Chang Hing is what you'd expect from a mediocre American Chinese restaurant, meaning that it's nothing special. There are a few dishes you can count on to be reliable, like the shrimp egg roll and the lo mein, but it's pretty sad when an egg roll is one of the best things on the menu. I don't consider the food to be especially greasy, but I don't recommend getting any kind of fried chicken (general tso's for example) because it will be cooked unevenly and perhaps even inedible.

AWFUL. I mean how can you get fried rice wrong? Not very appetizing... Taste like crap. (Had fried rice and sesame chicken combo). Meh. Definitely below par for American Chinese food.

Cheng Hing is everything a cheap Chinese restaurant should not be. Forgive me my harsh words, but why must there be such a sacrifice of authenticity and effort towards making good Chinese food? I know for a fact that there exists a very achievable balance of price and quality in regards to Chinese food without having to be located right next door to a grocery store. Oh my dear goodness! I've given this place plenty of chances (I've tried their take-out twice, and dined in twice), and I am never ordering from this place again. Sorry if I sound like a bitter snob, but I have no choice.

The first time I dined here was with a friend before winter break. We are seated promptly at a corner next to a family of 3.

    Cool. Onto the menu!

We ordered eggplant with garlic sauce, beef with broccoli, and vegetable dumplings. After waiting 15 minutes, we had our food, each served within a minute of each other.

Eggplant with garlic sauce. Everything was slathered in sauce. As in drowned. There was no consistency in the eggplant, and I could taste none of it. This was not a dish well prepared.

Beef with broccoli. The broccoli was hard as a rock! Undercooked, maybe? Not a good sign. The beef was very chewy. Could barely tear a piece apart without gargantuan effort on my part. What happened there?

The vegetable dumplings. Please, please, please, some redemption. Umm... it tasted like soap. I've actually tasted dishwashing soap before, so I know the taste. The medley of vegetables inside the dumplings were barely warm. Okay. So now the dumplings were formerly frozen dumplings barely but sufficiently steamed, in addition to having a soapy taste? Disaster. We asked for the dish to be taken off our bill, or a substitute dish at the very least. What about the pork dumplings? After two verifications (I don't think the waiter believed us), we got our dish, and... suffice to say, soapy taste. We simply asked for a take out box, paid our dues, and left.

    Take out.

My friend ordered fried dumplings. The delivery person was quite nice and prompt, so kudos. However, he had a chicken dish instead. "I'm sorry sir, but this was not what I ordered". "Sorry." That's it. No offer to substitute or correct the wrong order. Wow. Thanks -.-. How do you mess up an order like that, nevertheless not offer any consolation for it? Ridiculous.
