I was excited about the options for my burger. I ordered a fried egg, bacon, avocado, mayo, ketchup, and onion. They offered it on an english muffin, but they were out, so I got it on a wheat roll. The burger itself was decent, but the roll was too big (too much bread) and a little stale. The fries were crisp to perfection though. This would be a good place to go see some acoustic music and watch a soccer game. The beer selection is kind of lame, but you cant go wrong with a harpoon IPA I guess. The bartender was pretty sociable and liked to talk about other restaurants around New Haven. I'll go here again I suppose.
Review Source:After reading on Christy's Facebook page that a new chef was hired on May 7th, and the menu was completely overhauled, and the fact this place is right across the street from my office, I had to try it out.
A Heineken ($3), and a Steak Sandwich Platter ($10) later and I was in a food coma. Â The steak sandwich was huge, and filled with top quality shaved steak, cheese, mushrooms, onions, and a bit of demi glace. Â
The side of mixed fries (sweet & regular potato), coleslaw & a pickle were great compliments to the sandwich. Â The portion sizes were just right, I left satisfied, but not over-stuffed or weighed down. Â
Kudos to the new chef!
Love the Saturday mornings here - always a good crowd of Premiere League soccer fans. Â When there's an Arsenal game on, the fan club is out in force and watching them sing and shout is hilarious. Â Plenty of good food, drinks abound and great bartenders. Â A nice escape off the beaten path.
Review Source:A large group of us were here for happy hour last night and it was great. Â Drinks were well made, food was good (we had buffalo chicken tenders and burgers), and the environment was high energy without being obnoxiously loud. Â Bathroom was really clean, especially for a bar. It's easy to see why this is a favorite spot for some of our friends.
Review Source:This is where I go when I need to disappear and pretend I'm tucked safely into an Irish pub. The burgers are delish, the Chardonnay phenom and the service always stellar. Love everything about this place. I've been to Ireland and this is the real deal. I go there alone to write, relax, ponder and refuel. My only worry is you'll read this review and take my seat.
Review Source:I was next door to Christy's for a fundraiser and decided to stop in for cocktails. What a nice place! It's an Irish pub, and while they didn't have a fancy martini menu, the bartender, Gary, whipped me up his personal concoction called a Lilt. It mimics the flavor of a grapefruit soda sold in Ireland, is loaded with a variety of vodkas, and packs quite a punch - delicious! The service was quick and pleasant, and the menu looked inviting, filled with classic Irish dishes. I look forward to returning next time I'm in the area to try out their food.
Review Source:I suppose it's OK. Don't love the layout of the place, but moreso, was treated rather brusquely by the blonde female barkeep my first time here, who seemed very put out that I ordered a drink. Another visit (my coworkers like coming here because it's convenient to the office), the male bartender was shouting and loudly cursing at the game he was watching on the TV - just found it annoying. Â
Lastly, I found the food mediocre (particularly after dining at Anna Liffey's a few weeks later and being mighty impressed by what pub food can be). Burger was so-so, but the sweet potato fries were good.
Being from Dublin, I walk in to any American "Irish Pub" with a critical eye and, dare I admit, a sense of weariness. So many of them just get it wrong. Christy's however, is the real deal. Ive been here for Karaoke the past few Wednesdays, and  I must admit, I love this bar. It is a true Irish Pub, with flags representing all of the counties in Ireland hanging from the ceiling, registration plates on the walls, and photos of important historic Irish men and women lining the walls. Christy, the owner, was there on one of the karaoke nights, enjoying a pint and listening to karaoke like a regular . I really like that they have glasses of guinness, since most American Irish pubs dont have that option. More importantly, they know how to pour a proper pint of Guinness. Too often I go to bars with friends, order a guinness, and cringe at the sight of the bartenders pouring the guinness straight into the glass, while filling it all the way to the very top. A big no-no and an Irishmens worst nightmare. Am I a drink snob? meh, maybe.... but guinness pouring has a specific art to it, and if you dont know how to do that right, then in my opinion you cant call yourself a true Irish Pub...or any kind of pub for that matter. BUT FEAR NOT! because Christys does it right!. It is on the smaller side, which is why I cant give it the full 5, but it works just fine (I really give it a 4.5!)  I feel totally at home at Christys, I love it- with all the Irish pubs in New Haven, Christys takes the guinness cake.
Review Source:I have never had a bad night at Christy's. Whether I am watching football, soccer, baseball, or rugby, the service here is always consistently strong and solid. The food portions are not skimpy, and the beer prices are less expensive than other places in New Haven. But what sets Christy's apart is the wonderful staff that works there. There has never been a time where I haven't wanted to tip the bartender or server anything less than 20%, and that's saying something. Although my beloved Ravioli Rose is no longer on the menu after it reopened, I'm sure I'll find something else equally as awesome on the menu. So, if you're looking for a great time and want to be surrounded by great people, head down to Christy's- I am sure you won't be disappointed!
Review Source:I went here with my friends after dinner. Â Apparently people prefer to stand because it was really easy to get a table and there were others open even when it was crowded. Â The prices are fairly standard if not a bit less expensive. Â Five drinks (three beers, two mixed drinks) cost $30. Â
Also, the live music was great. Â it was some Irish band that I was told only has a few shows every year. Â They were clearly great musicians and they weren't so loud it was overpowering. Â
The owner, Christy, was hanging out and eating wings. Â I'm glad he likes the food because if there's a next time I will certainly be up for some wings myself.
I had a fabulous night at Christy's on Thursday. I went with my partner and our friend for the University of Michigan Happy Hour (first Thursday of every month). All beer is $0.50 off (not a huge steal), but they provided free hot wings all night (the boys really enjoyed that). We decided to order the full serving of nachos with chili, and it was the largest plate of nachos I would ever expect for $13 - super tasty, hot, spicy, and no skimping on any topping (they also provided additional sour cream without judgment!).
The music was clearly catering to a 20/30 age-group, which we loved - a nice mix of relaxing and up-beat music. The happy hour was not restricted to UM folks, as there were a great many after-work happy hour attendees as well. Christy's is an official soccer bar (not completely sure what that means) but the ceilings are covered in international soccer flags, and they are already geared up for the World Cup! The location is also a sponsor of the New Haven St. Patrick's Day celebration, including the parade, which I'm definitely looking forward to!
