In it's heyday, The Croatian Center was a mecca for those of the heritage, and I was lucky enough to spend some time here in those good ol' days. Â Now, it's sad to see how little use it actually gets-- with no more resident Tamburitza troupes or ANY cultural activities, what's the point?
A lot has been lost that will be forgotten.
Every Friday night the Croation Center has a Friday night fish fry. Â I had heard of it and some of decided to try it.
We get there and it's a small hall, like a banquet hall for like 50 people. Â There are tables and it is a buffet style dinner. Â They had baked chicken, breaded fish, Â pierogis, Greek potatoes and Greek green beans, sausage and kraut, Â roast beef, mostaccioli. Â It was such a small spread of food. Â They bring you bread, soup OR salad, you don't get both. Â Soft drinks were in a can, and they bring you a glass with ice. Â I like Mediterranean food, and the potatoes and green beans were so good. Â I didn't try the chicken, the fish was really good. Â The kraut and sausage was ok, not the greatest. Â The pierogi was not good. Â I like some styles, but the potato one tasted like it was loaded with pickles, and I really don't know if that is how it was supposed to taste! Â I did not like it! Â They had plum pierogi and that just sounded bad. Â They were purple! Â
I honestly don't know how much it cost because friends treated me for an early birthday dinner. Â I'm thinking not much at all for the quality. Â By 8pm they were already breaking down the buffet and we weren't even done!! Â That was not good!
