I ate here twice back in April 2013. Â I was looking for places to kill some time while my son was at a hockey clinic in Oaks, PA. Â It's a big sports bar with lots of screens. Â
I ate at the bar both times. Â They have something like 40 beers on tap including plenty of interesting microbrews. Â The bartender was busy so not super friendly, but it was no problem getting her attention when I needed her. Â Food arrived promptly and was about what you'd expect from a chain restaurant such as this - it was fine, nothing special, but certainly decent.
Not the kind of place my family would like, but if you want to have some beers and watch a game with friends then this place would be good.
We stopped in here after a movie at the Movie Tavern last Friday for some drinks. Â I was really impressed with the number of beers they had on tap, and there were a lot of cocktails on the menu, including skinny options. Â The bartending was good and the atmosphere was actually pretty relaxing (although this could be because I was already kind of tipsy from the Movie Tavern). Someone nearby ordered food which looked and smelled good. Â Maybe next time I'll stop in for some late night munchies too.
Review Source:I'm going to be generous here and give 3 stars based on the fact that the staff and service was great and it seems like a wonderful place to watch a sporting event ( although there was a weird disparity of a few seconds between the audio and video of the TVs, where the audio was ahead, making it seem like Nostradamus was announcing the game.) I was pleased with our server, who was very friendly and efficient in getting the food to our table. Unfortunately, the food was the problem.
It wasn't terrible, it was just forgettable. Our server made a point of saying that they were known for the burgers and while I didn't have one, they didn't look very impressive. I had a CBO burger at McDonalds earlier that looked more appealing.
We had originally come to this shopping center for Movie Tavern ( our movie was sold out) and its ironic that the Kobe Sliders there looked better than the ones my daughter got at Champps to compensate ( although everyone was pleased with the waffle fry option).
I got the beef fajitas and was really underwhelmed. First, at $15 they were the most expensive fajitas I've seen at similar places. The beef itself, pieces were either rare or well done. The onions and peppers were under sautéed . They really made me long for Fajitas at Chillis.
Again, the experience was not altogether unpleasant and maybe I was just bummed about getting denied at Movie Tavern but the meals at Champps were not worth a return visit.
Nice restaurant, but its very loud with a million tv's. The food is horrible and their menu sucks, I ordered a simple burger and fries and they couldnt get my order right. My food took a long time to get to the table and it was luke- warm and tasteless. Long story is.......DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
Review Source:Only average. Â The food is mediocre. Â Most of what I have ever ordered has been tasteless. Â The bar is great though as they have a huge selection on tap. Â The service is always outstanding as everyone is always more than happy to get you anything that you need. Â At the bar the bartenders are ready with your next drink even before you are fully finished your current one. Â If the food got even just a tad better I would up my rating to 4 stars.
Review Source:Let's cut to the chase...we've been here twice. Â Once when they opened, and then another time several months later. Â Here is a summary of events from our visits there:
1. Â Food took a loooong time to come to the table. Â Probably between 30-45 minutes.
2. Â My kids got pizza and it was raw. Â A pizza with actual raw dough, that's something I haven't seen in a restaurant before.
3. Â My wife's fish was undercooked. Â It had to go back. Â We got a ton of attitude from the waiter for having the nerve to want our fish to be cooked enough so that it at least wasn't flipping around on the plate. Â Â
4. Â Our food was lukewarm all around.
Two experiences here, both were pretty darn wretched and punctuated by rude and unprofessional servers. Â Going out to eat with family should be a fun time, not a gauntlet of increasing horrors.
I used to like Champps and was excited to see that one was opening closer to our home. Â Now I'm pretty jaded about the place!
Went here with my hubby on a Tuesday night after looking over their menu on the Internet. Was interested in getting a salad and they seemed to have a good selection on line. Well, I got the BBQ chicken salad and husband got the fajita salad. Both came out and I had high hopes. That is until we both tasted our food! Bland, under seasoned, under dressed, sub par food! Should have bought a salad in a bag from grocery store and saved myself $30 bucks! Â Husband felt the same about his salad as well. No flavor! Informed our very sweet server who thought manager would take care of us, after hearing complaints. Well, not the case. The manager was young and rather arrogant. Did absolutely nothing! Even when the server tried to get a free comp dessert, manager said no! Well, you certainly lost our business! No second chance with a manager who sees no wrong with serving less than mediocre food. Word of advice, pass on this place...totally not worth the money!
Review Source:My wife and I went there last night (12/20/2011). Not only was the food good, our waitress Lauren was great! We were pleasantly pleased.
Not only that but we both ordered the 12oz top sirloin and it was above what you would expect for a cheap chain restaurant. Â Properly cooked and wasn't a connective tissue and gristle laden mess. Dinner for 2, with alcohol was under $80 with a healthy 22% tip.
After reading the previous reviews I was prepared for the worst. I was very pleasantly surprised! Our group of 5 showed up at Champs at 7:30 on a Friday night. We had called the previous day and made a reservation. We had decent drinks at the bar (friendly bartender and great service) and then were seated at our table. The service was efficient and timely. Our app of Loaded Chips was pretty good; hot and smothered with goodies. Â I ordered a side Greek salad and 3 Kobe beef sliders. They were cooked to a perfect medium rare per my request. The salad was well above average with plenty of feta, romaine and Kalamata olives. Â Everyone at our table was pleased with their meal. Meanwhile, the TV's blared and the noise level was high...to be expected at a sports bar.
The waitstaff was attentive and  competent. Food was served quickly (on Friday night!) and our orders were hot and as ordered.
Nice beer on tap. Good martini's. Good service. Pretty darn good food.
Okay Champ's!!!!
I went to this location twice (both times the service was infuriating) and I am done with this place. I arrived lastnight around 6pm and there was a small to medium crowd in there. I waited for about 15 minutes for our server to come over and take our drink order. At this point we figured we would also order our entree as well, since she was so busy with the two tables she had. [insert sarcasm]
Another 20 minutes went by before she could come back with our drinks (two draft beers) well she came back with half the order. When I asked for the rest of our drink order, I got attitude rather than drinks. Another 15 minutes go by and I flagged her down to ask if we were getting our drinks that evening with a little attitude. (Figured I would throw the slag a taste of her own medicine). 10 more minutes pass and we get our complete drink order. It was two draft beers for crying out loud!
Now here come the wait. 40 minutes pass before our food comes out. Nothing special, nothing fancy, two normal items off the menu. 40 MINUTES!!! This place was not busy either. The thing that bothered me the most was that other sections were getting their food. It just seemed like our section. This is perhaps due to our "waitress" bs'ing with co-workers rather than assisting customers.
Normally I do not give wait staff a hard time becuase I figured with the Sunday football crowd they probably had a tough day, but this happened twice that I was in there. A Thursday in the Summer and lastnight. It also doesn't help that our "waitress" was taking her bad day out on us. The place was fully staffed too. There were numerous people in black shirts standing around shooting the s--t. The kitchen seemed functional as well being that other surrounding tables that came in after us got their food in a timely fashion.
Needless to say she was sweet as pie when she delived the bill.... go figure.
I can honestly say I have never, never, never left a bad tip in my adult life until lastnight.
Champ's has really taken a nose dive over the years. I used to go to the King of Prussia location a lot and enjoyed it. Now it seems like and over priced Applebee's.
I echo the comment "Meh, I've experienced better." (Not only hilarious, but true.)
I am excited to see any new shops/restaurants come into the Collegeville/Wegman's shopping center and was interested in trying this place out.
First, the BAD. I'm vegetarian and there was hardly anything on the menu aside from appetizers (which I am almost always happy to eat...I could live off french fries.) Now, Â I don't expect a huge veg. menu (I mean, it's a sports bar. Football fans don't usually want to dig into some tofu while watching their favorite teams.) However, a veggie burger would have been good. You can get a box of 18 Boca burgers at Costco for $9.99 and charge your customers $8.00 for them. Instead, I ordered the chips and cheese. While it was a huge portion, the taste was simply underwhelming. My dining partner got the sliders and was also underwhelmed. So, the food was not so awesome.
The good- Our server was awesome. Friendly, attentive and had a great personality. Made good recommendations and kept our drinks full. The atmosphere is great for sports fans..the place has something like 26 televisions around the place. Seems like it would be a great place for a group of young, 20 somethings to watch the game and hang out on a Sunday. (I'm 33 and don't like sports...so take it with a grain of salt.)
My daughter took me to champps in Collegeville  for an after Father's day dinner. I had the BBQ triple play and my daughter had a pasta dish.  The food arrived in a timely manner but my ribs were cold so I sent it back and after a few minutes it came back again and the ribs were still cold.  A Manager came over and I told him what had happened and he offered to make me another meal but at this point my daughter had already picked over her over cooked pasta so I asked him to make mine to go.  We were not being charged for our meal so we asked if he could charge us for drinks so we could tip the Server because we should all know that they are not to be punished for bad food.  The manager who turned out to be the bar manager told us not to worry about tipping the server.  We couldn't believe that he even said that. We felt bad for the Server who had to pay the price for bad food.  We will never go there again.
Review Source:The Yelp two star rating of "Meh. I've experienced better" describes this visit as accurate.
I was so excited because they had my favorite...Bud Light Lime! On tap! (Yeah, yeah, I know, I drink Budweiser...) yet, this was my first and likely last trip to Champps.
The service and food (I had the Firehouse Burger and my friend had the seaside pasta )was great, but unfortunately, I can't get the bad taste out of my mouth, figuratively, of being slightly embarassed. I was carded for a beer, and my friend who was not drinking was also carded. (I have ZERO problems with this because I understand the utmost care that must be taken with regard to serving liquor.)
Apparently the server didn't think that was enough and the manager came and checked both our IDs PLUS each of our credit cards. That was...indescribable. Couldn't the server have done that herself?
Such a disappointment.
I might give this place a try again in the future...but it will definitely be low on the list.
*Update*
Champps emailed me back and claims that no one recalls this particular incident. Riiiight. Downgrading to one star.
