I got food poisoning here. I'm talking days in agony and missing work because I couldn't be more than 5 feet from a toilet. I nearly landed in the ER due to dehydration. The worst weekend of my entire life, healthwise. Never ever returning to another Chipotle and I hope other people think twice too. That naked burrito cost me a lot more than 7 bucks.
Review Source:If most other Chipotles are 5 stars, I give this one a 3!
I love love love my Chipotle and come to *this* specific location almost every week, mainly for convenience.
You can't go too wrong with a regular burrito bowl, but I'm sad to say my experience has gone downhill with every visit.
For one, unless it's rush hour, your burrito's going to take a few minutes. During the lunch rush, you're in and out, and they make your burritos like speed demons! Otherwise, they'll just take their time and peruse. Guys, I'm still on my lunch break, even if it is at 1:30 p.m.! ):
Secondly, their chicken. Chicken is a no go. They must induce those babies with sodium because it's so much more salty than the ones I'm used to! And when I ask for tomato salsa, they load it UP, so it's super drenched in tomato water (eep).
And finally, today was the day that had me write the Yelp review. As my burrito is being tossed down the line, salad is the last thing to get on my burrito. I see someone pick up a dirty rag, wipe down the counter top, use those same gloves/hands to put lettuce in my bowl. Eep! That was not fun to witness, nor was my burrito fun to eat considering where else those gloves have been.
Chipotle, I love you guys. But this location specifically needs some sort of "check-in" or something. Come in as a "disguised" individual and see for yourself. It's a joke.
The worst experience I've ever had with Chipotle. I usually go for Qdoba but it is Sunday night as they close early at 8pm. So instead I tried the Chipotle store on north Michigan. I ordered a steak burrito and I had to stand and wait for 5min as the cashier was flirting with the man before me, exchanging phone numbers. Â The disgusting part started when I got home and took bites on the burrito. The so called "steak" was half-cooked and half of which were skins and tissues other than meat. I did not even finish the burrito. This has never happened on my steak burritos from Qdoba. Also they don't have wheat tortilla. But comparing to the "steak," that became minor. Rice was also undercooked.
Review Source:Nothing wrong with this Chipotle location. There were not many employees when we walked in but the wait was less than 5 minutes. Our food tasted great as always. The restaurant was pretty clean even though they were busy. Next time I go shopping by the Magnificent Mile, I'll stop in again and use up my gift card. If you haven't done so yet, try their Carnitas if you eat pork. It is pretty amazing.
Review Source:I go through the INSANELY crowded line at this Chipotle location once or twice a week -- and there is one employee there that smiles and acts like asking me if I want cheese on my burrito bowl is the GREATEST thing that's ever happened to him. Â So fast/friendly/personable every time I go. Â I finally asked his name today - so thank you, JOE, for doing a really great job in such a hectic place. Â Tell your boss you deserve a raise -- because you are the reason I walk the extra few steps instead of eating at Corner Bakery, where they act like they are doing me a favor by ignoring their customers to talk to each other and screwing up my order every single time!
Keep it up. Â People notice!
Well, as far as good goes- it's a chipotle and you can expect the same quality as most other chipotles (awesome food). The major complaint at this location is the line, but I really recommend checking out the chipotle iPhone app (not sure if an android version is out). You can order and pay from the app and simply walk to the counter to pick it up when you get there, no waiting in line. The app is great and not having to wait in line is awesome.
Review Source:Ya know, I think I may be the only person in this city that does not care for Chipotle. Â It's not that the burritos aren't huge, they are f'ing gigantic. Â It's not that the meat isn't delicious, it's seasoned to perfection and they don't skimp. Â The veggies are also super fresh. Â You may ask yourself, if everything is so good then why don't you enjoy it? Â I guess it's a classic case of the sum of the parts not creating a perfect whole. Â It's decent, it's filling, a little on the expensive side for burritos though. Â There are plenty of other authentic burrito places that are much better and much cheaper in my very humble opinion.
Review Source:I'm a native Chicagoan who discovered Chipotle at its birthplace, Denver, where I lived for 10+ years. It's cool that it made it to Chicago in the last 10 years but locations seem to vary here, in terms of quality and especially speed. Let's just say they're a lot faster in Denver...Anyway, I go to this location fairly frequently and while they do a great job at peak times of getting people through, later afternoon is another story. Today I went at around 2 and there weren't that many people in line. Still, it took FOREVER to get my veggie tacos. Everyone was nice but just slow and kind of unfocused. If they could just apply the speed and agility they display at rush times all the time, it could be great. The other little issue I have with all Chipotles is that I really wish they had better options for vegetarians. I would love to see zucchini or something in addition to or instead of the "fajita" vegetables, which consists of onions and green peppers.
Review Source:My only complaint with this location is that the line moves slower than the Franklin/Lake location. The line is decent at 11:45 a.m. but is too long after noon. It's a great place to sit in the window and watch the Michigan Ave. crowd walk by.
Can't beat the chipotle steak burrito for a filling and tasty lunch.
My favorite Chipotle!!!!
I remember when they first opened circa 2003 when I worked at the WAMU (now Chase) on Michigan & Lake. They came over and told us they just opened and gave us free burrito cards. That was my first taste of Chipotle ever. Â Almost 8 years later, I am still hooked.
It's Chipotle, blah blah blah.
Tip for this location: hop online and order ahead of time. The line stretches out the door EVERY. DAY. I don't know about you, but I have better things to do than wait in line for 20 precious minutes of my lunch half-hour.
Tip #2: Order online early. Sometimes even ordering online comes with a 40 minute wait.
The staff here is really good though, so that's a bonus.
Minus one star because for as busy as they are, it blows my mind that they only have one cash register. Thumbs down for inefficiency.
I have been a huge fan of Chipotle for years now. Â In college I ate it every other day for a month. Â I know that sounds horrible, but it really wasn't. Â I did have to take a break from it for a few months after that though.
Love Chipotle - the combinations are endless, the food is good, it's affordable, and when I don't feel like getting a veggie bol or tacos it's nice to know they will make me one GIANT cheese quesadilla with extra cheese....yum!
Do you good large tacos, burritos or bowls? Chipotle Mexican Grill has a delicious large burrito that is worth the price for lunch or dinner. You have your choices of the kind of wrap or bowl you would like. Then, you have the choice of the kind of meat and toppings you would like to eat. Add some delicious chips and salsa and a drink to your meal as well. Yummy. The food is good, but not the best which is why I give it a four.
Review Source:I've been a HUGE fan of Chipotle for years. Â I kind of got tired of it for awhile, but it was good to be back in one. Â
Just for fun I've eaten at Chipotle in the following states:
Colorado (original locations)
Washington
Oregon
California
Arizona
Texas
New York (City)
Illinois (this one)
Washington DC
Florida
oh, I'm probably forgetting some but fun to think about.
This location was great! Â I love sitting at the window to people watch and this location has that! Â Great staff, food is always quality. Â Good spot to relax and eat.
They have an awesome weekday deal until April 2010. You get 2 for 1 burritos and burrito bols between 4 and 6 pm. So my husband and I spend 6.75 for 2 bols and that's our dinner EVERY Wednesday.
I really want to give the place 5 stars because the food is delicious and their ingredients are fresh. But I have to knock a star off because they reduce the portions each time I go there. Plus the lines are loooooooong. But that's not really their fault, is it?
yum yum yum! Â easy order, quick lunch especially if you call ahead. Â Another option is to fax or do your order online. Â
anything your order here is fab. Â I love burrito bowl, no beans, extra rice. Â Guac is always on point, too
i wish there were more around  (poof- wish granted?)
Why waste my time and rate Chipotle? Because it got me through college. And long shopping sprees. And breakups (not really, but it could).
Of all the Chipotles in Chicago (and trust me, I've been to a lot) this one is my favorite one. The service is awesome, and there's always a corner booth available so I can sit alone and devour my burrito.
Hey, no one said you had to eat a 1 pound burrito with another person! Sometimes, you just gotta stuff your face by yourself.
Wandered in around 11:45 am as I was heading up North on Michigan for some Christmas shopping and stopped in for a quick bite to eat.
First time I have ever been in a Chipotle with no line, so I was thrilled to walk right up and order. Can't beat the quality or quantity of food you get here. Even though there is usually a long line to get through the people are always friendly!
Chicken Line Item (burrito) 4.26
Small Soda 1.57
Total - $6.50
I ran in here for a quick burrito when my friend ducked into one several Walgreen's in the area.
Considering there were only two people in front of me, it took an unordinarilly long time for my burrito to be made. Â He was done with his shopping and reappeared at Chipotle while I was still in line.
When I did get my burrito, and a seat, I ended up with old or overcooked rice. Â Theres nothing I hate more than garbage rice in a burrito, and when you get bad Chipotle rice, its even worse. Â That cilantro they put into the rice seems to take on an aluminum foil flavor as the rice hardens (and no, i didn't eat the foil by mistake).
A lackluster effort by Chipotle, but I know they all have their high and low moments, so no big loss.

My solitary assumption: you already know what a Chipotle burrito tastes like.
Is Chipotle "fast food?"
It was 1:15, and I had a meeting at 1:30, and this location, as usual, was packed at lunch break. Â There were 34 people in front of me in line- would I make it?
I sampled customer service times:
7 customers moved on from the cashier in the first 2 minutes.
35 customers x (2 minutes/7 customers) = 10 minutes.
I walk a Chicago block in 2 minutes, and was 2 blocks from my office.
That's 4 more minutes.
Total time = 14 minutes. Â I would make it.
...
Goshdarnit, I was late. Â Reached the Michigan Avenue bridge just as the "don't walk" signal lit up, and I forgot to account for the pathetic out-of-town tourists- half of whom couldn't walk a two minute block even if I sighed impatiently behind them the whole way, the other half not having the command of English to know to jump when I shouted "move!"
Might I stray from the strictly rational assessment, and note that Chipotle's lime-tinged rice makes for a quality burrito and compensates for my shame at being late. Â Worth coming back once per week.
I'd love to know which wisenheimer added that this Chipotle is "between South Water and Macchesneyer. Â Um, Macchesneyer isn't a street--it's a below-grade alley that is not labeled from Mich Ave, so you'll never find it using that name as a guide.
Anyway...this location is pretty good. Â Later hours than most fast food places are open, and they strive to hire local college kids nearby. Â Everyone's upbeat and friendly; the food is typical Chipotle.
I love this location mainly b/c it's open late in the Loop and nothing else ever is. Â Everything shuts down at 6 or 7 and it's literally a ghost town. Â And you can only have so much Potbellys... Â But you can count on this place being open till 10PM. Â When you're working late, it's a godsend.
I try to avoid it at lunchtime because it gets pretty crowded, but there's enough churn to get a table if you really stake out positions with friends. Â At night, it's pretty empty and a great place to grab a bite to eat and unwind if you aren't up for the bars.
People always say, you're either a Qdoba fan or a Chipotle fan. Â I'm definitely a Chipotle fan. Â Simple menu, great ingredients, and the best chips and guac. Â I usually get a carnitas or chicken burrito or fajita burrito. Â So filling and reasonably priced.
AND they have Dos Equis. Â What's not to love??
Thanks for staying open so late, Chipotle!
I love Chipotle burrito bowls. Â I don't like the price increase but still think it is a great deal for so much good food. Â And lucky for me, their veggie bowls include a free scoop of guacamole! Â
These poor people have hundreds of hungry customers storm in between 11 and 2 and firing away all of their toppings. Â I think they do the best job that they can. Â And the line isn't that bad. Â If you are concerned about it, go right when they open. Â
ALSO, the manager here is AWESOME! Â We called a pick-up order in to this location but then the driver got stuck and couldn't get there. Â I called to explain and the manager said they had already made our order but would throw it out and re-make it when we could arrive. Â He was worried about our food tasting bad. Â And no extra charge! Â We lucked out. Â Not many places treat their customers that well these days.
This is my second update and I hate to do this but I have to. For starters, the staff here isn't as efficient as they used to be. I used to be in and out in 7 minutes and today I waited at least 12 minutes to place my order! The price of guac has skyrocketed and they are giving out smaller portions of guac that cost more.
I just can't quit you Chipotle because you are so tasty! I may have to seek out other locations in the loop but you're just too close to my office!
Go, 'Potle, Go.
I stop in here every time I'm downtown. Â Love the narrow, deep restaurant and have always had a good burrito. Â Not better or worse than any other Chipotle I've frequented, but I can't get enough. Hit me up with a Steak Bol, black beans with mild and medium (corn) salsa topped with lettuce and guac. Don't leave out the lime chips and a mexi-beer.
I can inhale a Chipotle burrito in about 5 minutes. You might wonder if it's a testament to my incredible eating abilities, but I say it's a testament to the tastiness that is a Chipotle burrito.
I usually stick with the chicken, but I've found the other choices to be just as tasty.
The only issue I have with this particular location is the seating. It is usually so crowded during the lunch hour that you cannot get a seat and then you have to stand, hovering over people, until they finish. Then you have to fight someone else who tries to snag it. It's painful.
I used to have a love hate relationship with Chipotle too. Â I still hate it some days... I always left way overstuffed and felt sick after... then I realized I was just ordering the wrong damn thing. Â I agree on the corn "salsa" ...its the best! Â I get that and a little of the fresh tomatoes, instead of the hot hot salsa.... Â
I used to also think it was overpriced, if you order anything besides just a burrito it always ends up being well over $10... now I've kinda gotten over that and I just get the burrito anyway! Â And I go way way too much, usually at least once a week :( ...its quite the guilty pleasure. Â Also, Chipotle uses organic meats and produce whenever possible, so this alone adds to the cost. Â (Apparently when they switched to the organic pork, the price jumped $1 a burrito instantly, and that was before they switched all the other stuff to organics as well).
Their dedication to the organic movement is admirable.... Â They've singlehandedly expanded the Niman Ranch free range empire... which depending on how you look at is good or bad. Â It's good that they're willing to source better ingredients, but having them shipped to a central warehouse or from one place in the country kind of defeats some of that purpose.
Don't think its good for you, though... a single burrito has at least 1300 or so calories in it... (google for 'chipotle calculator' and you'll find entire web sites devoted to it). Â
Regarding Chipotle being owned by McDonald's... they originally were an independently seperate company with McDonald's having a large stake in it....however, as of this year McDonald's sold the remaining portion and no longer owns any of it.
...And now my annoyances w/ Chipotle. Â The line here can be insane. Â Literally 50 people in front of you on some days at the wrong time. Â They rush you through like free range cattle... Â
They are supposed to heat the shells up and let them get slightly crispy, but during any sort of rush period where there's a line, the shell gets heated for at most 2 seconds. Â That's not even enough time to warm the shell, let alone let it give it any hint of crispyness. Â As a result, the burrito is often mushy and soggy as you're eating it.... Â
During rush times the little man operating the tortilla musher will yell 5 people back in line to take your order. Â Today I literally had to scream for him to hear me and the people behind me probably didn't know what was going on and probably thought I was nuts.
Then when you get to the salsa girl, if you have a special request expect it to go out the door ("just a little of the tomato" is my usual request, along w/ the corn)... "A little of that" is not such a hard request, yet they put whatever they want on it. Â
Sometimes they fold the burrito wrong such that all of the meat is on one side and the rice on the other end of the burrito, and this is SUPER annoying. Â But I eat it with a fork anyway... so I guess it doesn't matter.
This is the hands down the best Chipotle in the loop, I've never had an unpleasant experience and they handle the lunch line like a factory floor. Â I've been to others like the one on Jackson & State and Madison & LaSalle and had sub-par experiences. Â However, I recommend getting their early if you want to sit down as it gets crowded very fast. Â I typically just order to go it and bring it back to the office.
I'm pretty boring as well. Â I always get the same thing one a week--a Steak Burrito Bol with rice, black beans, mild salsa, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and lettuce.
Update 3/13/07: To give you an idea on how fast the line moves, I went there for lunch at 12pm today and the line was almost at the door but I only waited about 10 minutes. Â They also have an online ordering option, but I like my burrito bol made in front of me.
The first time I went to Chipotle was in NYC in Soho. I must have not ordered the right thing because I remember leaving pretty disappointed. However my boyfriend, who is a BIG fan of this place, recommended that I get a Chicken Burritto with Pinto beans, Corn Salsa, Rice, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. That combination made my day. This is one of the tastiest burrito places I've ever eaten at. This location is the one I frequent the most as it's close to work. It gets pretty busy during lunch time, but the staff is very efficient. Excellent, excellent burritos!
Review Source:This is where I first tried it and got addicted to it. Â While trying to figure out how to order and making a fool of myself, the people that worked here realized it was my first time and treated me. That's right, they gave me a FREE steak burrito with guac and they were really cool guys working here. Â Best burrito ever. The service at all Chipotle's has been great since I've been to so many now, but this place is still the #1 location for service. The food tastes better too when people give you good service.
Anyways for those that don't know what Chipotle is, it's known for it's amazing gourmet burritos (which you can get in a bowl if you don't like the tortilla). Â I recommend the steak burrito normally but on a workday stick with the fajita burrito because beans are a no-no when you work in an office and the fajitas have veggies instead . Â I did extensive research on Chipotle before coming and I agree with the general consensus. Â Their ingrediants are much fresher and better cooked than Qdoba (especially the beef & chicken) and thus the overall burrito rocks alot more. Â However, Qdoba's advantage is that it has better sides.
The best article I found when researching:

Trivia: Did you know Chipotle is owned by McDonald's and Qdoba is owned by Jack-in-the-Box?
Tip: For guacamole lovers like me, it's worth it to add their amazing guac to your burrito. Â It is a tad expensive but hey, everything good in life is either fattening, illegal, immoral or overpriced.
