First time at City Stage. Â We saw Steel Magnolias last night, the show was excellent! Â Since we've seen the movie several times with the incredible cast, I wasn't sure how the play would be. Â Fine job ladies - it was awesome. Â The theater is small, quaint, antique. Â The roof top bar is amazing Prices are incredibly reasonable for the play and drinks. Â Will definitely patronize City Stage again, and soon. Â Oh... the elevator is kinda sketchy - so if you get claustrophobic, you can walk the five flights of stairs. Â A fun evening for sure. Â Thanks City Stage!
Review Source:Lucky to be able to do shows in this venue. Â It needs some major work to get it close to how capable technically it was even 10 years ago. Â I still produce comedy shows here including Laughing for Life each year.
No cocktail server, you have to triple fist to make it through a show if you want to drink.
Hey Wilmington, here's a tip: Get to Yelping. When it catches on, you guys are gonna go nuts for it.
City Stage is kind of like a second home for me. I think I have spent more time or money there than any other one place, ever. That being said, this review might be a little biased. Level 5 / City Stage might be the best atmosphere for a bar on the east coast. How can you go wrong with a huge wrap-around bar on the 5th floor rooftop overlooking the river in a city that loves its liquor? Well, you can't. Inside, the theater is an old masonic temple refurbished for the usage of some awesome plays and great comedy. The bartenders are great, although it might be hard to get a drink if things are busy.
Best Bet: Tuesday nights for The Other Side Improv show, then drinks on the roof afterward. Karoke on other nights, I believe. Â Sunset after work with friends is always nice, especially in the late summer.
Steer clear: on weekend nights, unless you are 25 and looking to get herpes. But I guess a lot of people like that sort of thing. Also, take the stairs- the elevator is a little precarious.
