I'd heard of Prohibition, but forgot about it. Â We were looking for something to do on Saturday night... the right bar for a drink and to get our night started and we sort of stumbled into Prohibition while looking for another bar we'd seen before. Â The door was open and a couple guys were heading in, so we decided to see what was behind the door.
As we were fresh from Comic Con, we were on the casual side, but apparently, Prohibition was laxing up on the dress code during the con and they let us in anyway. Â We so love all of the cool downstairs bars in the Gaslamp and this one did not disappoint!
Its very dark in Prohibition. Â Unfortunately there was no band while we were there, but it still has a cool old timey vibe. Â We headed to the bar to order drinks. Â I was a little disappointed with my bartender because I always think of these speakeasy types as wanting to know what you like and then making you something, but he was more about ordering from the menu, which I did. Â I later heard him say he'd only been there two months, so maybe it's just an experience thing. Â I still loved my drink there... I think it was called three roses or something like that. Â Bourbon and orange. Â YUM.
Pricey, but tasty! Â We nabbed a couple of chairs along the wall. Â And kicked it with our drinks for a while. Â We didn't stay too long, but it's definitely been added to our go to list for future Gaslamp visits!
If you go, have some fun and dress up... we will next time!
Enjoyed a night on the town with my peeps here recently!
We walked up to a plain door downtown emblazoned with the name of a law office. Turns out, this door is no door to a law office! It's a door to lawlessness and revelry in the belly of Prohibition! (Well, not so much the lawlessness part, but it's fun to say so.)
I like a good surprise, so I told the bartender I like fruity drinks and let him get creative whipping together a unique concoction for me. I ordered two drinks this way, and they were both so delicious. I think one was floral or passionfruit something, and the other drink had ginger yumminess to it!
I totally recommend letting the bartenders have free range to make your cocktails. It's such a fun way to try new things you might never have had or thought to order.
The live band really added to the old-timey ambiance, and the dark interiors of this place made it feel like we really were in a forbidden little dive during the 1920's Prohibition!
Excellent service, I thought the doorman and bartender were both so great about contributing to our positive experience here!
