It had been over ten years since I had been here when we came for Restaurant Week in January. We met another couple for dinner and had a wonderful experience. this place is just as good as I remembered it!
The decor is very warm and cozy. Fireplaces and lots of wood paneling. The service was great. It was VERY crowded for Restaurant Week. It took a few minutes for our server to acknowledge us, but after he did, the service was impeccable.
My husband had his usual bourbon and coke and the rest of us shared a bottle of wine. I didn't order it, not sure what it was, but it was great. I had the crab bisque, scallops and creme brulee. The crab bisque was so smooth and not "fishy". The scallops had a great sauce and the creme brulee has a perfectly crunchy top. My husband had the wedge salad, 6 oz filet and the cheesecake. He loves blue cheese and said it was one of the best salads he has had. The filet was cooked perfectly.
We are definitely coming back again. It's been too long, J. Gilbert!
Well, I keep going back to J. Gilberts. And I don't mind going by myself. I like to sit by the fireplace. The steak is very good, I like the ambience, the waiters and waitresses are always friendly to me and prompt. I like the mashed potatoes, the pan sauteed spinach and of course, the steak.....the filet mignon. I always order wine, which I enjoy and to finish the meal, I like the vanilla bean creme brulee. Reminds me of my Granny's pudding dessert. The bread comes to the table warm as it seems to be right out of the oven. The friends whom I have taken there love it also. One has decided it is HER favorite restaurant in town. She likes the crab cakes. Will continue to be a "regular" there. They even know where I like to sit every time. LOL
Review Source:I love J. Gilberts. Whether you are in the mood for a quiet, romantic dinner, or a cocktail with friends at the lively bar, J. Gilberts is the perfect place. Â The food is fantastic, and steak is top notch. Mmmm... I love the filet and the scallops with risotto. They offer some delicious sides too, like lobster mac and cheese, poblano potatoes au gratin and fresh vegetables. Â If you are a fan of fresh baked bread, and who's not, be sure to try the pastrami flavored butter. It's 100 times better than what you are thinking right now....
Don't overlook J. Gilberts as a place for happy hour or a lighter dinner, either. My favorite pineapple infused martini is on special from 4-6:30. I just can't get enough of these, but I must exercise some caution, as they tend to sneak up on me! Also during happy hour try the sliders or the smoked chicken quesadilla, both delicious!
*Pro Tip: Check in on Yelp and receive an order of Maytag blue cheese chips. A fun starter to any meal.
