The majority of Swarthmore students claim Happy Wok is better than Cheng Hing. I beg to differ.
First, how many of them have actually been inside Happy Wok? I have, and it was so dingy and dark (half the lights were off on a cold winter night) that it seriously freaked me out. Looked like the set of a horror movie. Not sure I want to have food that comes from here, even if I had it delivered.
The food itself is pretty standard American Chinese takeout (as in just a notch below mediocre) but the one thing that they do very wrong is fried rice. I've had fried rice from here several times as part of combo plates, and the rice is always grainy and starchy. Properly washed rice should not taste or feel like rocks and whatever dusty chemical they put in the bag to preserve it! Ew!
