I've been from the South Bay Area for years and I never looked into trying the Comedy and Magic club. I went to see one of my favorite comics, Bill Burr and had a laugh attack. Not to mention, watching a comic up close in person is much more entertaining then watching it on your netflix. The service was great, the comedians are hilarious, the food and drinks are not too bad on pricing and the place itself is very presentable .
Parking is probably the worst thing you'll have to encounter when going to comedy magic club.
Here's the thing. Â Entertainment is a good value and food is okay however we got the bad waitress. Â Yeah, the one several others have mentioned in their reviews here. Â Noticed good service around us. Â So if they seat you in the section with the middle aged, faded blonde waitress ask for another seat and you'll be fine. p.s. Â I'm convinced she's related to someone since so many others have posted an experience similar to the one I had using words such as "passive-aggressive" "impatient" "mean." Â I'll use rude, condescending (for no apparent reason) and overall bad attitude. Â Don't subject yourself to this unpleasant mess and you'll be fine there.
Review Source:Leno is a national treasure. Â And I don't say that kind of thing lightly. Â He's a consummate pro, always honing his craft (which he somehow manages to maintain at peak levels, year in, year out). Â And you really do get the sense, when watching him, that being a comic is indeed a craft. Â He's in the great tradition of gifted (and hard-working) American comedians.
It's also cool that he doesn't stoop to mockery or meanness, which so many other comics do (because they can't be funny in other ways).
Bonus: his former Tonight Show writer -- one of the opening acts -- was also truly funny and quick-witted.
I have been going steadily to this comedy club for the past five years. I started going when I moved to LA in 08 and a friend took me for my birthday. I loved the place and have been coming back ever since.
The food is really good, the comedians are good to great, depending on your humor and who you go to see. My personal favorites are Rod man, Jay Leno and his writer Tim on Sundays, Brad Garrett, Ray Romano, as well as Bobby Collins.
My only suggestion is for them to improve parking accessibility but overall they run a tight ship and have a friendly and helpful staff. Their desserts are also excellent and I like how they acknowledge people on their birthdays.
I recommend this club to locals and out of towners for sure. There's a reason why they've been in business for 35 years and counting.
I went here recently for the first time to see Jay Leno's stand up. I think the $30 price tag is really reasonable to see a big name like Jay Leno. There is parking but you have to pay and it's a TINY lot so get there early if you hope to park there. The seating is first come first serve so it also pays to get there early so you don't get stuck in the back or behind a pole. The club itself could use some sprucing up - it's nothing fancy! The food is above average for a comedy club so it's easy to meet the 2 item minimum.
Review Source:I don't give this 5/5 lightly.
First, the seating is a traditional comedy club style, small tables and they're very close to each other. Â I don' think a comedy club is a place to be if you want to be anti-social, even if you're there on the night Harry Anderson will perform (meaning, everyone will be older than you odds are, as was my case).
Second, the food is just great. Â I don't mean just by 'club' or 'bar menu' standards either. Â I was at Flemings last night in Beverly Hills and I was much more impressed with this place. Â Let me put it like this, you can order your steak rare here and not worry.
Third, Jay Leno, Harry Anderson, Ian Bagg...good stuff! Â
So everyones opinion about comedy is different but the service was good (a bit pushy regarding paying the check but I'm sure they had to do that to make sure no drunks left without paying) and the food truly was excellent. Â I can see if someone had a bad experience with service here but I can still give this place 5/5 with a clear conscious, having never had a problem and having always had great food.
Food and drink were nothing special. Â With "2 item minimum," figure about $20-50 on top of what you paid to get in. Â Great service though. Â
Come on a Friday or Saturday and get a bunch of 10 random dudes, mostly comics with one or two magicians. Â None of the ones at the show I saw, I thought sucked. Â I hear often one of them is Daniel Tosh trying out new material.
This is probably the best comedy location in the beach areas. Â The comics can be hit or miss, but usually are good. Â I deducted 2 stars due to the setup of this place (You can end up behind a post if you arent there in time) and the food, which is sub par. Â Good thing there is many options in the area, so I recommend doing that. Â Many local stars stop here regularly. Â You might get lucky and get a surprised visit by Daniel Tosh!
Review Source:I never been hear before ,but i hear  its awesome place to visit as a date and the comedians are really funny and  have a grasp of reality  not like those illuminati  comedians  those guys can be a real pest..!

Since this isn't just a restaurant, or just a club, I'll have to give a multi-rating review.
Comedian & magician quality = 4-5 stars. Â All the comedians were hilarious, and the mini magic show was definitely awesome (and funny too).
Service = 3 stars. Â The waitress we had was very quick to refill our glass of water. Â We arrived at 6:45pm for our 8pm show so we could have dinner there. Â At around 7pm our appetizers arrived, which we devoured--then they didn't serve our entrees until 8pm? Â We didn't come early so we could sit around and WAIT for food--the place wasn't even half full when we arrived! Â And then at 9pm we ordered a cookie dessert from our busser who had told us earlier if we needed anything, to let him know. Â He acknowledged the order, which didn't show up at our table--at 9:45pm-ish our waitress did a "last call" and I let her know the cookie never arrived. Â She asked who we ordered it with, and when we told her--she kind of did an annoyed eyeroll, apologized, and of course, brought one to us 10 minutes later. Â Albeit that may not be entirely her fault, the overall establishment waiting almost an hour between appetizer and entree service is kind of annoying.
Food Quality = 2 stars. Â Ever cooked calamari? Â I'm a home cook, you don't cook it for more than 3 minutes. Â They must have cooked ours for 10+. Â It was greasy, overfried (tentacles were super crisp and dark) and chewy. Â The marinara sauce they provided was super super salty. Â Marinara should be nice and light and tomato-ey to offset the friedness of the calamari. Â They had the calamari on a doily, that had run out of room to soak up the grease, so all you had was a nice layer of oil on a doily, with your appetizer sitting in it. Â Halfway through, I stopped eating and made the BF eat it (cause boys eat everything).
I ordered the artichoke ravioli. Â What do you expect when you see artichoke ravioli on a menu, in a lemon butter sauce? Â Not what I got, exactly. Â I got 5 pieces of ravioli on a plate, no chunks of artichoke. Â Instead, there is cheese and a litttttttle itty bit of artichoke inside the ravioli, not really even enough to taste artichoke. Â I expected raviolis and maybe some chopped artichoke mixed in? Â Nah, not that. Â And they barely give you enough sauce to have coated the raviolis. Â Then they give you a sad pile of salad on top of your ravioli. Â I think the highlight of my meal was the breadstick. Â Very sad.
BF got the mac and cheese, it was decent. Â It's pasta and cheese, and loaded with grease, it is what it is. Â The cookie a la mode was good too, when we finally got it.
The cost of the meal? Â Not worth it. Â I have been to other comedy clubs (Improv, Ice House, etc.)--everyone requires a two-item minimum, which is fine. Â The price, however, is not worth the food. Â The Improv has had much higher quality food, better portions, and is still cheaper.
Mac and Cheese = $12
Artichoke Ravioli = $15
Calamari = $8
Cookie a la mode = $8
That being said. Â If you're coming for a show, great. Â Maybe go to dinner first, then just use your two item minimum for a drink and dessert--I'd pass on eating here if I ever came back.
So far, this is the most elegant comedy club I have ever attended. The talent is amusing and engaging. The food is surprisingly good for "bar like food." The waiters and waitresses are also very friendly and accommodating and the intro music is classy. This has the feel of a more upscale comedy place than your average joint. It makes it more worthwhile as a birthday celebration place.
Review Source:Let me say that this was my first time at a comedy club, so I had nothing to compare it to.
I went there for my bf's birthday, we got tickets for $10, ten comedians were doing stand-ups.
I liked most of them, it was definitely worth the money. Â A couple of them were really bad and had to ask the audience to laugh--- Unacceptable!
there is a two item per person minimum, which is understandable. We got two drinks and two entrees. The entrees were sadly microwaved, but they were not bad.
However, ridicolously overpriced for the amount and quality of the food.
Our server was terrible!!! She was mad that we hadn't made our decision in 2 mins (yeah sorry B***, my boyfriend is blind so I have to read out the whole thing!) and then I had to ask her three times for a cup of water.
The place is kinda dark and definitely would need osme improements (starting form te carpet), which makes it look kinda cheap.
I had a good evening, but I don't know if I'd go again. I would rather try another place to see if I was too mean/nice in this review.
Rob Schneider will be there in March and I kinda want to go see him, but the menu prices kinda scare me!!!!
Good show for a Sunday night. Â 10 comedian set. Â 6 out of 10 were pretty good. Â The others were decent. Â Drinks were well made and beer was reasonably prices. Â I guess Jay Leno normally performs on Sundays but wasn't there due to the Oscars. Â Would definitely go to the club again.
Review Source:Coincidently, 2 people within 72 hours of online ticket purchases had attempted fraudulent use of their credit cards.
I love CMC but , if this business does not take immediate action, I would refrain from use of debit or credit card for on-site or or  website until CMC can clear the issue.
I came here with 8 of my friends about two weeks ago. Â I purchased the tickets online which charge a $2 service fee for each person. Â
We saw the 10 comics show. Â Our show started at 8, but we got there around 6:45pm. Â I'm glad we did because the it was already a quarter full when we got there. Â We got close seats off to the left side. Â It really does make a difference to have good seats, so come early. Â Also, try to sit on the left side (facing the stage). Â Seats on the right side are close to the kitchen AND bathroom. Â There tends to be a lot of interruptions on that side due to all the people going to the bathroom or the servers to the kitchen. Â Parking was fine, we got here early enough to park on their rooftop. Â
We enjoyed all the comics except one who really just sucked. Â Immediately when he got on the stage, he had some stupid gag about "is it time to get off the stage, do I need to stretch it??" Â BOOOO, get off the stage! Â However, his craptacular show did give us the perfect break for everyone in our group to use the restroom. Â We really liked Locklin Patterson. Â He's freakin hilarious. Â
The downside to this place? Â The cost. Â There is a two item minimum purchase here which sucks. Â Otherwise, this place was great!
Our group went to the Comedy and Magic Club to see Jay Leno perform. Â Happily, the two opening acts were almost as good as Jay himself. The entertainment value is top-notch, as is the service. Â Ticket prices are incredibly reasonable, as is the cost of food and drink. Â I should note, though, that we didn't have dinner. We simply went for desserts and drinks. Our tickets informed us that the doors opened at 5 pm. We arrived around 6. Â The show started at 7 pm. I'd recommend an arrival of 6 pm or even earlier to get a good seat, as tables are on a first come, first served basis. Â This was a great experience. We'll definitely visit again!
Review Source:This is a great venue to watch comics since it's so small, and they tend to have good line-ups in here, even Jay Leno! They have a two drink minimum, which isn't really that bad (I'd probably want two drinks anyway), the parking is a bitch (come early) and it's a little crowded, but the laughter is worth it. Food and drinks are decent, eating here is probably also not a bad option, though don't expect Michelin-starred food.
Review Source:Really great place to watch comedians and have dinner. The food and drinks are good. I have to recommend the mac & cheese. It is really good. The staff are courteous and friendly. My biggest thing with them is the price. It is a bit expensive to have dinner and/or have drinks. But they do have to make money some how...
We watched Jo Koy tonight (12/15/12). The club was going crazy. I like that the club is small. The comedian becomes intimate with the crowd. The 3x we've been here, it was always a great experience.
We came to watch Rob Schneider and it was such a pleasant surprise! Â The food and drinks were actually really good. Â We had ordered the calamari and the ribeye which were both really tasty.
The comedians were mostly pretty funny and the magic act was awesome. Â All in all, we had a lot of laughs and it was a good night. Â Also, Rob Schneider looks a lot shorter in person and is far more entertaining in movies.
THE MOST AWESOME-EST COMEDY CLUB EXPERIENCE
--------------------------------------------------Â--------------------
Came here on a random sunday when Jay Leno was one of the performer! I have been wanting to see him on the tonight's show but never got a chance. Bought the tickets sunday afternoon. Luckily picked up the last two tickets for the night. ~40 dollars each= well worth it.
location: It is located close to hermosa beach, if you want to enjoy the beach you can come here early to enjoy the beach then to the comedy club. Guest parking is available close to the building (the map is on their website). Parking is 10 dollar.
Please come early. Door opens at 5 PM and show starts around 7 PM. First come first serve basis. First you check in at the ticket booth, pick up the ticket then you can go in and grab a seat. We were lucky enough to pick up the front seats for the night.
mandatory : order two items on the menu. Food items are around 20-30 dollars and drinks are 4-10 dollars depending on its alcohol content.
Ordered: for two (one drink of each) ***2.5 stars
***Fried calamari- the calamari tasted better than expected, I was expected frozen food style ! but it is actually pretty decent. It wasn't over fried or over battered.
***Sun dried tomato and cheese fusili pasta- the pasta was A-OK, it was something that anyone can make at home. But as I mentioned this is a comedy club, did not expect the food to be good.
Overall the experience deserve 4 stars. The staff are very attentive to your needs and the chair were set up very nicely. Warning: you will definitely get picked on if you sit in the front row, but it is a great experience GUARENTEE!. DON't expect it to be fancy but the overall ambiance is great for a comedy club. JAY LENO definitely added an extra star!!! Remember to check their monthly schedule on the website before you purchase tickets!!!!
I heard about this funny Filipino name Edwin San Juan and really wanted to watch him perform live. Â I found out he was headliner at this Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, therefore, I purchased tickets a month in advanced because it sold out!!
This is the first time I've been to this CMC and I was excited to watch the comedians, believe me, I needed a good laugh! Â Anyway, when I walked in, they wanted to seat me in the front. Â Why am I always seated in the front?? Â At first they wanted to put me right at the stage but I choose to seat myself a few feet behind because I didn't want to be underneath those funny sweaty comedians. Â I know ya'll be moving around and sweating all over the place LOL. Â Plus, the juggler they had on the show was crazy with his sharp swords tossing them up in the air and juggling apples while biting and talking....um no apple chunks please haha! I'm just glad he didn't toss carrots at me either. Â
The place was packed with people of all ages and diversities, all here to have a good time. Â Our waiter was prompt and friendly. Â I wasn't driving, however, I didn't want to get drunk and not remember watching Edwin perform so I could write this review. Â All I ordered was a Blue Hawaiian drink (see pics). Â I read other people's review complaining about the food....well HELLO this is isn't a restaurant, duh, it's a comedy club, therefore, the main attractions are the COMEDIANS!! Â I've ordered appetizers; rib bye skewers and chicken egg rolls. Â Surprisingly, they were actually good, (please see pics). Â
Now onto the show....I will first apologize and say that I didn't write down any of their names, for what? I was there to enjoy the moment, but I should have...darn it! Â The host, I forgot his name but he was funny! I think he was half Filipino because some of his jokes were about that topic. Â After him, there was a white guy...really wish I remembered his name cause he was funny telling history in joke form. Â I just remember he was from the Midwest. Â Next was the juggler from Vegas. Â He was very good juggling sharp swords, apples, carrots and swords and juggling on a 6 foot high unicycle!! So glad I wasn't sitting at the stage LOL but he was good! Â Next was a nerdy Mexican, he was funny...oh crap did I miss anyone?
Finally, the comedian we're here to see, the main attraction, headliner....(drum roll), Mr. Edwin San Juan!!! Everyone claps....I tried to clap louder than everyone else LOL! Â You can clearly hear all the support from the audience.!! Â Too bad they did not permit cameras...cause I had a perfect shot of him. Â Anyway, when he walked on stage...he had a Corona, he kept it real and didn't try to pour it in a cup hahah! His jokes begin..."What the Puck?" Â I won't go into detail about his act because you have to go see him LIVE!!! Let's just say he included his family (after all, if you talk about family it must be love). Â Edwin is a cool down to earth guy who isn't ashamed of living with his Mama, afterall, she is the heart here in LA ^_^,!!! Â HE IS FUNNY AS HELL!
If you see Edwin San Juan live, go ahead and buy him a drink while he's on stage, I would have but some black dude beat me to it LOL! Â Try to see Edwin after the show, say hello or snap a picture...too bad I didn't this time around. Â Next time, I promise Edwin!!
He suggest you please, do not yell out the window, "Cheeeezzzzz ______!"

Pretty much stalk this funny Filipino!! Â I'll see you again my Friend =)!!
Very POOR staff.  Had to ask for a manager.  Manger was an idiot who was not friendly or helpful at all.  Did not/ would not accommodate ANY needs we had. Two of us ordered dinner  and a few drinks before the show ($115 WOW). The server was a passive aggressive nightmare.  HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.  I am a LOCAL and will never go back. Â
Jay Leno was great, though!
My fav comedy club in LA because it is hella a hidden gem that brings in such great talent! Yes, they have their nights to give the new dudes/dudettes a stage so we can see what they've got. But, I've been goin to this club for years and rarely am I disappointed. These guys can bring in the Comedy Central and hilarious stand ups! The only reason why I've put off sharing my love of CMC...because I don't want a lot of peeps to find out how awesome it is. Shhhh.
A comedy club is a comedy club you may say. But trust me I've been to many and this is THE best place to hang. And, Hermosa is the perfect location for the CMC because it befits its laid back, LA-nature the moment you step in.
Parking is horrible. Get their early. LA-ans are rarely early but you're better off if you do for a show here. The prices for any show are on target but sign up for the emails and you too can score some good deals! If you are starving, eat before or after. This is a comedy club after all, not a foodie place. Remember that. Be prepared to fall in love with CMC like tons of us others have!
Went Saturday night, great entertainment, so so food and great drinks! Â The seating could be a little better too close for comfort!!
But overall is a great deal for the money and you will have a TERRIFIC time. Â When you are having a great time and after the 3rd drink who cares about the crappy food!
The Comedy & Magic Club is a gem of an establishment; I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that a notable place for live entertainment is located among the beach cities in the South Bay. The fact that I can go some place relatively cool that boasts big names and allows me to avoid the dreaded 405 is a major plus.
Jay Leno on Sundays and 10 comics for $10 on Fridays is down right awesome. Prices are fairly reasonable as well, considering how many headliners come through here.
As far as other costs, the club requires a 2 item minimum, which I'm pretty sure can be anything from a soda, to a glass of wine, or even an appetizer. The bf and I kept it simple with 2 drinks each, but I'd say the majority of the folks around us were having dinner or an appetizer of some kind, plus drinks. Prices are a few dollars more than what I'd like to pay, but I understand the club needs to make a profit, so its alright by me.
Really great time all around. I wish we had more places like this in the S. Bay!
Food was terrible. I got the Pappardelle Pasta, which was kind of chewy. Ugh, no. Our shared apps were only passable - spinach dip w/ tortilla chips and some breadsticks.
My recommendation would be to eat somewhere else and just get drinks here.
Other than that, it's an ok place to see a show.
I love the comedy and magic club. The one thing is they have some comics  that are always there and never update there routine, like the juggling dude.
Dinner is pretty good here, but not great, I had the sun dried tomatoe pasta with Alfredo sauce. Â
Compared to the other comedy places I've been to the comedy and magic club is the best.
I really like the Comedy & Magic Club because it's close to my house, there are plenty of restaurants and bars to hang out at before and after, and the talent is pretty good :) The space is intimate and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. I've been to see Jay Leno, who is there almost every Sunday, Bob Saget, Joey (from Full House, I forget his real name), and a couple of other comedians. I've had a blast and a lot of laughs so all in all I've had great times compared to other comedy clubs.
The only cons would be the 2 drink minimum, they push that pretty hard, the food isn't all that great, parking is a pain because it's down by the pier so it's either meter or lots and they cost a pretty penny.
Ticket prices aren't bad, the atmosphere is chill, the place is cozy, and most of the talent is good.
One star for allowing my friend to raise money for the American cancer society. Comedians were funny, especially the South African gentleman but I can't give the venue another star because the comedians don't work for the place.
I ordered some pasta and a margarita. It was hella nasty. Drinks are overpriced. I couldn't get over how nasty the pasta was. I couldnt finish it and I was hungry and paid too much money for something so nasty.
Tip: parking across the street at bank of America is better and cheaper than their tiny rooftop parking.
We had a fantastic time at the Comedy and Magic Club. Â For those who don't know - this place has been here forever and is Jay Leno's favorite location to test new material.
We didn't see Jay, but saw a lineup of 10 comics. Â I was expecting maybe 5 to be funny, but I would say that I really enjoyed about 8 out of 10 and one of them almost made me wet myself (don't judge - you know it happens).
We definately got our money's worth at $20/ticket and a two item min. Â You can get a couple of cokes and walk out of the show paying about $30 including tip. Â
One downside of this place are that tickets were sold out when we go there - so you have either buy them ahead of time online or come early and see if you can get on the waitlist. Â We showed up at 6:30 PM - were first on the waitlist - and came back at 7:30 to see if we could get in for the 8:00 show.
Also, because this place has been here forever the decor is pretty old, but really once the lights go out that doesn't  matter.
We will definately be going back to the club very soon for some laughs...but next time I will make sure I go to the bathroom before the show starts.
If I have to choose between getting good news or bad news first, I'll always go with the latter, so that while I'm bumming out over what I didn't want to hear, the good news comes shortly after to bandage it all up.
So the bad news about Comedy & Magic Club: There's a two drink minimum. Now, the reality is that required or not, I'm probably going to order those two drinks anyway...however, I don't like paying to walk through a door knowing that I have no option but to pay more when I get inside. The other issue I have with this rule is that it makes it feel like a strip club. I mean let's be real. There's bouncers at the door, they show you to your seat, the curtains are drawn and some semi-famous comedian comes out a does a little (verbal) dance on the stage. Even the carpet looks like that of a strip club. So anyway, that always rubs me the wrong way, but I usually get over it once the funnies start flowing.
The other stinky part? Garry Shandling. I only say this because he seems to be a regular for comedian showcase evenings, which tend to be more affordable than say, going to see Jay Leno on a Sunday. Holy crap cakes, Gary Shandling is a wreck. Never mind his plastic surgery gone wrong, that's not even what I'm talking about. Both times I've seen him, he seemed seriously strung out on drugs. His jokes were barely funny, there were long awkward pauses and a lot of swaying and slurring. He also seems to lose track of time, so we miss out on all the other great comedians while he's dragging the last of his career across the stage.
So onto the good news: The blood orange sorbet is amazing. In fact, their desserts are definitely where it's at if you're going to eat while you're there.
Also, this place puts up some serious talent. I have laughed myself into tears watching some great acts. I'm talking knee slapping, foot stomping, hold-your-stomach-because-you'll-die-if-you-don't kind of laughing. And I love that, because I need that.
So, I'm a fan.
