Covell

This place is great.  My wife and I  frequent wine bars often and this was our first time at Covell.  The guys doing the pouring really know their wine and were head on with their recommendations for both of us.  It was a little pricey but not too bad. I'm big on atmosphere and we really loved the atmosphere there.  We were there around 6:00 so I have no idea if it gets crowded later in the evening but we will be back.  Great place for a date.

$60 bucks for 4 glasses of wine and a piece of bread.  Not feeling this joint, here's why....

In fact, as I was one of the only NON-WHITE patrons, the white girls walking in thought it appropriate to mistake me for a bus boy.  AWKWARD!  Don't think I would like to come back to this place.  Left a bad taste in my mouth.

I came here based on the great reviews.. and let me start off by saying that their selection of wine, array of cheeses and charcuterie is great!  I frequently go out to try new wine bars and great restaurants as I'm in the hospitality industry myself.  I believe half of your experience is based on the quality of your drinks and food in the establishment but you must also have inviting and gracious staff. One of the bartenders (red-headed, male) serving us created a disappointing experience for my friend and I.  He was condescending in his responses whenever I asked a question, quite arrogant about his knowledge of wine and my lack thereof and simply just not a pleasure to be around.  If your job entails you educating your customers and helping them decide on the perfect wine for them, it's best not to make them feel stupid.  This is your field of expertise, not mine.

I would give this place 5-stars had it been just based on what I placed into my mouth, but the experience with this bartender made me feel annoyed, uncomfortable and really just not wanting to return.

Check it out for yourself but don't let the red-headed male bartender serve you!
