Not the first time I've visited Chevy's, although my first review.
Drinks: They have decent spread of Margaritas that can set the mood up, but not a wide variety for  a place with Full bar.
Entrees: Fairly few veggie options, I mean not many exclusives. Its more like "pick-ur-choice-and-we'll-make-it-veggie" kinds.
The nice part is, in recent times looks like they've come up with an updated menu where in they have few veggie exclusives.
My friends and I went to this Chevys after having dinner at a restaurant nearby to grab some drinks and watch the game. Great location with plenty of parking available! There is an outside seating area, but the restaurant is roomy inside!
We each ordered our own Mexican bulldog. It's Chevys' refreshing frozen margaritas with a coronita flipped upside down! They have several flavors you can choose from... Peach, Mango, Strawberry, and Melon.... I ordered the Midori Melon one which was alright. It didn't taste like "melon" to me at all. My friend ordered the peach flavored Mexican Bulldog, which almost tasted like mine. On the upside two of my friends enjoyed their mango flavored Mexican Bulldog.
I'd recommend coming here during their HH!
What happened to Chevy? It's been a few years since I've been to one but the last I remembered, I really liked it. I remembered warm fresh chips and salsa and excellent food. Not this time! The mood felt cold from the moment we walked in the door. Chips and salsa tasted old and so did the rice that came with my food. The waitress talked about how she couldn't wait to get off work and go home. For a Saturday night, this place was dead. What happened to you Chevys? If I want some "fresh" Mexican food, next time I'm going to have to go somewhere else.
Review Source:I usually save my review writing for restaurants that don't have hundreds of other locations but I felt this Chevys, mainly the bar area, deserved my props. Â On numerous occasions, my friends and I have come for their infamous 2pm-closing happy hour after taking some rough exams, and most recently our FINAL final exams! Â 14 girls ready to enter the medical field, but first, ready to get smashed!! Â
We kept adding to our order before our server could bring us our previously ordered drinks, but he was ON IT! Â Margaritas and beers by the buckets, chips and salsa up the wazoo, I'm not normally impressed by chain restaurants but I've only had good times here. Â Quick and attentive service and totally accommodating, this Chevys will always have a special place in my heart!
Oh my globbbb the happy hour here is from 2pm-close?!!
I love Chevy's and this one does it right. Most recently I got the Fresh Mex sampler and everything that came with it was on point. The flautas, the chicken wings, the fajita nachos and the quesadillas. Chips and Salsa always fresh. It was a phone order and it was definitely ready when we got there. The host was also very friendly! One thing I regret is that I didn't have a chance to try the magaritas :( Next time. I'd for sure go here again.
Came here for a coworker's birthday. Chevy's is a good place to go for a birthday to be embarrassed with your very own sombrero, and some free flan (this location gave ice cream in a cone type thing).
The complimentary chips and salsa are the best part of the meal I think, along with a margarita if you can. Which, unfortunately I couldn't partake in since I was going back to work. Doh!
The only thing I ever order here is the chicken flautas, which is standard at every location I've been to. Side of rice and beans, and the corn cake is more carbs for me to indulge in!
Service was okay, but it was pretty busy for a Friday afternoon so we didn't have the best service.
Overall, a good dining experience, and my coworker has left the sombrero to make others wear on their birthday!
A lot of people completely knock Chevy's as terrible, non-authentic Mexican food. It is not authentic--no one can negate this fact, BUT the food isn't terrible.
Once in a while I will have a Chevy's craving. The meal begins with all you can eat chips. Their chips are always crunchy, and they have really flavorful, chunky chipotle salsa. No complains there. I ordered the Farmer's Market Enchilada. It came out cold, and I really didn't like the sauce. They did warm it again, upon request, but I still wasn't really satisfied with the dish. Sometimes you just order the wrong thing! But, the one dish that is great is the veggie fajitas. These come out piping hot with fresh tortillas and more than enough food for two to three dinners. The sweet corn tamalito is also a Chevy's signature. I could eat a plate of this sweet, creamy corn and never tire of the taste! It is probably the highlight of going to Chevy's, and I savor every bite.
Chevy's is also pretty cheap, and there are always coupons.
The service is nothing to complain or rave about--it's just there. Nothing really stands out a fantastic or terrible.
This location is pretty large and for the weekday, can actually be crowded. But, there are so many tables that there usually isn't a wait. The weekend is another story. There can sometimes be a brief wait on the weekend. Other times we have had to wait up to almost forty five minutes.
Basically, I don't go to Chevy's much, but it can be a great deal and pretty decent food IF you order the right dish.
look, it's a corporate mexican joint.
my colleague/foodie friend was craving mexican. Â it was a weeknight. Â she had a coupon for two. Â it was too hot to cook. Â
we (well i) had a strawberry margarita, chips, and fajitas. Â food was served quick and the server kept trying to get me to drink another huge margarita. Â (they are huge to me)-- Â i didn't wanna walk five miles back home or leave my prius in the parking lot, only to pick it up the next morning, so i opted for a cup of coffee instead.
it was super slow--we got there around 8/30, maybe even later?
there was a young trio slamming shots, dancing to the music, and wishing they were someplace else. Â reminded me of being 20 something and obnoxious. Â simultaneously, i was happy to see them enjoying themselves. Â besides, we sat in the bar area--
i'm not sure why i'm giving a four star rating--service was good and everything worked out fine--maybe because it's not my first choice to crave to be there...
I was reading the dreadful earlier reviews of this place but when I came last thursday, my family had a blast. This place was crowded. We had a party of 8 and we got seated quickly with chips and salsa coming super fast. Drink orders some beers, sodas and  margaritas. The chips and salsa kept getting refilled atleast 3 times.
Our server Servando was super attentive. He nor the cooks did not mess up on any of our dinner entrees. The food was hot and tasted great. Since the Redwood City restaurant closed last year im glad that because of the service here is excellent and much more convenient to drive here than Foster City we'll start patronizing this place much more often.
This is faux-mexican food. The only thing that really looks appetizing is their fajita plate (pronounced: FAH-HEE-TAH, not vagina with an F) because it is actually still sizzling. They also have handheld devices for you to order some drinks and apps and desserts, but there is still a waiter for you. It was my moms birthday (she loves this place, I have no clue why) and she said NO singing. So I asked a waiter to play her a song while WHISPERING. He said he understood... but he didn't. The whole crew came and ruined my moms birthday and I was to blame :(
Review Source:Yes...a 4-star review for a restaurant chain. I have a strange addiction to Chevy's chips and salsa, and their Chili Relleno's. This was the first time at this particular Chevy's and it is arguably the best one I've been to. The service was friendly and well-paced and the place had a good vibe. After three baskets of chips and salsa, it was on to my combo with two Relleno's and a Pork Tamale. The Relleno's were awesome, and the biggest I've ever seen at a Chevy's (spicy too). Had one gigantor Relleno to take back to the hotel for a late night poaching. It disappeared quickly. Thumbs up to this particular Chevy's!
Review Source:I have been eating at this Chevy's for over 10 years and was VERY disappointed on my last visit here. Arriving on a Tuesday it was more packed than usual which lead not only to our food coming out slower than usual, but also the wait staff was not as attentive to what I am used to.
This however was only just the beginning. I did not look at the menu as I know it very well from growing up in this restaurant. The wait staff (waiter and host) failed to inform me that they had changed their menu, starting on that Tuesday! When my plate of food (a 2 combo plate of cheese enchilada and soft chicken taco) came out it did not look like I had remembered. Green sauce, not red, smaller tortilla size, and smaller portions of the beans and rice overall, but still the same price!! Did they think their customers wouldn't notice??
I always go to Chevy's for the huge portion sizes and the consitency of their food. I will not be returning unless they go back to their old menu.
Did I mention I found GLASS PIECES in my meal?
A rep contacted me about my review and promised that a regional manager was going to contact me about my horrible experiences. This was several months ago and I'm still waiting on that regional manager.
They clearly don't care about their patrons. I will not be going back to this Chevy's, ever, and I will tell anyone that listens not to go either.
I was telling a friend of mine about my two horrible Chevy's experiences. She laughed at me, saying it couldn't possibly have been that bad. It was her birthday and I still had two free meals from the general manager, so I allowed her to persuade me to give it one more try.
We arrived and many things have been updated. Our server was pleasant and joked around with us. Our drinks never went empty. We ran into a hiccup when they were out of the same special menu item that I tried to order last time, but that was it. I was so astonished that we had great service and the food was fantastic that I pulled aside the manager on duty to tell him how horrified I'd been before and how pleasantly surprised I was on this visit.
The best part? We were celebrating my friend's birthday, as I mentioned before. She doesn't like being embarrassed by big productions and giant sombreros. The server quietly brought her a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it and assured her he wasn't going to surprise her with singing waitstaff.
I don't feel like I can give a 4 or 5 star review simply because at this point, my bad experiences with this place still outnumber the good. But after the last visit, I am more inclined to give them a chance.
I really wish Chevy's would stop changing their menu! Â I get that they are having troubles and a lot of their restaurants have been closed but seriously, pick a menu, perfect it, and than do it well! People would still come back even if your customer service is shytty as long as your food was excellent!
I stopped in here for happy hour recently, let me tell you for a Mexican joint this was a pretty empty happy hour, which means the fate of this location doesn't look good either. Â I always sit at the bar here because like the rest of the reviews say, their restaurant staff do really suck. Â
The Bartender was attentive, got my chips and salsa right away and took my drink order while I looked at their new menu. Â I have to admit I was very disappointed to see they removed the BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad from their menu, that was by far one of their best Salads on their menu and my favorite. Â So, I decided on the Fajita Steak Salad. Â When it came out, it was made table, or should I say, Bar side. The salad unfortunately, was just bland, and god forbid they actually put some steak on the salad! it came with about 3 or 4 small slices of steak, let's put it this way, I had to actually look for it in all the lettuce, it was pathetic. Â The dressing didn't have any flavoring and when I did find the steak it didn't even taste seasoned. The only thing that saved the salad was the grilled onions and avocado. Â Needless to say, I ate more chips and salsa.
I use to really like Chevy's and was sorry to hear they where going through a rough time, but considering the service and the quality of food these days, no wonder. Sorry, Chevy's, but the competition is too thick and there are way better places to go to for Fresh Mex.
I go here if I'm in the mood for Chevy's Mexican food, and its close to work. Â However, it seems like they hardly have enough staff at lunch time. Â No one is at the front to greet anyone, and I always have to wait at least 5 minutes to be seated....because no one is there!
Food is typical Chevy's food...nothing to complain about.
My biggest gripe is with the lack of service and the wait time for getting seats, then getting food, then getting the check. Â Meh.
Chevy's, you are my go to take out Mexican. Tasty chips. Tasty Tortillas. Tasty guacamole.
Chevy's catered lunch at work last Thursday. It was good. We had 2 salads, soft tacos, quesadillas, hard tacos, and chips/salsa/guacamole. It was served buffet style in big aluminum tins.
The quesadillas were good. The hard tacos kinda fell apart, but that's because they sit in their juices and the shell break down and become flimsy. :(
Overall, decent. I would order from them again, but maybe next time, burritos...
Minus 1 star for scaring the crap out of me with the hat on my birthday!!! Seriously, the waiter snuck up behind me and shoved the hat on my head while the other guys suddenly (and kind of magically) appeared and started singing! No, seriously, it was nice. But he really did scare me with that hat! I like Chevy's, have always liked the food and waiters are good. And I got a free entree for my birthday! My favorite things are the flautas with that delicious spicy-sweet dipping sauce. The food is consistently good and the fried ice cream is to die for, as well as the brownie sundae. I also think the salsa is some of the best I have had in any Mexican restaurant.
Even with larger groups I have been happy here.
A big fan of the free chips and salsa.. Now happy hour might make me LOVE chevy's!
Came here with my girly for happy hour.. we had margaritas and the fajita nachos and chicken flauntas. For the most part we were well attended to but as the night drew on.. service was hard to flag down.
My "friends" took me here on my birthday so I could experience what Mexico is really like.
I told them to not ask the waiters to sing Happy Birthday to me, but Steve did anyway. I think the sight of a 25-year-old man crying into his Shirley Temple may have scared away some clientes.
Anyway, all of my food tasted like tears.
What would happen if Sammy Hagar and Mister Rogers went into business together and opened a Mexican restaurant? It'd be a lot like Chevy's - lots of wild colors and references to tequila, but white-bread enough to bring the kids to.
This place looks like the typical suburban Mexican joint. Bright decor and a festive atmosphere try their best to make you forget you're a mile away from a Wal-Mart.
The menu itself is pretty standard fare as well - your garden variety variations on nachos, burritos, fajitas, tacos and such. I opted for enchiladas that day and, while not terrible, lacked any real flavor. Are these chefs afraid of using salt? While the refried beans were decent, the rice tasted kinda stale.
Salsa w/the chips? Sure, but it was pretty watered down.
Still, a two-star joint gets a bump to three stars thanks to one of their drink items - their Cadillac margarita, which came with a chaser of Grand Marnier. SCORE! That's like finding a $20 on the ground while doing the walk of shame.
If I come back, it'll be for drinks only.
Four stars for Chevy's? Â Yes. Â Why? Â Because it is what it is.
Again, every once in a while, I enjoy some "El Gringito" Mexican Food. Â Chevy's is often a great place to get a strongly flavored plate of chow. Â The chips are paper thin and the salsa rocks here. Â
Authentic Mexican? Â Well, they try to at least simulate genuine Mexifood, and the result is tasty and filling. Â I've been to many traditional Mexican joints and the beans are almost flavorless in some places. Â NOT HERE [snicker] --holy crap! Â The margaritas are pretty good too, and the service was top class.
This place is fun--that's why you go to Chevy's, right? Â My wife and I had a blast. Â Highly recommended
I came here with my aunt and bestfriend. We were in Mountain View to pick up my aunt's new car and we were hungry so we decided to drive around and find something. And we found this.
I was in the mood for some mexican food. I'm glad there wasn't a waiting time to be seated. We got our meals quick and my steak quesodilla was pretty good. I should have asked them to separate the guacamole, salsa and sour cream :P
My aunt asked the waiter if we could take the complimentary chips to go, I have no idea why she did, but the waiter kept refusing to let us take the chips even though we touched them. So, does that mean they re-use the chips since he said we couldn't take them? What else are they gonna do with them besides throw them away? Or serve them to another family? That's why I deducted one star because of that caution.
I came in here around 4pm with 3 friends and asked the staff if we could sit at the tables in the restaurant since we were going to have a large party. Â Chevy's response was you can sit at the bar and as you take it up eventually migrate towards the tables. Â Hmmm? Â I think their issue was that since we came for happy hour our party needed to be confined to a confined space. Â I don't think they understood that all of us wanted to sit with each other. Â That is the point of coming to an establishment as a group. Â Well about 20 people later, and moving 5 tables to make one long table that if anything was potential for a fire hazard, I think the staff realized it would have been both easier and safer to seat us together in the restaurant in the beginning. Â After all we all ordered both food and drinks. Â Yes, the alcoholic kind. Â And many of them.
My one complaint was something tasted very wrong about the salsa and our chips were burned. Â Chevy's, regardless of location, always delivers on the chips and salsa. Â Major fail! Â
Regardless, you can't go wrong with $3 drink and appetizer specials. Â I split nachos, spicy wings, and more nachos along with 3 large margaritas for a grand total of $15. Â Now that is a deal.
Came here on a Friday night at around 6:45. Â Here is the good news/bad news: Â Chevy's has happy hour in their Cantina from 3-7 on Mondays through Fridays. Â So if you like great deals (ie, $3 margaritas and appetizers), this is fantastic news. Â However, at least on Friday, it was really busy here. Â There was a 20 to 30 minute wait to be seated for dinner and the parking lot was full. Â
It still averages out to a 4 star rating because their tortilla chips were back to being perfectly fried. Â Oh, and the balloon lady was there and remembered my kids. :-)
The 3 stars are for the yummy chips and salsa, and the better-than-expected Caesar salad. Â I feel like it's a bit overpriced though, and service was enh. Â We walked in and the guy on the phone ignored us until another woman came, rolled her eyes at him, then seated us.
I wouldn't mind coming here with a group since everybody can probably find something they like, but I wouldn't come here for myself.
Q: What do jail and Chevy's have in common? Â A: You don't want your salad tossed at either of these places.
Went here last night because it was a late work night and we wanted something quick. Â Parking was atrocious even at 7:30pm and I almost got into two accidents in the small parking lot. Â The wait wasn't long but after about 6 years I forgot how loud this place can get.
We ordered the grilled fajita salad which comes freshly grilled and "tossed at your table". Â In reality, I guess we were more paying for that service than the quality of food. Â OK, I take that back the food was OK but for $12 it was a pathetically small portion. Â I was indeed full but only because I had 4 glasses of water and two baskets of chips along with this. Â For $12 you can get a 50% larger salad at BJs without a salad tossing (heh).
And I came home later realizing that flecks of dressing were on my shirt. Â That sucked.
How you appropriately have a pre-4th of July observation while at work?
Add a handful of crispy, lightly salted chips with a dish of medium spicy salsa. (free!)
Next, include a top shelf margarita for that light worktime buzz. ($7)
Throw in a surprisingly great chicken quesodilla with great tortilla soup. Â ($8.99 for a combo)
Finally, top it off with a silly song and chevy's somberro to add to the lunch time festivities. (free on your birthday)
Ole!
Who wants authentic Mexican food? I've had it while visiting the Yucatan Peninsula deep in Mexico and it SUCKS. So those who whinge about authenticity don't know what they're talking about (or have the taste buds of ants) because almost all the Mexican food served in the U.S. has evolved way past its origins and it is not authentic Mexican food (thank God).
That being said, I love Chevy's! Their food is GREAT. They have crispy, fresh tortilla chips served with amazing salsa, deliciously tender tortillas that are made at the restaurant (see the tortilla maker in plain sight that makes them all day long!), enchiladas to die for, flautas I'm addicted to, a chicken tortilla soup that kicks ass, and I need I go on?
The service is excellent, fast, friendly, efficient, and always, always attentive. That's a helluva lot more than I can say for 90% of the restaurants I've tried in Mountain View, which seems full of pretentious, crappy ones. It's a pleasure to find one that is not only not full of attitude, but serves good food.
And since it's been mentioned, the decor is on par with any other big chain restaurant. It's bright, festive, clean, and who cares after that? This placed is packed for a reason. And yet my friends and I have never waited to be seated. As for the prices, Chevy's is far from expensive and is well within range of what's normal for this day and age.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant bar none and I, for one, am grateful the food is not authentic Mexican and actually has flavor.
Yah that's right, FIVE STARS.
- I called ahead and got my name on the waiting list. When I got to the restaurant there were like 30 people waiting for a table. We were seated with NO WAIT.
- We came with our baby and they gave us some kinda baby holder. Never seen anything like it. Very nice of them.
- Our waitress was great. Prompt and friendly service. Checked on us constantly, refilled drinks, chips, tortillas, brought the check as soon as we were ready for it.
- Food came out like five minutes after we ordered, and the place was packed.
- Some guy came to our table and made a balloon for us. Nice touch.
Please people, it's Tex-Mex, not "100% Complete-Authentic-Mexican." And as far as Tex-Mex chains go, this is a damn fine location. Freshly made chips, freshly made tortillas, and the food is pretty good.
Look...I can't complain. Â Many of you might argue it ain't ethnic enough, not street enough...but what other legitimate roach coach offers fresh home made tortillas warm of the grill...
If you do, hit me up and let me know-your grandma's house does not count! Â I had the watermelon lemon-ADE and shrimp fajitas that are currently running on their ads. Â The TV made me come in, and they were good. Â Service was fast, but there was a birthday party right next to me and the kids kept hitting my chair. Â It comes with the territory...the whole sombrero birthday gett-up...when you go to these places. Â I knew it, expected it, embraced it...and ate!
