The Waterfront is known for being one of the oldest bars in San Diego and therefore I had to check it out. It was opened in 1933 and I think that's the last time it was renovated.
It's a full on dive bar full of locals and motorcyclists. The best seats to get are the outside tables, so you can get some fresh air. Â It's not as touristy as I thought it would be, which I enjoyed. However, I am probably consider a tourist because I am a transplant to San Diego. Â
They have great mules. I ordered the chili out of reading another review and it was just OK.
I would go back again, but only for day or early night drinks. It's two blocks away from the heart of Little Italy, so it would be a good place to stop before or after getting dinner there.
Cool little dive bar! Â On our Saturday late afternoon visit we found the place was pretty hoppin, and had a good vibe. Â They had good local beer selection, and the food was not typical bar fare....it actually was pretty good (I had "The Grant" which was delish, and my gf had the fish tacos). Â The only complaint is that I had to actually go to the bar to order for some reason....as there was nobody waiting tables in the back left of the place.
Review Source:Okay, so total dive bar feel, but that is part of this place's charm. And a bar that opens at 6am?!? Woohoo! Been to this place a total of three times so far and I absolutely love it! The bartenders are attentive and friendly (try the cucumber tequila drink. It's delish!) and the crowd is laid back and chill. Foodwise, I have only tried a burger from there which was excellent. And the garlic fries? OMG, a MUST try if you are a garlic lover like me. They have a dj and live music in the evenings, definitely worth a visit!!
