Sorry to say, but quite possibly the saddest breakfast I've ever had. The server was nice but the food was just, well, sad.
We both got the regular eggs breakfast. Â The "potato croquettes" (woo hoo fancy) were soggy fried potatoes with bell pepper and onion. The "bread starter" was a cold dinner roll. Â No toast. Â The bacon had a bad taste to it. Â First time in my life I didn't finish my bacon. And there was a strawberry on my plate that looked toxic - slimey, warm and rotten.
Oh and this will cost you $12.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I am only here for every UFC pay per view, So my favorite thing here is burgers with truffle fries, They used to have this pineapple Ketchup that was great. To drink I usually have a angry orchid with a shot of cinnamon whiskey (i forgot what its called I think we jokingly call it and angry ball) Then since i usually have to go to work I got to soda. The staff is always amazing.
Review Source:HORRIBLE! Â Took hubby there for Father's Day. Â First, they informed us of items that were no longer on their menu. Â Next, the waitress came out to tell us that they didn't have any chicken fried steak (husband's order). Â So he had to reorder. Â We always make a point to order all sauces on the side so our food is fresh. Â When the burritos came they had chili sauce, no bacon, extra potatoes (which were also the side) and a lump of egg. Â Hubby ate half before he couldn't stomach the chili sauce. Â I will say that the waitress comped off the burrito but that didn't help the actual experience. Â BOO!
Review Source:I love this location. My burger was amazeballs with a nice little side salad. The ambiance confused me a little, not sure if it wanted to b ea restaurant or a dive bar. At least it was not crowded, so we could just sit and talk. I had a a nice Blue Moon, and you know you can never complain about that!
Review Source:We enjoyed brunch after the Bay Bridge walk/run. It was a little busy from other runners/walkers wanting a bite after the race, but it wasn't bad. We got a table right away so it didn't seem too busy to us. Our server was a bit frantic and wasn't afraid to tell us she was too busy. The service was just okay while the food was good. Would we come back...not sure. Not to mention when we checked in on Yelp we got a discount offer to use, no restrictions noted but our server wouldn't allow it, said "you guys can't use that for brunch" even though it didn't say anything of the sort on the offer. Didn't feel like arguing the point...
Review Source:We went to the Firehouse for Mother's Day, and it was PERFECT! Â We had the nicest female server, and another gentleman kept checking up on us too!
Sometimes my family can be quite indecisive, but the server was so patient and friendly and ever once looked like we were annoying her as we kept changing our minds between a glass of beer or champagne. Â We went with one of the delicious Kona beers they have on tap.
We went for brunch, and were able to choose either breakfast or lunch. Â Mom had the breakfast burrito, which was so big that she took half of it home with her! Our other meals were delicious and good portions as well. Â
Definitely a place we will be returning to!
Dropped by while riding beach cruisers around the island and enjoyed the hole in the wall feel and good drinks, they really need some good drink specials and a little better menu and remember to smile a little more. Both the waitress and bartender seemed stressed and there were only 20 people there at lunch.
Review Source:We went here on a Sunday for a late lunch . The food was delicious but the service not so good. Our waitress didn't seem the least bit interested in being at work that day. The whole time we were ordering she was looking out into the street and everywhere but at us. At the end of the meal, we were trying to show her the yelp check in deal (10% off bill) and our phones wouldn't load properly and she said very short "I know what you're talking about" Â and walked off. Not cool. We really liked this place and the food but our waitress was a buzzkill.
Review Source:Y'know? I kinda dug this place.
Nice location, very laid-back, you seat yourself, open and spacious. No pretense, no snobs, huge....HUGE 65" big screens adorn most of the walls. I had one, all to myself, in front of muh face!
The big lure here are the sandwiches and burgers. Top notch, generously sized and tasty. I highly recommend the truffle fries. So good, we ordered more. The menu prices were not outrageous, considering we were in Coronado. A nice change of pace from the romantically charged, hoity-toityness that dominates most of this Tourist-stricken area.
You have to flag down the servers when things pick up, but they're attentive and are willing to please. Folks bring their families, kids running around isn't unusual.
Sadly, we watched SDSU get eliminated from the NCAA Tourney here. But our great experience at the CFB&G made up for that. As a bonus, I checked in and got 10% knocked off the bill.
We're coming back.
Oh yes, we're coming back.
I had a coupon from http://Restaurant.com for $25 so we decided to go and try this place out.
-to start off we had to seat outselves because no one was around to seat us, and the worst part is that the place was not even packed.
-once we were seated and guy came over to hand us one(1) menu.REALLY??
-so I looked it over and he took our drink order and I mentioned about the coupon and his whole attiude changed for the worse....
-my husband was trying to orde the fried chicken meal....and he says "We dont have that in out menu anymore it wasnt good." OMG that should have told me everything about the food.
-I ordered the fish tacos....EWWWWWW....not good at all; no flavor...the rice was like 3 days old...the black beans tasted like NOTHING! no flavor....you need to call restaurant impossible and get Robert Irvine to come help you to do better!
-The only think that we liked was the calamari appetizer....very disappointed. I though that being in Coronado Island it would have been a very delicious menu!
DONT even waste you money or time.....
We stopped here for the second restaurant for the Bite San Diego tour. Cool history within the restaurant and clever decor using the fire extinguishers as lights with a ladder holding them. The food appears ok as the reviews are a three star. We had a small sloppy joe which was decent. Hard to give a full review but maybe a better place for a drink! Â We had a sample of negro modela which was tasty.
Review Source:We went here for my hubby's bday dinner with friends and family - about 15 of us. Â I read the reviews previously posted and was a bit cautious with the service. Â However, I have to say that Kelli, our waitress was outstanding! It seemed most of the staff was pleasant, so I'm not sure why the bad reviews on other posts. Â
I do agree, we went on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. Â It did pick up a bit, but not too much; maybe that is just how it is in Coronado.
Food - ah, it's ok. Â I agree with the other posts, it's your standard bar food. Â The salsa with the chips will have you breathing fire! Â It is very hot, but very good! Â The truffle fries are great, and I heard positive responses about the burgers from our guests. Â The pizza though . . .it seems like it is frozen pizza? Â It was ok, but I wouldn't waste the money.
Happy hour prices are great!
Overall, I would go back for a drink and appetizer . . . probably not a main dinner.
Fine for what it is...Typical bar food: burgers, pizza, some basic entrees. Â Ordered a chicken sandwich, which was average. Â It was empty when I went with a friend, around 7pm on a Friday, but I imagine it could be a fun sports bar if they draw a crowd: they have a lot of TVs.
Service was very attentive, but considering we were of only a very people there, is should've been! :)
We stumbled upon this place while we were walking our 2 labs around Coronado for the day. They were one of the few places that were dog friendly (actually inside the patio area) and would serve alcohol on the patio area. HUGE plus for us! They welcomed our dogs with water and love. Even other customers were so friendly to them.
The food was great! The burger was messy but it was full of flavor! My husband and I both ordered the Firehouse Avocado Salsa Burger and Truffle Fries. YUM! I tried the mimosa before we ordered our meal and it was one the best I've had in San Diego. I want to try this place out for brunch one day. The beer was ice cold too.
We had a good time. The patio seating was spacious and comfortable. We will be back! Â
The only con: the waiter didn't come back quite as often as I would have liked for him too. But, we were checked on and made sure everything was what we had ordered.
We had a fundraiser here after one of our games at CHS so that is why we went.
We went on a taco tuesday and their taco specials are a STEAL!!! I think it was like $2.00 for a fish taco and they were DELICIOUS!! Everyone at the table either ordered ribs or tacos and it was very good. Â My sister in law ordered the shrimp po' boy and that mug was ONOLICIOUS... a little too spicy for my heat radar but it was good and flavorful.
I LOVE that they had karaoke that night and wish I lived on the island so I could have enjoyed it, but it was pretty dead and it was late.. but one day i'll stay and enjoy the festivities there.
I would go again... I suggest getting those ribs because those were DELICIOUS!!!
A 3.5!!
We were 1st- timers and will definitely consider coming back. It was our choice for a casual Coronado friends outing and we wanted to use our http://Restaurant.com certificate which went towards the food and included alcohol...a plus plus plus and kudos to the Coronado Firehouse!!!
The food selection was varied and better than the "normal" sports bar food!! The presentation was nice with the fish and chips (Friday special) tasty, cooked just right and the grilled asparagus appetizer with aioli was yummo healthy. The onion rings were great too. We were hoping for more variety of tap beers, but was able to get something to go with our grindz.
The service was quick at the bar because when we sat ourselves as a table, the waitress was chatting away with two guys at another table. She didn't bother coming over or look our way. At least the bartender was helpful and pleasant.
Â
Good to know~~ There are big screen TVs all around...a good place to catch some sports. Also, there was live music that evening which is appreciated. It was a rock band performing, and although they were located on the other side of the large bar area with a divider, the music fills the entire space. So, probably not a great place to have a quiet conversation, but a great place to catch live music with friends or date night, and there were couples dancing.
The food was great! The service was even better! I went on a Saturday night where they were showing the UFC Pay-Per-View. They have so many TVs, its impossible foe you to have a bad seat. They even had a couple TVs still dedicated to college football and I got to see my Longhorns play at the same time. Great night and I'll definitely be back! (Can't drink yet, but I'll update when I turn 21 in a month and a half.) Haha.
P.S. I don't really see why there's so much hate lately from other reviewers. Maybe I was there on a good night or something because my service and food was great!
Giving this place a 5 as I think it is REALLY under rated. Inside is cute with a large center bar, has outside patio where you can take your pooch and watch the world go by on Orange Avenue. Good selection of beer and GREAT laid back attitude. Went two nights later to the Brewery and would choose this over them any time.
Nice staff, good food, good prices. A good break from a lot of the over priced and over hyped on Coronado.
Had really good burgers and the beer was good.
DO NOT ASK THE Â "bartender" Francis anything he was rude and txting in front of me while leaning up against the back of the bar for at least ten minutes with out acknowledging anyone at the bar. This was one of the most rude and unprofessional things i have seen in a long time. On the other hand the Gm Roger and other bartender Alecia where very fast and responsive to my drink and food order. Food was pretty bad had the dispatch burger cooked medium rare with fries burger way under cooked fries where soggy. The bacon on the burger was really burnt how do you burn bacon? Time for a new chef in my opinion. Great drinks though.
Review Source:The husband and I were on vacation and found this joint on Yelp so that we can watch the Mayweather and Cotto fight on Cinco de Mayo. Â The only good thing about this place are the big screen TV's throughout this establishment. Â Other than that, there is no reason to spend your hard earned money here. Â Why?
-- Bartenders are rude. Â No exaggeration. Â Just point blank rude. Â I ordered a glass of
water just to start while I made up my mind. The bartender replied with an attitude
"You 're taking up bar space just for a glass of water?". After that we noticed he
wasn't even attentive even after we ordered appetizers and drinks. When we
wanted to close out, they took about 20 minutes to bring the check or should I
say it was actually tossed on the table at us by a young female bartender.
We really don't understand all the attitude since we were really patient with them
 despite the service. Â
-- Beer was served in plastic cups. Â Eewww...
-- Restrooms were filthy. Â
-- Bar food was bland and greasy. Â We ordered the calamari appetizer and fries
and all we could taste was the grease. No flavor at all. We felt we were in a Â
 "Kitchen Nightmare" episode. Â
Don't waste your time or money here. Â You've been warned.
I'm full of estrogen, so it's probably not very fair for me to rate a sports-type bar. There's a bar with stools, a bunch of deep-fried appetizers, a menu full of fattening food, and lots of beer...in the clutches of guys with their eyes glued to TVs. Yep, it's a sports bar alright. I'm glad we have one in Coronado in case of "emergency"...the last one being the European soccer finals. Thankfully, these kinds of emergencies are pretty rare.
Review Source:Can we get some service in here?!?!?!?! Â Went here with my family while they were in town. Â The place was not busy at all on a Saturday afternoon. Â Our waitress was not the brightest. Â
Food was blah. Â Nothing to brag about. Â We have had better bar food.
Want your drink refilled?? Â Forget about it. Â My husband ordered another beer. Â It never arrived. Â Even after telling our waitress twice. Â She instead just brought us the check.
My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night. The restaurant was busy but seemed well staffed. Unfortunately it didn't seem like anyone knew what they were doing. The hostess did not have a seating chart and had us follow her as she figured out where to put us after a scavenger hunt around the restaurant. Â After finding a table, our server came by. Â She was nice and beers showed up soon after ordered which was good. Â
The menu selection is generic and the food tastes the same. I had the fish tacos and the fish were small and mostly bread. The side of rice and beans tasted straight out of the box and can. My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everything was greasy! The bun hardly held the BBQ sauce-less pork and the watery coleslaw together.
We asked for more BBQ sauce which took 10 minutes until we signaled someone other than our server over to talk about the service. Lucky for us it was the owner who agreed in our disappointment. He offered to buy us a beer but we were ready to leave. To our surprise our check showed up without compensation or another visit to the table from the manager to reconcile our experience.
Very disappointed and will not return.
I have been here since the place first opened. Â There have been many changes over the years. Â Let's start with the food:
Breakfast:
The owner finally started breakfast. Â This was my first time eating breakfast here since it started. Â Eggs were cooked to perfection. Â I had them over medium with bacon. Â They were delicious. Â The coffee is very good and had robust flavor. Â My meal also came with potato cakes and a side of sweet Hawaiian rolls. Both complimented the meal. Â Service was on the spot all the time. Â
Lunch:
I usually eat the burgers or pizzas. Â They are both good and very exceptionally sized. Â The salads are are also very filling. Â The staff is on the spot all the time. Â
Dinner:
New York sirloin is very good and always cooked exactly how you want it. Â The staff becomes a little slow at dinner but it's because they are busy. Â I still got my food and drinks refilled promptly. Â They also have fish which is just as good. Â
Service:
There are times when it is a little slow but new management has changed that and staff is more courteous and prompt. Â
Bar and Entertainment:
Very spacious bar with many varieties of wine and beer. Â They have more than enough TVs for any sporting event. Â They have great items for college Saturdays and NFL Sundays. Â They also host UFC fights which seem to be a huge success. Â The bands play at night and cater to a lot of different crowds. Â I am a father and have brought my kids in at various times without any issues. Â
Military:
Owner is a huge supporter of the military. Patrons active duty get 10 percent off their meals. Â
Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a wonderful bar and grill with a great atmosphere then visit the Firehouse any time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Â I can honestly say you will not be disappointed. Â Come in for a drink or just relax and enjoy the view from the outside patio. ******* Â 5 STARS. *******
My 10 yr old daughter and I came in here on a Thursday night during a Coronado vacation. We came in at about 5pm so I falsely assumed that even though it was a "bar" that being early to a eatery that offered a kid's menu we'd be safe till the drinkers came in later. Not so.
We arrive and stand in line with 2 other groups to be seated by the missing hostess. A manager(?) finally comes out and seats one group and the other had finally walked off by this point. The hostess finally reappears and offers to seat us on the patio. I request an inside table since for us Las Vegans used to 100+ the 60 degree nights there are chilly. She tells me it is going to be a 30-35 minute wait even though I can see 6 empty tables from my vantage point. About 2 minutes later another manage/owner(?) comes out and seats us immediately.
Being from Las Vegas, I am not a prude, but let me tell you, the language we were subjected to and the lack of clothing on 2 of the waitresses was appalling.
Service was extremely slow. I could tell our waitress was swamped so I tried not to hold her at fault. My burger was very dry, sweet potato fries had ZERO seasoning and were not the least bit crispy. My daughter's pizza was good but greasy. The chocolate volcano is tasty but the red velvet cake was utterly disgusting.
If all you want to do is belly up to the bar and drink, you are probably in the perfect place, but I cannot recommend it for the grill side. Will not be back next summer.
Good burgers and pizzas.. great nachos and bloody marys.
On sundays they have $3 bloody marys until around 2 or 3pm.. awesome deal. Â A plate of nachos fills two people.. pizza can be split too. Â
They also have good sweet potato fries drizzled with maple syrup.
Any 2 star reviews of this place is crazy.. its solid food and a great spot to catch a game.
Came here to watch the UFC and unfortunately there were not nearly enough chairs. They didn't make any effort to provide them or set any extra up. For an event that is advertised as much as the UFC (they had banners hung everywhere as you walk by) you would think they would be prepared for the extra traffic.
I wouldn't mind paying a door fee for seats either, I didn't show up 2 hours before the pre-lims so all the tables and seats were gone. We stood for about 40 minutes waiting for a chair or table and left.
Friendly staff, good service, and good food. Â I hadn't realized that they'd been here for 1 1/2 years, but then again, I don't always venture out too often for lunch. Â I had The Marshal burger and was quite impressed. Â Angus Beef for all their burgers. Â At one time, they used to offer turkey and veggie burgers, but I guess they weren't in demand. Â My friends ordered chicken sandwiches and were equally impressed.
Did you know you can upgrade your fries to Truffle Fries? Â They put truffle oil and fresh garlic on their shoestring fries. Â Quite a treat.
Overall, I would definitely go back based on my experience here. Â :O)
Ever open a can of tomato paste, heated it up and thought "Mmm this will make good soup"? Pretty sure that is what the cook at Coronado Firehouse was thinking when I ordered their tomato soup.
The food left much to be desired and an ache in my belly to boot. We ordered the blue cheese wedge salad, "soup" and appetizer platter. None of them was outstanding or even mildly enjoyable... and obviously we sent back the tomato paste.
It didn't help that our waiter was standing behind the bar the majority of the time talking and doing shots with his friend. He did take the soup off the bill for us so for that I gave 2 stars instead of 1..1 seems mean.
Disappointing because we thought the establishment itself was pretty cool, very spacious and open, good beer selection and free UFC fights. Plenty of t.v's for watching sports.
This is a Fun place to go, with Great food and great service. We went there because they air the UFC PPV fights, with no cover. It's close to home and seemed like a cool place from the website. The food was great, drinks were even better and the staff was very nice and helpful. We will for sure be returning, there are several things on the menu I'm excited to try.
Ohh, and if you go, try the Red Dragon drink. You'll thank me later ;-)
