Ortega's Mexican Bistro

Maybe it was a bad night for them, or for us. And what a disappointment it was. I was here for my birthday in January this year and had such a lovely experience that I had been dreaming of going back. But apparently the same restaurant exists now in another dimension. Friday evening. Busy crazy Hillcrest. We step into Ortega's full of  anticipation: Sweet atmosphere, good decor, delicious food, good drinks. How it actually was: crowded, noisy, with rushed, rude, distracted workers. The "guy" that was supposed to sit us had a lost look and couldn't focus his eyes on the person in front of him (Me). Had to wave my arms up and down to get him to notice me. Forgot we were there, waiting. When we were finally seated we were then abandoned for another 15 minutes. Finally the server comes over with breath so bad I had to press myself against the wall to put some distance between him and me (All the while considering the thought that he would be handling my food and drinks). I ordered  -and lived to regret it -  what is now officially the worst, most foul Chile Relleno I have ever had in my life (tasted like cardboard and the cheese was a chocking hazard, submerged in a plate of tomato sauce under which there was also some rice). Beer was warm. Wanted really bad to have a good time hanging out with my dear friend, but kinda felt like a failure because there was nothing good about that evening out. Finally bitterly signed the bill for the worst spent $30 in recent memory (for 1 person). Ortega, Are you kidding? Waiters with extreme bad breath? Disgusting food? Rude service? If I sound slightly pissed off is because I AM! Obviously this place recently changed management and a terrible change it was. Hasta la vista Ortega's !! (Still love my friend).

The tacos, chips and salsa, were both to die for. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. LOVED it. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

This was my first time here but the food was really good and the patio area was great.  Parking can be hard but I would definitely go back
