I was here with the Missouri Comets faithful as we watched our season end in the Championship game in Baltimore.
Despite the fact that they were absolutely slammed with the surprising number of people who showed up to watch the obscure final for a league with only 8 teams, AND that the streaming link had lots of problems, they were friendly and awesome.
Also a member of KC Originals (for you points hounds!)
We headed here to watch the MU game and were hoping for a good sports crowd. Turns out, the crowd was apparently somewhere else that day, but that's not really the bar's fault I guess. The service was mediocre - our waitress couldn't seem to remember to bring us waters, eventually having to ask 3 times before we saw anything show up. We ordered house chips and wings and both were just ok.
Not my favorite sports bar for sure.
This review is for this location only, hubby likes the food and service at the new Coach's in Overland Park.
The taco Tuesday deal is no deal. You can call it personal pref, but I had given my uneaten tacos back because the first one that I tried to eat was so awful. That says a whole bunch. I at least finished my Taco Via tacos (not to mention my burger king tacos LOL)...
OK so the bad and the ugly came first. The good was the service. My tacos were taken away and comped with an apology. The wait staff have been great in my experience.
Me heaping praise upon a sports bar is something akin to Halley's Comet...short, sweet, and occurring at endlessly far apart intervals. Â But I always have such a nice time here. Â I'm not a big televised sports watcher, preferring my games live, but I do like to come here for trivia, always a blast. Â The waitstaff has always been lovely to me and my group, the drink specials fair, and the pours generous. Â I have never had a bad entree here, and while the appetizers are the usual fried food smorgasbord, the batter always seems light and flavorful and not weighed down by too much grease. They serve their fried zucchini in long spears/planks, rather than the round cross-cut slices, which is a nice touch. Â It's a good place to graze and nosh, and answer silly questions about music of the 80s. Â Oh, and I hear there are TVs for watching people throw and hit balls and such around, too!
Review Source:Coach's is the best sports bar in Kansas City metro area!  I've been going to Coach's for years. The food is always good - nacho's, burgers, Chicken Avocado (yum!), chili, Chef Salad, onion strings, tilapia, clam chowder, meatloaf, chicken-fried steak...just to name a few of my favorites.  BTW, they have a wonderful catering business as well.  They catered my wedding rehearsal dinner for 60 people and everyone loved the food (porkchops, green  beans, mashed potatoes, salad) and the price was right.  The happy hour can't be beat - 2 for 1 wells from 3 - 7.  I imagine they could accommodate practically any sporting event on their TVs.  There is also a "backroom" that is available for smallish gatherings.  The wait staff is delightful.  We go to Coach's about 2 -4  times a month. Stop in and say "hi" - you won't be disappointed!
Review Source:THIS IS MY FAVORITE SPORTS BAR IN KC! This place has the best atmosphere, best prices and awesome service. When it is nice out, we like to eat on the patio and look at the creek. There are so many tv's that its impossible to miss any major game. Try the Javocado Chicken Sandwich, you wont be sorry. Also, forget your quarters because pool tables are hourly there. Try this place, you wont be sorry. I am serious.
Review Source:I have been going to Coach's for over twenty years. The food is great along with the service. They really care about your experience there. Stop in for lunch, catch your favorite sporting event, ( they have all of them on the tube) or have them cater your next event. You will love this place!
Review Source:This has to be the best sports bar in all of Kansas City. Â Why, you ask? Â There are a number of reasons. Â First of all, they have the best buffalo chicken sandwich I've ever had, and trust me, I've had a lot. Â This thing is GOOD. Â The sauce is just right, if not a touch on the cool side sometimes. Â When it's drenched in sauce though, any more heat would be too much. Â The chicken breasts are big too, they overflow the bun by a good bit most of the time. The bun is your standard hamburger bun, which isn't anything special, but the rest makes up for it. Â This is a damn good sandwich, and I'd recommend it to everyone. Â Get it with their homemade chips, which when crisp, and great too.
The service is both an up and a down. Â Most of the servers are very friendly, but there is one at this location who I'd avoid like the plague. Â I'm not going to be a dick and name names here, so just be careful which side you sit on. Â If you don't like the service on that side, sit on the other side next time, it'll be better.
Their prices have been going up over the past couple years, which is understandable I suppose, if you want to think about it on a larger economic scale. Â But damn it already, a lunch here can cost nearly $16 after tip! Â I'm talking $16 for a good sandwich, drink, and tip. Â It's not outrageous, but this is still a sports bar.
Despite the prices on some items trending upward, I still go here at least once a week for lunch, and will continue to do so as long as they're open, which I hope is forever.
I love Coach's. They have a great happy hour (3-7 every day 2-for-1 wells and calls) and their food is really good. I've actually had fish there that would rival expensive restaurants. Usually the service is great (sometimes you might get a new server), their food is spot on and tvs all over for sports watching. What's not to love?
Review Source:Love this place! Â We frequent the KC area every football season and this place is uber close the the stadium that we have to go do for some college football. Â
So we had a few hours to kill before a 6 pm kickoff, so we decided to stop in for a nice lunch. Â This place was pretty neat. Â There are televisions in the bar and they each have a print out of what college game was on which television so you wouldn't miss a big college game (because really, what else is there to do on a Saturday in Fall anyways). Â They also had a print out at your table of what other games were on and if nobody objected, you might have a chance to watch your game, that is if KU/KSTATE and the few Nebraska hopefuls would let you.
If you want cheap drinks, this is your place. Â I got a Sam Adams Oktoberfest, draft, for 2 bucks a pop and the rents got shot size margaritas for something like 2 for $5. Â My brother, whom attends a local university in the area, says this is the place for cheap drinks if you are on the college budget and well, even if you aren't.
Chicken Wings as an appetizer were good. Â We ordered mild because my mother is a gringa and just can't hang, and they still had a nice kick to them. JAVOCADO CHICKEN SANDWICH: Monterey jack cheese and fresh avocado top your selection. California Chicken is amazing!
If you are ever in the area, check this place out! Â They have 2 locations. Â One in KCMO off Wornall and the other in OPKS off Metcalf.
Like Robert R's review, I love Coach's because it's a true sports bar. Â There's plenty of places that masquerade as sports bars (*cough McFadden's *cough cough) that aren't around the metro, but this is just about as good as it gets. Â It's a solid 30 minute drive for me from where I live in the Northland down to Coach's, yet I don't mind because it's THE Green Bay Packer bar in Kansas City. Â
During football season, walk into any sports bar and you'll find the Chiefs on 95% of TVs, as you'd expect. Â There's nothing wrong with that but it makes things tough for those of us that aren't born & raised Kansas Citians. Â Walk into Coach's on a Sunday and it's like walking into Wisconsin - almost every TV is tuned to the Packers, though they save one or two good spots for Chiefs fans, and most of the crowd is dressed in green & gold.
The service is excellent and the food/drinks are pretty average sports bar fare, in terms of quality and price. Â I can't make it there for every Packer game but when I have the time, there's no other place in KC I'd rather be for a Packer game.
It's a actual sports bar! Â
I love hockey especially the playoffs. When my home town team made it to the playoffs, I really wanted to watch the game. Unfortunately, the game was only being broadcast on NHL center ice which I don't have.
So I proceeded to call every "so called" sport bar in the Kansas City area, just to be told that they don't carry the NHL package. I don't understand how these bars can call themselves "sports bars" if they don't carry every sports package. It should be mandatory!
Well, that was until I called Coach's! They were kind and courteous on the phone, told me that they had all sport packages, and would be happy to turn it on for me.
As soon as I got there I asked the bartender, he remembered my call, and immediately put the game on for me. I got good service, drank some beers, and enjoyed the game.
They also have some nice sports memorabilia as decor, which I rarely ever see at other "sports bars".
While, I'm a vegetarian and didn't eat (part of the reason for the 4 stars), I was told from a friend that they have a great tenderloin.
Their website states -
"We are able to find just about any sporting event you could ever want. We are totally committed to making sure you can watch your home team here no matter where you call home."
It's nice to see they stand by that statement.
I am pretty serious about fried food (serious as a heart attack... waiting to happen) and I like Coach's because they have a lot of it. Â
I had to have some Fried Livers tonight. Â I called the order in and got there within 10 minutes and it was just being brought out. Â I got the half order but they have full pound if you are sharing. Â It is served with chicken gravy. Â I was happy about that because I thought it would be honey mustard or something. Â Mmmm... really good!
I have had the spin dip, the triple play, chicken fingers, the mushrooms (tastes like KFC batter), the turkey reuben and  clubhouse sandwiches.  I substitute the fries for a side salad.  It costs extra but it's a huge serving.  The homemade chips are very good as well.  The chicken pecan salad is quite good (I sampled it once). Â
All of these items have been consistently good each time that I order them. Â I suggest trying them.
I ordered my livers to go because I didn't want to sit alone in a bar at 10:30pm... yeah, I'm paranoid but I'm alive. Â The point is, they charge a carryout fee. Â I'm ok with it and it is disclosed on their menu. Â The plastic they use is recyclable. Â
They have great variety of items to choose from and they have specials that always sound great (catfish strips, meatloaf, corn beef and hash). Â I've never tried them though. Â I always have my mind made up when I get there.
Not too bad of a bar for decent food. The fried zucchini is pretty decent as well as the shrooms.
As far as burgers, the SOB burger and bacon cheddar burger are the usual that I get. They are about roughly 1/3lb and IMHO better than most places but still a far cry from say, Westport Flea Market or Jess & Jim's.
I went to Coach's after a golf tournament and we ate in a private room, so I didn't see much of the bar (but through a window). Â We had a great time and the Cheeseburgers and chicken fingers are fantastic. Â
The bar from what I saw had the classic makings of a sports bar with sports paraphernalia all over the walls, and TV as far as the eye can see. Â The room we were in sure met those qualifications. Â There is a patio for smokers and I am told it is a good place to watch a Green Bay Packers game. Â I also overheard that they set up a tent in the parking lot and host a pretty raging New Year's Eve bash.
