i will never go back here.

it was dinnertime on a saturday and the place was completely empty. not a good sign at all - and i will keep kicking myself in the groin (?) every time i do that, since i've done it once at ANOTHER sushi restaurant. shame on me.

i understand AYCE buffets. and the "smart" thing to do, would be to make the requirement that if one person orders the buffet, the whole table has to as well. shiroi hana does it. house of sushi does it. it's smart. house of sushi has signs posted up everywhere saying, if you dont eat all your food, you pay extra! or, everyone MUST order AYCE if one person does! it makes sense. at chikurin, if you dont require the entire table to order the buffet, you have to assume that it will be shared and take that risk. the waitress gave me the STINK EYE when i even looked at my man's buffet plate. and of course, we were the only ones in there, so she was staring the entire time. what a TURN OFF!

and not only was that bad, the FOOD SUCKED BALLS! hard! bad grade sushi, wasabi-soaked gyoza (which should never ever be served to humans). it was nasty.

it's the worst when mean asians stare and judge you while you eat. *childhood flashbacks*

Fellow Yelpers, STAY AWAY!

Walked in with an open mind despite the reviews being poor. For a Saturday night at 7:30 the restaurant was completely empty. Nonetheless we were hoping the restaurant would be good and were willing to give it a chance.

We opted for the sushi all you can eat menu and my girlfriend ordered a spider roll off the menu. The waitress was cold and unhelpful while ordering. The food took forever to come out. it was sitting on the sushi bar for a good 15 minutes before she brought it out.

When the food arrived the waitress explicitly stated that we cannot share food since my girlfriend did not order off the menu. Which was fair but her delivery of that statement was condescending and rude. She then had the audacity to stare at my girlfriend like a hawk for the next 20 minutes while we ate making sure she did not pick off my plate.

I ordered the potstickers, gyoza, dragon roll, summer seafood, and white tuna & yellowtail nigiri.

THE CHEF FORGOT THE FLAVOR! It was all BLAND!!

All the potstickers were frozen and deep fried with absolutely no flavor.
The fish was nonexistent in the rolls.
The rolls and nigiri we're padded with extra rice.
The fish in the nigiri was cut so paper thin that part of the rice was exposed through the fish.

I ate about a quarter of the order and asked for the check, i couldn't take anymore of this bland food. i politely told the waitress that we weren't too happy with the food and asked for the check.

instead of apologizing she said that her manager said to charge us an extra 1 per piece of food left over, totaling 17 dollars on top a $19.00 buffet order.

Again NO APOLOGIES from staff or management.
So disappointed and upset.

Just purchased a gift certificate on http://restaurant.com for this place. When I got here there was a sign on the door that said they no longer accept them ... I just checked and they are still listed for sale on the site. This does not make sense and is rude!

Decided not to even try the place since they pulled this on me. I will go to the other places on Division for now on. Not cool!

We purchased a http://restaurant.com coupon for this restaurant just a few days ago, but when we arrived we noticed a sign on the door that said they no longer honor http://restaurant.com coupons! And, indeed, they would not accept the coupon we purchased less than a week ago. Also disappointed to be told, after we sat down, that they are "deactivating" their kitchen and are serving only appetizers and sushi, not at all how they describe themselves and not at all what we were looking forward to (see other Yelp reviews!). The items we ordered were decent enough, but we do not expect to return. Seems very sketchy that they are still on the http://restaurant.com list but refusing to honor the coupons. Wonder what http://restaurant.com might have to say about the situation?

Friendly knowledgeable staff, tidy shop, good food. The shrimp tempura maki, spicy salmon maki and edamame were delish. Its BYOB (corkage fee) and the bar also serves hard to find Ginger liquor, and several varieties of cold or hot sake. A solid 4 star.

Sushi was fresh, but rather small menu. However, they have other menu items as it's a Japanese / Chinese / Thai restaurant.

I visited the restaurant with 3 other people. I had the standard spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and scallop makis and they were smaller pieces, but fresh. My sister and brother-in-law ordered their special makis (volcano and godzilla). The portions were huge and presentation was great. My fiancee ordered the panang curry and it had just the right spice to it.

Overall, the food was fresh and good portions (including appetizers). The reason why it's a 3 is because it was slow service for a Sunday night.

I've been here twice now-the first time was mediocre, and I probably wouldn't have gone back except that my husband wanted sushi and there was parking so he picked. The second time was awful. The server was super nice, but very slow and air headed. She rang in the wrong sushi roll then instead of offering to replace it just said "oh, sorry about that". Then she totally FORGOT to bring my entree, which I was also sharing with my daughter. It got to be so long before I even saw her again that I told her just to forget it-I mean, how do you forget to ring in the thing that 2 out of the 3 people are eating? Sushi was okay but not great, crab rangoon was good the first time but not good the second. With so many other asian places around, I wouldn't go back.

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night and we had a blast. I usually have my doubts about Asian fusion restaurants that offer a bunch of different Asian cuisines ala sushi, Chinese, noodles, etc., but Chikurin did an admirable job. Of course we stuck mainly to sushi, but I was pleased by everything we ordered. The Dragon roll was much larger than expected, and the fish tasted fresh. The gyoza was fried nicely and served with a delicious sauce.

What really stood out to me was the service. Our server was really cool, and knowledgeable. We were hungry and ordered with reckless abandon and she actually stopped us and said that it was probably enough food. We were so full and thankful later! She also gave us a couple of free carafes of hot sake (we were craving some, but they were all out earlier).

We had a great time and would definitely return.

My husband and I ordered take out from here on a Thursday night. It was a 30 minute wait, which we didn't think anything of until we picked it up and there were 2 people eating in there. What takes so long? If you order from Zen Noodles the place could be packed and it takes 10 minutes. The sushi was just ok. Not super fresh, nothing memorable but not terrible. We were taking bets on how soon it will close. We figure by summer, so if you really want to try it you should hurry, but I wouldn't recommend.

I am bummed because I wanted this place to be good....and truth be told, the one server/hostess for the whole restaurant was nice, and so was the buss person who assisted her. Here is the problem though, we could not interact with the restaurant because they were so completely overwhelmed and so unprepared in so many ways and when you cant interact with the restaurant...what is the point of being there?

We went on a Saturday night.....

We brought our own wine but couldn't drink it because they had no clean wine glasses..we were fine drinking out of any type of glass, they finally got some to us....probably 20 to 30 minutes after sitting down....

Took an hour and 20 minutes to get to the ordering of our entrees...when they did arrive only 4 of 6 arrived to the table and I never got mine....

We were situated near the servers station so we poured our own waters...because we wanted more water.....

You get the point. The food that did arrive was good, it was just really not fun.....too bad.

Good luck Chikurin, I hope you get it together.....

Great food, good prices, great service.

Tried this place with a http://restaurant.com coupon and would go back at full price. The server was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant was fairly empty for a Saturday night, but it looked like they had a pretty steady take-out business. Interior is nothing too exciting, but the food was great, including the HUGE pot stickers. The rolls are great and well priced. Recommend the Green Turtle. FYI, there is a corking fee - believe it is $7.

Went there with a http://restaurant.com coupon. I'd say it is a pretty good find. We ordered a variety of things:

Pot-sticker: pretty yummy. I make them myself from scratch so I am picky, just wish the meat to dough ratio was higher.

Tempura: excellent, crispy, hot, not greasy, nicely priced

Various Sushi: very nice prepared, everything tasted fresh

Sesame Chicken: pretty good, not the best but for a pan Asian restaurant, can't be great at everything, broccoli was over cooked

Chinese Fried Rice: excellent

Phad Thai: on the sweet side, but good

Mongolian Beef: excellent, no criticisms

Honey Walnut Prawn: taste was good but texture was weird, waitress said it depends on the day you order it, since they don't prepare it on a daily basis

service: good, but for a while we were the only table there so I would expect good service :-) waitress was very friendly, maybe too friendly?? its all good though. We were entertained, she had a great playlist for the music, lots of eighties ballads and 90's R&B

I'm reviewing a delivery, which definitely affected my experience negatively. Received the order in about 40 minutes, positive start overall. Ordered the Orange Peel and the Tom Kar soup. The Orange Peel might as well have been a microwaved dinner by the time I got it. The menu calls this dish "crispy," I promise you it's lying. The dish was overly sweet and sloggy. Not sure whether sloggy is officially a word, but if it is, it might describe this dish well. Maybe like a combination of soggy and sloppy.

I love Tom Kah soup done right. Tom Kar sounded similar enough to test based on the menu description. It was bad. When soup has an excessive amount of inedible bay leaves and other wiry plants floating & sinking around, I lose interest. When my Tom Kah tastes/smells like Fruit Loops, I'm dumping down the sink (be sure you have a garbage disposal!)

Also got some free edamame. Didn't eat more than 2 pieces. Cold and wimpy.

I will not order from here again, but I am not qualified to recommend against eating in. I blame most of the quality issues with the delivery.

Delicious appetizers, but mediocre sushi. Didn't try the thai food so maybe I'll try that next time.

The dynamite mussels were tasy and flavorful with a little kick.

The salmon tartar was pretty fresh as well. Served on tostito chips.

We tried the Red Dragon - the fish wasn't as fresh as it could be. Not horrible, but nothing memorable.

Next time we'll just go back for appetizers.

There wasn't anyone in there, but my group.

The sushi was fine, but the noodle dishes were not good.

No problems w/ service or ambience!

Didn't enjoy the food enough, to go back.

Good thing is there is a parking lot.

Pretty good! While feeling cheap and in the mood for sushi, my husband and I found Chikurin on http://restaurant.com and decided to give it a shot. Between us we got a spicy tuna roll, a California roll, the Szechwan chicken, yaki udon, and tempura appetizer. The sushi was good- pretty average but we're not huge sushi people so it hit the spot. Both the Szechwan chicken and noodle dish were delicious- very fresh, a variety of vegetables and interesting flavors. Tempura was yummy.

It does still seem new, though. The appetizer came out last, everything came out at different times. However, the waitress was great, very attentive especially since she was waiting on the entire restaurant (about 10 tables that night) by herself since the other called in.

Decor was interesting, very modern and tasteful.

Would return, especially with the coupon.

I think the place is very classy looking on the inside and the service was good. The food was decent and priced fairly but it was just a little bland compared to the sushi I've had at other places in the neighborhood.

just got back from dinner.

first things first - the space is super nice! very nicely decorated, nice sushi bar, nice lighting. very classy and modern.

we got miso soup which was pretty good. although i've never had bad miso soup, this was lacking in tofu which was kind of a bummer.

got salmon, super white tuna and yellowtail sashimi; all of which were pretty good. especially the super white tuna!

got the philly roll, green turtle, and hawaii. the cucumber in the philly tasted weird which threw off the taste of the whole roll. the hawaii was kind of small and kind of bland, you couldn't taste the mango until the end. i liked the green turtle the best. however, all of the rolls didn't have that large of chunks of fish.

regardless, really nice presentation/dishes. and our waitress was super nice and friendly. food was simply mediocre.

This place is advertised as a Thai restaurant on GrubHub, so I kind of assumed it was a Thai restaurant, not a sushi bar. Now it makes sense that their Thai food was only mediocre.

I tried the pad thai. It was okay... Nothing that would make me order from this place again.

The Thai Beef Salad was okay too, but it was really watery at the bottom to the point where I had a bowl full of water mixed with dressing at the end of the salad. The beef was chewy and had gristle on it too.

Pass for next time. Maybe I'll try the sushi portion of this restaurant that obviously doesn't specialize in Thai food.

AOK delivery...a friendly man arrived to my door within about an hour, nice!

Tom Kar soup: coconutty ("coconuts, you are super delightful!") with chicken and jalapenos, mushrooms. Not anything crazy exciting, but did the trick on a blustery evening. Could've used a bit more substance and spice.

Sashimi App: 6 or so pieces. Ok. Not out-of-this-world fresh and fantastic, but certainly not flawed. Just not, impressive? I don't know. Of course I'd rather have a maki roll doused in mayo with unagi babies running all up in it, fried in tempura...now THAT would've been good, but I'm going to Mexico in less than 2 weeks, so I'll just eat the semi-chewy plain fish and be happy about it.

Seaweed salad: A big fat ZERO. Overly sweet, soggy, and not crunchy at all. I threw almost the entire thing away.

So...? AOK. That's all I gotta say. I probably won't order again, but may be worth a stop in the neighborhood. Also have Thai, Chinese, full sushi, etc.

Sushi was good, but as others have stated, VERY spaced out. Waited a long time just for nigri which was first to come out and my co-diner already had received her thai dish. Ended up picking off her plate for quite some time before the rolls came out. Will go back because it is close to my house, but definitely not my favorite sushi place in the neighborhood.

Really more of a 3 1/2 for me but maybe when I go back to try their Thai menu it'll sway me that direction.

Went in for lunch today and thought it was good value at $12 for an option of soup or salad, california or spicy tuna roll, and 5 pieces of nigiri.

Opted for the salad which was maybe a little overdressed for my liking but their ginger dressing was pretty much right on the money so I enjoyed it overall.

Fish seemed fresh enough (also, it was a Monday which usually makes me a little wary of sushi but was fine).

The main issue for me was that the rice didn't really hold together when I went to pick up each piece, making for a somewhat frustrating trip to my mouth.

Place wasn't especially busy but service was attentive and friendly.

So I wasn't wowed by the food but tasted fine and I thought the lunch special was good value. I believe they've got potential to really get it right here and I hope they do before I head back for the other side of the menu and to take advantage of their BYOB option when its not lunchtime . . .

When the highlight of a meal is the appetizer, then you've got some work to do.

The dynamite mussels were as advertised, very good flavor, right amount of spices, and filled to the brim with crustaceancy goodness.

The meal went entirely downhill after that though. Tried the kung pao chicken, which was totally bland. There was literally a vacuum of flavor sucking in the entire dish.

Unfortunately, the sushi came next, and it too got sucked into the vortex of vapidity. The spicy tuna, turtle and the indistinguishable #5 rolls were all mediocre at best.

At least the prices aren't gouging your wallet, but still, there are 10 better sushi/thai places in a 4 block radius.

I dined in about a week ago and I really liked it. The sushi was fresh. I sat at the "bar" which has no drinks as of yet. They're waiting on their liquor license. The staff was great and wanted feedback on everything I had. I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all and I'm not usually a fan of the combination kitchens. I only tried the sushi and will definitely try the Chinese.

I liked this place a lot, but as noted in other reviews, it's just not quite there yet. The sushi was great, really fresh, great presentation. The decor is very chic and unexpected - I had imagined it to be your standard Asian decor but they clearly steered away from that and opted for something more modern.

My only complaints are the timing on the sushi, as the first reviewer had stated, was really spaced out. I think we spent a total of 1.5 hours there. They should hire another sushi chef or something to alleviate the workload. We were 1 of 3 table in the restaurant at the time too so I don't know how they'll handle a full dining room.

Our server was also really spacy. She lacked experience and was not attentive at all. We had so many empty plates and bottles on our table that we wound up putting them on an empty table next to us just to make some space. I really wish I'd gotten another server though since everyone else is raving about their great staff experience.

I'll be back though, for sure. The fish was extremely fresh and the rolls were great.

This place is pretty good!! I ordered out about four or five times in the last three weeks. They're a bit expensive-especially with how many sushi places are around the area..but it is very good food. I would suggest the godzilla roll, dynamite roll, and I can't remember whether it is the aloha or hawaii roll..but these specials are awesome. Don't go with a spring roll. It's nothing special in my opninion. The last time I ordered I found a hair in two of my rolls. Gross. Only downsides are the price and this hair. but really good quality and worth a try!

Nice ambience. Great Staff. Generous Portions. Easy locations. What did these guys forget? Oh yeah, the *actual* food.

Hope these are just initial hiccups and the food gets better. It's not bad, just that it tastes like nothing - really. No flavorings or spices come through.

I give this place 3 stars because it's allllmost there. I've dined in and carried out here.

Dining in was very pleasant. Their decor and presentation is very strong. The staff is attentive and I love the BYOB. I ordered Dragon and Volcano roll. Both were very tasty and fresh.

Tonight I ordered carry out since i had had such a pleasant first experience. 2nd time around... not so much. Do NOT order the spicy tuna roll. Not fresh and the kind of sushi that is mixed in with fillers. Very disappointing. The rainbow roll was... eh.... Not as good as I was hoping for. I also tried my boyfriend's pad thai - it was pretty bland. Definitely needs more flavor.

Overall - they deserve 3 stars because I can tell that they are working hard, but need to seriously step up their game if they want to compete with other asian restaurants in the area.

I totally disagree with the review below me. I seen the sign of new sushi place so me and my sister wanted to try it out since they have a 15% discount and their prices are incredible!!! We had the Samon tar tar and i have got to say, It is a must try. We also tryed the spicy samon hand roll and the muscles they were all speechless. I don't know what fishy smell or pait smell the dude below me is talking about....he must of stuck some of that fish in his nose or something. I was really surprise that the place is so neat and cozy. I normally go to green tea sushi but due to the small cramped space there i would deffinately be returning here instead. Their sushi is just as great and i don't have to wait for a table. I love this place! My number one spot for the moment.

I believe this fledgling sushi joint still has a long way to go. Cheesey sign aside, the atmosphere is pleasant. However, it still has new paint smell looming in the air (mixed with a faint fishy odor = eek) Water was unexpectedly cucumber flavored. Service was fair. Food was ill-timed. My friend could have finished her meal before my sushi was delivered. (spicy salmon maki - ok & tuna maki NOT recommended) Pod See - Zwe was fair. In and out in 30 minutes flat. Needless to say, we won't be rushing back anytime soon.
