and steak choices.

i decided to come back a second time to test out the goat cheese and black bean burrito. and it. was. magical. seriously. if you're a goat cheese fan, you gotta try it out. i usually have trouble finishing a whole burrito by myself, but i couldn't help it. it's that good. (i also wanted to take a nap afterward.)

however, i was mildly disappointed by their offering of chips and guacamole. the guac was delicious, but there were only about 10 chips in the bag! doesn't provide for much dipping action. chipotle wins in this aspect.

The nachos are pretty good! I like a lot of stuff on my nachos, healthy and unhealthy. Not authentic of course, but since when are nachos authentic Mexican anyway?

You don't go here for "real" Mexican. you go here because it tastes good and it's right by your job or your dealer or wherever you go during the day.

I've never been to a Burrito Beach before this one and I'm kind of sad. Although I do like chicken and salsas at Chipotle better, there are more choices at Burrito Beach. The guac is good and they give you a generous portion which is a plus. I haven't had a bad experience yet. *knocks on wood*

When I'm in the 225 building . . . I'll hit this place for breakfast. They make a very tasty ham/cheese egg burrito that I actually really love, and have ordered for lunch as well. YUM!

I really don't know why people bag on this place so much. For the record, I think it's much better than Chipotle. As a vegan, there aren't tons of choices in the tourist-trappy loop, but Burrito Beach delivers with the grilled veggie burrito. The beans don't have meat in them, and they also have corn on the line (in addition to the usual fixin's) as an option. It costs extra to add guacamole to your burrito, but I think it's so worth it. My hubby and I meet here quite a bit for lunch, and for $20 we each get the veg burrito, share a side of chips and guac (very generous portion size), and refillable sodas. Not bad.

Warning: don't order this if you are hung over and have a meeting right after lunch. At the risk of being overly graphic, it's very fibrous and you'll have to run for it 20 minutes post-consumption.  That said, enjoy!

Burrito Beach is ok I guess.  My coworker gave me a free entree coupon so we went to go check it out.  We past by it all the time to Cozi, Potbelly, and the other fast food places in 111 Wacker.

I had the Baja Chipotle Chicken Burrito.  There wasn't that much chicken but it wasn't bland either.  It was so so.  The tortilla wrap they use is more durable than that at Chipotle so the burrito stayed intact and didn't fall apart on me.  Overall though, I still like Chipotle and Qdoba better.  They give you more meat and its much more flavorful.

I had reviewed this restaurant a few weeks ago and the chips could
have used some freshening so we only went with 3 stars.

Since then, they seemed to have gotten on that and they have improved.

You just cant beat the Tres Tacos - Grilled Chicken for $4.99 including
chips!  Food is fresh and hot and tasty every time.  Moving up my review to 4 stars.

I'm with the "Go Chipotle" crowd on this one.  I don't like eating massive burritos of either the Chipotle or Beach variety, so I usually go for the bowl or salad.  Not impressed - I missed my Chipotle burrito bowl.  Although its massive, I usually eat half, and save the other half for dinner, or lunch the next day (get the guac and sour cream on the side) and it doesn't get soggy at all!  The salad I got from Beach was all water in the bottom (in part due to the watery lettuce (fine ok, its a salad) and the black beans (again, ok I get it, get a scoop with slots for the liquid).  But I just didn't even really like the taste of it.  So to Chipotle I will go the next time I crave.

If you're craving mexican food, wait it out till you can find another place. This is mediocre at best and I felt ill after eating a burrito here (I'm talkin' about diarrhea guys). The guacamole is good though.

For whatever reason, people who like Chipotle hate Burrito Beach, and vice versa. I'm a member of the pro-Beach camp, because I feel like it's better to have variety and taste over quantity. If you're in the mood to have a 3-lb rock of cheese and beans sitting in your gut all day, by all means, choose Chipotle. The burritos at Beach are a nice lunchtime size - I usually go for the Baja chicken and end up saving some of it for a snack later in the day. Sign up for their e-mail list because they send really good coupons every month. For ex, they're currently doing free chips and guac if you buy an entree - so you can get an entire meal for like $6! Score!

Does Beach have the best burritos in the land? Of course not.
Is it the best option for satisfying your lunchtime burrito craving if you work in the Loop? Ehhhhh, probably!

I had this a few times when my company would cater it in.  Tacos were alright (hey free food can't complain right?) but I wouldn't buy it otherwise.  They really need to redo their guacamole.  Go to the Chipotle across the street instead.

After trying to clarify my order numerous times once, I still received the wrong this.  I was angry!  However, I told the manager and he was fantastic about correcting it.  Way to go customer service!!!

I think Burrito Beach is pretty good but TOTALLY different from Chipotle.  I wouldn't go here for a burritto (weird yes) but they have great salads, quesadillas and nachos.  And my co-workers have raved about their tacos but I haven't tried em.

I'm eating a burrito from Burrito Beach as I write this...  I only occasionally go to this place because I think that somehow if I order enough different things there, I might actually find one I like.   I haven't yet.

It seems like they've tried to copy Chipotle on some things, then tried to do more fast foodish type things in addition... But Chipotle tastes sooooo much better.

The burritos at this place reminds me more of Taco Bell than anything...  The quality is about the same, Chipotle seems to be much higher quality.  Its fast food yes, but $6-7 for a fast food burrito isn't a good deal if it doesn't taste good.  The employees here don't seem as on top of things, either.
