The Southern

Sooo can we say Bourbon bacon cocktail deliciousness?!  I arrived at Southern with some friends to meet up with a few people.  When we sat down I noticed a girl had bacon in her drink.  Intrigued (mostly because I'd hook bacon up to my veins if I could) I asked about the drink.  It was delicious.  It was smoky, sweet, bourbony and bacony!  Ok back to the restaurant.  It is a casual bar like atmosphere with decent food and good drinks.

The pros:  The waitstaff was very attentive.  They had a $3 beer special.  The food was good.  I had a fried chicken sandwich which had a slaw and a nice sauce on it.  I also ordered the mac and cheese.  The mac and cheese was good, but it didn't blow my mind.  It wasn't overly expensive.  For my meal and about three beers my bill was $35 after tip.

The cons: It gets a little loud.  More bacon...on everything!

I've been to The Southern for a private rehearsal brunch, a regular brunch, dinner and post-dinner drinks. Every time I've been, I've had an awesome time. The restaurant itself is great in both the cold and summer months and the rooftop is an awesome spot in Wicker Park.

The restaurant consists of 2 floors, but usually the second is open in warmer months or when it's really really packed. There's dark wood tables and walls and really taps into the whole "South" theme while maintaining a classy look. I think it's a Mis U bar. I saw a huge crowd of people wearing red and screaming at the TVs on a big game and that was cool. It's a pretty varied space so it can take on and accomodate all kinds of moods or events. I've always been seated promptly (reservations recommended) and had great customer service.

I've had their crab cakes (to die for), french toast, mac and cheese (of course), biscuits and sampled a bunch of their whiskeys. On some nights of the week (Tuesdays, I think), they have live music which is actually good. My fiance loves the drink with the piece of bacon in it and they have every type of fancy liquor under the sun. This place is good for families, couples, friends or college kids. Food and drinks are great and I definitely can't wait to go back!

Cozy place as with a lot of eateries in Wicker Park.  The music was good and the staff was excellent!! The server had some great recemmendations and I went for one.  The Fried Chicken.  It is really one of the best around!! My husband had the Brunch Burger and just loved it!! We showed up on Saturday around 12:30 and that menu did not have the Mac n Cheese they are so famous for.  I'm not sure why but if you ask the server they are more than happy to make you an order.  We are sure glad we asked!! It was the best Mac n Cheese EVER!!!! It is creamy, flavorful and just comforting.  They place on your table Tabasco Sauce and Crystal Hot Sauce both make a great additon to any dish.  We will difentaly go back maybe in the summer when all the doors will be open.  It would be a whole other kind of place then.  Not that it needs to be but it gives it versatility!!
