You would not expect a review of a bar be for breakfast. The Castle serves breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast is worth a visit. There are additional entrees like eggs benedict, but my favorite is the grilled pork chops. You can get it with one or two chops, I always get two and take the second one home for a second meal.
Review Source:To the windows, to the walls, to the sweat dirty off my... Nope its not that kind of place here. Â Tucked in between the piers of Hermosa and Manhattan is a mystical place called The Castle.
There is plenty of parking in the back, which you don't need to pay for. Â So that's a +1 so you don't have to worry about getting a $50 parking ticket. Â
Always stocked with beautiful and attentive bar tenders, my favorite is the one that works on Sunday; the lovely and wonderful Melissa.
The Bomb. Manhattan Beach Local Hangout. Southbay Bitches!! HAhAha Just went back the other day. Had not been there since my youth, and I have to say it is still the same, except they have menus and the place no longer has the "famous Breakfast" it is now the castle breakfast! Bloody sallies are still good and the breakfast is what it always was, great!!
Review Source:The divy-est of dive bars yet far from what one could deem a British pub or public house. Â The Castle is small, but cozy. Â They keep it dark and make sure you look your best regardless of your condition. Â
All the staples exist as well, a pool table, ping pong, jukebox, breakfast to wash down your morning brew taking a bite from the dog that bit you the night before, and free appetizers during happy hour ensuring you at least have a pot sticker in your belly to help soak up the booze. Â Most of the patrons just enjoy keeping the seats warm however, if you want to play some pool or ping pong it's almost always open, or you can join in. Â And if you're alone, someone will play with you even if the bartender her self has to juggle it into the routine.
Priscella, Desiree, Christina, Niki, Elizabeth, Emily, Sam...They have all done right by me on multiple occasions. Â These ladies bust their ass and make sure everyone's properly taken of, and not just with a constant stream of whiskey or beer. Â This is the MB WuTang clan bringing witty unpredictable talent and natural game to the south bay bartenders association. Â
Of all the second homes you can find to call your own, I don't know many that opt for a better venue than Castle. Â
I will toss out a little disclosure though, first off, bring cash. Â They don't accept anything else. Â It boggles my mind a little but it also keeps the prices fair and you never have to second guess if you're being charged one too many joebomba's (ask for it, delish shot created by a regular).
Second, if you're going to get shwasted and act a fool, befriend the bar keep first. Â She'll take care of you if you're on her good side, make sure you get home safe. Â If not you're on your own. Â
There's something almost nostalgic about the place though. Â I always go alone, and leave with at least a few new friends, if not a whole bar full of new friends. Â By the time you finish your first beer the last thing you want to do is leave. Â Of course the world beckons and thankfully for all of us, when it's time to unwind the Castle is waiting and like an old friend it's as if you never left at all. Â
Even if frequenting local dive bars isn't your cup of tea, if you want to catch a game or just kill some time it's worth stopping in. Â Say hi and I'm sure you'll be glad you did.
I love this place!  I drove by for about 10 years before I ever walked in to try it out.  I regret that it took so long!  I bring everyone I know who is visiting from out of town here.  Their breakfasts are amazing, the staff is friendly and I love feeling like I'm a regular, despite only  coming in a handful of times a year!
Review Source:I drove by this bar a while back and the name immediately caught my interest..."The Castle". Being a bit of a medieval/fantasy-genre fan myself (a.k.a "Nerd"), I was intrigued. But it wasn't until a recent bar hopping excursion did one of my friends suggest we check it out.
So we arrived at the bar around 11:00pm on a Saturday. We found ample parking in the back. The place was a bit more dive-y than I originally anticipated and there was a severe lack of patronage for a Saturday night.
They have a pretty cool juke box. It actually accepts credit cards and has a very extensive list of artists/songs. I popped in $5 and picked more than a dozen songs, none of which played during the time I was at the bar. Not sure if someone else had made selections before me and it was still finishing their playlist, but I definitely felt cheated out of $5.
They also have a pool table in the front and a ping pong table at the back.
Our group hung around for about an hour and had a few beers, but overall I could tell they weren't digging the vibe. I won't fault the bar too harshly though. We were looking for something a bit more lively and we didn't find it here that night.
To The Castle's credit, the prices were reasonable, the beer selection was good, the staff was friendly, and the few patrons that were there were chill. Not much more you can ask for from a dive bar. (Other than a juke box that plays the songs you pay for and perhaps a bit more entertainment).
I'm not writing-off The Castle just yet. It may have been just a slow Saturday. I'd say this place is worth checking out, but you might do well to leave high expectations at the door.
the castle is a great, laid back bar that, even though it is on sepulveda, is off the beaten path. Â large parking lot in the rear. Â most enter through the back door near the bathrooms. Â pass the server station (may have some food for all) and into the main area. Â not real big. Â bar is on the right and lower eating tables on the right. Â past the bar is a pool table and juke box.
the actual bar is wooden with medium rail. Â padded bar front that is great to rest your knees against. Â a huge square box footrail that actually fits your entire show/sandel. Â bar back has three hdtvs and many shelves. Â behind all that is a large mirror. Â opposite the bar are the tables and a wood panel wall that is decorated by large framed music posters and beer signs. Â also has a surfboard on the overhang that is above the tables.
though people will stay out of your business, they're all friendly, including a guy named jeff that will likely hit you up for a dollar to play the jukebox. Â samantha is a very good bartender that on the spot with a strong drink or beer.
Dive bar? Yes. Interesting people? Yes. Good beer? Yes.
The guy who runs this place is pretty cool. He hires very friendly, very flirty girls who do a good job tending bar. They don't have much on tap, but they do offer a wide selection of bottled beers.
They show all the big games, and every once in a while they throw a big party for someone with really cheap food. It seems like everyone is welcome, and everyone there is generally pretty friendly. The pool table there always seems available-- ping pong table too. If you come in on a weekday, you'll find some older regular dudes who stop in a for a drink or two.
Maybe it's not the hippest, but that's part of the charm.
The Castle is a dive bar. Â Parking is in the back. Decent size space. Â I drove by this place a million times until one of my friend that lives in the neighborhood brought me here. Â
Upon walking into the bar, there is that dive bar smell. It doesn't smell funky, it smells um dive-y. Â
There is a ping pong table and a pool table there. Â Juke box is internet base so it has a million songs. Â
I was told the food was good here but I didn't get a chance to try any. Â Cool place. Â I would go back.
I come here after work once in a while. They have a great happy hour Thurs, Fri and Sat from 7am to 9am and again from 5pm to 7pm.
Its a hit or miss. The daytime bartender is a little ditzy, but the bartender on Saturdays is really good! (I think her name is Angela).
The only complaint is about the people!! OLD MEN!! I feel like I'm walking into a damn sausage party EVERY TIME I visit!!
Okay, so I decided to give this place another shot. I read the review saying I walked in like I owned the place (yeah right- if that were the fact; this joint woud be a completely different animal). It's been a while, so maybe, just MAYBE, The Castle has cleaned up and has become a place I can recommend to my fellow Yelpers.
Guess what? It's just not meant to be. It is still cruddy. Twenty years later, and still the same fake ass plastic wood wallpaper. Thought we would sample the food. Why? because I want to be sure that I ave the place every opportunity.
Unfortunately, the food is all multi-thousand carb injected artery choking slop. Had a few drinks, and skipped it altogether. Pass, pass, PASS!!
I like this bar because it is not overrun with a bunch of attention-seeking, overdressed (or rather underdressed, as many women I see going out are wearing fewer and fewer articles of clothing) patrons. Â The few times I've been here have been low key for the most part, and pretty fun. Â There's a rickety ping pong table in the back, and I don't remember what else...but they sell chips and breath mints behind the bar which was pretty LOL.
The first time I went here I was playing ping pong in the back, and this van comes screeching around the parking lot and empties out 5 or 6 slick-back-black-haired, well dressed Mafia type looking guys and at first I thought I was in the middle of some random filming of a reality show, or that something really terrible was about to happen. Â But after the female bartender greeted them by name I felt a little safer. Â This place is pretty random and if you go during the week you will have some bizarro alternate-world type experiences, no doubt.
A true dive (not one a bunch of hip investors created 6 months ago to look old and run down).
Servers and bartenders are very professional and courteous, but if you come in like you own the place on your first visit you will end up like Johnny G and weed yourself out...
I have been here 6-7 times for breakfast on the weekend and always have fun. The pork chop breakfast is unbelievable and the people I bring are always amazed at the quality of the food for such a hole. Bloody Mary's are potent and delicious.
I will continue to go back here whenever I am craving a good breakfast...
I've been going to the Castle since 1981.  We use to go for lunch a few times a week when I worked down the street.  We  also go to drink our breakfasts on the weekend. Â
We use to watch the regulars on their barstools in the morning and wonder how could anybody drink that early. Â That was until we started joining them.
The Castle's the kind of place you never know what to expect - i don't mean that in a bad way at all.  Many of their former  female bartenders have  legend status.
Every Thanksgiving an Austrian bartender makes and serves a scrumptious turkey dinner  for all us derelicts.  She does it every year out of the goodness of her heart.

HAHAHA!! This one's for you Ty!
So I was in Hermosa Biatch recently and while chuggin' down a few brews at a local bar near the strand, a dear friend told me of a place nearby, but forwarned me of the shock value it would create if I were to go there. Well much to my hesitation, I went anyway. And oh boy was I in for a rare treat!
Talk about creating The Dive Bar Hall Of Fame! SOmeone needs to enshrine this place in there immediately! Funny thing was when I was at the bar in Hermosa, I met some new friends as I do wherever I go... You might as well call me the Sparklettes Water Man, cause I'm makin friends... Well I told my new friends whether they knew of The Castle, and they were quick to point out that they heard that the hottest bartenders work there. I was in a bit of confusion thereafter, for I was told this place was a dump. Well picture this...
As you drive down Sepulveda, the sign isn't in the best of conditions, so you might miss it. Not because the sign is too small, or obscure... it is because the sign is so freagin old, cracked, and faded, no one can see it. You could tell that this place has been here for a very long time. SO I entered the bar from the rear, only to find a place that looked like a mix between a YMCA cafeteria and a pub out of 1538 Midievel times... and much like the partons at the bar, everything else was run down 'n old... I couldn't believe my friend would be working at a place like this, because she is a hottie, and the place just looked gawd awful. The decor was something to study, for you could tell that some of the signs had been there since perhaps Jesus visited the place. So I took seat on a torn up bar stool, got myself a brew and began observing. Boy, you know you are in an old dive bar when they are advertising on a written 20 year old piece of paper "Certs and Rolaids" for a buck! Are you Kiding mE?!! WHo sells certs and rolaids at a bar?? I guess it's for the cert and rolaid type 'a clientele. Who eats certs anywmore? And rolaids? Is that for the old dirt covered men who need one after drinking 10 too many drinks. Oh... and the patrons... HAHAHAHA! From another part of this era... I think some of them were from the last century... the 19th century... Â I was waiting for Forrest and Lt. Dan to come in any second... So the patrons sat there and drank 'n drank 'n drank... these guys were true veterans of alcohol consumption. My idols! Hope I can find a bar from now, and make it mine for next 50 years or so (If I'm still around, that is). You could tell it was a very, very locals place. Everyone knew each other and everyone had a nickname.. like Dirty Tim, and Dusty Mike... It was a real treat being there. The drinks were cheap, as were the patrons, the decor... but the batenders are all hot... I guess it's a Castle tradition that'll last another 100 years I'm sure. Where fine looking wenches will serve ye ole patrons! Thanks K & Ty for ye ole grand times!
