Just had the WORST meal in my life. Food tasted like it was made on thanksgiving, then they took scraps from people's leftovers on their plates, froze it, then microwaved it and served it. The service was horrible and after complaining about it to the hostess she said 'tough, never come back.' Not a problem to ever go back. This place has the problem. Whoever opened this place is turning in their grave on the low class of people running it now.

There didn't seem to be a ton of options in the area, and we came in to escape the freezing weather following a day at the Longwood Gardens.

Our waitress sat us down in the mostly deserted restaurant  around a giant wooden table - it's really kind of and old tavern-style place with a giant wooden table to hold the whole extended family. And then we studied the menu...and then we waited...and then...etc...yes, it's one of those reviews.

My soup was yummy, the remaining food looked average - mozzarella sticks from the realm of "if you asked a two year old to draw a mozzarella stick, what would it look like?" creativity, pasta that's plain, a cheesesteak that did look pretty good but was so greasy it destroyed the lower half of the roll and became a half-sandwich half pile-of-meat.

Really the hold up was the service. We got the "auto-gratuitie'd" party number which meant we saw our waitress when she dropped off our drinks then when she dropped off our food. The place was empty, we were visibly seeking her out from our seats, they just needed a manager to step in and ask her to fulfill role minimums.

Horrible service, mediocre food with some highlights, neat atmosphere, few options.

    Worst.  Food.  Ever...

There's not much else to say about the Chadds Ford Tavern.  From the moment we walked through the doors we should've known to turn around and head elsewhere, but our rumbling stomachs insisted we sit down and order.

The sticky tables were quite charming.  Nothing beats the feeling of putting your arms down and then literally having to peel them up off the tabletop.  I swear I left a layer of skin on that tabletop.

Our server was prompt and courteous, no complaints with her.  She brought our beers out right away, which was a good thing because the alcohol helped take some of the horror out of what was yet to come.

The appetizer was the highlight of the meal.  We had the fried green beans, which were quite tasty, so that gave us hope that our meals wouldn't be so bad, but then out they came...

I had the Veal Chadds Ford.  It sounded good on the menu:  veal cutlets topped with crab imperial in a creamy cheese sauce, however, what I was served was a far cry from what was described.  I ended up with a plate of veal jerky and Cheez Whiz topped with what appeared to be Fancy Feast...you know, the food for cats.  And there's no way in heck I'd serve this disaster to any cat, friend or foe.  After sampling one forkful I was wishing it actually were Fancy Feast.

The canned vegetables that accompanied the veal jerky were a culinary nightmare.  Imagine opening a can after the nuclear holocaust.  That's how these veggies appeared.  If the only thing to truly survive a nuclear holocaust are cockroaches and these canned veggies, the roaches would starve.

If you decide to stop at Chadds Ford Tavern for a meal be sure to bring some Syrup of Ipecac with you.

I had the most delicious beef stew over rice dish. I know it sounds kind of plain, but it was so good that I ordered another meal to take back to the hotel for later. My friend got a turkey rueben sandwich that he devoured in record time. He ordered a beer and because it was taking longer than normal to come from the tap, the waitress gave him one in a bottle and then the draught on the house. Nice! Our waitress was super pleasant, and friendly. The decorations and furniture were Amish and very sturdy and beautiful. The whole place had an old school atmosphere that was charming. And the food was just out of this world good. Home cooked and not hurried. I wish I lived in the area because I would go there weekly. I sound like a glutton here, but honestly, best food I have had in forever. No complaints!

I wouldn't be surprised to find Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey sitting in a corner booth at this tavern.  It comes from a different time and a different land, and the beer is reasonably priced.

Also, on Music Trivia Mondays, the quiz master (from Isingard no doubt) will only quiz during Monday Night Football commercials if the Eagles are playing.  Don't forget to Double Down for a free drink!

Spur of the moment dinner after visiting Longwood Gardens. The decor is very old-school; dark, wood, stained glass, but friendly and welcoming staff. Our diners had the Meatball Penne Parm, Broiled Seafood Platter and Chicken Marsala. All were excellent! Plenty of food with some left over for lunch the following day. Our server was friendly and attentive, the food was good and plentiful. We found a new jewel during our travels to the area!

We came here years ago when it was under different owners. We weren't impressed.
New owners and some good advertising brought us back last night. First impressions were, friendly, comfortable, old interior but fit the Tavern feel. The waitress Sue was great start to finish. There are two menus. One with dinners and one sandwiches. We werent' that hungry so we asked if they made sandwiches. The second menu had all you could imagine.
We had a chicken cheese steak and a chicken sandwich melt on rye bread with onions, peppers and mushrooms. Delicious! Hot fries and cold drinks.
Thursdays are ladies night so we will have to go back!
People said good bye from the bar as we left. 3 TV's in the bar to watch sports!

From the second we walked in to the second we left. this was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had (and "dining" is too good a word for the meal we were served). The place smelled like a dirty, wet dog. While we did not want a fancy place for dinner, we didn't expect s stale smell and sticky tables.

Even the ice water was nasty, with a heavy metallic taste. When I asked the waitress, Mary, if it was well water (because I couldn't even drink it), she rolled her eyes, and said "Yeah. Are you ready to order?"

From the drinks to the entrees, everything was dismal. The rolls were store bought. The iceberg lettuce salad was swimming in water. The dressing tasted like it came from a bottle. The onion soup was mediocre, as were the $20 crab cakes. The Chianti I ordered was totally undrinkable (it had practically turned to vinegar). My coffee was cold. No refills were ever offered. My husband ordered his steak without mushrooms, and it came out smothered with them. When they brought it back (after I had almost finished my entree), they clearly had just gone into the kitchen and removed the mushrooms, and brought him back the same plate. *Not once* did our waitress come by the table to ask if everything was alright (of course, it wasn't). She ignored us the entire evening.

If you're looking for a place to eat near Longwood Gardens, THIS IS NOT IT!!!
