We stopped in our local neighborhood bar & grill for lunch largely because they were a participant in the fundraiser for JJ's and oh how we were rewarded.
We were greeted and seated immediately. We were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by our server Diane. Â She explained the specials, offered advice (it's been quite a while since we'd been in) and fetched our drinks.
I had the soup/salad combo (you can combine any salad, soup or sandwich into a combo which I love - some restaurants mysteriously restrict these options). I chose the clam chowder & bleu pine salad. The clam chowder was the best I've had in Kansas City hands down. It was thick & creamy with large chunks of potato & clam. MMMMMmmmmm. The salad was delish also with a tart citrus vinaigrette and just the right amount of bleu cheese for balance.
We'll be back!
O'neil's is a terrific restaurant tucked away in a strip mall in Leawood. It has the most loyal customers of any restaurant in Johnson County. This isn't a restaurant for people that are looking for trendy upscale fare. O'Neil's is all about comfort foods like Pot Roast, mashed potatoes and Apple Pie. They do these kinds of foods exceptionally well. The servers are all very attentive and the place runs like a well oiled machine thanks to the owner who is always on hand. He seems to know everyone in the place.
Here's a couple of my favorite items on the menu. These have never let me down and I'm always thankful that I have come in after ordering these.
-Somerset Chicken Salad
-Pot Roast
-Salmon Burger
I always order the mashed potatoes with Cabernet Sauce. I'm addicted to that stuff.
